#101: Mission Me! with Kym Vincenti
14 Jul 2023
00:40:23
Fearing ridicule. Falling through the cracks for help. Letting the bullies win. When learning to be resourceful is your only path to surviving the unusual and unconventional life you’ve been born into, it can take a lifetime to slow down enough to breathe.
Kym Vincenti was a born extrovert, living in the introvert shell she had created for safety. She describes how slowing everything down and launching ‘Mission Me’, has been an awkward and difficult journey of self-discovery, learning the power of self-acceptance in order to be her own champion, from the inside-out.
Kym describes herself as a master juggler, forging a path in the music industry at 60 years of age, while also continuing to fuse her love of holistic well-being with her love of writing.
This episode is for women who are on a journey to learn who they really are and become the person they were born to be.
MORE ABOUT MY GUEST: KYM VINCENTI
Like many women, Kym Vincenti has become a master juggler over the years. This is a skill she now puts to good use in forging a path ahead in the music industry, at 60 years of age, while maintaining her passion for health & wellness and, keeping her hand in as a writer.
Launching her music career just last August, she has already had two number 1's in the iTunes Blues Charts and has become a prolific songwriter. Meanwhile, in the background, she has been combining her love of holistic well-being with her love of writing and her next book, '50 Shades of Health & Wellness' For Women Over 50, is due out later this year.
With her unconventional and rather dysfunctional background, Kym says the thing she is most proud of is surviving and thriving in this world and her mission now, is to pay all those lessons forward to help other women gain better mental, physical and spiritual health.
Kym’s full bio and contact details can be found on her personal guest page.

#100: Looking back on: Bravery, Courage & Guts! with Viv Groskop
07 Jul 2023
00:19:12
Is it possible to be effortlessly confident and, if so, how much work does it take? And what difference would it make in your world if you could trust yourself to feel at ease and confident when it matters most?
In last week’s interview (#099) I talked to Viv Groskop, award-winning writer, comedian, TV and radio presenter. Viv’s podcast, How To Own The Room, was a big inspiration in launching this show, and plays a big part in Viv’s mission to encourage women to find their voice and be heard.
In our Insights episode, I reflect on three areas that Viv talked about: the concept of ‘happy high status’, the importance of self-modelling and the significance of tiny moments.
If you’re a woman who’d love to feel effortlessly confident in your mission, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#091: What's Keeping You Stuck? with Janey Lee Grace
24 Apr 2023
00:48:38
What stands between you and your best life? For Janey, the elephant in the room was alcohol and finding how to quit the booze was the missing link in finding her purpose and living her best life.
This week’s guest is the well known author, speaker and former BBC radio presenter, Janey Lee Grace. Founder of The Sober Club, Janey once thought that the idea of a holistic best life was something that other people lived.
Listen in to find out how discovering the way to live authentically and be comfortable in her own skin has given her another chance at life – a life in which she is now fully present.
This episode is for women who need a little inspiration to take responsibility, own their power and be their imperfectly natural best self.
MORE ABOUT MY GUEST: JANEY LEE GRACE
Janey Lee Grace is a best-selling author and speaker, and was co-presenter on the UK’s biggest radio show, Steve Wright in the Afternoon for 24 years! Founder of The Sober Club, Janey is passionate about encouraging people to ditch the chemicals, focus on great nutrition, selfcare, and finding their purpose as she found for herself that quitting the booze was the missing link in the ‘holistic living’ picture.
Janey’s full bio and contact details can be found on her personal guest page.

#090: Looking back on "Midlife: Crisis or Growth Spurt?" with Dara Goldberg
19 Apr 2023
00:19:19
What does it mean to be in midlife? What if, instead of it being the end of everything you thought you knew, it was the most wonderful springboard to what lies ahead?
In last week’s interview (#089) I talked to Dara Goldberg, founder of the Endless Beauty Collective. Reaching the age of 42yrs changed everything for Dara and catapulted her right into the heart of her mission.
At the very point she feared she was ‘losing it’, she realised she was gaining SO much more!
Looking back on our conversation, this week I explore what we can learn from Dara about showing up out of choice and living on our own terms.
If you’re a woman on a mission who would love to embrace midlife and breathe new life into your mission, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

Taking on the beauty industry is no mean feat. But what else can you do when every product and purchase you consider carries a marketing message that you disagree with, with every fibre of who you are?
Based in Philadelphia, this week’s guest is the founder of the Endless Beauty Collective. Dara Goldberg is fiercely proud to be a woman in midlife and she is on a mission to eradicate ageism in the beauty industry. She is a champion and advocate for women taking their power back and making a noise so loud that they have to be heard!

