Then i asked what does your dog say & we had a good laugh. Interviewing is fun & includes a lot of spontaneity. That is why in the pre interview I never tell the guest what the exact questions are. What I do is go over the areas of questions, ... to cover everything in the pre-interview so that they are totally comfortable & relaxed in the interview. It is simply a conversation.

I love finding interesting people to give you quality interviews from a variety of experiences. Today will be our first grief educator interview. Last October I attended Small Business BC’s networking event at The Anvil Centre in New Westminster BC. I was very happy to meet Suzanne Ja-bour.
Suzanne’s son passed away in September of 2020. Through her grieving she has found meaning in her loss by providing grief education. Sharing how grief really works and how we can support people experiencing it. She works with organizations and businesses to build the skills and protocols to better support people who are grieving at work. Suzanne is available as a speaker to share her story and help normalize grief as a healthy response to losses big and small. She has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from UBC and decades of experience as a trainer. Discovering that building a successful business is all about building positive relationships. Recently experienced... Always everything works for the best & I am reminded of my wonderful friend who left me with his last words when he passed on. Joseph said on my last visit “Earl everything will all work out & be ok.” When life gets super challenging I recall his wonderful friendship & the great gift he left in his parting words.
What is more important is my family & friends. One friend this October we will celebrate 46 years ... I am very blessed to have good connections with family & so many friends & some long time & some new.

WHY, WHEN, & HOW. The vocal warm up helps to loosen the cords & effectively gets ready for.... project. Going through my range & waking up the different parts of my voice. Warming up also minimizes my mistakes.
When? In the morning. I have found these warm ups helpful: panting exercise, high & then low with my voice, standing in front of the mirror stretching my tongue to the left then the right. Then loosening my body up by jumping up and down with lots of energy & finishing with The P exercise, peter piper picked a peck of pickled peppers 10 times & getting faster each time. Annunciating clearly on each P.
7 warm up exercises to include in your routine. I will often refer to resonance. It is defined as: the quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating."the resonance of his voice" 1.Lip Rolls/Lip Trills For the Lip roll keep your mouth closed & make a B sound while keeping a constant flow of air. It will cause your lips to quickly vibrate creating the roll or trill sound.Begin by doing the exercise on a single straight pitch in your speaking range & when comfortable move through your vocal range starting from very high down to very low & your voice will warm up. 2Tongue Trills Similar to the LIP Rolls but the vibration is caused in your tongue instead of your lips. Being with your mouth in a neutral position, slightly open & make a D or G Keep a constant breath flow & feel the tongue tip vibrating against the roof of your mouth. 3“M” Sound is a good way to activate resonance in the front of the mouth & face. Make an M sound with your mouth closed & use constant breath flow. To keep the sound full & consistent without drastic changes in volume & intensity. Hold the sound for a few seconds on a single pitch. 4“N” Sound Keep upper mouth closed & in neutral position, make a “N” sound & . You likely will feel your tongue touching the roof of your mouth. 5“L” Sound activates some resonance a little further back in your head & throat ...you will feel vibration in the head & throat. Allow your tongue to gently press against the back of your top teeth & slightly open your mouth. 6“Z” Sound ...activating resonance in the front of the mouth & face. Using a more open sound than the previous exercises. Close your teeth but do not clench them & slightly open your mouth 7“NG” Sound is a great way to activate your nasal resonance. You will feel vibration in your nose & sinus areas. Focus on the NG sound & you can use a variety of different vowel sounds in front of the NG. Vocal warm ups are an excellent way to activate the various voice registers, resonances, & tones, of your voice & create flexibility & comfort. Will warm up different areas of your vocal sound creating greater overall flexibility & producing better voice performance.

Welcome to VOICE POWER Season 3 EP17. This week you will hear a blast from the past. An on air radio interview during my days at Giant FM in Penticton BC. Along with 2 radio commercials I voiced & produced at The Giant. I began there as the over night announcer back in late August 2000.
One day i was informed by the station manager that Robin Pinto Penticton’s female boxer, her Manager Peter Holt would be calling. Robin would be on the boxing card in Laughlin Nevada & I would interview Peter Holt live on-air that day. Later the interview would air via the news department’s Dennis Walker from my interview & production.
My love of interviewing began when I was at BCIT. In the 2nd year of the BCIT program BROADCAST Communications with The Radio Option. The students took over the radio station CFML & worked all positions. One was Making Contact a 1 hr interview show with 2 - 30 minute segments.
This interview with Peter Holt was enjoyable & my first professional interview. My love for interviewing grew with BCIT & The GIANT FM INTERVIEW.

