| Episode 252-Level 1 Kits, Wolfpack Perks & Avoiding Costly Mistakes | 20 Nov 2025 | 00:29:11 | |
In this episode of the Long Range Shooting and Custom Rifle Building Podcast, Jamie continues our deep-dive series into the Wolf Precision Rifle Build Kits—specifically the Level 1 / unassembled kit and why our professional inspection of every component matters. Jamie shares real-world examples from 20+ years of building custom rifles, including the hidden stock and chassis issues that can damage triggers, receivers, create feeding problems, or cripple accuracy before the rifle ever sees the range. He explains why having a gunsmith inspect every component—actions, barrels, stocks, chassis, triggers, inlets, action screws and more—can save you money, time, and heartache while guaranteeing that your rifle actually performs when you put it together. We also dive into the new Wolfpack program, how the Lone Wolf, Pack Hunter, and Alpha Pack tiers work, the massive discounts they offer, and how they integrate directly with the Level 1, 2, and 3 build kit system—plus early access to the Prosumer Gunsmithing School starting December 1st. If you're considering building a Wolf Precision rifle, want to save money without sacrificing performance, or simply want to understand how to avoid the most common build-kit mistakes, this is a must-listen episode.

| Episode 251 - Levels, Not Labels: Your Path to a Custom ACE Rifle | 10 Nov 2025 | 00:22:12 | |
A practical guide to Wolf Precision's Level 1–3 builds, Gen-4 ACE with BAT actions, and the new prosumer gunsmithing path. In Episode 251, Jamie Dodson breaks down Wolf Precision's new three-level path for owning a custom ACE-based rifle—designed to save you money, build real skills, and put world-class performance in your hands.
Jamie explains why we pair the Gen-4 ACE with BAT Machine receivers (Igniter, VR, TR, Bumblebee, Vampire, Vesper, and more): consistency, perfect headspace, and true repeatability. You'll also hear about the upcoming Prosumer Gunsmithing School (online and in-person Armory sessions), live ACE install demos planned for SHOT Show 2026 and the Great American Outdoor Show, and why paying $10–15K for a rifle isn't a prerequisite for excellence. Sponsors: Krieger Barrels (check Krieger Direct) and TriggerTech (simple, safe, two-pin install). If you've ever wanted to say "I built it," this episode shows you how.

| Episode 242 – Shooting Under Pressure & The ACE System Explained | 20 Aug 2025 | 00:36:41 | |
When the pressure is on—whether it's the final stage of a match or a once-in-a-lifetime shot in the field—most shooters make the same mistake: they try harder, clamp down, and unknowingly sabotage their rifle's accuracy. In this episode, Jamie Dodson of Wolf Precision dives into the realities of shooting under pressure, why fundamentals matter most when it counts, and how to avoid letting nerves dictate your shot. Jamie also clears the air about Wolf Precision's patented ACE system. While often misunderstood as simply a caliber-swapping convenience, the ACE was designed to solve one of the biggest accuracy thieves in rifles: crooked throats. Learn how it duplicates the precision of spider-indicated chambering, improves consistency, and helps deliver repeatable accuracy shot after shot. Whether you're looking to perform better under stress or understand what makes a custom rifle truly accurate, this episode will give you clarity and confidence behind the rifle.

| Episode 152 - You can't fix stupid, but it seams to be on sale everywhere. | 25 Apr 2023 | 00:37:36 | |
With just finishing up a class and having years of trying to sort out semi custom and home built rifles on the firing line. I am finally ready to give my opinion as to when you should go custom. I am also here to point out pretty bluntly, that although I find most people to have good intentions, you know the saying on the road to hell being paved with them. Over the years I have been put in harms way many times. Part of it came with the job. But now, it seems that the rifles being home built or sold as pre-fits have come main stream and I need to put a shout out here. I have seen so many situations arise from the unexpected customer of these sellers and builders. Some so dangerouse that it makes me think twice whenever I am out with a group of unknown shooters. Having seen everything from unfinished chambers, unspinning barrels, suppressors explode, suppressors shot off and in several occasions catching problems just in time to prevent a catastrophy. I hope you enjoy this one and I hope it gives you some ideas on what you can get yourself into when it comes to home built or pre-fit customs. It might save you time, money or even your life.

