After being forced to endure quizzes on subjects she had absolutely no interest in — Horror, Christmas and all manner of nonsense — it's finally Marie's turn in the big chair!

This time, Neil, Luke, David & Jose are being put through the Queer Pop Culture Quiz, as Marie tests four straight guys on the ultimate question:Are they actually good allies… or are they about to embarrass themselves spectacularly?

David is already worried he's going to get absolutely nothing right.

Neil is quietly confident when it comes to the TV and film questions, but he's also keeping one eye on Jose, convinced that Jose is going to say something that gets the entire podcast cancelled.

Jose, meanwhile, thinks Neil is the one most likely to put his foot in it.

And Luke? Luke is just happy to be here.

So after years of everyone else getting to test their knowledge on subjects that Marie couldn't care less about, the power is finally hers.

But will Marie be a fair and just Quiz Master?Or will the power go straight to her head?

There is as always in our quiz episodes copious amounts of swearing, blatant cheating and at least one person throwing their toys out of the pram in an almighty show of poor sportsmanship…I’ll let you guess who that is, and guess what you’ll learn something - we sure did!

Play along at home and let us know how you scored in the comments!!!

Sometimes a film review goes exactly as planned. And sometimes… it becomes podcast folklore.Back in the early days of We Needed Roads, we let YOU decide what film we should review by voting on social media. Neil’s friend Jamie took this responsibility very, very seriously… voting a lot for one particular film until Tom Green’s gloriously unhinged comedy Freddy Got Fingered was chosen.Neil was already a fan.David, however, had never seen it.So David did what any loving fiancé would do… he sat down with his fiancée to watch Freddy Got Fingered. What happened next has gone down in We Needed Roads history as simply…THE INCIDENT. 💀Now, for the 200th episode, the full team reunites to revisit the story, relive the chaos and decide whether David was justified in his reaction or whether Neil was right all along. But the big question is…👀 Whose side will Ben take?🤔 Will Luke defend David?😂 Will Jose choose chaos?😐 And will Marie even care? One film. One questionable social media poll. One unforgettable viewing experience. This is the story of… THE FREDDY GOT FINGERED INCIDENT.

We’re going back to Episode 1 of We Needed Roads and revisiting one of the most controversial opinions in podcast history…👉 Neil said Doctor Sleep is better than The Shining.Yes. Really. Now, years later, Neil and David are back to settle the argument once and for all. Was Neil onto something? Has David finally accepted the truth? Or is saying Doctor Sleep is better than The Shining still one of the most outrageous takes ever recorded on the podcast? And this time, Ben is back to throw his opinion into the mix… while Jose, Marie & Luke reveal themselves to be the biggest scaredy cats in the We Needed Roads family, having not seen one — or, in some cases, either — of these films! 😂We revisit the original argument, and see whether anyone has changed their minds.

We’ve been a bit quiet recently, but there’s a very good reason

WE NEEDED ROADS HAS HIT 200 EPISODES!

And rather than doing something sensible, we got everyone together and talked absolute nonsense for 3 HOURS & 51 MINUTES.

Neil. David. Jose. Marie. Luke & a mystery returning guest...?

So what the hell have we packed into this monster?

🌈 Marie’s most frequently asked question whenever we choose something to podcast about:“But is it gay?”

💍 Marie must name her No.1 fictional husband from her ever-expanding harem.

