Knock Knock, Who's There?25 Aug 202401:12:45

Poltergeist meaning..

The word poltergeist comes from the German poltern, 'to make sound, to rumble,' and Geist, 'ghost, spirit.' The term itself translates as 'noisy ghost', 'rumble-ghost', or a 'loud spirit'.

One of the tricks a poltergeist is known for is making "knocking" noises, so it will come as no surprise to learn that the word poltergeist translates literally from German as "knocking spirit." The German verb poltern means "to knock," and Geist is the German word for "spirit."

Yes, we have finally decided to look at everyone's favourite, the Poltergeist. Of course, we couldn't just take a run-of-the-mill look at them. Oh no, we decided to take a deep dive and question whether poltergeists are something special or just another ghost with added oomph!!

Poltergeist hauntings are often some of the most intense and terrifying haunting experiences. We will not deny that but do these intense hauntings need their unique label? Are poltergeists something completely separate from the average haunting experience?

Some schools of thought believe that Poltergeist is a convenient label to attach to specific hauntings. Others believe poltergeist hauntings follow a set process or go through certain stages. We share a few of our thoughts and tell a few haunting stories related to poltergeist experiences to let you all decide what you think about poltergeists. We would love you to tell us your theories or, better yet, share your own ghostly experiences with us.

Some Items To Die For26 Jul 202401:00:03

Welcome to the third and final episode in our "Haunted and Cursed" trilogy. In this episode, we cover the sinister side of cursed objects.

Once again, we have gone on an internet deep dive to bring you a selection of strange items, each with a terrible tale to tell.

Of course, it's much more exciting if you can see the objects in question, and once again, we have added a post to our Substack with pictures of all the items mentioned in the episode. Just click on the link below as you listen to the episode. It's surprising just how mundane some of these items are. It just goes to show you can never judge by appearance!!

https://outthereparanormal.substack.com/p/some-items-to-die-for

A warning to the curious: if someone offers you an item they are desperate to get rid of, think very carefully before you accept it because you may be getting a lot more than you bargained for!😱😱🫣

If You Go Down To The Woods Today16 Jul 202301:15:53

We had this strange idea. Why not go on an investigation and record it as a podcast episode?

So that's exactly what we did!

Juliette had some strange experiences at a local woodland spot. Making this location the perfect place

for our podcast experiment.

However, we got much more than we bargained for, wandering around in the woods after dark!

WARNING

This episode does contain swear words so it may not be suitable for younger or more sensitive listeners.

We would also like to point out. Nigel did some background research on the location and uncovered some horrific incidents that took place in or around this location. We did not go here with the specific intention of trying to contact the victims of these incidents. After discovering what happened here, We have thought about releasing this podcast. We are not going to give details of the incidents but felt it was the responsible thing to do to advise people that we were aware of what took place here and that we have the utmost respect for the victims.

They Came From Outer Space.10 Mar 202301:02:56

They said the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one, but it's not Mars they are coming from!

Join Juliette and Nigel as they dive into the murky world of UFOs and conspiracy theories. From fear-inducing radio shows to a flying saucer crash

via strange lights chasing WW2 planes. All served up with an awful lot of enthusiasm from Juliette, who happens to love anything UFO related.

We go off track quite a lot in this episode, as there are so many rabbit holes to fall down, but we get there eventually.

It's fun to talk about a different topic. There's so much more to the paranormal than ghosts

True Love Never Dies13 Feb 202300:41:34

We just had to do it—a Valentine's Day gift for our lovely listeners.

Join Juliette and Nigel as they share romantic stories, each with a little twist for you to enjoy.

You can expect the usual shambles as they go off track several times, but they always find their way back.

Both informative and, dare we say, amusing in equal measures, filled with love and joy.

Happy Valentines Day to you all

Should we say who? I always thought these Valentine's things had to be anonymous ❤️

Bones On The Beach23 Jan 202300:53:29

Nigel and Juliette kick off season 3 by returning to their favourite place, the beach, to bring you more ghosts from the coast.

Join the intrepid duo as they look into missing towns, and church bells that toll in the deep. Journeying to strangely named places with a gruesome history to share.

Take a trip with them to a seaside gem to see what spooks lurk behind the scenes in the theatre on the pier, then listen to the tale of the bones on the beach and why its not wise to take found objects home.

Just for clarity, ATS actually stands for Auxilary Territorial Services and not Army Training Services as Nigel thought.

