Is this just a deflection to Protect Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy? If not, then the question becomes is Jon Favreau really fit to write for episodic TV?

Welcome to another retro roundtable. For this roundtable we have become legend…. Legends of the Fall, that is. Turk and I always talk about how they don’t make movies like they used to anymore. To be honest we can’t remember the last time a film could hold a person, so spell bound. Well, the 1994 tragic and heartbreaking love story ‘Legends of the Fall’ does this to perfection. Not only are the characters in this movie engaging and vividly portrayed by the cast such as the likes of Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, Julia Ormond, & Aidan Quinn. They also bring an inspired nuance and undertones, that is shame to this day none of the cast received an Oscar consideration for their portrayals. Everything in this movie is haunting, especially the Oscar winning cinematography capturing the beautiful scenery set in the Montana backdrop.

The Back To The Future trilogy has been a childhood favorite for both Turk & I for a long time. Having revisited the first movie for this retro roundtable, it brought us back to a very nostalgic state. I think we can all agree the 80's saw a lot of excellent original fun 'young' films like 'Back to the Future'. What really made these films immensely enjoyable then, and why they're still classics today, is that they really reflected what it was like being a young person in the 80s.....I guess in the 50s too?!. The proof is in the pudding with these movies. They were not just well written, directed, or acted. They were also well executed and most importantly they cut straight to the point. 

Back To The Future is sheer fun with incredible energy! However it still manages to stay a heart felt innocent film basically about family - with some funny interesting but cleaver themes using the Oedipus Rex's story 🤔

What can we say about the acting. Overall everyone in the film is fantastic. Then we have Christopher Lloyd as the over-the-top mad scientist which is just sheer brilliance. Then there is Michael J. Fox as Marty Mcfly. With his brilliant dialogue, natural charisma, and raw energy - he totally owns the role and gives us one the greatest cinematic young heroes ever!

Back to the Future is one of the most enjoyable time-travelling classics. After all these years it still hasn't gotten old. Unfortunately, they don't make them like this anymore but then again I guess we can always just revisit them, right.

There was once a time when going to the latest film at the cinema was a big event outing. These days anytime a big tentpole film is about to be released. The usual feeling is - what social political messages are they going to preach to us this time. It seems Hollywood has forgotten what people love about watching movies and TV shows? The chance to experience pure 'escapism'. Who didn't dream they could fly like Superman around the world, or take up adventures and fight the Evil Empire like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia?

Movie sequels such as Thor Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever should be sure fire hits having people craving to see more of these fan favorite heroes. Instead these movies offer little more than some companies (Disney) or film makers particular social messaging by deconstructing and subverting our expectations on how these characters should be represented. Do we even have to mention Rian Johnson's take on Luke Skywalker in the Last Jedi. Where he took the most hopeful person in the Stars Wars Universe, and made him the most hopeless person who gave up on everyone - who's only purpose in the film is to die.

DC is under new leadership. Warner Bros. Discovery has hired James Gunn as co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios. In their first order of business they decide to cut ties with Henry Cavill as Superman. Henry Cavill is more than just an actor. He is a unique person who has a true passion for fictional universes - DCs Superman, The Witcher, Warhammer. And we think he deserves better.

In this episode we discuss the pros and cons of this big change. Is starting from scratch the kick start DC needs to finally have a cinamatic universe it's characters deserve. Also, we discuss what this could mean for the upcoming film's still yet to be released - Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Flash Point, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. How will this affect audiences excitement going into these films. Is there any point to care? I guess we'll wait and see. Thanks for listening.

The 13 year wait is over. Avatar: The Way of Water is finally here and James Cameron cannot hide all the way on Pandora from our The Good, The Bad, & Ugly Review! We knew before hand this will be one of the most visually innovative films ever. With that said, is this movie more than just a beautiful highly entertaining expensive blockbuster we see released every year?? Or is it one of those movies you must watch in your lifetime - a movie that is beautiful, touching and speaks right into your heart!

Christmas is right around the corner. What better way to celebrate the holidays with a dark, crazy, twisted, inventive, and violent Christmas classic for our Retro Roundtable. Gremlins is the 1984 black comedy horror film directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus.