| Episode 151 - The "drop in" chassis and stocks...the good, bad and ugly truth on why bedding is often necessary! | 20 Apr 2023 | 00:35:21 | |
In the custom rifle world, we deal with this issue all the time..."drop in" or "drop fit" stocks and chassis. Too often the marketing powers that be decide to use the term "drop fit," saying that you just bolt it in and your rifle will shoot better and fit without a problem. However, there is a huge difference between fitting, fitting well and fitting perfectly. This can play out with not just accuracy and repeatability issues, but can lead to eventual damage to your rifle. Don't fall victim to this word play. If you want to get the best from your rifle with this type of upgrade, have it fitted or at the very least checked to make sure you have enough of the right contact. If it does not, than you should have it bedded by a professional. We also want to invite a couple of listeners to the show to share their stories of their hunt or match experiences in a series we are calling "preparing for the hunt" and "preparing for the match." Please email us your stories, both the good the bad, to our email address at contact@wolfprecison.net for your chance to be chosen to come on the air and be part of the show. We will be selecting the top three entries, so submit yours today. Please put in the subject line - "Preparing for the hunt" or "Preparing for the match." | Episode 149 - Getting good D.O.P.E. for your rifle part 4, fixing a manual click chart. | 07 Apr 2023 | 00:33:07
I say this often, there are many matches in the past where I have placed or won but was not the best shooter there. What pushed me to the top at several events was knowing and having confidence in my D.O.P.E. at distance. You can do everything right fundamentally, and if you're D.O.P.E. is off, it will mean a miss or at least a less than perfect shot. You cannot runaway or hide from this issue. It exist and you have to iron it out for your individual rifle. This will keep more shots on target and leave you with a little better sense of confidence in yourself and your equipment. | Episode 148 - Getting good D.O.P.E. for your rifle part 3, the B.C. trap. | 30 Mar 2023 | 00:14:36
In this podcast we go over the B.C. trap that most shooters fall into. When we are calculating our D.O.P.E. for our rifle, we use this number as if it is the gospel truth. The problem, it is more of a guideline than a fact. Your rifle barrel can deform and transform you bullet as it passes through the bore. This changes the B.C. from rifle to rifle like a fingerprint. If you want to learn how to get great D.O.P.E. for your rifle, you need to be aware of this problem and in later episodes how we try to fix it. | Episode 146 - Getting good D.O.P.E. for your rifle part 1. | 16 Mar 2023 | 00:37:08
In this episode we go over the start of our series on how to get good working dope for your rifle. There are several things we are going to cover while diving into this subject with one being the issue with the curvature of the rifle bore. I said that right, the rifle bore. You're rifling inside your barrel is curved and although most don't talk about it, most don't even know about it. It has several issues with a rifles accuracy while trying to build, but for shooters, it causes issues with trying to figure out how to get good working D.O.P.E. for your rifle. Here is a couple videos to show you just how common this is and how some try to fix it, including bending the barrel to straighten out the inside. Amazing to watch and jaw dropping to think that is so bad that it has to be bent back out after the barrel has been made. Below are a couple YouTube videos posted by others showing the process. | Episode 144 - The Fundamentals of marksmanship part 5. Shoot! | 03 Mar 2023 | 00:36:44
Jamie and Richard dive into the last part of this mini series with some final thoughts and advice, one of which is you have to get out and shoot! Knowledge and wisdom are not the same. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad. If you want to become a better shooter, you have to grow beyond the studies and research. In the end, you have to commit to getting to the range (with a plan) and spending quality time on the rifle squezing the trigger. This is where you will master the craft and will go from good to great. | Episode 143 - A new chapter. Having and keeping faith while overcoming obstacles in business. | 25 Feb 2023 | 00:34:45
We just closed on the biggest project we have ever undertaken and this was not on purpose or planned. Things happen in business as in life that at first glance look like bad luck, bad news or an insurmountable obstacle that has just landed in your path. At 52, this still catches me off guard and can shake you to your core. But these things that at first glance appear to be a negative, are often the things you needed to challenge you and force you outside your comfort zone to grow and stretch is ways you never before thought possible. That is what happened to us a week before Christmas 2022. After being given just 4 months to move and close our business from it's current location, to be candid, the drive home felt like the walls closing in. But this time with decades of these obstacles being put in my path and eventually overcome, I kept faith. I put my boots on and went to work trying to find a new location. Weeks went by with not a remotely close candidate for a building that would fill our needs, but still we kept looking and trying. This past Thursday, on February the 23rd, just two short months to the day of this devastating news, we are now owners of our own manufacturing facility along with two new world class machines being delivered shortly. A building so perfect for all we do, that we could not have drawn it out any better from scratch. Not to mention, it is 1 mile from our home and up until January, we didn't even know it existed. I want to share with you our story and to encourage all small businesses out there to keep the faith and keep moving forward. To look at obstacles not as hurdles you cannot get over, but as challenges that are put there to make you grow, stretch and mold you into the owner that must you become to handle the future that is ahead of you. This has played out many times in my life and to this day, I often find myself looking up at the mountain way up high and wondering, is that even possible? Only to find myself weeks, months or years later on the other side. Keep the faith and know that these obstacles would not be put there if you were not ready to face them and know that what may seem impossible at first glance, are put there to take you to the next level.