The kitchen is officially closed... but before we say goodbye to The Bear, there's one very important question...Did we actually predict Season 5 correctly? 👀Back when we reviewed Season 4, Neil and Marie made some bold predictions about how Carmy, Sydney, Richie and the rest of The Bear's story would end. One of us ended up being alarmingly accurate (and has been unbearably smug ever since), while the other wasn't too far behind. In this FULL SPOILER REVIEW, Neil and Marie look back at their predictions before diving into everything that made the fifth and final season such an emotional farewell.🍽️ In this episode we discuss:Did The Bear stick the landing after two seasons that some viewers considered "mid" (Neil & Marie definitely didn't!)Carmy's final journey and whether his ending felt earned?Sydney's leadership and the evolution of her relationship with Carmy.Richie's incredible character arc (again!).Ebra's genius idea that could save the restaurant. The incredible structure of the season. Why this might be one of television's most satisfying final seasons. We also discover which member of Marie's ever-growing harem of fictional husbands made an appearance this season (she genuinely can't help herself), while Neil slowly realises he's become the Carmy Berzatto of podcast editing—sleep deprived, fuelled almost entirely by caffeine, and only capable of doing one thing: editing podcasts.Because Neil's life has been complete chaos recently, he made his notes live while watching the episodes, meaning this review occasionally descends into the unfiltered stream of consciousness of a very tired man. If you hear random observations about cheese, possessed Paul Rudd, Michelin stars or shouting "CHEESE!" at inappropriate moments... there's a reason. So grab a sandwich, say "Yes, Chef," and join us for one last service.Let us know your favourite moment from the final season in the comments!Follow We Needed Roads Podcast on the socials:🐦 Twitter/Xhttps://twitter.com/NeededRoads📸 Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/weneededroads🎵 TikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@weneededroadspodcast🎧 Follow us on Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/0E31ucDQy7Ha5PRdtahAjb?si=50a97260f09f4ad7👤 Our SocialsNeilhttps://bsky.app/profile/neilg78.bsky.socialhttps://www.instagram.com/neil_gregory78Neil’s Substack:https://substack.com/@greggors78Davidhttps://bsky.app/profile/llongd.bsky.social@llongd.bsky.socialJose🐦 https://x.com/aspanishjoe📸 https://www.instagram.com/joselopezphotos📷 https://www.jlopezphotos.comMariehttps://x.com/Life_onMarszhttps://www.instagram.com/life.on.marsz/And her podcast https://t.co/VEzFUG3ObX🚗 Fund Our Quest for a DeLoreanhttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/Weneededroads#TheBear #TheBearSeason5 #TheBearFinalSeason #JeremyAllenWhite #AyoEdebiri #FX #DisneyPlus #TVReview #SpoilerReview #EndingExplained #Podcast #WeNeededRoads

🚨 SPOILER WARNING! 🚨Pack your bags, avoid the fog and join the We Needed Roads Team for some sunset cocktails because we're heading to Widow's Bay for our full Season 1 Spoiler Special!Joining Neil are David, Jose and Marie to break down one of the biggest surprise TV hits of the year. The show we've affectionately dubbed "Spooky Parks and Recreation" somehow mixed small-town municipal comedy, supernatural horror and mystery into one of the most addictive new shows on TV.Neil has been banging on about Widow's Bay since he first heard the concept, convinced it was going to be something special before a single episode had aired.David eventually caught up... after delaying things because of something called a holiday (not to Widows Bay) Priorities, David.Jose completely ignored Neil's weekly recommendations until his family started watching it, at which point he suddenly realised Neil might actually have been right. And then there's Marie, who had to be practically dragged kicking and screaming into watching the show because horror really isn't her thing. The jump scares certainly didn't help... and she's still annoyed that there was no 'clown' warning.Join us as we discuss our favourite characters (all hail Queen Patricia) hilarious dialogue, the perfection of the shows tone and where Season 2 could take us? 👇 Let us know in the comments:👻 What did you think of Widow's Bay Season 1?🌫️ Did the finale stick the landing?😱 Which moment scared you the most?😂 Which moment made you laugh the most? And who was your favourite resident of the new Marthas Vineyard? 💪 BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL! 💀⚔️This week on We Needed Roads, we're heading back to Eternia for our spoiler-filled review of Masters of the Universe!Joining Neil are Marie, Jose, and special guest Clare from the W-Rated Podcast as we ask the important questions: Has He-Man finally got the big-screen adaptation fans have been waiting for? Does Skeletor still have the greatest villain design of all time? And can a film based on a toy line actually deliver?Neil and Jose are of a certain vintage, meaning they grew up with the cartoons, the action figures, and even survived the legendary 1987 movie. Jose, in particular, definitely spent a lot of time playing with Snake Mountain as a child... and we'll leave that sentence exactly as written.Meanwhile, Marie arrives with absolutely no Masters of the Universe lore, no research, and no idea what's going on—but one of her many fictional husbands appears in this film, so she's locked in regardless. And then there's Clare from the W-Rated Podcast, who couldn't confidently tell you the difference between She-Ra and Teela, but did hate-watch Riverdale all the way to the bitter end, making her uniquely qualified to assess Camila Mendes' arrival in Eternia.Join us as we break down the good, the bad, and the downright WTF moments from Masters of the Universe, discuss whether nostalgia helped or hurt the film, and find out if Eternia's newest adventure has the power... or if it should be banished to Snake Mountain forever.⚔️ Spoilers throughout!Follow We Needed Roads Podcast on the socials:🐦 Twitter/Xhttps://twitter.com/NeededRoads📸 Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/weneededroads🎵 TikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@weneededroadspodcast🎧 Follow us on Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/0E31ucDQy7Ha5PRdtahAjb?si=50a97260f09f4ad7👤 Our SocialsNeilhttps://bsky.app/profile/neilg78.bsky.socialhttps://www.instagram.com/neil_gregory78Neil’s Substack:https://substack.com/@greggors78Davidhttps://bsky.app/profile/llongd.bsky.social@llongd.bsky.socialJose🐦 https://x.com/aspanishjoe📸 https://www.instagram.com/joselopezphotos📷 https://www.jlopezphotos.comMariehttps://x.com/Life_onMarszhttps://www.instagram.com/life.on.marsz/And her podcast https://t.co/VEzFUG3ObXClare 📸 Instagramclareellenhope🐦 Twitter/Xclareellenhope🎵 TikTokclareellenhope1And her podcasthttps://youtube.com/@W-Rated?si=4qXPZOoi8roWOLZnhttps://open.spotify.com/show/2x7Ag7oDjg1e9mKOw9eGDO?si=b288ae7fe710454e🚗 Fund Our Quest for a DeLoreanhttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/Weneededroads#MastersoftheUniverse #HeMan #Skeletor #CamilaMendes #MovieReview #Podcast #WeNeededRoads #Eternia #SheRa #Teela

