Wests Tigers Get Job Done Against Roosters06 Jul 202501:08:34
Winners are grinners, and Wests Tigers fans are grinning today after a gritty win against the Roosters.

This post-victory edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast celebrates that 30-28 win at Allianz Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Some of the key points for discussion include:
  • The performance of all three Fainu brothers
  • The crisp service from Tristan Hope
  • Sunia Turuva impressed as a stand-in fullback
  • Adam Doueihi's work steering the side around
With our three major strike weapons (Api, Luai, and Bula) all set to return to the team in the coming weeks, have we finally turned a corner?

The guys and girls over on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum also come through with some great 'One Word' contributions post-match.

These contributions range from Relief to Poetry, and even Grand Final!

There were a couple of areas of our play that weren't quite as polished yesterday, and we discussed these.

We also talk centres, and more specifically, who should get the spot that looks set to open up through the injury to Starford Toa? Does Naden come back in? Or does Taylan May get a shot?

On the recruitment front, the boys state their position on signing a veteran wrecking ball prop from Canberra.

We also take a look at 'Richo's meter' - are the Tigers slowly moving up to average??Oh, and Steve has a rant about the price of food at the football!

It's great to be able to bring you all a happier edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. Let's all hope there are many more post-win editions before the end of the season.

And don't forget to join the discussion on everything Wests Tigers at the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum.

Battered Wests Tigers Prep For Roosters Showdown02 Jul 202501:10:20
It’s the midweek edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast with Eddie, Steve, and Declan. After a promising start to the year, we weary Wests Tigers fans are trying to pick ourselves off the floor, and the podcast boys are no different. There is a preview of our sides clash with the Roosters, a game that potentially has all the hallmarks of a Wests Tigers flogging. But, with the Roosters also missing several star players, are they ripe for a loss in this one? The boys also dig into some of Shane Richardson's quotes on departed hooker, Tallyn De Silva. Was the boss right to let the talented rake walk now? Or is the club continuing to just be the NRL walkovers? Also up for discussion on this edition of the pod is the future of coach Benji Marshall, with the question being - can he withstand this firestorm? Is he too tight with certain players? Should he be joining in at training? And, is he safe beyond 2025? Plus, Eddie, Steve, and Declan rip into a few journalists and ex-players looking for clicks! And Yioti's quiz brings up a player who had big shoes to fill! Don't forget, win, lose, or draw, to leave your 'One Word' submission on the Roosters game in the live match thread on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. And feel free to join in the discussion on any Wests Tigers topic as well! Let's hope that the boys can jag a rare Roosters win this weekend, and we'll see you for the post-match edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast on Monday morning.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Late Comeback Not Enough For Wests Tigers in Townsville01 Jun 202500:59:16
Things were looking pretty bleak for Wests Tigers fans after about an hour in Townsville. However, trailing by a significant margin, the boys managed to regain some respectability with a late surge that fell just four points short. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes, Garry Watson, Steve Stretton, and Nick Hayes try to make sense of the 32-28 loss. There were some worrying signs, there were some classic Wests Tigers-only moments, and then some real flair and potency in attack. So, where exactly are we as a football team? There's also a look at some of the promising performances from individual members of the team, including Starford To'a, Tony Sukkar, and Charlie Staines. But what about the new five-eight?! Heath Mason grabbed that number 6 jersey and did a lot right, both with the ball and in defence. So, what do with do with Latu Fainu this week? The boys try and answer that question on this edition of the pod. There are, of course, lots of 'One Word' submissions from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum, including one that brings up a left-field coaching suggestion. 'Peter A' from the forum reckons we should make a coaching change and bring in the former Eels coach, Brad Arthur. Another discussion on the podcast circles the refereeing, and we ask the question - does Benji need to burn $10,000 to get some respect from the officials? Or, as some members of the pod believe, are we ultimately responsible for the way we get treated by the referee? There's also some good news from the lower grades with wins recorded over the weekend. The question is, is there anyone we can call on to replace the HIA-affected Alex Twal?   Yes, it's another post-loss edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, but we hope you enjoy our take on things, and don't forget you can join the conversation now on the forum.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 031917 Apr 202401:04:28
The Wests Tigers are back in action again in just another two days and the Wests Tigers Podcast midweek pod takes a good look at the next game. That game is against the Panthers in Bathurst. It will be a big challenge, but the Wests Tigers have named a very strong team to take on the three-time Premiers. That team includes the returning Lachlan Galvin, Samuela Fainu, and Latu Fainu. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Eddie Otto is in the host's seat and is joined by Garry Watson, Declan McCutcheon, and Steve Stretton. Aside from the Panthers game, the boys also play a comprehensive round of Buy, Sell, or Hold. For that segment, Eddie has come up with some super topics including:
  • Why do we seem to struggle as favourites?
