In a special episode of the podcast, Mr P has a chat with the shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson. Unfortunately, The Other Mr P is away on a residential and therefore couldn't join, so Mr P is having a more serious chat with the potential new education secretary. With the general election less than a month away, he was keen to chat to Bridget about some of the policies announced and hopefully provide teachers and schools staff an opportunity to hear about what changes would be made if Bridget was to become the next education secretary. They were able to cover a range of topics from the levels of child poverty, school funding, the SEND crisis, recruitment and retention, Ofsted, workload, support staff and curriculum reforms. We were delighted to welcome Bec Hill as a guest on the Podcast this week. We talked all about her new book, he innovative stand up routines and her time at school in Australia. In addition to her main career as a stand-up comedian, Australian-born Bec Hill is an award-winning children’s author and television writer.. She has several critically acclaimed live kids shows under her belt and is a series regular on the dog ate my homework. After writing on the amazing world of Gumball, she was approached by Disney to write, produce and direct a short animation called scoring pointes. She has since written for numerous live-action and animated tv shows aimed at young viewers, including a new CITV arts and crafts series (which she will also host) called Makeaway Takeaway. We were delighted to welcome Tom Fletcher as a guest on the Podcast this week. We originally recorded this interview back in August when Mr P was on holiday. In the interview, we talk all about his new book and Tom's time in school. Tom Fletcher is a number one bestseller and one of the UK's most popular children's authors. The Christmasaurus was the biggest debut middle-grade novel of 2016 and was shortlisted for a British Book Award. Since then Tom has published several more chart-topping children's novels including The Creakers, The Christmasaurus and the Winter Witch and the instant number one bestseller The Danger Gang. Tom also writes the incredibly successful Who's in Your Book? picture book series and is one half of the author duo behind The Dinosaur that Pooped picture book series too, which has sold over 1.5 million copies. For older readers, Tom co-authors the Eve of Man series with his wife Giovanna Fletcher. Tom's books have been translated into thirty-five languages and to date, he has sold over 5 million copies of his books around the world. His debut novel, The Christmasaurus is currently being developed by The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey into an animated, feature-length movie with original songs written by Tom.