The internet's favourite nightmare has finally escaped YouTube and made its way to the big screen.Join Neil and special guest Clare from the W-Rated Podcast as we dive into Backrooms, Kane Parsons' hugely anticipated horror film adaptation of the viral phenomenon. We discuss how low-budget horror continues to punch well above its weight, following in the footsteps of recent breakout successes like Backrooms and Obsession, and ask whether a new generation of YouTube creators are proving they can bring their audiences from the algorithm to the box office. As always, we break down the good, the bad and the WTF moments from the film. Does Backrooms live up to the hype? Does its liminal horror work on a feature-length scale? And just how many endless yellow corridors is too many endless yellow corridors? We also share our own real-life liminal space horror stories, including Clare's surreal experience getting hopelessly lost in the backrooms of Disney World at 2am, and Neil's deeply unsettling midnight journey into the basement of a castle that felt like he'd accidentally noclipped out of reality. So grab a flashlight, keep an eye on the ceiling tiles, and whatever you do, don't follow the noises down the corridor...Follow We Needed Roads Podcast on the socials:🐦 Twitter/Xhttps://twitter.com/NeededRoads📸 Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/weneededroads🎵 TikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@weneededroadspodcast🎧 Follow us on Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/0E31ucDQy7Ha5PRdtahAjb?si=50a97260f09f4ad7👤 Our SocialsNeilhttps://bsky.app/profile/neilg78.bsky.socialhttps://www.instagram.com/neil_gregory78Neil’s Substack:https://substack.com/@greggors78And find Clare at 📸 Instagramclareellenhope🐦 Twitter/Xclareellenhope🎵 TikTokclareellenhope1And her podcasthttps://youtube.com/@w-rated?si=4qXPZOoi8roWOLZnhttps://open.spotify.com/show/2x7Ag7oDjg1e9mKOw9eGDO?si=b288ae7fe710454e#Backrooms #KaneParsons #HorrorMovies #MovieReview #LiminalSpaces #WeNeededRoads #WRatedPodcast

Welcome back to We Needed Roads, the podcast that proves you don’t need qualifications, training, or even basic emotional stability to be an astronaut...sorry review films on the internet, just a mic, a take, and the confidence of a man explaining astrophysics after two small beers.

This week, we’re diving headfirst into Project Hail Mary—a story about a guy who wakes up alone in space, confused, terrified, and wildly underqualified… so basically, Jose on a Monday morning.J

ose is here, ready to latch onto any weird alien creature like it’s his new best mate—or potential pet—and honestly, we’re one episode away from him trying to fire him into space.

Marie’s here too, and look—statistically speaking, there’s a very high chance she’s about to emotionally imprint on something in this film. Could be a character, could be a concept, could be a rock spider with backstory—we’ll find out together.

We’re talking science, survival, loneliness, existential dread, and whether humanity’s best hope is really just “send one bloke into space and hope for the best?'

Yes, it is especially if that mans Ryan Gosling So grab your space suits, question your life choices, and remember—if this mission fails… it’s probably Jose's fault.