  • Why do we seem to struggle on big occasions?
  • Is there a chance Stefano Utoikamanu will depart the club?
Also addressed on this edition is some chatter that a couple of young Wests Tigers cubs are looking at an exit. And there's plenty of fun with Yioti's Quiz! See you on the bus for the trip to Bathurst, and we'll have the next edition of the pod for you on Monday morning.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 031814 Apr 202401:08:36
A big afternoon at Campbelltown Stadium has ended in disappointment with the Wests Tigers putting in a poor showing against the Dragons. In front of a big home crowd, the Tigers started poorly and struggled to put any real sustained pressure on their joint venture rivals, eventually succumbing 24-12. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes, Eddie Otto, Garry Watson, and Declan McCutcheon go back over the game and try to determine where things went wrong. Some of the main points looked at include:
  • The slow start by the Tigers
  • The performance of Jayden Sullivan
  • Is Api Korisau 100% fit?
  • Why did we pick a hooker on the bench (Simpkin) and not use him?
  • How we compare physically to other NRL teams
  • What this result/performance means for the Tiger's season
There's also a look at some quite reassuring things said by the man who was at the forefront of the review into the Wests Tigers, Gary Barnier. Gary was a special guest at the Ambush event held before the NRL game yesterday, he gave us all an update on how supportive the Holman Barnes Group is about following through on the review's recommendations. We also take a look at the Campbelltown game day experience and ask why the lines to to get into the ground so long? It's a pity it has to be a post-defeat edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast to start the week, never the less we still hope you enjoy it and feel free to have your say on our opinions on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 031507 Apr 202401:06:57
The Wests Tigers' performance against the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium was the very definition of mixed. A poor start/first half, but then a spirited and much more determined second-half showing leaves us wondering just where this team is at. That's one of the things we try and determine on this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast.  Joel Helmes, Garry Watson, and Eddie Otto go over the game looking at the things that made us happy and the things (and players) that frustrated us. We look at the impact of missing Lachlan Galvin and the debut of young Latu Fainu. And just how much did the short turnaround affect the performance of the Wests Tigers, especially (seemingly) in that first half. Garry also has some details of a bonus edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast - an interview with the Mayor of the Inner West Council, Darcy Byrne. Garry and Darcy talk Leichhardt Oval and what the future might hold for the famous ground in coming years. There are details of this Sunday's Ambush event at the Beer Shed in Leumeah (we hope to see you there) and a shoutout for anyone still looking to join us on our coach trip to Bathurst the following week. It wasn't a post-victory edition of the pod this time, but we still hope you enjoy our analysis of the Wests Tigers latest match.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 031301 Apr 202401:04:52
How good was that!? The Wests Tigers scored a memorable win over the Parramatta Eels at CommBank Stadium yesterday afternoon. The big Easter Monday clash was a real test for our boys, and despite most of the so-called experts writing us off, they responded in the best way possible. On this latest post-victory edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Eddie Otto, Declan McCutcheon, and Garry Watson for a thorough breakdown of the clash with the Eels. Some of the main talking points include:
  • The performance of Lachlan Galvin
  • The Galvin hip-drop tackle
  • Aidan Sezer and the difference he's made to the side
  • The super effort of the Wests Tigers forwards
  • And the big contribution of Justin Olam
Despite the victory, the boys also look at some areas that could be improved moving forward, and which players might come under some pressure after a big NSW Cup victory as well yesterday. And there's an assessment of where the Wests Tigers might stand compared to some of the other teams in the NRL. It's everything you need in a post-victory podcast, we hope you enjoy it!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's been another busy week in Tiger Town and for us here at the Wests Tigers Podcast. With Steve and Garry catching up for a chat with one of the two men who undertook the review into the Wests Tigers, Gary Barnier, and the Tigers not playing until Monday, the mid-week show is out today. On this edition, Eddie Otto and Declan McCutcheon preview the big Easter Monday clash between the Tigers and the Parramatta Eels at CommBank Stadium. Some of the key discussion points on this pod include:
  • What do the boys need to do to build on the performance against the Sharks?
