This week, Elle and Kay discussed Basted by Abby Hunter.

WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙

This week, Elle has some "what not to do" financial advice in the first year of a relationship, and Kay gets to the root of where her hopeless romantic ideals come from. They question the choice to keep the MMCs as turkey basters instead of going the typical sentient object route of turning them into men, though the addition of magical tendrils helps a little. Also, as always, Elle has a visceral reaction to the introduction of gravy into places gravy should never go.

Overall, this was a ⭐ from both Elle and Kay. Its been a while since we had a story that really needed a little more plot for both of us.

Get ready for growls, laughs, and all the soapbox talks from Nik. Somehow, in a book about a succubus possessed crocheted candy corn, we discuss dating apps, utilizing toys with a partner, and of course, the age old debate of whether or not candy corn actually tastes good. Nik coins a new gender neutral term, and comes up with a term of endearment that both he and Elle are not at liberty to use as members of Camp No Candy Corn.

Overall, Kay gives this ⭐⭐⭐ while both Nik and Elle rated it a little higher at ⭐⭐⭐.5, and then we get a special treat of dual fan casts from Kay and Nik.

Oh boy do we have a special one for you today. This week, in honor of the upcoming fall season, we read Corn Daddy by Helena Woodcock.

WITS Smut Scale Rating: 🐙🐙🐙🐙

We weren't really prepared for all of the dark romance elements in this book, which we really should have, considering the shopping list of trigger warnings. Elle and Kay discuss whether or not we would have the same reaction to finding ourselves in the predicament where our main character first meets the Corn King. We were also surprised to find that Corn Daddy has some boundaries when they first appear to not be on the same page with what they were each looking for out of their relationship. Also, we may never look at an ear of corn or melted butter the same way ever again.

This was the first book in a while that Kay and Elle had drastic differences in their ratings! Elle thought this was juuuust a little too weird for her and gave this ⭐⭐ while Kay loved the dark romance elements and thought it was also kind of hilarious, giving this ⭐⭐⭐⭐. We are back with a bit of a darker story from of our favorite authors, Vera Valentine. Another week, another Google search for Kay... who is going to volunteer to delete her browser history if anything happens? They discuss yet another sentient object/shifter romance, with yet another food flavored... well, you know. Also, Vera writes a pretty interesting miscommunication trope that moves things along between two of the characters.

Overall, Kay gave this ⭐⭐⭐⭐, still of the opinion that Vera Valentine can do no wrong, while Elle gave this ⭐⭐⭐, feeling like she wanted a little more.

WITS Smut Scale: 🐙 (1.5?)

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are back on our bullshit! This book had us back to feeling the way we were a la Unhinged. To start- Kay gives Elle a bit of an education on the difference between Men's and Women's gymnastics (with the limited knowledge that she has). Kay has her own little Ted Talk about germs on gym equipment, and she continues to struggle with the names of some of these sentient object characters. Also, Elle became Kay's idol in sharing a story about her own past, and honestly- goals.

Overall, Elle gave this ⭐⭐⭐.5 stars, and Kay gave it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ . What a nice change of pace!

Kay's fancast this week has a gymnastic legend, and a man that could rival the size of a pommel horse.

As promised, this week we read Double Stuffed by Derek Masters.

WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙🐙

Elle and Kay are slowly coming back to life after never wanting to hear the word basilisk ever again, and finally got to read about a threesome that we feel we were owed with the last book.

Kay was momentarily (actually, it was several hours) left without power after speaking it into the universe during a thunderstorm while recording, but we got right back into it. We discuss whether or not a women writing about a FMC with her virginity would have written this in an entirely different way, but lets be serious, we could tell the writer was a man. We also find ourselves questioning... do men really think like this?

Overall, Kay gave this ⭐ due to the overwhelming virgin story arc, and Elle gave it a ⭐ because the two men were a little creepy and annoying.

This week, Elle and Kay discuss the ritual that Tem needs to go through in order to be accepted by her basilisk boyfriend's father. We continue to be disappointed that this love triangle never turns into a why choose, and we question if we've reached our limit of how much smut is too much smut in one book.

Overall, this gets ⭐⭐, from both Elle and Kay, due in large part to giving credit to the author where it's due.... over 500 pages is a huge feat to write!

As for Kay's fan cast... she googled "boring actresses" to find the casting for Tem. That should say enough for now....

Kay and Elle discuss delayed gratification when it comes to birthday gifts, how quickly your 30's turn into aches and pains in the morning especially after a bottle of wine, and that men need to realize that girls dress for compliments from other girls- not for the male gaze.

In this week's book, Lena's luck certainly turned around on her birthday, and we're still not totally sure why Kyle is so "good in these situations." Also- just a reminder that all of this was a gift from her sister.