This episode is for women who are learning to speak truth to power and are ready to own their voice.

What does it mean to be a free range human? And how can you accelerate your success by celebrating your differences and becoming even more of who you really are?

#086: Looking back on "Finding the Gift Inside Ourselves" with Veronica Pullen
17 Mar 2023
00:19:01
What makes a gift...a gift? How do you recognise gifts that don’t come beautifully wrapped with a bow, and what is the value in a gift you have to grow into?
In last week’s interview (#085) I talked to online marketing and copywriting expert Veronica Pullen. Veronica is a woman on many missions and our conversation kept coming back to the importance of finding, honouring and then thriving on the unique gifts that are ours alone to share.
So how do we do that?
Looking back on our conversation, this week I reflect on the lessons we can learn from Veronica in searching for the gifts, even in the most challenging of life experiences. I also explore the importance of doing the inner work because your mission only grows as fast as you do!
If you’re a woman on a mission who would love to sky-rocket your personal impact, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#084: Looking back on "Self-Validation: Shifting The Dial" with Natalie Balmain
03 Mar 2023
00:22:58
How do you know when you’re doing a great job? Are you someone who desperately craves feedback and approval every step of the way or are you so deeply certain of what you are doing that you wouldn’t even think to ask for someone else’s perspective?
In last week’s interview (#083) I talked to campaigner, designer and broadcaster Natalie Balmain who, last autumn, won the Channel 4 political reality show, Make Me Prime Minister. The more we discussed the woman behind the mission, the clearer it became that something deeply transformational had occurred within Natalie after she won the show, and shifting the dial on self-validation was right at the heart of the change taking place.
But how do we do that?
Looking back on our conversation, this week I consider the relationship between validation and self-confidence. You’ll also discover how an encounter with a super-pompous dental professor completely transformed my understanding of how we can build confidence from the inside out.
If you’re a woman on a mission who would love to shift the dial on knowing when you’re doing a great job, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#082: Looking back on "I Just Couldn't Find My Voice!" with Lou Featherstone
19 Feb 2023
00:15:09
Have you ever wished you had more confidence? Or sat around waiting to do something until you feel more confident to make a start? Or worse still, missed out on that next big thing because you just weren’t confident enough to even try?
In last week’s interview (#081) I talked to positivity rebel and accidental mid-life influencer, Lou Featherstone, who not so very long ago couldn’t find her voice or bring herself to show her teeth on camera. Some 70,000 Instagram followers later, Lou discovered that the more she showed up on camera, the more people followed her and the more confident she became. Why? Because confidence is a result, not a requirement!!
Looking back on our conversation, in this week’s episode I reflect on the biggest mistake we make around confidence and why confidence is so much more than the things that we do. Most importantly I share how, once we understand what true confidence is, no-one can take it away from us.
If you’re a woman on a mission who would love to find your voice and feel more confident in who you are becoming in your mission, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#081: I Just Couldn't Find My Voice! with Lou Featherstone
09 Feb 2023
01:20:10
How many of us can say that we’ve blown our whole life up for our mission? If you’re one of the 69,000 people who follow LuinLuland on Instagram you could be forgiven for thinking that her life is one long transatlantic venture of vintage visibility.
It’s almost unthinkable that someone with such vibrance, energy and passion in front of the camera would once (only a few years ago!) have struggled to show her teeth and find her voice.
So what happened? A diverse career that includes children’s social care in Cardiff, advertising in London, and creating vintage experiences with Airbnb in Portland took a new turn after the pandemic. Spurred on by an unexpected midlife encounter with the Vagina Whisperer, Lou’s increasing online visibility and the response of those who were drawn to her radiant online presence, all helped her to find her voice.
Ready to return to the UK, Lou prepared to leave her family and crowd-sourced the purchase of a lime green & shocking pink 35ft vintage disco motorhome, and began her drive across America on the Self Love Revolution tour (now in the UK!), encouraging other women to love themselves too.
Lou Featherstone is an accidental middle age influencer and positivity rebel (more below).
This episode is for women who want to find their own voice, step out of their comfort zone and feel empowered to love who they really are.