Bold move watching a whole season hours before recording—so let’s not pretend this episode isn’t powered by caffeine, chaos, and Neil desperately trying to keep things on the rails.Welcome to our Star Trek: Starfleet Academy spoiler special, where the syllabus includes: deep lore dives, unhinged takes, and Jose and Marie trying to remember character names like they’re cramming for an exam they absolutely didn’t revise for.Neil is, of course, in his element—our resident lore master, ready to break down everything from Federation politics to the tiniest canon detail like he personally helped write Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.Jose has technically finished the show… but emotionally? Spiritually? Debatable. Expect vibes, chaos, and at least one take that makes Neil briefly reconsider doing this podcast. And Marie—let’s be honest—only showed up because Neil promised heated Klingonry. Was it worth it? Did she get what she came for? Or has she just accidentally made another sci-fi obsession her entire personality? History suggests we already know the answer. We’re talking best moments, worst decisions, standout characters, questionable plot choices, and whether this is a worthy addition to the Star Trek universe—or one that should’ve stayed in the holodeck.⚠️ FULL SPOILERS throughout ⚠️Drop your thoughts in the comments—did you love it, hate it, or are you still trying to figure out what Neil was on about?Subscribe for more reviews, rants, and absolute nonsense from We Needed Roads

📚🎬 Adapt This Book! | Dream Movie & TV Adaptations 🎬📚

What if Hollywood actually listened to us for once?

In this episode of Adapt This Book, Neil, Marie and Luke each pick a book they desperately want to see turned into a film or TV series — and then argue, nerd out, and wildly over-pitch like we’ve accidentally wandered into a Netflix boardroom.

📖 Luke brings the emotional devastation with Flowers for Algernon — a beautiful, heartbreaking sci-fi classic that would absolutely ruin everyone in the best possible way.

📖 Neil champions Daviola, a dark, unsettling novel billed as White Lotus meets Hereditary — rich people, simmering dread, and the kind of slow-burn horror that would make for a seriously fucked-up prestige TV adaptation.

📖 Marie goes full fantasy with Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow, pitching it as the perfect post–Harry Potter alternative — a rich, imaginative world, a young outsider hero, and enough magic, menace and heart to hook a whole new generation without feeling like a knock-off.

We talk tone, format (film vs TV), dream casting, what must not be screwed up, and why some books are crying out to be adapted.

👇 Let us know in the comments:
• Which book would you adapt?
• Who’s casting would you steal?
• And which studio would absolutely mess it up?

🚨 SPOILER REVIEW 🚨In this episode of We Needed Roads, Neil and David sit down for a full spoiler discussion of Rental Family, a film that quietly sneaks up on you, wrecks your emotions, and then gives you a big, gentle cuddle afterwards.Neil goes all in, describing Rental Family as a warm hug of a film and argues that Brendan Fraser’s performance here hits harder and feels more honest than his Oscar-winning turn in The Whale. Yep. He said it. We talk found family, loneliness, emotional labour, understated filmmaking, and why Fraser’s performance works so well when it’s smaller, softer, and less shouty. Welcome back to We Needed Roads, and this is your FULL SPOILER WARNING, because today we’re heading back to Derry… and nothing is safe. 🎈Neil, David and Luke dive headfirst into the storm drain of Welcome to Derry, HBO’s Stephen King–soaked return to the town that really should’ve been condemned decades ago. Alright folks, welcome back to We Needed Roads. This week Neil, David, Jose and Luke are catching up on everything they watched over the holidays – a wildly unhinged mix of Christmas classics, (regular classics) and they even escaped the Christmas cheer to make it to the cinema several times!

We’re diving into stone-cold legends like Jaws (still perfect), Home Alone (way darker than you remember), The Muppet Christmas Carol (still untouchable, regardless of the calendar), Gremlins (NOT a kids film), and It’s a Wonderful Life (emotionally devastating every single time).

But it’s not all nostalgia – we also get into newer watches including new Christmas classic The Holdovers, Oh What Fun, Wake Up Dead Man, The Housemaid, Avatar:Fire & Ash. Luke also finally catches up with the Oscar winning Everything Everywhere All At Once and Neil laments the reception to Fackham Hall!

Finally the guys dragged themselves out of food comas to the cinema to see Oscar hyped Marty Supreme & not Oscar hyped Anaconda and David took another trip to Pandora! So if your holiday watchlist went completely off the rails, this one’s for you.

Expect hot takes, questionable opinions, and the usual chaos. This is We Needed Roads – let’s get into it. 🎬

Happy New Year and welcome back to We Needed Roads — the podcast where the chat is nerdy, the swearing is plentiful, and research on release dates was definitely done.

