Transformers: Hearts of Steel16 août 202602:36:05

So what if instead of The Transformers snoozing right through to the 1980s they'd woken up around a hundred years earlier? What if they all went a little Steam Punk? What if they meet John Henry and Mark Twain? What if it was all steam trains and biplanes? What if over the course of a four issue mini series the plot quite literally careers off the rails and into a ravine? We answer all these questions and more in the latest episode of We've Got Back Issues where Galactosh, Sleeves and special guest Michael Quintesson discuss The Transformers: Hearts of Steel from IDW Publishing.

The Transformers #7-8 (Part 2 of 2)23 nov. 202501:36:44

Transformers... THE Transformers the original Marvel run that started it all (sure there was a cartoon too but that was rubbish... kids stuff) is a bit of an obsession for Sleeves. He's collected all the Marvel UK comics, he's started a substack on the subject. So we thought we'd ingluge the little scamp and discuss a few issues of the comic, just a small number... four... keep it light. What followed was over 3 hours of robot related rambling too long to be contained in just one episode. So we split it in two... and this is the second part.

Reforming the same band of contributors that brought you an overstuffed look at Skybound's Transformers relaunch last year, Sleeves, Galactosh and special guests Virtual Dave and Michael Quintesson pore over the pages of The Transformers issues 5 to 8 reprinted in issues 22 to 28 of Marvel UK's fortnightly larger format comic. We join the story as Shockwave takes command of the Decepticons and begins his plans to conquer the earth one Blackrock facility at a time, learn why Optimus Prime's head is no longer on his body, why Buster Witwicky is having a lot of headaches, how the Dinobot came to be on earth, what the rite of oneness is and why Ratchet must learn to become a warrior!

Deathmate18 août 202402:05:13

This month Sleeves and Galactosh travel back to the mid-ninties and examine what was almost the end of comics! Two relatively new upstarts fresh on the comic publishers block, Valiant Comics and Image Comics, collide in the crossover you never knew you didn't want! Now known in infamy as Deathmate. Messy incoherent plot? check. Hordes of derivative characters you've never heard of? Yup. Overhyped beyond what they could possibly deliver? Uh-huh. Poorly planned and crippled by delays? You betcha! An aftermath that sent shock waves through the industry and likely caused the closure of comic book stores? Sadly yes. An unmitigated disaster? Well.. that is what one of the creators called it.

Join your courageous hosts as they try their best to enjoy this endeavour. Will they work out who the characters are and what's going on? What is it with all the adverts? Does Rob Liefield like snorkeling too much? Will they work out the punny title before the end of the podcast? Listen and learn the answers to all these questions and more as they revisit the car crash of a crossover that was Deathmate.

Wanna see the beginnings of The Booster Gold and Blue Beetle bromance? Wanna learn what happens when you put Batman and Guy Gardener on the same team? Wanna make something of it?

Young Death "Boyhood of a Superfiend"19 mai 202401:26:42

This time on We've Got Back Issues, your heroes are in trouble. They're crime is life. They're sentence?... Is death.

That's right, in this issue your hosts Sleeves and Galactosh have read the origin story of Judge Dredd's most famous villain, Judge Death, in Young Death "Boyhood of a Superfiend" straight from the pages of Judge Dredd Megazine. (And you thought we'd stick to just the American funny books). Listen now to find out what your hosts thought of Death's early days, dentistry, the reveal of the protagonists horrifying real name and just how much this blatantly rips off is a loving homage to interview with the vampire.

Drokk! Just give it a listen for gruds sake!

The Death of Superman "Doomsday"18 mars 202401:43:34

What's that in the sky?...Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO! It's the 3rd instalment of your trusty comic book podcast We’ve Got Back Issues! In this episode your heroes ponder the highs, the lows, the hype and the marketing strategy that was the Death of Superman. Come with us to a time before the advent of the comics explosion, where event stories were just that and not an annual procession, to a time when Superman was still relevant? As we look at an event comic that arguably directly lead, or at least contributed to, the great comics crash of the 90s.

Listen as we discuss DCs Hulk rip-off and the Man of Steel knocking seven bells out of one another across the pages of 7 issues of 5 DC books until they both collapse in a bloody heap. Can a comic consist entirely of splash pages? Can the man of tomorrow survive? The title kind of gives it away! But that won't stop Sleeves and Galactosh digesting and dissecting it for your listening pleasure in what people are already calling the greatest comic book club discussion podcast?

Fantastic Four Vol 1 #6-10 (part 2 of 2)19 févr. 202401:17:38

Welcome back to The World's Greatest Comic Magazine! Even if Stan Lee does say so himself... as early as issue 4! In episode one your hosts Sleeves and Galactosh tried to revisit the first ten issues of what would become the first family of superhero comics… namely the Fantastic Four! Having bitten off a little more than they could chew for one episode they cleverly split it in two, and here's that second part! Join them as they marvel at the first Doctor Doom and Sub Mariner team up, are baffled by Kurrgo Master of Planet X, get to grips with the bizarre abilities of the Puppet Master, watch incredulously as the Fantastic Four pay off their debts by going to Hollywood to make a movie and fall about laughing at a ridiculously convoluted story in which Reed Richards and Doctor Doom switch bodies!

Fantastic Four Vol 1 #1-5 (part 1 or 2)21 janv. 202401:27:22

Excelsior true believers! Welcome to the dawn of the Marvel age of comics. Back before shared universes existed and Batman still was worried by overtures of his conduct with Robin. A age when every comic had an ape on their cover because those sold more! Join your hosts Sleeves and Galactosh as they revisit what was the last chance saloon of a future comics mogul which inadvertently gave birth to superhero comics as we know them today! Voyage with us back to the sixties, to a time before they had started to swing and Stan Lee was still only “the man” in his own head. Where superlatives were given full force and the alliteration of names first took flight. Welcome to Marvel's first family as we dive into where it all started and discover how the Fantastic Four were born... It's Clobberin' time!!