Kay related quite a bit to one of the main characters, as someone who tends to get herself into uncomfortable conversations with crying strangers. Though both preferred the storyline of Man Candy to the Hallowpeens, Elle had a LOT to say regarding sugar in certain areas. To finish things off, Kay creates a list of all of Holly's puns... that woman really should create her own thesaurus!

WITS Smut Scale Rating: 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙 There truly is no plot- even the author said so!

This book took us on a "WILDE" ride. Sentient sunscreen bottles that come alive but don't get to be full sized men? As always, we question many of the logistics.

Both Kay and Elle each have their own soap box moments as they discuss sun safety, sunscreen safety, and what body parts should not be tanned.

Kay gave this ⭐⭐⭐ while Elle gave it ⭐⭐.5. They agreed that the stars for this one came more from the humor and creativity than the smut itself. If we could tweak the plot just a tiny bit for the fan cast, and make them actually turn into life sized men though... that'd be a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ easily.

For another very quick book, we had a LOT to say. This is a MM sentient object story, and we were delighted to see that the author has ties to some of our favorites, Vera Valentine and Sylvia Morrow. We were disappointed, however that unlike those other two authors, this sentient hockey stick never turns into an actual person.

As always, our need to dig deeper leads to lots of giggles and some modeling for logistical purposes.

Overall, Kay rated this ⭐⭐ while Elle rated it a little higher at ⭐⭐ and 1/2, and Kay's fan cast has quite the millennial throwback.

Smut Scale Rating: 🐙🐙

This episode has lots of giggles with healthy doses of "OHHHH YEAHHHH" sprinkled in. We're still not sure if we're totally on board for the step-sibling trope, but we're definitely both here for the forced proximity. Elle isn't sure if she truly needed the origin story for the sentient pitcher of Kool-Aid because honestly we were left with more questions than answers in that regard.

We got our first ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from Kay, and Elle rated this ⭐⭐⭐⭐. We were definitely drinking the Kool-Aid.

Today, we are discussing a staple in the smut world, Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

Smut Scale Rating: 🐙🐙🐙🐙 (You're going to want to read the trigger warnings on this one!)

In this episode, Kay and Elle discuss how the first 30 pages of this novel could have been the start to a much darker, very different book, and could have been replaced with 30 pages giving us some more information at the END of the novel instead. We decided that the MMC Vektal was literally made for her pleasure, and the FMC Georgie is a badass. We both agree that the surprise pregnancy trope is the WORST.

Overall, Kay wasn't a big fan and only gave this ⭐ while our resident romantasy girlie Elle gave this ⭐⭐⭐ (it was almost 4!).

Kay and Elle have a lot to say for a story that was only 14 pages. We get far too in depth about the hiring practices at this T-Rex Law firm, what the world may actually look like had dinosaurs gone through evolution and were still with us today, and whether or not the story gave us "the tingle" if you will.

Also, Kay brings it waaay back to the 90's for today's Fan Cast.

Overall, Kay gives this ⭐⭐ and Elle surprised us with a ⭐⭐⭐ rating.

This week, Elle and Kay read yet another spinoff of a headless horseman tale in Jack's Head by Siggy Shade. Quite honestly, we're not sure how we went 30 books before a Siggy Shade story!!

We start off this book with green flags from the FMC's fiance... roleplaying from a smutty book? Yes, please! Unfortunately we get immediately smacked in the face with several red flags. As usual, we get a mid-episode Googling, and Kay actually likes the historical significance that comes along with this story. We discuss a new-to-us kink that hasn't popped up in one of the books we've read, and as always... we learn a little more about ourselves in the process.

Overall, both Elle and Kay gave this one 3.5 ⭐s, and had a lengthy conversation regarding Hollywood beauty standards.

Elle loves a good supernatural town, but still isn't a fan of the food as characters trope, and Kay is reminded that she loves a why choose storyline. We go into some serious depth about donuts, fated mates, and where NOT to put food.

Overall, Kay rated this 1.5 ⭐, and Elle's love of supes gave this a 2 ⭐⭐ and she is potentially interested in reading more of the stories from the world that Mia Harlan has built.

As always, Kay knocks it out of the park (bakery?) with her fan cast.

Elle may be on to something with her thoughts on the prologue, though...

Truly, St. Patrick's Day seems to be a missed opportunity for the Smut community, as there were not a lot of options to choose from.

Kay and Elle found themselves much more amusing than the book itself, but still had a LOT to say. Both agreed that there could have been a lot more lore brought into the story. Again, theres a female main character in danger that seems to have no common sense and a terrible inner monologue. Don't worry though, Kay nails it again with her Dream Casting.