  • Was that big win another false dawn?
  • What key areas do we need to execute to beat the Eels?
There's also a look at the future of Interim CEO Shane Richardson and what his next moves might be. In particular, are the rumours true that a deal has already been made to move Wests Tigers away from our traditional home grounds? And there's a real Parramatta flavor in Yioti's Quiz. Let's hope for another great Wests Tigers performance on Monday, and then we'll be back either way with a post-game edition on Tuesday morning for you.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wow! What a fantastic performance from the Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday night! On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is in the host's chair and is joined by Steve Stretton, Declan McCutcheon, and Garry Watson. We discuss the many strong individual displays in a performance that gives us all some hope that this team is just about to finally turn the corner (or maybe it already has?). What does the win mean for the team line-up moving forward? And what do we make of Benji Marshall's approach to coaching so far? And how do we feel we will go against an impressive Eels side in the big Easter Monday clash this long weekend? There's also coverage of the Shane Richardson interview on the James Graham Podcast, The Bye Round. Our interim CEO has had some interesting things to say in regards to the Wests Tigers home ground strategy and the other important decisions and goals put forward in a new Strategic Plan set to be released this week. Wests Tigers Podcast 030425 Feb 202401:06:27
Bugger! Wests Tigers reverted to the team that scooped up consecutive wooden spoons in Saturday night's trial against the Dragons. Despite a mostly much more positive showing the week before in New Zealand, Wests Tigers took to the field in Mudgee with a lack of intensity and got shown up by a side many predict to finish low on the ladder this year. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton and Garry Watson for a look at what went wrong. Thank you to our Wests Tigers Podcast Forum members for their many 'One Word' summations of that performance against St.George-Illawarra. We share those contributions on the pod. There's a discussion around the impressive debut of 18-year-old rookie, Lachlan Galvin, and we ask the question - has he done enough to grab an NRL debut in round two? We take a look at the centre and winger issues that seem to be affecting several aspects of how the side plays. Ask, has Alex Seyfarth beaten out Fonua Pole for the lock position? And who do we need to pick in the back row to get some more thrust? Also under the microscope is the revelation by interim CEO Shane Richardson that the claimed Wests Tigers membership numbers are significantly lower in reality. And Yioti's Quiz is back with some curly questions designed to test Steve and Garry's memory and knowledge of our Wests Tigers! Not a win, unfortunately, and now another break before we are back in action on the field, none the less we thank you for your ongoing support of the Wests Tigers Podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 030321 Feb 202401:01:52
The Wests Tigers are back in action this Saturday with the second of our two pre-season games. After accounting for the Warriors over in New Zealand last Sunday, Wests Tigers and St.George Illawarra take their Pre-Season Challenge game to the beautiful NSW country town Mudgee. On this mid-week edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Eddie Otto is joined by Garry Watson and Steve Stretton. The guys wrap up that Warriors game, with Steve and Eddie bringing us their thoughts on the performance. Then the attention shifts to one of our favourite podcast features, a round of Buy, Sell, or Hold. There's also a preview of the Dragons match, including a look at the naming of new recruit Justin Olam in our side. Eddie, Steve, and Garry discuss what we want to see in this game and which players need to stand out to be a chance of selection in Round Two. Playing in Round Two (against the Raiders) means we will have to sit and watch every other team run around in Round One of the 2024 NRL season, including the Las Vegas doubleheader. Eddie asks if this might be a mental hurdle for our side. There's a look at the naming of Api Korisau as the club's skipper for 2024. And there's some coverage of the comments made in a podcast interview with the former Wests Tigers CEO, Justin Pascoe. It's our first official mid-week edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, we hope you enjoy it.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 030218 Feb 202400:53:26