| Episode 241: BDC Turrets & Reticles – Being Duped for Cash? | 15 Aug 2025 | 00:33:18 | |
In this episode of the Long Range Shooting and Custom Rifle Building Podcast, Jamie Dodson takes a hard look at BDC turrets and reticles — and why he jokingly calls them "Being Duped for Cash." From the break-in period of a new rifle to the effects of density altitude, Jamie explains why these systems often fail at longer ranges and how they can give hunters a false sense of security. He shares real-world examples from the Wolf Precision shooting school, breaks down where BDC systems work and where they don't, and offers practical advice on dialing dope the right way in minutes or mils. Plus, updates on Wolf Precision's 2026 Long Range Shooting School, build-assist experiences, and upcoming Rifle Readiness Clinics. Whether you're a seasoned marksman or just stepping into the world of precision shooting, this episode is packed with insights to help you shoot smarter, not gimmick-harder.

In this podcast, we go over the concept of groups and the importance of how we look at them and use them. If you truly want to know where you are at in your ability to shoot accurately with consistancy, then you have to shoot some groups and, in doing so, you have to take an honest big picture approach. This allows you to have a true baseline on where you are at now, and a way you will measure your progress moving forward. Don't fall victim to skewing the numbers for bragging rights. | Episode 139 - The Fundamentals of marksmanship part 2. Also, equipment selection when build the best matters. | 27 Jan 2023 | 00:36:29
In this episode we take on a listener question on "what is drving the rifle?". There are many truths to learning to shoot a rifle well. This concept of drving the rifle has more to it than meets the eye. We also dive into machining and equipment. Why is it that those that are touting to be the best always settle for barely aceptable or less than ideal equipment. If just good enough is ok when it comes to selecting the machines that makes your high dollar rifle, what does that say about the company and how that probably applies to all the other choices they make. Its sort of back handed when you say your the best, say you build the best, but when it comes to the equipment you choose, you don't buy the best. This is what seperates those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk. It is not cheap, easy or even for the faint of heart. If your companies true beliefs are you build the best, shouldn't your equipemnt you choose speak in volume and reflect it. Don't look behnd the curtain too far, as many in the industry say one thing on the sales floor, but won't put your money where there mouth is when it comes to investing in the best equipment for the job. Instead, the money goes into the pocket and your rifle is made on the cheapest equipement they can get by with.