My recent travel experience to the USA for the Blue Jays & M's...We started planning in January... Kelly has good experience going .. M’s game in Seattle.
The most difficult part of prep was getting ready to be at Pacific Station in downtown Vancouver ... at 5:35 AM & because of my good friend Ben giving a lift I made it with time to spare.
Customs at Pacific Station was smooth...The Amtrak...positive experience. ... We arrived in plenty of time for the game at 1 PM at T-mobile park...
Gausman was pitching an excellent game ...6 innings with 9 strikeouts & no walks. But in the 3rd... & Vlady JR is my fav Jay. I was hoping he would hit a HR ...Jays were up 7-4 in the 7th & in the bottom of the 7th the jay’s bull pen let them down... Pearson hit a batter on his first pitch. ... it was 9-7 for the M’s after 7. The Jays ...Kirk had a great day with 4 singles & got one on the 9th. The drama was building in the 9th...FINAL score m’s9- Jays 8. It was close all the way...
The toughest part of the trip was after the game...Kelly booked a yellow cab...Then we saw the cab coming our way & we both had our arms up hailing it. We saw the # on the cab & yes...The train was delayed 15 minutes. When i looked at my watch i thought it stopped 7:08 pm We left Seattle at 7:16 PM... Vancouver at 11:30 PM. They make an announcement & open the doors.. .What a relief to get on skytrain yet another longer wait because of the fireworks.
Kelly was aware of my difficulty walking & very helpful & caring suggesting to have a stop as there were seats. Kelly was amazing as he knows his way around Seattle though frustrated & it was so hot must been 90 degrees Fahrenheit. There were large crowds for the Taylor Swift concert that we made our way through & mostly beautiful young women dressed to party with Taylor Swift.
The good experience was possible because of great preparation, Ben’s lift as no public transport was available so early in the AM & Kelly’s awesome direction & experience .

Greater detail of the importance of sound in how my recording set up is arranged & all the steps. When there are technical concerns or challenges it does throw off the focus for voicing ,now is the set up that is ready for auditioning, recording a voice-over project, or podcast episode.
My recording system is on my Mac, it is GARAGE Band. Open Garage Band looking for my podcast template. Already has my intro. Firstly in the GB settings i will click on AUDI/MIDI & make sure output device is on External Headphones & input device is on krisp mic.
The black apple ... very top of my Mac far left hand corner. Click on system settings to see the sound output is on External Headphones ...
Sound is controlled by the Behringer audio interface &converts microphone signals into a format my mac and recording system software recognizes. The interface also routes audio from my mac out to my speakers and recording system. Check the recording settings 0 dB means that you are right at the threshold of human hearing. A positive dB means that the sound is a few times louder than the threshold, while a negative dB means that you are a few times softer than that threshold.
Hearing threshold is the sound level below...
Bottom half of GB to the far left in the recording settings. Below recording settings you will see record level. Check the volume... At the top of that lower 1/2 u will see buttons of Track, Master, & Compare. Track & Compare will show as Blue Buttons now click on Master & it will show as a blue button & to the far right you will see blue buttons of EFFECTS, OUTPUT , & EQ, make sure all those switches are off so there is no echo. When u click on EQ be sure that the line is flat with no variations.
Up to the top left hand corner & click on the scissors, the wave form of sound & being able edit. We can do a sound test to make sure the wave form is large enough & shows in green at the top left where you set the volume button for reasonable volume at minus 0.1DB.

Describe what makes good sound for a voice-over audition.... My set up is key: where my Mac book pro is placed...Then with ease the script is voiced with close proximity to my MXL770 Mic. When recording my speakers are turned off to avoid.... Placed over the Mic is the windsock to insure there are no problems with creating plosive sounds such as popping p’s ....
Previous place i was gifted with a vocal booth. In order to achieve the best vocal recording, it is necessary to have as much control over the area surrounding the microphone.... .Better still, if you can prevent any noise from outside from entering into the recording, you will be in great shape to record that perfect vocal. This is where the vocal booth comes in. By googling how to create a vocal booth you will find Designing a Vocal Booth - Primacoustic.
Next to my building a demolition ... When it was demolished next they were building the foundation of the new building. When I shared my recording dilemma in a networking group ...Tony Tsao, Director & Service Manager for Purplo Consulting solved the problem by sharing the app. It is just over 2 years ago that he shared the link for the KRISP App. I tested it for the inside noise & was delighted that the test was perfect there was no inside noise on my audio on the mp3. Now I was needing to make sure it worked for the outside noise. Strangely enough when i was wanting to test it. It was quiet many times. Finally the building of the foundation created lots of noise. I was ready to test it & the test was perfect. What a relief!!!
Since then they have further developed the app & after every usage they give a report. Call Summary provides ...