Benji Marshall has kicked off his official coaching career with a win over the Warriors in the Preseason Challenge. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Garry Watson and Declan McCutcheon to put the 18-16 trial game victory under the microscope. Has the game answered any questions regarding our Round 2 line-up? We take a look at some of the key positions that seemingly are still to be decided, including the halves, bench hooker/utility, back-row/lock, and wingers. Naturally, there's a good look at the performance of two of our new recruits - Jayden Sullivan and Aidan Sezer.   With Sullivan and Sezer mostly doing exactly what was expected of them, where does that leave Latu Fainu and Lachlan Galvin? Other aspects of the trial game that come up for discussion include the performance of some of our still raw, but impressive young players such as Navren Willett and Tony Sukkar. And we take a look at position number 30 in the Wests Tigers 2024 roster, asking the question - what position should we target for further strengthening based on that trial performance? It's great to be back talking football, especially a Wests Tigers victory!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hooray! The Wests Tigers (and NRL) off-season is officially over and football is about to recommence. And the Wests Tigers are in action this weekend...life is good (well, hopefully, better than it has been in recent years). On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Declan McCutcheon and Garry Watson to preview the trial match (or pre-season challenge) against the Warriors in New Zealand on Sunday. Wests Tigers coach, Benji Marshall, has named a reasonably strong line-up for the first trial, including starting spots for star players such as Jahream Bula, Api Korisau, and David Klemmer. Youngsters like Lachlan Galvin, Tallyn Da Silva, and Navren Willett will also feature, along with new recruits such as Aidan Sezer, Jayden Sullivan, and Samuela Fainu. The boys take a deep dive into the line-up named by Benji, what was a surprise, and what this team might indicate in regards to our round two NRL side. There's a reminder too about getting your tickets on board the coach that is taking Wests Tigers fans to Bathurst. And Yioti pushes the brain power of Declan and Garry in his first Wests Tigers quiz of the new year. It's great to see the team back in action, and fantastic to be here covering all the ups and downs for you on the Wests Tigers Podcast!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We made it to the big 300! What a ride getting to this major milestone it has been for the Wests Tigers Podcast. On this special edition of the pod, Eddie Otto is in the driver's seat, joined by Joel Helmes, Steve Stretton, Declan McCutcheon, and Garry Watson. The boys talk about the 300 podcast milestone, the highlights of being a Wests Tigers fan since the pod came into being, and our highlights from the podcast. There are also some brave and bold predictions for what might happen for our team and club before the 400th, 500th, and 600th episodes. Steve also shares information on the coming fan events being held by The Ambush, and there are details on an exciting new concept being trialed this year - coach transport to Wests Tigers matches. Joel has all the details on that new concept, including how you can get your tickets to join us for a road trip to Bathurst. Then Eddie, Steve, Garry, and Declan take a deep dive into the Wests Tigers forward stocks for 2024.  This a follow-up to the last edition of the pod where the backs were put under the microscope, this time the engine room gets a thorough examination. The boys take a look at the areas of strength, and the areas that have us worried when it comes to impact and depth up front. And don't miss a condensed version of Yioti's Quiz! Thank you for your support through the years and for helping us get to 300 editions!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We're nearly there! Both Wests Tigers Podcast episode 300 and the kick-off to the Wests Tigers season are imminent. But, on the edge of these two milestones, we have a lot to discuss on this edition of the pod, including...and this seems a bit of a shock and certainly a first on this pod, Greg Inglis! Out of the blue, Inglis is seen at Wests Tigers headquarters in Wests Tigers colours. We now know that the former South Sydney star has taken up a mentoring and support role with our young fullback, Jahream Bula. Eddie Otto, Steve Stretton, and Garry Watson discuss the influence that Inglis might have on Bula and the club in general. The boys also take a look at the recent interview Benji Marshall did with journalist Brent Read.  There were some interesting comments in there by the head coach, including the prospect of rookie Lachlan Galvin being a genuine chance of selection. This was followed up by another article by The Mole that said Galvin, who was dubbed "the next Nathan Cleary" in the article, was looking likely to take the number 6 Wests Tigers jersey in Round Two. There was speculation in that story that Jayden (Bud) Sullivan and Latu Fainu were in doubt due to injuries. Garry has an update on all of that. New recruit Justin Olam also comes up on the agenda with concerns the former Storm centre might have some injury issues himself. And then the boys put the Wests Tigers 2024 backs and halves under the microscope to see how we're shaping up and what our all-important depth looks like. Don't forget to join us on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum to discuss everything Wests Tigers and stay tuned for details on how you can join us on a road trip to watch the Wests Tigers in action in Bathurst!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 029824 Jan 202400:32:21
