Shauna and George Tiaffay were seen as a picture perfect couple, and they were genuinely happy until having a child and the financial crisis really changed George’s demeanor. One day in 2012, after separating, George brought their daughter over to Shauna’s house to get something, and the two found her lying dead on the floor, clearly brutally beaten. The following week was extremely stressful on Shauna’s family, as everything in the investigation really picked up speed. But they had a feeling that George wasn’t innocent as he claimed to be.

April Kauffman was described as part princess, part bulldog… She was beautiful, funny, charismatic, generous, incredibly philanthropic, and would stop at nothing to give back to the causes she believed in. One of the things she believed in most was helping Veterans. Her passion for helping Veterans is what drew her to Jim Kauffman, her third husband. But after 10 years of marriage, she wanted out. After finding out he lied about being a veteran and that he was running an illegal pill mill with a local motorcycle gang, April asked for a divorce. But rather than risk losing half of his net worth, Jim paid someone in that motorcycle gang to murder her. After years of her case going cold, her daughter pushed for justice and ultimately landed those responsible behind bars, thanks, in part, to a member of the gang who snitched.

On August 1, 2018, Mary Katherine Higdon was at home with her boyfriend Steven Freeman. Higdon says she was simply handing her boyfriend one of their guns, when it went off in her hands, shooting him. She also alleges that she didn’t know there was a bullet in the chamber. Evidence at the crime scene makes it look more like some sort of fight was going on at the house right before the shooting. Eventually, Higdon confessed to the crime, but the recording taken at the police station had corrupted, and was unusable.

In 2010, Ali Lowitzer stepped off the school bus to go to work, and was never seen again. After police mishandled this case every step of the way, and didn’t take the Lowitzers seriously, the family decided to take the search into their own hands.