I will be discussing my voice experience with accents. I would go to YouTube and research .... Get the accent firmly in my mind.... I have many saved in my bookmarks from Arabic to Southern.
The easiest is The Indian Accent. They are wonderful people kind & friendly. All over South ASIA there are different Accents, not just Indian there is Pakistani, Sri Lankan & I am glad to be born in India.
The Texas accent is the most difficult because ... David Stern is a dialect coach who has taught Hollywood... The long “i” becomes “ah”: In a Southern accent, the long “i” sound (pronounced “eye”) sounds more like “ahh.” For example, “tired” becomes “tah-d” and “bike” becomes “bah-k.” Ah becomes so tah-d because Ah was riding my bah-k from Houston to Austin.It’s such a long long way ah want to go to bed.
I voiced a Boston Accent & it landed a voice-over for The Church by the Glades in Florida. I used my New England/Boston accent for Voicing a segment of Frederick Douglass - The hypocrisy of American Slavery, 1852. “ How should i look today in the presence of Americans ...There is not a man beneath the canopy of heaven who does not know that slavery is WRONG. The Chicago accent is a more relaxed accent. A’s are very important & some of the t"s become d’s. The higher your voice is the more you get a Chicago sound especially with women. A deeper voice guy the accent doesn’t stand out as much. For example : Dat guy & I are going down to 1060 West Addison to watch a Cubs game.

In 2002, he started a non profit organization called Clothes2U with the purpose of giving clothes to Langley residents, free of charge. This remarkable idea grew out of a single parents support group Ernie formed a few years earlier. One in 10 BC residents are below the poverty line & this makes a significant difference to thousands. He started by giving adult clothes & has grown to clothes for babies to adults, toys, linens, diapers/incontinence products, books, personal and smaller household items.
They’ve grown from Langley to also serving Surrey, Newton, Guilford, White Rock, Abbotsford, Aldergrove, & Chilliwack with two events per year per community. Many thousands are encouraged in their lives by these events. They are held in halls and church gyms with the space provided free. Attendees over the age of 10 pay a $3 entry fee and that is their only cost. They are welcome to receive as many clothes as they need for free. The entry fee is for the expense of operating Clothes2U and does not cover all the cost, thus, the balance comes out of Ernies’ pocket.

My sleep is usually very good evidenced by detailed interesting...Going back quite a few years I volunteered for a sleep project. On cable TV viewing a promotion The sleep project at Shaugnessey Hospital in Vancouver BC.
There was lots of sleep education, including: sleep patterns, inner sleep clock, stress affecting sleep, relaxation tape, & my questions & progress. Once my initial interview was completed my task was to complete a survey on my sleep quality. It was important to not take any short cat naps during the day. Instead if i got sleepy during the day i would go out for a good brisk walk.
Going to bed & getting up at the same times was vital to setting the inner sleep clock. When i haven’t fallen asleep very quickly I was directed to get up & do something relaxing. Like read a book or watch TV. I always know when i have a lousy night that the next will be a good sleep.
Dr Fleming carefully analyzed my surveys on sleep. Then he booked my overnight stay at Shaugnessey hospital for a nocturnal polysomnogram. The results were I did not have any major sleep problems. The end result was that stress will always throw off the sleep. Handling stress is key.
What is important is that i will not deal with financial matters just before going to...

Escaping from a Romanian industrial town of the Eastern Communist block 33 years ago. Michael Tudorie climbed critical hurdles to make his way to Canada & adjust to a new life & become a successful real estate agent for RE/MAX Select Properties in Vancouver, BC.
Author Michael Tudorie left Romania for Canada with mere pennies in his pocket, fleeing the tyranny of his home country for a new life in Vancouver. His mother a single mom on welfare with alcoholic addiction. Richard Young has battled back to an incredible life. His recovery is truly amazing.
Richard began his substance abuse at 12......
His father was absent & an active criminal... He came to believe that it was his destiny to be a criminal. Their family was poor, he decided to start shoplifting... Richard knew if your treated like a criminal you will become a criminal. He was very good at it, his street name was slippery people called slip for short.
Richard heard a lot of good about Vancouver & made his way out west to BC. At 65 he obtained a decent apartment...
His sister lived in his building & attended church and would ask him do you want to come to church with me. He refused & would say i don’t believe in fairy tales.
Richard is currently living a new life & serving others with The Chinatown Stewards program establishing a safer and more inclusive community in and around Vancouver Chinatown. Providing a variety of services : helping tourists navigate the Chinatown district and acting as liaisons between shopkeepers and those experiencing homelessness, using drugs or loitering.