The biggest off-season in Wests Tigers history has continued with the departure of the club's longest-serving player. David Nofoaluma played 192 games for the club over a decade, but earlier this week he accepted a sizeable payout to walk away from the final two years of his contract. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast we take a look at the Wests Tigers career of the man called 'Nofa' and discuss why things went south for him. The move has also opened up a couple of interesting situations that we also discuss. Firstly, who are now most likely our two starting wingers in 2024? Will it be Staines and Tupou? Or, are there other options Benji Marshall is considering? Secondly, what do we do with the vacant roster spot? Is it best to hold on to the spot and see where we might need strengthening mid-season? Or, do we go to market now? Another topic for discussion is just the enormous amount of change that has occurred in recent months with a long list of departures including Pascoe, Hagipantelis, Fulton, Sheens, Brooks, and now Nofoaluma. With the first trial match just a few weeks away, we hope you enjoy this edition of the pod.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to the Wests Tigers Justin Olam! The signing of the PNG International centre takes centre stage on this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. Joel Helmes is joined by Eddie Otto and Declan McCutcheon for a look at what Olam might bring to the team in 2024 and beyond. His signing came at the expense of Shawn Blore, a guy with plenty of talent but a chequered run at the club with injuries. So, who got the better deal? Will we regret letting Blore go? who might replace Blore in the forwards? And how will Olam go with our other left-edge players such as Isaiah Papali’i and Latu Fainu? We try to answer those questions on the pod. Also, who might feature in the centres alongside Olam when the Tigers take the field in Round 2 of the 2024 NRL season? We take a look at some of the recent comments on the Blore and Olam swap on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. And Eddie breaks out some tough questions on the latest round of Buy, Sell or Hold. The trials are coming soon! In the meantime, please enjoy this latest edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast with Declan, Eddie and Joel.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 029518 Dec 202301:10:11
Santa Claus is coming to town and Wests Tigers fans are hoping the big man has a very special present for us all this year! We've all been good little boys and girls, we've been (mostly) patient while the Wests Tigers have been on struggle street in recent years. But are good things about to come our way? On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Eddie Otto has come out of seclusion to join Declan McCutcheon, Garry Watson, and Steve Stretton. On the agenda is the potentially impending signing of Panthers superstar half, Jarome Luai. The boys look at where that contract situation is at the moment, and when we might be able to officially call him a Tiger! If he does come, who will he partner in the Wests Tigers halves in 2025? There's also a look back at the big series of events that took place last week, including the performance of new interim CEO, Shane Richardson. And an update on the big surge in Wests Tigers memberships since the changes were confirmed. We hope you enjoy this bumper edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, and, if we don't catch you again this year, we all wish you a safe and merry Christmas.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 029412 Dec 202300:44:25
Who said people-power was dead? The Wests Tigers owners have acted on the recommendations of the intensive review into the Wests Tigers. And those actions are comprehensive. We asked for that review, us on the pod, but also the rest of you guys who supported our petition and that means we did it together! The changes announced today include the removal of the Wests Tigers board, including Chairman, Lee Hagipantelis. CEO Justin Pascoe has also decided to hand in his resignation. In their place are interim CEO Shane Richardson, and interim Chair, Barry O'Farrell (who has held the position before). On this very special edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton, Declan McCutcheon, Kelly Hollis, and Garry Watson to put these major changes under the spotlight. Some of the questions we try to answer include:
  • What legacy are Lee and Justin leaving?
  • Are we surprised the Holman Barnes Group backed the review findings so strongly?
