In our final episode of season one we welcome Kedar Gore, Director of The Corbett Foundation, a conservation charity based in India. TCF work across a vast array of landscapes, with numerous animal and human populations, leading amazing projects that really make a difference to the lives of those involved. Their core values include incorporating cohabitation into all of their work, and the reduction of human-wildlife conflict wherever possible.

Kedar is an experienced, award-winning conservationist, who is passionate about what he does. It was great to discuss his route in to his current role, as well as what listeners can do to help TCF’s work.

In Episode 6 we delve into Scotland’s west coast waters to learn all about the amazing marine life that call it home. Siobhán – Community Engagement Officer with the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust – tells us about her experiences, why it’s so important to protect our west coast community, and how HWDT involves local residents and tourists in their work. We chat orcas, whales, porpoises and more…. and discuss how listeners can even get the chance to join them on their research vessel, Silurian! A fascinating chat about human impact on the ocean, and the abundance of life in Scotland’s (sometimes chilly) sea.

In Episode 5 we chat to David Field, CEO of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which runs both Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) is a registered charity which has been working to promote awareness and conservation of rare and endangered animals for over 100 years. David talks about his route in the zoo world (from zookeeper to CEO), how life has been over the last year, and how the zoo inspires him personally. We discuss the role of a good zoo today, why engagement is so important, and how listeners at home can support the amazing work of zoological collections. Overall, it’s clear that David’s passion and dedication shines through in RZSS’s mission statement - to connect people with nature and safeguard threatened species.

Episode 4 welcomes Dr Julian Fennessy, co-founder and co-director of the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) – the leader in supporting a sustainable future for giraffe in the wild.  GCF has completed amazing work in recent decades, not only preserving giraffe populations, but researching the different subspecies and why they are important. We discuss the threats facing giraffe today, the role they play in their habitat, and what makes them so unique. Julian explains GCF’s projects on the ground and what it takes to work in his field of conservation today. A fun, engaging chat full of laughter (from the host!) and interesting facts about the long necked, evolutionary wonders that are giraffe!

In Episode 3 we explore our amazing ocean with Catherine Gemmell, Scotland Conservation Officer for the Marine Conservation Society UK. Catherine chats about her journey into conservation, what her job involves, and why we all need to play a part in protecting our seas. From discussing endangered species that are for sale in our supermarkets, to tiny fibres travelling from our washing machines into the food chain, it’s clear that individuals, businesses and governments all have a role in marine conservation. The fun of diving, our favourite marine creatures and the ocean optimism movement all add to a great episode, full of fun facts about our “Wee Blue Dot”.

(Important to note - recording via zoom caused some connection problems during this episode, but the content was too good not share! Thanks for understanding lovely listeners!)

Episode 2 welcomes Dr Cormac Price, Postdoctoral Researcher at University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We discuss the ecology of urban snakes in Durban - a city of almost 4 million people - and Cormac's research working alongside Nick Evans (KZN Amphibian & Reptile Conservation).