#079: Being Fulfilled - The Season Five Heartbeats
02 Feb 2023
00:28:13
Looking back on Season Five, and reflecting on the stories and experiences shared by each of my guests, the word that stands out this season is fulfilment. Our external search for ‘more’ and our internal search for meaning.
Whether it’s a quest to give and be more so that we can be the difference that matters for others, or a deep personal need to achieve our own potential, there really is something for everyone in this season:
As I look back over the season, there really was something for every woman on a mission:
Olukemi Ogunyemi on anti-racism: working together to challenge racism and build a better world for future generations (Ep 65 & 66)
Heather Anstey-Myers on getting what you settle for and/or leading a more fulfilling life (Ep 67 & 68)
Honor Wilson-Fletcher MBE on getting comfortable with discomfort and owning your own space (Ep 69 & 70)
Kathryn Billing on the search for fulfilment in life and leadership and realising our full potential in order to live our best life (Ep 71 & 72)
Andrea Byrne on infertility: the challenge of normalising conversation around taboo topics and taking time to be quiet too (Ep 73 & 74)
Rachel Flower on resilience: how much one person can take and the importance of strategies to support mental resilience (Ep 75 & 76)
Sherry Bevan on imposter syndrome and self doubt and what would be possible if you weren’t holding yourself back (Ep 77 & 78)
In the sharing of our stories and experiences, we encourage other women on a mission to do and BE more when all is going well, and we inspire others in those moments where we simply need to keep going too. Whether you are short on time, new to the podcast, or would simply enjoy a recap on the rich learning we have heard from each guest, this summary of Season Five is for you!

#078: Looking back on "I'd Never Felt Like An Imposter" with Sherry Bevan
24 Jan 2023
00:22:13
What’s the difference between self doubt and full blown imposter syndrome, and why does it matter? If you’ve ever experienced thoughts or feelings that make you feel like a fraud, you’ll know how much even a little self-doubt can hold you back.
And when you’ve got a big mission to fulfil, the last thing you need is your mental monkeys running amok, asking who DO you think you are to do this!
In last week’s interview (#077) I talked to leadership consultant and coach, Sherry Bevan, about her mission to get more women into leadership roles in the technology sector. We talked about the power of authenticity and the difference it makes when you use different strategies to manage those moments where you feel really challenged in your mission.
Looking back on our conversation, in this week’s episode I take the opportunity to learn more about imposter syndrome and how it affects us when our experience is more persistent and intense than everyday self-doubt. You’ll also hear 3 important questions that can help us disrupt the thinking that holds us back when doubt creeps in.
If you’re a woman on a mission who is tired of doubting yourself and holding back from being all that you can be, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#077: I'd Never Felt Like An Imposter with Sherry Bevan
15 Jan 2023
00:55:07
What makes a true action taker? For Sherry Bevan, it’s her passion for making a difference, the way she can’t NOT take action when something needs fixing and her unwavering mission to get women to rule the world.
And in this interview you’ll hear something else. Something that really stands out at a time where it’s suggested that over 70% of us have felt like an imposter – and that’s where Sherry reflects on her career and shares how it has never really occurred to her that she wouldn’t be able to do the roles she’s been appointed to. What would be possible if we could all say that?
Sherry is a leadership consultant and coach who is on a mission to get more women into leadership roles in the technology sector. She specialises in partnering with technology and cybersecurity companies to attract, develop and retain female talent so they make progress on closing the gender pay gap.
This episode is for women who are leading change and want to be better at taking inspired action without compromising who you really are.

#076: Looking back on “Resilience: How Much is Too Much?” with Rachel Flower
07 Jan 2023
00:17:15
How much resilience does one person need is an interesting reframe on the oft asked question, how much can one person take. When you have survived some of the toughest times as a loving human; challenged inequity in and through the legal system, and taken on politicians on major issues of injustice during a global pandemic, you might be forgiven for taking a well earned rest or pivoting into a less fraught career for your next life chapter.
In last week’s interview (#075) I talked to business coach and legal consultant, Rachel Flower about her multiple missions to rectify injustice, advocate for the underdog and tackle issues of equality and diversity. We learned how, in building resilience, Rachel looks for the gift in the hard times and carries her learning into the next opportunity to make a difference and become an even better version of yourself.
Looking back on our conversation, in this week’s episode I reflect on the importance of disrupting our thinking in challenging times and having strategies in place to build our mental resilience.
If you’re a woman on a mission who is looking to feel more resilient in times of challenge or uncertainty, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

What do you do when you have a deep calling to make a difference, and you’re feeling all the feels, but actually creating change feels completely overwhelming and you don’t know where to start?
In last week’s interview (#097) I talked to Mi Elfverson, founder of The Vlog Academy and creator of the EyeStorm community. Mi has created some extraordinary opportunities throughout her career, and is on a mission to help other women to step into their power too.
Looking back on our conversation, this week I dig deeper into Mi’s advice to start with what we have, and share my own experience of leading change when we don’t have all the answers but we’re willing to take a risk on learning and growing as we go.