  • What should be the main priorities of the new leaders coming in?
  • What are some good skills we should be looking for among our new board members?
It's been a big day, an historic one for our club and we hope you enjoy our analysis of everything that has taken place.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 029307 Dec 202301:13:51
Eddie’s back! After a self-imposed break away from the pod, and the Wests Tigers in general, Mr Otto is back in the host’s chair. On this off-season edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Eddie, along with Declan McCutcheon and Garry Watson, cover everything that’s been happening around our great club. That includes more talk around the review into the Wests Tigers. The guys ask whether the delay in releasing the key review findings, or there appearing to be no major moves occurring at the moment, is a good or bad thing? Should we be starting to grow concerned that significant reforms to the club’s administration and governance are/were a bridge too far? Eddie, Garry and Declan have their say on all that. Also, should the owners of the club be concerned about our major sponsor leaving if the review leads to the removal of Chairman Lee Hagipantelis? The other big off-season talking point is the attempt to steal Jerome Luai off of the high-flying Panthers. There’s a discussion around how that may pan out over the coming days. The boys give their thoughts on what Luai would bring for the Tigers, where he might play, and whether Penrith or the Bulldogs are a greater threat to get his signature. Addin Fonua Blake’s future also comes up for discussion, including whether we should look at trading one of our current players for the big Warriors prop. Adam Doueihi has been in the news over an off-field social media issue, but on the field there are hopes he will play a part in the 2024 Wests Tigers team. The guys give their thoughts on how he might be used. We hope you enjoy the latest edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 029215 Nov 202301:01:58
We're back! After a little break to refuel and recharge, the Wests Tigers Podcast is up and running again just as the Wests Tigers hit the training paddock for season 2024. On this edition, Joel Helmes is joined by Declan McCutcheon, Steve Stretton, and Garry Watson, with one of the main talking points being an update on the Holman Barnes Group's review into the Wests Tigers. We also take a look at Benji Marshall the coach. What will his style be? Will he have the cattle to play the way Benji wants us to next year? Further to all that, what contribution are we expecting from the very experienced John Morris? And, should Wests Tigers be trying to lure Wayne Bennett to the club? Bennett will finish up with the Dolpins at the end of the 2024 season and there's been some talk he could be our future Head of Football. There's also some discussion around the future of Charlie Staines, and we fantasise about adding Addin Fonua-Blake and Jerome Luai into the Wests Tigers team. As part of that Luai talk, we tackle the question of whether the Wests Tigers should be giving new recruits Bud Sullivan and Latu Fainu a chance to prove themselves before making a play for the three-time Premiership winner. And we also take a good look at the 2024 NRL draw for the Wests Tigers. It's good to be back, thank you for your patience!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 029109 Oct 202301:01:04
Roll up! Roll up! It's the greatest show in town! Well, the Wests Tigers certainly remains a circus with our Chairman being one of the main ring leaders. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, we address the unprofessional and unwarranted criticism of our pod and petition in the News Ltd. press. A story that seemed to be propagated by Wests Tigers Chairman Lee Hagipantelis, we've been singled out as being divisive and setting back the prospects of Benji Marshall and the team in season 2024. Why? Because we asked our fellow Wests Tigers fans to support our calls for a review of the administration and governance of the Wests Tigers. The majority shareholders of the club, the Holman Barnes Group, agreed that answers needed to be found and launched that review. Hit play or download to hear our response to the latest developments. There are plenty of other topics to discuss as well. We take a look at the re-signing of Starford To'a until the end of 2026. Was it a good move to give Starford another two years on his contract? What was the thinking behind this decision? Speaking of centres, reports suggest Bradman Best might be on the Tiger's radar with the club allegedly ready to hand over $800,000 a season for the Knights and Blues centre. A good move, we put that under the microscope. Declan and Garry weigh in on the loss of young half Alex Conti to the Bulldogs. Is it another disaster in the making?  And the proposal to move the Wests Tigers to a brand new 20,000-seat stadium is also on the agenda of the latest edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 029002 Oct 202300:46:26
