What Lingers is a podcast that goes beyond the story’s end, exploring the questions, insights, and revelations that linger after personal tales are shared. 

This podcast is a project from the team behind Storytelling Lisboa. Once a month, Storytelling Lisboa fills a stage with real people sharing true, personal stories in front of a live audience. This open, inclusive event encourages newcomers and celebrates community by creating a free space for connection. But so often a story leaves threads that need more unraveling. 

That’s where What Lingers comes in. Each episode invites a past storyteller to revisit their narrative in front of a smaller audience in an intimate setting and stay for a deeper conversation, exploring the nuances and untold details that linger in their stories. Hosts Cristian Figueroa and Liz Melchor sit down with the storyteller and get to dive deeper into the moments that captivate and connect us. 

Each episode is taped live in front of a small audience who we invite into the conversation. Join us on What Lingers and discover the questions, reflections, and revelations that surface when stories are shared once more.

Our Format:

1. Brief Introduction by hosts Liz and Cristian.
2. Storytelling Segment: A new storyteller each episode shares a true, personal story in about ten minutes.
3. In-Depth Conversation: The storyteller and hosts dive deeper into the story.
4. Audience Interaction: We open the floor to the audience, inviting them to ask their own questions and add new perspectives.

About Storytelling Lisboa:

Storytelling Lisboa is a volunteer-driven community hosting free monthly storytelling events in both English and Portuguese, with an open stage welcoming everyone to share their stories. We’re rooted in values of inclusion, diversity, and vulnerability, embracing the full range of human experiences. In addition to our live events, we offer workshops designed to help build confidence for those who may be hesitant to step up to the microphone. The hosts are Liz Melchor, an American ex-writer and almost therapist who now is a visual artist drawing with robots, and Cristian Figueroa, a Colombian neuroscientist and holistic therapist, who both love stories and human complexity.
