In 1985, interest in the gym increased when a film crew descended upon Knightstown, looking for a place to film Hoosiers. The movie told the story of the unique phenomenon known as Hoosier Hysteria — Indiana’s obsession with basketball. The gym provided the perfect setting. About one third of the film was filmed in the gym. As a result of the success of this film, the old Knightstown gymnasium came to be known as the Hoosier Gym. In his 36 years of coaching, currently at Florida Gulf Coast,  Sutton has had three different stints coaching for USA Basketball. He was an assistant coach for two years at the Hoop Festival for the East, helping the Junior Developmental Team (U16) win gold at the FIBA Americas Tournament in Argentina.

During his time with Georgetown, Sutton helped the team to a 55-44 record with a pair of postseason appearances. In his second year with the program, Georgetown went 22-11 overall and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Sutton arrived at Georgetown following two seasons as an assistant coach at George Washington. He also had a pair of two-year stints as an assistant coach at both James Madison and Old Dominion.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Sutton coached at five nationally-ranked high school programs – Flint Hill Prep (1988-90), Harker Prep (1990-92), St. John's Prospect Hall (1992-98), Montrose Christian, and Montverde Academy (2004-11) – amassing a 489-102 record and winning two national championships. At Montverde Academy, Sutton coached seven nationally ranked teams and compiled a 186-33 record, while turning out 55 Division I scholarship athletes and three All-America selections.

Dave Severns is the Director of Player Development with the LA Clippers. Doug Brotherton is in his first year with the Golden Hurricane as the coordinator of player development, joining the team prior to the 2021-22 season.

Brotherton came to Tulsa from The Village School [Houston, Texas], where he has served as the varsity girls basketball coach for the last nine years.  In the past three years, Brotherton led his teams to a 98-10 record, claimed three-straight district and regional championships, and advanced to the state championship game in each of those seasons.  In 2020, The Village School won the TAPPS 6A Girls Basketball Championship, the first in school history and the first for a Houston area school in over 30 years.  For his efforts, Brotherton was named the 2020 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Coach of the Year and the 2020 VYPE Houston Coach of the Year.

Brotherton took a program with just 17 players in his first year (2012) to as many as 70 players to form five teams for grades 6-12 at The Village School by 2020.  Brotherton led The Village School to their first playoff appearance for a girls’ sports team in school history, qualifying for the TAPPS 4A state tournament, and had six-straight 20+ win seasons.

Brotherton serves as the executive director of Coaches Edge, a company that has created a community workspace for coaching development.  He manages all aspects of the company, including staffing, product development, budget, partnerships and sponsorships.

Coach Bob Starkey and I discuss important traits of an assistant coach, and how to organize a "Championship Level Practice".  Coach Starkey brings 42 years of experience to the conversation and hit a multitude of topics.  This was one of my favorite guest I have interviewed.  Enjoy! In 1990, Starkey moved to Louisiana State University as an assistant for the LSU men's team until 1996. In 1997, he was an administrative assistant for the LSU men's and women's basketball teams. Starting in 1998, he served as an assistant coach for the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team until 2011. During the 2007 season, he served as interim head coach during the 2007 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament.  During his time as interim head coach, Starkey led the Lady Tigers to its fourth straight Final Four, coaching the team to a 4–1 record. Starkey stated that he had no desire to become LSU's head coach on a permanent basis and instead remained at LSU as an assistant coach under Van Chancellor. During the 2011–2012 season, Starkey was an assistant for UCF women's team. Oral Roberts stole the hearts of the basketball world in the NCAA Tournament.