The Wests Tigers review is now underway with two leading experts putting the club under the microscope. However, there appears to still be some confusion about both the Wests Tigers governance and management structure, as well as what the review is actually looking at. So, we thought we might try to clear things up on this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. Fresh from a long face-to-face discussion with the man leading the review, Gary Barnier, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton, Kelly Hollis, and Garry Watson, all of whom took part in the meeting. Hit play or download this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast to hear our thoughts on the meeting, and why we are optimistic the review has a good chance of providing the crucial changes we all want in our club. We also hope to give a little more clarity around the board structure of both the Holman Barnes Group and Wests Tigers. And take a closer look at the process that is actually taking place through the review, along with some estimates of when the review findings might be presented to the Holman Barnes Group. It was an excellent meeting with Gary Barnier, we hope this podcast leaves you all feeling as confident in him and the process as we felt after our catch-up.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Rusty Wests Tigers Fail Again In Campbelltown19 May 202501:00:28
The Wests Tigers didn't get flogged, but it was still a disappointing night for fans on Sunday. Taking on injury-hit South Sydney, there was hope our boys could keep that important 50% win record alive heading into the bye. It wasn't to be, though, with Souths getting home 22-12. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton and Eddie Otto to pull apart the most recent Wests Tigers Performance. Some of the key issues up for discussion include:
  • Our lack of direction
  • Our lack of impact
  • Our poor execution
  • Our lack of variation in most of our plays
There's also the topic discussed that seems to be on most Wests Tigers fans' minds, and that is recruitment. Why are we watching a promising season slip away without strengthening some of the obvious weaknesses in the squad? There are a couple of positives on the agenda, though. It can be hard to find too many things to get excited about as a follower of the club right now, but we found a couple. These are, namely, the ongoing contributions being made by Sione Fainu and the impressive work of Tony Sukkar on Sunday evening.  There's also a pat on the back for Charlie Staines and Sunia Turuva, too. We run through the many 'One Word' contributions from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum, and Steve tells us about the Ambush event held before the match.  That event was a little different, it included members of the rival Souths group, The Burrow. Did everyone get along? Steve has the details. Oh, and Eddie and Steve also fire their shots in a new round of calling out some rugby league columnists over their ongoing questionable behaviours. We didn't get the win, but we hope you enjoy this latest edition of the pod. Thanks for listening.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 028925 Sep 202300:53:48
The Wests Tigers might be on hiatus, at least on the field, but the circus that is our club continues to roll on. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Declan McCutcheon is at the helm as he navigates Garry Watson and Steve Stretton through the treacherous waters of the Wests Tigers management. The boys discuss the recent confirmation of Chairman Lee Hagipantelis being given another three years in the top position. Understandably, we at the Wests Tigers Podcast are more than a little concerned that this key position has been sorted just as the club undertakes the independent review we asked for into the club's administration and governance. Garry, Steve, and Declan give us their thoughts on that controversial appointment. The guys also put the re-signing of young star Jahream Bula under the microscope too. Alex Twal, should we be allowing/encouraging him to leave the club? All the plusses and minuses of that reported move are looked at too. While the guys also examine the recent confirmation that a flock of young talent will be added to the Top 30 roster.  We hope you enjoy this big off-season version of the Wests Tigers Podcast, and don't forget you can have your say on everything Wests Tigers on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It was a memorable day for us around here yesterday - the review that we asked for, and you supported, got announced! The whole Wests Tigers organisation will now be put under the microscope after the majority owners, Holman Barnes Group, positively accepted our petition calling for a thorough review of the club. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast we take a look back at the process that got us here, and try to predict what might happen now with the review. In particular, what might the review focus on, how long it might take, and what might be some of the recommendations. It is going to be a very interesting off-season! Again, thank you to all the Wests Tigers fans that supported the petition and helped us hopefully spark some real change. Aside from the review there's a little bit of talk around that fan-favourite Alex Twal might be on the look out for a new club. We discuss the future of Alex Twal on this edition of the pod, and look at what might be the club's thinking in regards to our forwards. There's also some talk that Manly's Sean Keppie might be coming our way, and Aaron Woods (#142) could be heading home for a farewell season at the