#074: Looking back on "Infertility: It's Time to Talk" with Andrea Byrne
22 Dec 2022
00:13:44
Normalising a conversation is a curious thing. Part of us wants to talk more, listen more and experience the healing power of not being alone in our experience. Another part of us doesn’t know if we’re ready for what that might mean. What if it’s not just our story to share? Or we’re not in the right time or place to cope with the response?
In last week’s interview (#073) I talked to ITV presenter and host of the Making Babies podcast, Andrea Byrne. During our conversation she shared the story of her mission to tackle the stigma around infertility and how, when she was unable to give voice to her own story, she was inspired by the people who were sharing when she couldn’t.
Looking back on our conversation, in this week’s episode I explore the power of sharing when the time is right, and reflect on what we can learn from the three simple strategies that Andrea used to resist the pressure, stay safe and prepare for the time when it was her turn to speak out and lead her mission.
If you’re looking for permission to pause, recharge and reset, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#073: Infertility: It’s Time to Talk with Andrea Byrne
09 Dec 2022
00:47:47
Normalising conversation about any taboo topic is a challenging mission. And when that topic is something you have deeply personal experience of, it takes the challenge to a whole new level: especially when the topic is as complex and emotionally charged as living with infertility.
It's an intense experience that changes lives and challenges relationships - with partners, family, friends and (especially) ourselves. It’s not just emotionally and physically exhausting, it can leave us questioning who we are at the deepest level of our own personal identity.
It’s not surprising that infertility can leave us feeling isolated on many levels. There is so much to make sense of, and how do you share a story that may not be yours alone to share?
Andrea has spent her professional life giving voice to other people’s stories and, as a result of her own experience navigating the world of fertility, she is on a mission to tackle the stigma and reduce the isolation associated with infertility. A true story teller, she shares the story of her mission and how, during the period where she was simply unable to give voice to her own story, she was inspired by the people who were sharing when she couldn’t.
Andrea Byrne is one of the faces of ITV news, anchoring the BAFTA award-winning daily news programme, Wales At Six, as well as ITV’s national bulletins. Andrea also presents the current affairs programme Wales This Week and presents her own fertility podcast, Making Babies.
This episode is for anyone in need of inspiration that they just can’t find inside themselves right now, and for women who are leading change and want to feel more comfortable with sharing their own story. It’s an episode about identity, self-acceptance and self-belief.

#072: Looking back on "Learning to Live My Best Life" with Kathryn Billing
02 Dec 2022
00:20:04
Are you living your best life? What does that mean for you? For some people it’s about power, money or status and all that they dream that will bring. For other people it’s about the quest for fulfilment, answering their calling and realising their full potential.
In last week’s interview (#071) I talked to Chief Fire Officer for Cornwall Fire & Rescue, Kathryn Billing. During our conversation she shared how a life of service to her community had become a personal search for deepening fulfilment, and her true sense of self, as she navigated the career path and stepped into leadership.
Looking back on our conversation, I explore three key themes that stood out for me: the pursuit of self-discovery, the power of language to create influence & impact, and the desire for self-actualisation and to be our best self.
If you’re looking to find fulfilment and deepen your understanding of who you need to be to realise your full potential, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#071: Learning to Live My Best Life with Kathryn Billing
25 Nov 2022
01:02:40
When you’re truly brought up to believe that women can do anything, anything really is possible – including becoming the Chief Fire Officer. Driven by a heart for service, a love of community, and a deep desire to make a difference, Kathryn built a varied and interesting career, until her pursuit of improvement led her to discover that not all women in the fire service shared the same experience. Something had to change, and she shares her story of stepping up and confronting institutional sexism and committing to being part of the solution.
There were further challenges ahead. Making a difference and serving others had been the cornerstone of Kathryn’s career, but it was embarking on the journey of self-discovery that opened her eyes to the most important impact she had yet to make… finding how to make the shift from living her life in service of others, to loving herself enough to live her own best life.
Kathryn Billing is the Chief Fire Officer in Cornwall Fire and Rescue. She’s a high performing woman with a heart for service and community, blending ambition & achievement with a deep desire to really make a difference, while having fun along the way.
This episode is for women who are leading change and want to learn more about leading others and themselves. It’s an episode about identity, self-acceptance and self-belief.

