In August 2026, we welcomed Revd Dr James Beevers to the UTC Faculty.  As Lecturer in New Testament, James will teach Greek and New Testament across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Born in Switzerland, James moved to Germany, where he would later begin his theological education.  After earning his BA in Theology and starting his graduate studies toward an MA in Bonn, James transferred to Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia) where he completed his MDiv and PhD. His doctoral thesis centred on the book of Hebrews, and is currently being edited for publication.

This episode contains the first part of Dr Beevers teaching a UTC lecture on Galatians & The History of the Interpretation of Paul.   Part 2 coming next week.

From the pages of the past: why Church history matters, with Dr Matthew Houston and Dr Martyn Cowan09 sept. 202600:38:30

What can historical knowledge offer us in navigating the current challenges of our day?  And how does an awareness that we are part of a much larger story than our own generation or denomination benefit the Church.  This is exactly what Dr Matthew and Dr Martyn Cowan will be discussing in our episode today.

Disability and the Church, with Erin Burnett04 sept. 202600:31:02

Back in Spring 2026, UTC’s ministry and deaconess students completed the Pastoral Care and Reflective Practice module.  This module covered a number of topics relevant to the practice of pastoral care within churches, one of which was caring for those with disabilities in PCI congregations.  Erin Burnett was one of the contributors to that module, and is the author of ‘With All Your Mind: Autism and the Church.’  In today’s episode, Erin joins Rev Gordon Best to share some of her research findings as well as her own personal experiences.

The Makings of a Missional Church, with Rick Hill27 juil. 202600:39:45

Our understanding of mission shouldn’t be seen as merely one activity of the church, but the very essence of the church's identity rooted in the Missio Dei.  But what are the characteristics of that identity?  What are the theological foundations and practical expressions of a missional church?  Rick Hill oversees the Council for Mission in Ireland within the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.  In this episode, he joins Rev Gordon Best to explore what it means for a local church to be missionally-minded; and how congregations can participate in contextually appropriate mission initiatives that reflect a commitment to the gospel, faithfully embodying the mission of God in everyday life.

Approaching Revelation with Prof Gordon Campbell05 juin 202601:03:21

For many people, Revelation is considered to be less approachable than other books of the Bible. Navigating all of the strange imagery, symbolic language and depictions of heavenly visions that have sparked endless for centuries can be overwhelming for readers.

However, as Prof Gordon Campbell explains to Dr Stephen Moore, the starting point should be to view Revelation as a coherent work of literature in its own right.  Join us, as Gordon outlines why Revelation continues to fascinate him after years of researching the book, and why despite being a challenging text, the book of Revelation has much to offer believers today.