This movie is greatness in every single way. The movie has it all: style, charm, horror, action, blood, guts, and humor, but it also never gets too overtly slapstick or comical. Don’t get us wrong, the tongue and cheek are still firmly in place. Gremlins in our opinions was among the top echelon of movies from the glorious ‘80’s (that decade was GREAT to be a kid or teenager). We pity the fool who doesn’t appreciate this classic.

 

So, when your washing machine blows up or your TV goes on the fritz, before you call the repair man, turn on all the lights and look under all the beds. ‘Cause you never can tell, there just might be a gremlin in your house. Thanks for listening.

We're going to destroy this podcast just like James Cameron destroyed the box office back in 2009 with a little film called 'Avatar'. Both of us always felt this movie was a visual feast if nothing else. However, after re-watching it again, Avatar remains in its own way a cinematic wonder - which brings the audience as close as ever to actually visiting an alien world. The world of Pandora comes alive so visually, aurally and emotionally that it is in itself the true star of the show! After 12 years we think Avatar is a true event and it does what exactly a movie should be intended to do - it takes us away from our problems and worries for a few hours. Thanks for listening

This movie is quite literally the definition of a cult classic! Which brought a brutal freshness to the Hollywood epic and shows off Scorsese's skills as a master of storytelling combining scale, precision, and spectacle. Highlighted by the scene stealing electrifying performance by Daniel Day-Lewis as Bill the Butcher. Gangs of New York is a must see film that, in decades to come, will only grow in stature and importance!

"Can't Buy Me Love" is a 1987 teen comedy which follows an outcast nerd who secretly pays the most popular girl in school one thousand dollars to pretend to be his girlfriend for a month. If only things could be that simple. 

This movie always stood out to us because it is not only entertaining in the fact that it's funny, but it also has a very useful message. For those who always dreamed to be popular or at the very least be reasonably liked --- at the end of the day the best thing to do is to be nothing but yourself. So, if you're prone to farting episodes just like Big John - don't hold back and let it all out!

Arnold stars as Conan, who was sold into slavery as child after the genocide of his family and people, sets off on an quest to find the evil sorcerer Thulsa Doom who is responsible.

The film is an amazing adventure filled with swords, bizarre creatures, and tons of blood and gore. But, most importantly it is filled with beautiful sexy women and super oiled up muscle flexing dudes kicking ass and taking names!

Brad Pitt is taking a ride on a train, and we got the bullets. Join us as we review this high paced zany action/comedy by director David Leitch. A film about five assassins on a fast moving bullet train who come to find out their missions have something in common. Does this movie hold up to the likes of John Wick or Kill Bill? Find out!

Turk & Raz engage in detail analysis and discussion of their fondness for the wacky world of professional wrestling. From the time we first discovered it, the best historical moments (How did watching Wrestlemaina 2 lead to Raz destorying his parents TV), and to this day why does Wrestling still have a strangle on the cultural zeitgeist?! We also then discuss 'The Iron Claw', a film which delves into the tragic story of the Von Erich family. It's an emotionally haunting film that is going to stick with you for a while, especially if you don't know the history? Director Sean Durkin crafts an unfathomably tragic story and tells it with needed grace and tenderness. Zac Efron gives his best performance to date as the eldest living brother - seeing the loss and tragedy through his eyes is touching and heart breaking all at the same time. The supporting cast is flawless, except for the person who portrayed Ric Flair. A broom in the closet could of given a way better performance, just saying. The Iron Claw is a beautiful gut-wrenching film -- telling a tragic story of brotherhood, love, pain, expectations, favouritism, and legacy. We both found ourselves heartbroken by the tragedies portrayed on screen, yet incredibly moved by the brotherhood these characters shared. We are not promised tomorrow. This movie revolutionized the way we looked at and experience superheroes. What made Superman special from the get go was it took the material serious, but it also remembered to still have fun and excitement to it. And still to this day Superman the movie's greatest contribution is it proved it was possible to make a big budget blockbuster based on a superhero comic book!