#070: Looking back on “Taking Up Your Own Space” with Honor Wilson-Fletcher
18 Nov 2022
00:18:32
Are you taking up your own space in the world? And what does it mean, for you and your mission, when you diminish your presence through your physical movement and positioning, the language you choose or the thoughts you allow to occupy prime space in your mind?
In last week’s interview (#069) I talked to Chief Executive of the British Exploring Society, Honor Wilson Fletcher. During our conversation she shared how leaving home, and seeing the world through the eyes of those around her, had been a powerful catalyst in her mission to create fairness of opportunity for girls and women.
Looking back on our conversation, I explore three key themes that stood out for me: the value of safe space in enabling brave thinking and the exploration of opportunity and possibility; the power of servant leadership; and the importance of taking up your own space in the world.
If you’re looking to think, dream & BE more creative and brave in the change you are leading, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#069: Taking Up Your Own Space with Honor Wilson-Fletcher MBE
11 Nov 2022
00:57:36
Imagine being the Chief Executive of an organisation that exists to take young explorers to extraordinary destinations - in the world AND in their own lives. Where the very raison d’être is to explore possibility, take young people out of their comfort zone and change their lives for the better. What an opportunity to make a difference!
An opportunity made all the more exceptional when you’re a woman, leading in a highly male-dominated sector, and the first female CEO in the 90 year history of the organisation.
Honor Wilson-Fletcher is a servant leader, driven by her mission. A mission of fairness. Fairness in the workplace. Fairness for girls and women. And fairness of opportunity to know who you really are.
Her story begins on a farm in Dorset, trying to make sense of life as an unhappy child grappling with mixed expectations. In this deeply personal conversation, Honor shares how her exploration to find who she really is began with a move to London, becoming self-sufficient, and learning to see the world through the eyes of those who saw possibility very differently to her own experience.
Her raging determination to find places that were fair drove her ambition to take up her space in the world and become the boss, so that she could shape the future and create fairness of opportunity for herself and others.
This episode is for anyone who would like to find their voice, get more comfortable with discomfort, and own their own space in the world.

#068: Looking back on “You Get What You Settle For!” with Heather Anstey-Myers
04 Nov 2022
00:16:32
What does it mean to settle? And how do we navigate our way out of stuckness in order to live and lead a life with more impact and greater fulfilment?
In last week’s interview (#067) I talked to Chief Executive of Manufacturing Wales, and Business News Wales, Heather Anstey-Myers. During our conversation she shared her personal story of navigating a challenging childhood, and how a throwaway phrase from Thelma & Louise significantly impacted the beliefs and values that were to drive the next 30 years as her leadership career unfolded.
Looking back on our conversation, I begin by considering what it really means to compromise living our best lives, by settling for less than we deserve. I then look at the importance of values-based leadership if we are to find fulfilment in our mission.
If you’re looking to create more personal impact and experience a deeper level of fulfilment in your mission, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

A mission takes confidence, bravery and maybe a little bit of crazy…such is the experience of this week’s guest. Her own little bit of crazy yielded not only the launch of her career in high-end film, TV and commercial production, but also a working visit to war-torn Bosnia with UN/IPTF peace-keeping forces.
Mi Elfverson is the founder of The Vlog Academy and creator of the EyeStorm community. She has worked with global agencies and renowned Hollywood block busters, including James Bond and Harry Potter films, and here she shares how her experience of creating extraordinary opportunities has led her to support other women to step into their power and share their expertise.
This episode is for women who feel a deep calling to serve, but aren’t quite sure where to start.
MORE ABOUT MY GUEST: MI ELFVERSON
Mi Elfverson is a brand photographer and business vlog expert, born in Sweden but living in the UK since 1999. After a magnificent 25 years in high-end film, TV and commercial production, Mi founded The Vlog Academy. In beginning to teach vlogging, she discovered a massive difference in confidence between men and women in front of the camera, and she soon created the EyeStorm visibility programme for women, to begin to address the imbalance.
From Stockholm to LA, New York to London, she has worked with global agencies and renowned Hollywood blockbusters, ranging from Kellogg’s and Volvo adverts to the James Bond and Harry Potter films - but nothing gives her more joy than seeing a woman step into her own power and start sharing her expertise.