Tigers. And we look at the recent departure of assistant coach David Furner too. The Wests Tigers season has come to an end and as we all know it was the dreaded Wooden Spoon again for us. This edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast is all about putting the latest season from hell to bed. In what Eddie Otto describes as the 'Mad Monday' version of the pod, he, along with Steve and Garry dissect the good, bad, and at times very ugly bits of season 2023. Did we actually improve over 2022? Was last year's last-place finish a bigger disaster than this year? Or, was this year's bottom-of-the-table performance a more difficult pill to swallow? The boys also put under the microscope the best win of the season. There's a look at the low points of season 2023 too. There's a monster round of Buy, Sell, or Hold as well with questions ranging from the future of the Wests Tigers' established backrowers to the morale of the Wests Tigers fan base. While Eddie also brings up the immediate future of embattled Wests Tigers CEO, Justin Pascoe. And Eddie again does his best to get the NRL interested in moving the Wests Tigers to Perth (this may be a sign that Eddie needs a rest after another stressful season!). The Wests Tigers return to that old familiar feeling after another loss, this time to the Roosters. Going down 32-8 to the fringe top-eight side at Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening, the Tigers started well but faded badly. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes and Eddie Otto take a look back at the good bits and not-so-good bits of the club's most recent loss. Once again, Wests Tigers managed to start the game well, but Benji Marshall said once again when little things went against the team we started to struggle. There's a look at the performance of Triston Reilly, playing just his second game in first grade, many fans were impressed. We discuss whether he's a genuine centre option for season 2024.  Did we miss the reliability of Alex Twal in this game? The boys again discuss the problems with the Wests Tigers halves and bring some optimism when it comes to our halves options next year. Speaking of halves, should we have kept Api Korisau as halfback for the game? That's a question that comes up on this edition. And just who has been the Wests Tigers' most consistent and impressive forward this year? Can Wests Tigers Bounce Back In Campbelltown?15 May 202501:02:39
The Wests Tigers head to Campbelltown Stadium to face the Bunnies on Sunday evening. And the question on everyone's lips is, will last Sunday's Storm shellacking derail our promising season? On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Eddie Otto is in the host's chair and is joined by Steve Stretton and Declan McCutcheon. Steve was at AAMI Park in Melbourne for the game against the Storm, he gives us an eyewitness account of the murder! The boys also discuss Melbourne's differences compared to our club and team, both on and off the field. Naturally, there's a discussion on the pod about what those implications might be for such a poor performance, not just for the season, but for our team, coach, and club. Injuries are starting to hit. The boys also run through the latest injury report, with both good and bad news for Tigers' fans. The good news is that two strike players are on the verge of return, but the news may not be good for an important member of our forward pack. It's been a little bit, but 'the shredder' has returned. Eddie, Steve, and Declan predict who might be heading for a Concord exit at the end of the season. One topic of discussion that has featured heavily both in the media and on the socials in recent times is the future hooker strategy at the club. The boys predict what might happen with Api and TDS. Of course, there is a preview of the game against the Rabbitohs at Campbelltown on Sunday evening. This could also be one of the Wests Tigers' Podcast team members' final trip to the ground! Steve has a preview of the Ambush event being held before the game, and also has the questions for Yioti's Quiz. Let's hope we can regroup this weekend and come back with a post-victory edition of the podcast early next week! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Wests Tigers Podcast 028216 Aug 202300:48:25
Well, it's happened again - the Wests Tigers have parted ways with another coach, this time Premiership winner Tim Sheens. Just one year into a five-year plan that was supposed to see Sheens hold on to the head coaching role for 2023 and 2024, the veteran coach has told the Wests Tigers administration that he's had enough. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes and Steve Stretton take a look at the decision to allow Tim Sheens to depart. Some of the key issues looked at include:
  • Has the departure of Sheens been on the cards since Scott Fulton was appointed?
  • Is this another failing of the Wests Tigers board?
  • Should Justin Pascoe and Lee Hagipantelis take responsibility?
  • Is this just another example of the dysfunction that seems to plague our club?
Joel and Steve also look at the pressure this move might place on rookie coach Benji Marshall in 2024 and beyond. It was another interesting day in Wests Tigers land, we hope you enjoy our analysis of the Tim Sheens departure.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
