This platform “The Wave” is a podcast series that will endeavour to challenge leaders of the African and Afro-Descent cultural and creative industries about our future. The wave allegory refers to the incredible contemporary and cultural movement led by Africans and Afro-Descendants all around the world, which currently is nourishing humanity with its creativity. Once per week, each episode welcomes a new set of experts from a creative field and invite them to discuss challenges and opportunities of their sector while sharing how they transformed their business to face covid-19. Paola Audrey Ndengue : Fondatrice de l’agence créative Panelle & Co. Je suis actuellement installée à Abidjan. Mes activités recouvrent principalement les industries culturelles en particulier les médias et la pop culture. J’ai été la co-fondatrice du magazine de mode Fashizblack. Je suis investie dans le développement des industries culturelles et créatives via ma newsletter « Africa Digest » dans laquelle je partage mes coups de coeur, et mes analyses sur le lifestyle ou l’actualité pop africaine. Je produis également des émissions, parmi lesquelles « Afrique & Pop » diffusée en 2019 sur TV5 Monde, ainsi que la web émission « Le Débrief » sur youtube. Aujourd’hui, je suis heureuse d’accueillir trois invités d’exception, des pointures dans leurs domaines respectifs.

Intervenants

N’Goné Fall : vous êtes architecte et commissaire d’exposition. Vous avez notamment participé à une réflexion en 2011 sur la réforme des institutions culturelles néerlandaises, puis avez pris part à la conception d’une stratégie d’exportation culturelles des Barbades. En 2016 vous avez présidé le jury de la Biennale de Dakar et en 2018 vous avez été mandatée par le Président de la République Française Emmanuel Macron pour piloter la saison culturelle Africa 2020 qui a été reportée en raison de la pandémie, et s’est finalement déployée en 2021.

Martial Ze Belinga : vous êtes économiste et sociologue ! Vous avez été consultant pour le Salon international de l’artisanat de Ouagadougou, et vous siégez au comité de rédaction de la revue Présence africaine. Vous êtes membre du comité éditorial de l’UNESCO pour le projet de l’Histoire générale de l’Afrique ! Vous êtes un spécialiste des industries culturelles africaines !

Thione Niang : vous avez un parcours pas comme les autres puisque vous choisissez dès l’âge de 22 ans de quitter le Sénégal avec vingt dollars en poche pour réaliser votre rêve américain. Vous avez occupé divers emplois d’appoint avant de vous engager auprès du Sénateur Barack Obama dans la course à l’investiture présidentielle. C’est ainsi qu’à la suite de sa victoire, vous devez Conseiller spécial en charge de l’éducation et de la jeunesse au Congrès américain. Vous êtes également entrepreneur puisque vous avez plusieurs initiatives à votre actif, votre société TN Consulting qui fait de la gestion de campagne politique et de la communication, votre organisation non gouvernementale Give1Project dédiée à faire émerger des jeunes leaders, ainsi que les fermes JeufZone pour répondre aux besoins agricoles du continent africain. Vous êtes aussi écrivain, auteur de plusieurs ouvrages tels que Mémoires d’un éternel optimiste, letters to my sisters ou encore Demain tu gouvernes le monde. Et maintenant vous avez choisi de vous lancer dans la littérature jeunesse et dans la production audiovisuelle !

Dans ce nouvel épisode du podcast The Wave sur le pouvoir des mots, nous allons explorer avec nos invités comment on utilise les mots pour impulser le changement.

Du poète, à l'écrivain en passant par le rappeur, comment en Afrique la prise de parole à travers les textes écrits ou interprètes insuffle un élan de renouveau et témoigne d'un héritage.

Modératrice :

Laure Blédou, est une éditrice, elle dirige la succursale Afrique de l'éditeur Bayard qui s'articule autour du développement de deux magazines jeunesse : « Planète J’aime Lire » et le nouveau magazine pour les tout-petits « mes Premiers Planète J’aime Lire ». Elle est aussi co-fondatrice de TEDX en Côte d’Ivoire et de la Malle aux Livres au Mali. Elle partage chaque semaine des idées de sorties culturelles et de lectures pour petits et grands dans l’émission panafricaine « Avant-Première » diffusée sur Canal + Afrique.