#067: You Get What You Settle For! with Heather Anstey-Myers
28 Oct 2022
01:11:09
Carrying the weight of family expectation can be an enormous load to carry, for any child. Whether those expectations are high or low, they lead to assumptions that determine the behaviours, beliefs and values of the growing child, particularly if that young person perceives those expectations to be of limitation rather than ambition.
At the moment where everything changed for Heather, she was watching the renowned movie of the road trip taken by Thelma and Louise. And as she listened, she became aware of six words that were to change the trajectory of her own beliefs and values for the next thirty plus years:
You get what you settle for.
Those six words quickly gave Heather the permission, that she didn’t even know she needed, to check in with herself about what was acceptable in her life, and what had to change. It’s a process that she has adopted throughout her extensive leadership career, and personal life. She shares how a further significant influence, the serenity prayer, has helped her to navigate the balance between having the courage to consciously change the things she can’t accept, the serenity to consciously accept what can’t be changed, and the wisdom to know the difference.
In this deeply honest and personal conversation, Heather Anstey-Myers shares her story of navigating a challenging childhood, and how the lessons she learned have impacted her leadership career, since discovering she alone had the power to change in her 20’s.
This episode is for anyone who is tired of settling for less than they really want and would like to learn how to make better, conscious choices to change or surrender.

#066: Looking back on “Anti-Racism: A Together Agenda” with Olukemi Ogunyemi
22 Oct 2022
00:19:46
What is grace? And how would showing more grace toward each other create a better world for future generations?
In last week’s interview (#065), body therapist and author Olukemi Ogunyemi shared the story of her upbringing in Scotland as a mixed-race child: highlighting both the trauma of experiencing racial abuse and the responsibilities of individuals, communities and organisations to raise awareness of racism, create impactful change and build a better future.
Looking back on our conversation, I begin by reflecting honestly on my own early journey of awakening in relation to privilege in general, and anti-racism in particular. I then look at what we can learn from Olukemi’s personal approach to tackling racism through compassion, and begin to explore the meaning of grace as a spiritual gift or human virtue.
If you’re looking to deepen your understanding of who you are being in your mission, or you are looking to commit more deeply to being the difference you want to see in the world, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#065: Anti-Racism: A Together Agenda with Olukemi Ogunyemi
14 Oct 2022
01:10:07
The moment where George Floyd died, and the Black Lives Matter movement was born, changed the trajectory of a lifetime for Olukemi Ogunyemi. Racism, violence and abuse, further complicated by the trauma of living with anorexia, were layers of a lifetime that she consigns to not knowing any different; until international outcry and condemnation gave permission for a completely different conversation.
Telling her story became the thing that Olukemi couldn’t not do. Spurred on by the permission suddenly created by white people taking responsibility and initiating action to create change, Olukemi started writing. Hearing other people saying ‘it’s not ok’ compelled her to share her life experience, determined to challenge racism and create a world that would be different for her children and grandchildren.
In this deeply challenging conversation, body therapist and author Olukemi Ogunyemi shares the story of her upbringing in Scotland as a mixed-race child, and brings her book “Brown Girl in the Ring” to life. It’s a conversation about the trauma of experiencing racial abuse and the responsibilities of individuals, communities and organisations to raise awareness of racism (personal and institutional), create impactful change and build a better future.
Made all the more pertinent by the Sheku Bayoh Public Inquiry, currently being heard in Scotland, this episode is for anyone who wants to learn more about how anti-racism can and must be everyone’s agenda if we are to build a safe, tolerant and compassionate future. It’s also for those who are interested in developing their understanding of personal identity and how knowing who we are reduces the risk of violence and harm in our communities.
MORE ABOUT MY GUEST: OLUKEMI OGUNYEMI
Olukemi Ogunyemi is a highly successful body therapist who also speaks and blogs on racism and transgender issues. In her book, Brown Girl in the Ring, she tells of her momentous struggle growing up as a mixed race child in Scotland. She describes in horrific, gut-wrenching detail the acts of racism that continued into adulthood and wreaked havoc for her as a wife and mother of four children.
Olukemi is on a mission to tackle racism head on through compassion and not blame and, in doing so, to create a different world and a better future for her children and grandchildren.