The T-34/85 tank was purchased from the Czech army and did not see action in WW2

The Ones That Got Away24 Dec 202200:41:36

Seasons Greetings and welcome to our version of festive fun.

For the last few years, we have rolled out an Alternative Advent in the run-up to the festive season, and this year has been no different. However,

we found that we missed just one or two stories. So we decided on a podcast in order to share them with you.

Here are the ones that got away. We must warn you in advance that this podcast contains some ribald language and possibly a few sexual references and may not be a podcast to share with your family after you've stuffed your face with turkey.

We hope you enjoy the tales

Portents & Omens07 Dec 202200:48:26

Do you know what it means when an Owl lands on your bedpost?

How about three knocks on your door, and when you open it, no one is there?

Juliette and Nigel may have the answers for you in this episode. Listen carefully because the signs are all around us!

We tell you how to interpret them and what to avoid in our own special style.

Fact Or Folklore?14 Oct 202200:37:21

Juliette and Nigel have set a challenge.

For those of you who had the unbridled joy of team meetings and training courses, do you remember the great icebreakers that were deployed at the beginning?

A selection of "incredible" little games introduces attendees to each other and creates a happy atmosphere.😂😂

Well, we have set up our icebreaker! It's that awful one where you say three things about yourself, two genuine, and one fib. You have to guess which fact is a fib. Of course, we have adapted the game a little to suit our purpose. In our game, we tell you three local gruesome tales, two of them are based on facts, and one is just a folklore story. Listen carefully to each of our tales, then tell us which one is the odd one out. Just to add to the fun, Juliette and Nigel play the game too, with facts about themselves, two genuine and one that's pure invention!!

Join the fun and listen in, and if you feel so inclined, come tell us on our Twitter which ones you believe are facts and which are just tall tales.

Something Very Fishy!14 Sep 202200:43:21

After a little summer break, Nige and Juliette are podcasting once again.

It's all gone, just a little bit fishy in this episode!

Juliette loves mermaids. She wears a tiny silver one around her neck, has a house full of mermaid niknaks and believe it or not, she has a mermaid tail!!

She wanted to talk about mermaids, so we decided to look into a few local tales and share them with you, and of course, a lot of

fishy mayhem ensued. Sit back and enjoy as they cover such diverse topics as how difficult it is to move in a mermaid costume, the history of fish fingers and how to fool a freak show audience with a dead monkey and a large fish!!

We're Going On a Ghost Hunt22 Jul 202200:56:34

Hey ho off we go. Join Juliette and Nigel as they take you on a couple of spooky journeys.

Ghost Hunts, or Pay For Scares, we may have been overly critical of these organised events in the past.

So to set the record straight, we decided to partake in one ourselves. It just so happens we were also asked to help

host one. So here is our take on organised ghost hunts from both sides.

Expect the usual chaos, as we decided scripts are no longer required, and adlib is the way to go.

Enjoy ❤️

Haunted and Cursed15 May 202400:48:25

After our shopping spree in the last episode, we realised that our possessed furniture quest had seriously sidetracked us.

So much so, in fact, that we did not really get into any in-depth explanation as to why there could be haunted or, worse still, cursed objects around.

Well, we hope we have put that right in this episode. Join us as we wax lyrical about how something spooky might have got into your Gran's old teapot or why everyone sitting on Uncle Fred's chair ends up having a nasty accident!

We both talk a lot on this episode and as always, we go off on a few tangents, disappearing down various paranormal rabbit holes. So please bear with us as we share some interesting points.

Now, if you have any creepy tales of your own haunted or cursed objects, a ghostly tale of your own to tell, or want to ask us a question, we would love to hear from you. Email us at outtheregroup@icloud.com, and we will share your email on the show.

Sometimes They Come Back22 Jun 202200:45:59

Join Nigel and Juliette for a podcast full of emotion as they chat about what a massive part our pets can play in our lives and how sometimes they can come back when they are gone.

Do you believe in animal ghosts? Do you think that somehow animals can see or sense things that are invisible to humans?

Listen as they share stories about their own pets, fondly remembered, who they think came back to check on them.

There are also tales of other paranormal animals for you to all enjoy.

We hope you all laugh and cry as much as we did whilst recording this.

If you have any stories of your own, we would love to hear them❤️

The Lantern Men18 May 202200:22:31

I read books, in fact, I read an awful lot of books.

Factual or fictional, I honestly don't care, if it's something that piques my interest, then I will lose myself in the pages.