This week we’re diving head-first into all the major TV show and movies were excited about that are hopefully dropping in 2026.

From superhero behemoths and prestige dramas to horror sequels, wild indies, new streaming experiments — we’re previewing it all with our usual hype & chaos!

💥 Jose – the blockbuster believer, defender of explosions.

📝 Clare – an actual film journalist keeping the rest of us semi-professional.

Hello and welcome back to the final We Needed Roads podcast of the year, our Top 10 Films of 2025 episode! And honestly, we’re lucky this recording still exists because friendships were tested.Neil championed small British indie films no one else had heard of, David flew the flag for horror like it was a religion, Marie championed exactly two films, and Jose… well… Jose knows what he did and has since been formally accused of lying on the podcast. There are rants. There is swearing. There are angry looks across the screen. And by the end of this episode, we genuinely don’t know if we’ll all still be on speaking terms. So strap in — this is We Needed Roads’ Top 10 Films of 2025, and it gets messy. This list is correct. We watched an irresponsible amount of television in 2025, and now it’s time to shout about it.On this episode of The We Needed Roads Podcast, we count down our Top 10 TV & streaming shows of 2025 — from prestige TV to the smaller show only Neil tried to make us watch.Join Neil who likely watched more TV than his other 3 co-hosts combined, Marie who checked out if it wasn't gay enough and also only seemed to rewatch the same 3 shows all year, David who luckily avoided the horrors of toddler TV but also because of parenting a tiny person had very limited TV time, and Jose who sent in a list of his top 3 shows (as opposed to 10) because either his amnesia is kicking in or he just watched a lot of mid-shows that didn't deserve a ranking. This list is correct. It’s a happy day in Hell — because we’re diving deep into Hazbin Hotel Season 2.

This season took everything fans loved and cranked it up. We got lore, emotions, wild twists, and songs that that are the good kind of tingle.

Vox rises as an incredible villain, delivering some of the most , memorable and entertaining songs of the series. The music is top-tier — from emotional ballads to heavy metal bangers. And yes… Huskerdust fans are absolutely broken-hearted after the finale.

Lucifer cements himself as Hell’s Number 1 Daddy, stealing scenes with charm, power, and goofy dad energy. And Alastor? A mad genius, both terrifying and brilliant — Season 2 had big plans for him and it delivered.

Sir Pentious is a good boy now!

This review covers character arcs, new lore, the emotional devastation, Vox’s rise to power, Alastor’s cunning plan, and how Season 3 sets can’t come soon enough.

If you love Hazbin Hotel’s chaos, music, and heartbreak, this is the breakdown you don’t want to miss.

We don't have time to bleed but we do have time to get into all the bloody spoilerific carnage (PG-13 carnage that is!) in Dan Tractenberg's 3rd Predator film, Predator Badlands.

Join Neil, David & Jose as they hunt for answers in their full spoiler review of Badlands and ask questions like 'is this actually a Predator film?' & 'Have they turned the Predator into a Disney Princess?'

We're only joking with those questions but some people honestly believe that and we also get into the films reception, as well as giving our own personal rankings of the Predator Franchise.

And try and stop Jose rating films he hasn't seen!!!

James Gunn’s Peacemaker is back for Season 2 — and after the success of Superman, Gunn brings his signature chaos he created in season 1 into the new DCU.The We Needed Roads crew teams up with @TheHowdyBeansPodcast to break down the wild mix of action, comedy, and trauma that makes Peacemaker one of DC’s most unpredictable shows.John Cena’s Peacemaker continues to wrestle with his demons (predominately daddy issues), Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante once again steals every scene, and Danielle Brooks’ Leota Adebayo gives the series its emotional core amid the madness. We dig into James Gunn’s balance of cheesy rock music, violent absurdity, and surprisingly heartfelt storytelling — and ask the big question: was Peacemaker Season 2 really necessary, or just ridiculously fun?

Alien: Earth crash-lands on FX and Hulu — the first Alien TV series from Noah Hawley, set two years before Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic.

Starring Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adarsh Gourav, and Timothy Olyphant, this series brings the xenomorph terror home.

But is Alien: Earth a bold new evolution for the franchise — or the worst idea since dressing a dog as a xenomorph?

We break down the good, the bad, and the “because the plot said so” moments, diving deep into the show’s visuals, pacing, and questionable science. From deep space to Earth, the Alien legacy continues — but is this one worth surviving?