Ross' journey to voice-over began in the 3rd grade. His first introduction into the recording arena started by recording books on tape for his fellow students. Immediately, his interest was peaked, and he started devoting more and more time to recording on an old reel-to-reel machine.
Throughout his school days, Ross performed the morning and afternoon announcements over the school's PA system. Additionally, he worked as the DJ at the local roller rink. His first big opportunity came when CJIB – the local station – allowed him to cover high school basketball games on their radio station. This led to his very own one-hour show during the middle of the night. From then on, Ross never looked back and is steadfast on his broadcasting journey as a voice-over artist.
In his senior year of high school at Vernon Senior Secondary he enthusiastically received training at the Columbia School of Broadcasting. For 5 years from 1995 to 2000 Ross was the Account Manager & Voice Actor at 95.3 FM in Vancouver. For 5 years from 2007 to 2012 Ross was the Co-Founder, CEO, Producer & Voice ACTOR at GO2 Productions in Vancouver.

He owned an Aircraft Maintenance business for over 15 years maintaining flying school aircraft, and business aircraft in and around the lower mainland airports, Boundary Bay , Langley, Vancouver International, Pitt Meadows and Chilliwack Airports.
The aircraft maintenance business folded when he was in a terrible crash created by a drunk driver. During his recovery he retrained and became an aircraft maintenance instructor at BCIT, Sea Island Aerospace Campus. Welcome to VOICE POWER, Creating Positive Energy Episode 19 of Season 2. We will embrace positive energy. We all go through times of negative energy & it feels like it is never ending.
People typically have more than 6,000 thoughts per day. We all have energy & are responsible to keep it glowing into the positive. Over working without breaks ...When a situation occurs responding ASAP is necessary...
What triggers your negative thoughts? I know that when someone does not show up when they agreed to & gives no advanced warning will be a de-energizing experience. When someone does show up I am very grateful & will express my gratitude. At times it is very challenging to stop the negative & convert it to positive.
In creating effective voice-overs I need to be in a positive space. When constant fraud calls come in & I decided to find out who they are & make a complaint it was de-enregizing. I was not able to do an outstanding voicing. Now i know the steps to block those calls & their frequency is greatly reduced. Being positively focused makes a difference in that all my voice skill will be empowered & focused for creative expression.
Choosing to be with positive, powerfully encouraging people creates great amazing energy. Recently with a long time friend I enjoyed a Starbucks get together. It felt like we’d been chatting for a little over 1/2 an hour. In fact it was 2 hours, our conversation flowed & we both were relaxed & it felt like time stood still.
List 5 people that we feel totally comfortable with. Think of creative ways to send them positive uplifting messages. When a negative situation jumps at you it is important to have a strategy to convert it to a positive. 1.Close your eyes & take 3 deep breaths hold & release your breath ( unless you are driving , only take a deep breath & release. 2. Imagine what the other person is feeling & empathize with what they are going through. 3. Try to express in a positive manner the negative experience. 4. Recall a similar experience when you responded in a positive way. 5. At the end of the day write in your journal 3 experiences or people that you are grateful for.
Here is a challenge that i have experienced The Gratitude Challenge. For 21 days choose 3 people or experiences that you are grateful for.
You may ask what does this have to do with voice-overs? It has everything to do with voicing. When i step up to express & do a project or audition I must be fully present in a positive way focusing on giving my best & not allowing any negative space to come into my body & voice.

She discovered all she could do was whisper & experienced no body movement. Linda was unable to tell the medical personnel that she was alive.
Linda’s story is a battle of staying alive as she was give a 5% chance of recovering. We will pick up her story from that point. What will happen next? Today here are helpful tips for public speaking presentations. These ideas come from a seminar previously presented a few years ago by Public Speaking Coach Danielle Benzon.
It is vital to look your audience squarely in the eye, eye contact is key to connecting with them & helps you relax. Of course you must have your content not memorized but internalized. Better to know the concept & be able to express it in several ways. For instance ...There are many ways to say this & it is easier to remember when you are not stuck on specific wording but focused on the ideas & concepts. With repetively practising the speech the ideas land & your ability to recall grows & grows.
When your body is relaxed then you can reach a point where you know something vital. That is you know the why you are saying what you say. Knowing ... Before you start your speech it is helpful to take a moment to breathe & get yourself centred. It will give your audience anticipation ...
Choosing a topic or idea that you have lots of heart for is key. Then your message will really resonate & grow with your key points. If you choose something that is not your passion the audience will sense it & you will loose your connection with them.
This is all about being authentic because you are prepared, passionate, & poised. Pauses at the right time will add emphasis when you determine they are needed. Maybe the pause will come as you are recalling the idea you want to convey. But your audience doesn’t know that & you don’t want to indicate that you are trying to remember what to say.
Remember the audience hears 7% of your words, 38% of your voice, & 55% of your body language. Then you want to be very expressive & keep in mind to own the stage when you speak.
