Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #73: The Best Leica RF Camera Isn’t a Leica

Épisode 73

jeudi 19 septembre 2024Durée 01:32:32

The Shutter Brothers are in the studio - and so is Wayne's new camera! And what a camera it is! The Canon VI-L is as impressive a 35mm meter-less mechanical shutter rangefinder camera we've ever seen. Could it be better than a Leica? Listen and find out.

Meanwhile, Kevin is back from his amazing Alaskan cruise with six and a half rolls of exposed film. Listen for a report on how his two SLR cameras and three lenses performed on the 2000 mile journey.

Next, the Shutter Bros read some listener questions about focus loupes and stand development, the latter of which serves as a chance to discuss Wayne's updated Caffenol CL formula. Both Wayne and Kevin have used it with 4x5 sheet film with excellent results, but would it work with roll film?

Wayne's Leica-busting Canon VI-L isn't the only camera Wayne had been testing out lately. The Goerz Minicord is one of the most unique cameras we've ever seen. It's a subminiature twin lens reflex camera that uses double perforated 16mm film. Was it intended to be used as a spy camera? We've got opinions, as usual.

Fiinally, Wayne and Kevin preview our 3rd Annual Photowalk with the Shutter Brothers, which is going to happen on Saturday, October 26, at Fort Southwest Point near Kingston, Tennessee. The city of Kingston will be celebrating its 225th birthday with period military reenactments, and the photography opportunities will be numberous and rich.  No matter what kind of camera you bring, you will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make interesting photographs, as well as connect with other photographers. We hope to see you there.

As always, our show notes can be found at www.unclejonesyscameras.logspot.com.

Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #72: Exposure Compensation Sensation!

Épisode 72

dimanche 18 août 2024Durée 01:22:27

If you have a camera with an automatic exposure mode (such as aperture or shutter priority), you may have wondered about that dial on your camera with +1 +2 and -1 -2? That dial is the way you access your camera's exposure compensation, and knowing how to use it will make you a better photographer. Shutter Brothers Wayne and Kevin do a deep dive into how exposure comensation works and when you should use it.

Meanwhile, Kevin shares his thoughts about his opportunity to use his 'dream' camera. Was it a positive experience? Will Kevin be shelling out some big bucks? Or, is there a greater lesson to be learned here? Listen to find out.

Next, Wayne and Kevin get philisophical again and share some of the deep 'dark' thoughts they have been having lately with "Thoughts from the Dark(room)." If you've been having some deep thoughts about your photography lately, you can share them with us by email (unclejonesyscameras@gmail.com), Instagram (@UJCPodcast) or Facebook (also @UJCPodcast). We'e love to hear from you!

Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #61: Depth of Field Deep Dive

Épisode 61

vendredi 16 juin 2023Durée 02:01:25

Kevin is here, Wayne is back from Norway, and the Shutter Brothers are together again and ready to take a deep dive into everything about depth of field - what is it, how can it be controlled, and why it matters. Learning how to make depth of field work for you can take your photography to a higher level, and that's a good thing!

Wayne also shares his recent experiences in Norway and the approach to photography he took while there. He had many memerable experiences along the way, including a visit to a truly awesome analog photogrpahy shop in Bergen (where Wayne was able to replenish his film supply). He used all three of the cameras he brought wih him, and he shot mmost of his film. We can't wait to see the results!

Finally, the Shutter Bros read some interesting listener email from a couple of Mikes, one of which may have an impact on Kevin's Condo Bathroom Darkroom Project.

We always are grateful for our listeners who take the time to send us some feedback, so please keep those emails and comments coming! You can send us an email with comments, questions, tips, reviews, and stories to unclejonesyscameras@gmail.com  You also can find us on Facebook and Instagram, and feel free to leave your feedback there. Épisode 1

lundi 1 mai 2023Durée 01:22:39

The Shutter Brothers are back - and Wayne has his Normay camera bag with him! Today we get to find out what gear he plans to take with him to Norway in May. We also hear about Wayne's travel plans and what he expects to photograph there.

Before we get to look inside Wayne's camera, however, it's time to empty the mailbag and read some listener mail. Listener Roger gives a tour of his "mini camera museum,' which you can see by going to our show notes. We also read two emails that refer to Pentax cameras, and as a coincidence, Kevin relates his recent fist time experiences with the Pentax Spotmatic SP and the Pentax ME Super.

Meanwhile, Kevin talks about his second attempt at creating a darkroom space in his small condo, and Wayne shares more of his "Thoughts from the Field."  Happy Photography!

Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #57: Still Alive and Clicking

Épisode 57

dimanche 19 février 2023Durée 01:12:51

Life happens, and when it does, podcasts go on hold. But the Shutter Brothers are back with an informal chat about life, travels, and, of course, cameras. And we love cameras! But sometimes we may have to consider getting rid of some of our cameras. Kevin and Wayne discuss the whys and hows of reducing the camera "inventory" and why it might even make us better photographers.

And speaking of getting rid of stuff, we're in a generous mood. There's stuff in our closets that need to go, and you could be the beneficiary. Listen to find out how.