Looking back on Season Four, if there is one thing that the Women on a Mission have in common, it’s bravery. It’s easy to think that if our mission is enormous we personally need to be one million percent braver to fulfil it, but throughout these interviews we repeatedly see the value that just being a little braver can achieve.
Especially if those around us choose to be a little braver too!
As I look back over the season, there really was something for everyone:
Caroline Strawson on realising that no-one is coming and breaking free from hidden shame (Ep 49 & 50)
Vivienne Porritt OBE on how being even 10% braver can create significant change and increase your impact (Ep 51 & 52)
Alisoun Mackenzie on getting off the train of expectation and living a meaningful life (Ep 53 & 54)
Dr Emma Yhnell on challenging traditional perspectives and creating meaningful connection (Ep 55 & 56)
Jane Duncan Rogers on making difficult conversations easier and surrendering to our calling (Ep 57 & 58)
Ali Bulman on the recovery of adult social care (post pandemic) and the real role of leaders in making an impact for the most vulnerable in society (Ep 59 & 60)
Jess Baker on being a super-helper and the personal impact when you can’t stop helping (Ep 61 & 62)
Sue Revell (that’s me!) on not just fitting in when you should be standing out! (Bonus Ep 1-3)
In the sharing of our stories and experiences, we encourage other women on a mission to do and BE more when all is going well, and we inspire others in those moments where we simply need to keep going too. Whether you are short on time, new to the podcast, or would simply enjoy a recap on the rich learning we have heard from each guest, this summary of Season Four is for you!
And if you need any additional incentive to listen, this episode also announces the PRIZEWINNERS for our first birthday giveaway in September 2022. What a fantastic way to round out the season and also to celebrate International Podcast Day!

#062 Looking back on "Are You a Super-Helper?" with Jess Baker
23 Sep 2022
00:15:40
Are you a compulsive helper and, if so, what drives you or compels you to help others, even when helping results in your own needs being ignored and neglected?
In last week’s interview, business psychologist Jess Baker shared her own journey as a super-helper. Her mission to help others was to become her life’s work, even though this has often been to the detriment of her own wellbeing.
Looking back on our conversation, I begin by reflecting on the clarity of Jess’s mission and the powerful impact of those around her in enabling her to see the difference she too could make by becoming a helper. I then look at what we can learn from Jess’s quest to understand who she really is and her purposeful commitment to being her best self in her mission to help others.
If you’re looking to be your best self in your mission, or you know it’s time to do the personal inner-work that will take your mission to the next level, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

Wanting to help people has long been the driver behind many career and life choices, but what happens when you don’t know how to stop? What happens when you’re so compelled to be helpful that you can’t say ‘no’ to helping, even when helping would have a negative impact on your own needs or the needs of those closest to you?
Jess has been confident of her own mission, to help people, since she was aged 13 years old – a mission that has been reinforced at various stages of her life, culminating in her study of how and why some people cannot help but help, even when it’s to the detriment of their own wellbeing.
In this deeply personal conversation, psychologist Jess Baker shares her own story of being helped, as a teenager, to navigate what she would later realise was the impact of growing up with a parent who was experiencing narcissistic personality disorder. It’s a powerful account of how a lifetime of ‘doing the work’ has not only allowed Jess to find and accept who she really is, but has also inspired her latest mission-fuelled adventure: co-authoring The Super-Helper Syndrome: a survival guide for compassionate people, due for release later in September 2022.
This episode is for anyone who wants to know more about how to deepen their own self-awareness and sense of personal identity. It’s also for everyone who finds it hard to say no and wants to learn more about helping without detriment to their own well-being.

#060 Looking back on "Leading Change in Social Care" with Ali Bulman
09 Sep 2022
00:15:31
If you could ask yourself one question every day that would make a real impact on those around you, what would it be?
What would be possible, for you or your team, in your business or organisation, if you stopped to ask yourself how you – as a leader - could make it easier for everyone else to do a great job?
In last week’s interview, Ali Bulman shared several examples of how she does this as she goes about her mission on a daily basis, from removing obstacles that stand in the way to empowering others to lead too.
Looking back on our conversation, I begin by reflecting on those shared experiences that we didn’t know were part of our respective career histories in health and care. I then look at what we can learn from Ali’s experience of leading teams to create meaningful change and creating the conditions where everyone can play to their strengths.
If you’re looking to be a more effective leader and build a team that really works with and around you to make a meaningful difference, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

08 Sep 2022
00:26:45
If you’re thinking of starting a podcast, or launching any content that will draw you out of your comfort zone, this third episode in the birthday bonus trilogy is for you!
It’s been a year of learning, that’s for sure, but maybe not in the way I expected. If those four years of podcrastination and personal resistance were based on fears about technology, the real learning is much more personal – as a coach, as a business owner, and as a fellow woman on a mission.
This is the third of three episodes this week where I answer the questions that listeners have been curious about – my background, my mission, and now the podcast itself.
If you’re curious about podcasting or just wondering if I’d do it all again….. take a listen!