Overall, both Kay and Elle rated this a ⭐

In part two of our deep dive into Deep End, Kay and Elle break down Scarlett and Lukas' relationship, discuss some aspects of the relationship that we deem problematic (and honestly, its not the parts you'd think), and Kay still hates Pen, but we find out that her hatred is justified.

Overall, Elle gave this ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and Kay gives this ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and 1/4 but we are still obsessed with Ali Hazelwood, STEM Romance Queen.

We start off this week with a little update from our time at the Smut Lovers Conference in Orlando! This week's book has us discussing unsafe first date behavior (hello, meeting in secret at midnight is never going to be a good idea) which ultimately gives us a morally grey meet cute. We were pleased to discover that we've got a monster peen on an otherwise mostly human (with a pumpkin head) MMC, and Kay is on board with the full sensory experience. Also, yet another standard 6'4" romantic lead, which Kay is here for. For a halloween themed monster romance, we were pleasantly surprised with the cozy feel and HEA.

Overall, Kay gave this ⭐⭐⭐ and it took 30 books, but Elle had her first ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!

This week's kicks off a month of Halloween themed books! Elle takes issue with the fact that the FMC doesn't believe in the entity of Death when she herself is a witch. Both Kay and Elle agree that the fact that he removes the pumpkin head is way creepier than if it had stayed on throughout, and discuss how important kissing is for intimacy, even with the undead. Kay questions if the relationship power dynamics in this story would have made more sense if it wasn't so rushed. For once, though they would have both hated it, the ladies agree that the next logical step in this book would have been an accidental pregnancy trope (spoiler, its not.)

Overall, Kay gave this ⭐⭐ while Elle only gave this a ⭐.

This week was a fun one, as Elle really felt the nostalgia from the Gargoyles show during her youth. We discovered that even 999 year old Gargoyles struggle with conversations on the dating apps, and think that a monster dating app sounds like a ton of fun. As always, we're excited when a monster is created with fun monster additives (vibrating tail anyone?)

We also have a very exciting addition to the end of this episode, with a brief interview with Settle Myer herself from the Smut Lovers Conference this past weekend in Orlando. She was SO sweet and we were so glad she agreed to answer some of our burning questions with us for a bit.

Overall, Kay and Elle both rated this ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and Kay took some creative liberties with her casting of Evangeline.

This book is a lot darker than some of our other books, which was just fine with Kay, who loves a dark romance. Elle and Kay were both surprised that we somehow managed to do the first book in a series, and are both interested in reading the books that follow. As with any darker romance, we encourage listeners to take care of themselves and check the trigger warnings before reading or listening. We do find ourselves wishing that we had a male perspective this week, as the only female character is a coffee shop waitress that has no real role in the story.

Overall, Elle gave this ⭐⭐⭐ and Kay rated it a little higher with ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2

This week, join Elle and Kay as they discuss Seduced by the Pumpkin Spice Latte by Evelyn Cloves.

WITS Smut Scale: 🐙🐙 (this was a compromise- the spice is low, but there's 3 people so listen at your own discretion)

This book sends us back to 2015 in so many ways, and honestly times were simpler back then. Elle is shocked to find out that Kay still uses pinterest, but not at all shocked at her love of the PSL- just don't call her a pumpkin spiced sexual. We're not sure what it says about us, but we were both disappointed that the coffee doesn't turn into a man (blame the margarita book from a few episodes back. Elle is truly horrified, as always, at the lack of outrage at a beverage being spilled all over someone. Too sticky. And hot. As always, it wouldn't be an episode if we didn't research something mid-conversation.

Overall, this one was too weird for Kay, and Elle admits that this book made Corn Daddy seem less weird. Both rate this ⭐ and Kay got a little sassy with her casting choices.

This week, we read Forked by Ruth Cardello

WITS Smut Scale: 🐙 (1.5?) extra .5 for the fork maybe?

This week, Kay and Elle discuss meeting your neighbors in apartment living, and how sometimes putting yourself out there can end up with embarrassing mistakes and petty theft. Elle definitely has a favorite fork, but definitely not the same kind of fork as our main character. Kay is still mad about the financial burden that the main character took on, only to be essentially ghosted, and would have rage-returned those clothes immediately. As always, we have at least one thing that we need to Google mid-conversation.

Overall, this was a ⭐⭐ from Kay, not a huge historical romance fan, but Elle enjoyed it a bit more with ⭐⭐.5

The reviews get us going this week, with a mention of AI narration for the audiobook, and boy do we have thoughts. The book being written by two different authors also gives an interesting perspective, but we can tell that the MMC is written by a man. The introduction to the new-to-us kink of Freeuse could have had some more information about the lifestyle, but we leaned toward having issue with the fact that the FMC had until just recently been a virgin.

Overall, this was another week of ⭐ ratings from both Elle and Kay, who had higher hopes for this storyline.