I was inspired to record this episode by a book that my wife suggested I might like to read.

Another local tale from the wilds of Norfolk that has variations spread across the world.

Strange lights on dark and misty nights, pale flickering flames tempting the lost traveller. But beware for its not safety that lies there, for these are the lights of the Lantern men and they lie in wait out there in the darkness.

For those of you interested in reading the aforementioned book, I've included a link to the author's page about this particular title

Of Witch's Legs and Other Questions.04 May 202201:20:26

We recently started a new video series, called "Tales of Haunted Norfolk", where we look into some of the many spooky stories from our home county.

Each episode tells a tale, accompanied by an investigation. The first story we told took us to East Somerton, the ruins of St mary's Church and the tale of the witch's leg.

Thinking it would be just a quiet night in a ruined church, we were not prepared for the strange experiences we had there.

Join Nigel and Juliette as they delve a little deeper into their East Somerton experiences, with some help from Bethan Briggs-Miller from the Eerie Essex podcast.

They also answer a series of questions from their Twitter followers on how they go about their investigation process.

Questions Questions16 Feb 202201:05:24

Join Nigel and Juliette with an informal chat around all things paranormal

We decided to ask our Twitter friends if they had any questions they would like to ask us.

Much to our surprise, we had quite a few!

In the first of two episodes attempting to answer the questions, Nigel and Juliette talk about

what got them interested in the paranormal and whether they are skeptics or believers amongst other things.

Many thanks to all of our Twitter friends who sent questions, we had so many we could not answer them all

so there will be a Part Two.

This episode is a little longer than usual, as we got rather distracted. It also features Izzi the cat, who is fast becoming

Family Ghosts01 Feb 202200:26:56

I wanted to tell some ghostly tales on this little podcast.

Not wanting to bore you all with a load of second-hand stories, I wanted instead to share a few first-hand experiences, straight from the original witnesses.

The question I asked myself, is where would I find these stories to tell?

I decided to look a little closer to home, so I asked my family if they had spooky tales of their own to tell me. Much to my surprise, they had one or two interesting stories to share.

So welcome to Family Ghosts, a series of personal stories relating to my family encounters with the paranormal.

Trains, Planes and Automobiles11 Feb 202400:47:51

It's the first episode in season 3, and it's time to go on a journey.

How will we travel though? Well, here's a choice of three modes of transport that can get you from A to B, but they could also take you somewhere

a little bit more unpleasant! Of course, there are your travelling companions to consider, too; just who is that strange figure sitting over there?

Let the train take the strain, board the plane to fly away, turn the ignition key to start the engine, and let us begin our journey.

We do hope you enjoy the ride😱

Richard Freeman Interview24 Nov 202301:04:18

We've been promising a cryptozoologist guest for ages and finally managed to capture one!

Join Nigel and Juliette as they run a few creature questions past the zoological director from The Centre for Fortean Zoology, Mr Richard Freeman.

It is not all Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. Many other curious creatures are hiding in hard to reach locations around the world, and Richard has been on many expeditions to find them.

He tells us about a few of his expeditions and the strange creatures he was looking for.

Richard has written, co-written, or edited a number of books and has contributed widely to both Fortean and zoological magazines, as well as other newspapers and periodicals, including Fortean Times and Paranormal Magazine. He has also lectured across the UK at events such as the Fortean Times Unconvention and the ASSAP convention, Seriously Strange.

Apologies for the poor sound quality in some areas, we had a lot of trouble with the audio from Richard's feed.

If you want to know more about the Centre For Fortean Zoology, we strongly recommend a visit to their website at https://cfz.org.uk/

If you would like to see more information about the books Richard has written, we have included this link to his Amazon page https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/Richard-Freeman/author/B00385MYHG?ref=ap_rdr&store_ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true

Just Cruising Around23 Aug 202300:55:54

It's summer holiday time, folks, and we would love to take you away somewhere exciting.

We've been to the beach twice in previous episodes, but this time round, we are taking you on a cruise.

Join Juliette and Nigel on the holiday of a lifetime as they jump onboard the SS What's Out There to sail the seven seas

and bring you a few nautical tales of terror.

From phantom ships that appear out of nowhere to vessels drifting by seemingly abandoned, until you get onboard and realise

the crew never left at all.

Of course, we had to include some ships with extra crew members and guests who may not be all that they seem.

Make sure you know where the lifeboats are in case you need to leave in a hurry.