BONUS EPISODE: Looking back on "I'm Not Freakin' Small!" with Sue Revell
07 Sep 2022
00:19:30
For many of us, standing out isn’t easy. It’s much easier to fit in, make yourself small and blend in with the crowd. Childhood memories of “being seen by not heard” still run deep, despite also being the child who was expected to sing on the chip shop counter on Friday, and sing louder in the choir on Sunday!
Imagine then, the challenge, when your mission is to stand out. To think, dream and BE bigger so that your fears are outweighed by your life purpose, and you can’t NOT do the thing you are called to.
In yesterday’s special episode, I shared the story of my mission. And in the show today, I look back (as I do with all my guests) to see what we can learn. It starts with taking your mission seriously!
If you’re ready to make your mission bigger than your fears, this bonus Insights episode is for you.

#059 Leading Change in Social Care with Ali Bulman
03 Sep 2022
00:56:37
Delivering the re-set and recovery of adult social care services, as a result of a global pandemic, is far from being a one-woman mission. But for a woman who understands the value of creating a team, knows how to get the best out of them and isn’t afraid to surround herself with people who bring different strengths to her own, nothing is insurmountable.
Ali is on a mission to lead that recovery in Cornwall, while continuing her life-long personal mission to overcome the variety of challenges and obstacles that get in the way of delivering quality services for local residents. And for Ali, it really is personal.
In this deeply honest conversation, Ali Bulman shares how her journey of leadership started with volunteering, becoming part of a bigger family and finding joy in enabling independence. She has spent her career developing an understanding of the ‘beautifully complex’ and learning what really matters to the people she is there to serve.
Determined to deliver the very best she can, for those who are often the most vulnerable in society, Ali is the recently appointed Strategic Director for Care and Wellbeing in Cornwall Council. Her mission is guided by a strong sense of who she is (and isn’t!) and her personal commitment to being a leader who remains true to the people around her and her own deepest values.
This episode is for anyone who wants to learn more about the sweetspot in leadership where you can be the very best you can be - without compromising your own values & beliefs, and identity or purpose, OR the needs of those you are here to serve.
MORE ABOUT MY GUEST: ALI BULMAN (FULL BIO ON PODPAGE)

#058 Looking back on "Who Moved The Comfort Zone?" with Jane Duncan Rogers
26 Aug 2022
00:15:33
If you could choose between staying stuck in your zone of comfort and stepping up, into your zone of genius, which would you choose? It may not seem that simple a choice, but when your mission is the thing you can’t NOT do, there is something about the act of surrender that makes stepping into our mission easier than we might think.
Imagine what would be possible in your mission if, this time, you stepped out of your comfort zone – never to return to it again!
Jane Duncan Rogers showed us that looking inside ourselves, trusting that we have the answers, and surrendering to our calling are three of the biggest steps that can help us to make (and keep!) our mission bigger than our fears.
Looking back on our conversation, I begin by reflecting on my own experience of end of life planning and the steps that I could personally take to help move Jane’s mission forward. I then look at what we can learn from Jane’s experience of trusting the universe to teach us who we need to BE to impactfully lead our mission.
If you’re ready to learn how to handle less comfort and more growth in your mission, this week’s Insights episode is for you.

#057 Who Moved The Comfort Zone? with Jane Duncan Rogers
19 Aug 2022
00:40:58
If the only certainty in life is death, why are we so reluctant to talk about it? Whether it’s fear of illness or the unknown, unwillingness to discuss what may be seen as morbid or macabre, or avoidance of confronting our own mortality, death remains a taboo subject for many people.
Jane is on a mission to make end of life planning as commonplace as birth plans. As you will hear, she is determined to help us feel more at ease talking about death, dying and grief. And, as she talks, she models beautifully the very lightness which Jane believes makes these difficult conversations easier.
In this deeply personal conversation, Jane Duncan Rogers shares how her mission began when her husband died. She describes how a friend urged and nudged them to have *that* all important conversation before it was too late and shares how positive the impact can be when an end of life plan is created.
Committed to helping us do death well, Jane is now running a Social Enterprise to support the teaching and facilitation of end of life planning. At every twist and turn, her mission has remained the thing she can’t NOT do, and she hasn’t seen the inside of her comfort zone since the day it all began.