| Episode 138 - Fundamentals of marksmanship part II, seeing is not believing. | 20 Jan 2023 | 00:35:05 | |
In this episode we tackle what I think is the biggest misconception to precision shooting and it is how we are looking at it all wrong. No pun intended, but seeing is not believing. Most people think marksmanship or hitting a target is simply or mostly vision. Line the target up with the reticle and you hit everytime. To be honost that process is the easiest to do and has the smallest effect while trying to go from good to great. Change how you look at marksmanship, becouse most if it does not require your sight. | Episode 135 - Preparing for the range and the difference having a purpose will make. Also, happy new year from all of us here at Wolf Precision. | 29 Dec 2022 | 00:26:42
In this episode we talk about preparing for the range to train and having a purpose or goal. This is the first in a series in which we are going to dive into the fundamentals of marksmanship. This episode is from a customer that had stopped by this week who had watched and was a big fan of a video we produced called "All Hogs go to Heaven" part 1. And it reminded me on how making that video changed how we trained and how we have approached training ever since. Having a purpase, reason or goal really makes all the difference. So when you go to the range next time, go with a purpose in mind and train for a goal. We also want to wish all of you a Happy New Year from all of us here at Wolf Precision. | EP 134 - Safety part II. Safety, first aid, wilderness survival gear, tips and training we took with Angel Trauma Solutions. | 23 Dec 2022 | 00:37:53
In this podcast, we continue on with more safety talk. This time, on how we approach training and things we should be thinking about when it comes to spending our time in the great outdoors. From match shooting to hunting, what we do can be dangerous and we accept that risk. But what about the little things we don't think about or take into consideration? From first aid kits, communications, strategies and training we should take to prepare ourselves in case the worst happens or a situation turns from an incident to life threatening. These things happen and situations can change in an instant. The gear you take, the training you attended and the safety precations built into your approach to being part of the outdoors can mean the difference between you making it home or on the list of the missing who too often are found deceased. We attended a class at Angel Trauma Solutions and it really awakened the realization that we should be doing more of this type of training and was a good reminder to always train and prepare as if your life or someone you love depends on it. The number one preventable death in America is from blood loss traumas and in some cases you may have less that two minutes to save a life. | Episode 240: Minutes vs. Mils – The Little White Lie in American Hunting | 25 Jul 2025 | 00:40:51
In this episode, we're pulling back the curtain on a long-standing myth in the American hunting community: that 1 MOA equals 1 inch at 100 yards. Spoiler alert—it doesn't. Jamie Dodson walks you through the real math behind minutes and mils, compares their pros and cons, and explains why the "language of hunters" might be more marketing than fact. We're diving deep into how rounding MOA values distorts your accuracy, why mils are faster, cleaner, and more honest, and why most of the world—and long-range shooters—prefer them. If you've ever been told that minutes are "simple" or "easier," this episode might change the way you shoot forever. Plus, we preview next week's episode where we expose the truth behind BDC turrets—it's not bullet drop compensation, it's being duped for cash. Brought to you by:

| Episode 132 - Caliber selection and coming up with a rating system on how they compare for hunting, especially for big game. | 08 Dec 2022 | 00:40:53 | |
The top ten Elk Catridges. This video on YouTube has gotten our attention on the pitch and strike when it comes to forcing the belief you must use big hard hitting magnums as acceptable minimum caliber for Elk. There is so much wrong with those statements, mostly due to marketing, writers and the quest to have the biggest baddest caliber on the block. Too many times, new shooters and hunters get exposed to the "experts" and buy all in on the concept that a poor shot with a big magnum will still kill the animal. Not only it this not true, but the followers of this madness will all but ensure a bad shot as most new or young shooters cannot shoot them well. They will not enjoy shooting it, they will not practice as much because of it. And in a lot of cases will not go out and "waste" a lot of ammo training because of the $100 or more per box price. You can accomplish more than you think will small and sometimes really small calibers. You will learn to shoot! You will practice because you will be having fun doing it. And when the time comes "shot placement and bullet selection" will put the trophy on the wall. Don't fall for the "expert" writters opintions so easily. Take it all with a grain of salt. They are the car salesmen of the gun industry. They are beholden to and subservient. Don't believe me? I challenge you to go through your last 20 magazines and find one critical/bad review of any rifle. And don't think for a minute they are all expert marksmen or woodsmen at that too. We are working on a series of YouTube videos to balance the scales and to give you another point of view from people who love to shoot first and take the importance of marksmanship and one's abilities to shoot certain calibers well as a choice that should not be taken lightly. Ever thought about being a part of the rifle building world? | Episode 129 - Triggers, Scopes, Movers and Chassis for Hunting. | 18 Nov 2022 | 00:44:15
In this episode, we cover a variety of topics including the movers class that we just finished, chassis for hunting, trigger failures and optics. The safety conversation on the potential for extremely dangerous trigger failures are worth the listen alone. One topic that I really think is worth a listen, too, is how to break in a scope and get it ready for repeatable long term use. We hope you enjoy the podcast as Richard joins us for another great episode.