Intervenants

Sophie Heidi Kam : poétesse, dramaturge, nouvelliste et auteure de nombreux ouvrages. Elle a remporté de multiples récompenses dont la Plume d’or, un prix décerné par le Ministère du Commerce et de l’Industrie. Sa première pièce de théâtre Et le soleil sourira à la mer a été publié en 2008, suivi de Nos jours d’hier ou qu’il en soit ainsi, qui a par ailleurs remporté le Grand Prix National pour les Arts et les Lettres en 2012. Dans ses travaux, elle s'intéresse beaucoup à la société Burkinabé et aux conséquences des conflits en région sahélienne sur les populations.

Stomy Bugsy : auteur compositeur et interprète franco-cap verdien. Pionnier du rap français et co-fondateur du Ministère A.M.E.R., l’un des groupes de Hip-Hop français des années 1990 aux côtés d’autres légendes du rap français Passi, Doc Gynéco. Sa carrière solo est un énorme succès avec son premier album, Le Calibre qu’il te faut certifié double disque d’or. Il a aussi collaboré avec d’autres groupes comme les Neg Marrons et Arsenik. Sa carrière continue dans le cinéma où lil endosse des rôles pour plusieurs films parmi lesquels on peut citer le film Aliker sorti en 2008, ou encore sorti en 2011.

Ninel Musson : in a male-dominated music industry, Ninel is not only a senior executive but one of the only female co-founders of a Record Label and Management Agency on the continent. As a formidable entrepreneur, over the last decade Ninel has transformed a unique music start-up operating locally to an impactful pan African independent Record Label and Talent Management agency with an enviable roster of Africa’s most well-known Music Talent from Ami Faku to AKA. Ninel combines her passion for developing the creative economy in Africa and her distinctive academic background including three degrees - Ninel holds a Bachelors in Corporate Finance, Honours in International Business and Masters in Management in Strategic Marketing from Wits Business School, awarded with distinction.
Cobhams Asuquo is a Nigerian singer/songwriter, and music producer. Asuquo Music Productions (CAMP), in 2006. He rose to international acclaim in 2007 as the lead Music Producer and co-writer for Asa, the award winning self-titled album by Nigerian soul sensation, Asa, who at the time was signed to Naive Records in France.
Gigi Atlantis is a Nigerian singer-songwriter. She made a remarkable debut in the music industry with her song “Wahal on the rocks”, which quickly became a radio hit in Nigeria in 2020. She has also collaborated with artists such as Boj and Odunsi. Gigi produces her own songs and distributes her own song and demonstrates vividly the life of alternative genre musicians in Africa.

On this new episode of " The Wave" we will be discussing how Africa’s music industry is taking off, after exploding on dance floors across the world, how Afrobeats – the exciting sound emerging from
West Africa – has entered global music’s consciousness and most importantly how to develop a
strong market at home.

• Franck Alcide-Kacou is Franco-Ivorian and heads Universal Music Africa. He also recently
launched Def Jam Africa. Popularly known as “Black Kent”, he was a singer songwriter
and rapper prior to joining Universal.

• Valentine Gaudin is the Managing Director of Trace Southern Africa. With over 10 years
of experience in the entertainment / television industry, Valentine is in charge of driving
the strategies for the TRACE operations in Anglophone & Lusophone Africa (marketing,
communication, digital platforms, sales, tv channels & programming).

• Ladipoe : Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper. He rose to prominence with the release of the songs “Feel Alright”, on which he was featured by SDC ‘Show Dem Camp’, “Are you down?” in 2018
featuring Tiwa Savage. He was the first rapper to be signed to Don Jazzy’s Mavin
records. During the COVID19 locked down in 2020, Ladipoe went ahead to drop his hit
single “Know you” featuring Nigerian singer Simi, that became an internet sensation on social media and won a Headie award just three days ago.

Jackie Motsepe, Chief Operating Officer of the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission. The mandate of the Commission is to make the KwaZulu-Natal province a film production hub, and to position it as a globally competitive, diverse and sustainable industry and choice film destination.
