Escaping the Drama Triangle: Blocked Care and the Path to Re-Connection | UnMuted Love Ep.51

lundi 21 avril 2025Durée 14:44

Today's episode is all about stepping out of the drama of playing various unhealthy roles inside ourselves and within our families. Ce briefly shares parts of the Karpman Drama Triangle and how replacing it with the Empowerment Triangle can save you from Victim, Persecutor, and Rescuer behaviors in your family interactions. Stop the chaos by stepping out of the drama.

From Ce Eshelman:

Are you searching for a community of parents who will get you; who offer an attentive ear and open arms in the worst of times; who give you a standing ovation for the monumentally big "small steps" forward you make with your child? It is so painful to walk the jagged trail of this parenting journey alone and no one is ever alone in the Love Matters Parenting Society Therapeutic Parent Program. You will feel seen, understood, and actually deeply cared for. We know it as "love." The Society is a virtual program for parents of children who experienced trauma and others who support them or work with them professionally. You don't have to wait a minute longer. We are right here waiting for YOU!

A Glimpse into the Unknown by Naomi Houston | UnMuted Love Ep.42

lundi 3 février 2025Durée 30:31

Ce interviews Naomi Houston about her journey from being adopted from China by American parents through her recovery from complex developmental trauma.. Naomi has written a lovely account of her therapeutic recovery to date from abandonment trauma in adoption in her first book, A Glimpse into the Unknown. Naomi speaks frankly about her childhood struggles and gives her thoughts on what to do or not to do when parenting children who are struggling after adoption. I hope you enjoy the show.

I recommend this book for deep-thinking, teen readers, as well as, for young adults who have experienced trauma in their early years. It may be hard to read for some who are not used to complex sentence structures, analysis, or insight into the trauma recovery process; but, for some, it will be a lovely roadmap to freedom from self-destruction, self-loathing, and grief. There will be more books from Naomi, I feel certain, in the future. She has a beautiful, writing voice, and a sound therapeutic sensibility.

A Glimpse Into The Unknown by Naomi Houston is available now on Amazon.

Before All Else Fails, Use A Mantra | UnMuted Love Ep.37

Taking the Wild Out of the Holidays | UnMuted Love Ep.35

lundi 9 décembre 2024Durée 34:14

"The holidays" start every year in October and they keep on rolling until after the New Year. Let's face it, "fun" can be stressful for everyone. Ce Eshelman knows you can create joyful experiences this holiday when you consider each person's capacity to tolerate social, physical, and emotional stimulation. It helps to have the right tools, too. It is possible to enjoy all the seasons' festivities with children from difficult beginnings if you plan thoughtfully for the hustle and bustle. It never seems like we have enough time for slowing the rush and simply breathing into the holiday spirit. Enjoy today's episode to get some timely tips for what holidays are ahead.

The Delightful Ginger Healy | UnMuted Love Ep.34

mercredi 4 décembre 2024Durée 34:45

Ce Eshelman interviews Ginger Healy, the Director of the Attachment and Trauma Network (ATN), a parent-created national organization supporting traumatized children and their parents. In 1995 three mothers who were parenting children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder met to support one another only to find how similar their journeys were and that they truly were “Not Alone,” ATN was born. Ginger is an incredible champion of parents of children from difficult beginnings all over the country.

The mission of ATN could not be more aligned with Ce's mission at The Attach Place and in the Love Matters Parenting Society Therapeutic Parent Program. These are ATN's posted beliefs that resonate deeply with Ce, as every day she walks the same path with the same beliefs:

We Believe
  • We believe that children impacted by trauma and those with attachment disorders can heal.
  • We believe that parents, who are supported and taught therapeutic parenting, are the best healing agents of their traumatized child.
  • We believe that children impacted by trauma need trauma-informed, attachment-focused therapies.
  • We believe that all children learn best in trauma-sensitive schools where strategies are in place to help the children and adults feel safe, stay regulated, get connected, and not be re-traumatized or triggered. We believe trauma-informing schools empower trauma-responsive educators.
  • We believe that providing resources to the families from the start is the best way to minimize crises and promote healing.
  • We believe that ongoing peer-to-peer support is critical to empowering caregivers and communities with strategies, resources, and strength to persevere daily.
  • We believe that “touching trauma at its heart” is more than a tagline, it’s a healing mission.

From Ce Eshelman:

Are you searching for a community of parents who will get you; who offer an attentive ear and open arms in the worst of times; who give you a standing ovation for the monumentally big "small steps" forward you make with your child?