| Episode 127 - Drive the rifle and shoot, new online long range shooting school. | 03 Nov 2022 | 00:29:35 | |
Let's talk about shooting, marksmanship and having confidence to drive the rifle. Knowing you can shoot and hit without technology when it's needed and when it counts the most. We also talk about having lists, pre-flight. Things you should be doing to prepare for the range before you go, things to do at the range and what you do when you get home. Having a list of things you check both before and after can save you a lot of grief when preparing for a hunt, match or range trip. I love pilots for this very reason. They have a checklist for everything, including pre-flight which I think is the most important. | Episode 125 - Bedding, Cerakote and Barreled Actions! | 22 Oct 2022 | 00:33:36
In this episode we talk about bedding, cerakote and barreled actions. We just returned from our trip to Redstone Arsenal, AL and Ft. Benning, GA. Bedding is a topic that came up and barreled action requests are common here at the shop. They both go hand in hand and with a new chassis in the shop being bedded as we speak, this was the right time to answer why we do not offer or sell just barreled actions. We have to see the rifle through to the very end if you are to have the success and accuracy you are expecting from it! | Episode 124 - Q & A on carbon vs steel and the difference between creativity and Innovation. | 13 Oct 2022 | 00:20:01
In this episode we take a question from Casey on carbon Vs steel barrels. We also dive into a little business on the difference between innovation and creativity. I hope to encourage you to try to put some of your ideas to the test and make or invent that product or widget. Write that song, code or book. Too many times, the best inventions never see the light of day, simply because the creativity part was realized but never acted on to bring it to a realization. It is the greatest feeling in the world and i want to encourage everyone to so that they may experience it too. It will make your heart and soul smile if you do, so do it.
| Ep123 - Why the ACE is so important to bring rifles to a higher level of accuracy consistently. | 30 Sep 2022 | 00:33:09 | |
When we talk about the future of rifles, not just custom, you get a choice of two out of three options...quick, good (quality) and cheap. But you can only choose two. You want quality and you want it now, it's not going to be cheap. You want quality and cheap, it's not going to be quick. You want cheap and fast, its probably not going to be good good. The major problem isn't that the perfect rifle can't be made by the highest quality gunsmith on his very best day and using the very best techniques. The problem is that the process is slow and not repeatable as scale. Because you are limited by that gunsmiths time and the quality of skill he apples that day. If he speeds up, the quality goes down. It he is tired, the quality suffers. If he can make the perfect rifle on Monday, does he have the physical and mental stamina to maintain that ultra high level of detail to attention for the rest of the week and every rifle he continues to build that week? Or does he tire, lose a little focus or just stop caring as much, maybe in an effort to just finish? The ACE isn't the only way to build the perfect rifle, it is the only way to build the perfect rifle at scale. Achieving the same level of accuracy as the best gunsmith in the world on his very best day in a way that is production sustainable. Our mission in creating the ACE was not in trying to find a way to make the perfect rifle, our mission was trying to find a way to make the perfect rifle every single time without relying on an individuals skill or abilities that day. Which is where the ACE was born and the problem solved. As we move forward in the future, you can have the best, you can have it now and you can have it at a better price, every time with every rifle.

| EP 105 - Part 2, the tipping point for better shooting with light rifles. | 06 May 2022 | 00:29:57 | |
Lets face it, if we forced match shooters to shoot ultra-light rifles in magnum calibers, would they have the same score they normally would have with their match gun? In selecting a hunting rifle, we do everything the exact opposite a match shooter would do to shoot better. This is about to change and it has to do with several things happening at the same time: gear, calibers, and bullets. | EP 104 - Part 1, the tipping point for better shooting with light rifles. | 29 Apr 2022 | 00:32:55
EP 104 - What great shooters know is that weight matters and it is an aid to accuracy. What hunters know is weight matters and heavy rifles suck to carry. What great shooters know is small calibers are easier to learn and shoot more accurately when combined with a heavy rifle. What most hunters mistakenly think is that the bigger caliber, the better. I can't think of any place where accuracy is more important than when trying to harvest an animal, yet most hunters do the complete opposite of what most great shooters know. They go light in terms of weight and big in terms of caliber. Both of these can have huge negative impacts on your ability to learn and grow as a shooter, along with your overall accuracy level.
