| 66. Why Radiohead’s Man of War (1997) is Great! | 02 Aug 2022 | 00:18:24 | |
HIDDEN PRIME CUTS POD: Radiohead’s OK Computer is one of the greatest albums of all time. The B-sides to its singles were also great. And guess what? On its 20th anniversary reissue, OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017, the unreleased tracks were great too. Perhaps the pick of the bunch was Man of War. So here’s an episode to critique it!
Interesting fact: This could have been the theme song to the 2015 James Bond movie Spectre.
Guests are Davie Melon & Ross Braidwood.

HIDDEN PRIME CUTS POD: “Been here before, a long time ago, but this time I wear no sandals…”
So starts Queen’s ’’Mad The Swine’, a song recorded in 1972 that lay in the vaults until 1991. TTMF hosts Stephen & Paul Nicholson have been fans of it since hearing it on the B-side to ’Headlong’. In this episode, they discuss the merits of the song; its overt religious themed lyrics; if it was worthy of a place on Queen‘s debut album; and where it would fit.

| 62. Why Moby’s Love of Strings (2002) is Great! | 23 Jun 2022 | 00:34:01 | |
HIDDEN PRIME CUTS: Podcast host Stephen first heard Moby’s 2002 track “Love of Strings”, the b-side to “Extreme Ways”, for the first time last year, and was immediately enamoured with it. Will episode guests Ross Braidwood & Davie Melon concur with him that it’s a great track? Listen on as the guys critique the song, discuss seeing Moby live, and recommend some further Moby listening. AND, Davie drops the bombshell that he’s somehow never heard Moby’s 1997 interpretation of the “James Bond Theme”!

| 59. Radiohead’s KID A MNESIA Revisited (2000 / 2001) | 19 May 2022 | 00:56:42 | |
We did a ‘What If?’ episode last year focussing on Radiohead’s Kid A & Amnesiac albums. In that, we debated which songs would make a single vinyl version of a joint album. Since then, KID A MNESIA has been released. We wanted to revisit the albums & the new bonus material to see if any songs were worthy of a spot on our TTMF Supercut. So, here we are! | The ‘Nearly’ Unedited Full Conversation with Eric & Eric from the ‘Face The Music: An ELO Song~By~Song Podcast’ | 13 May 2022 | 00:31:04
Despite A LOT of technical difficulties, TTMF hosts Stephen & Paul Nicholson had a great time talking with Eric & Eric from the ’Face The Music: An ELO Song-By-Song Podcast’, as part of their ELO ‘Out of the Blue’ episode. As some of the conversation had to hit the cutting room floor due to time, including nuggets like Eric PJ‘s story about missing seeing ELO live; and Eric W’s concert butt observations; the boys decided to release the full, (almost) unedited conversation for your listening pleasure. | 58. E.L.O.'s Out of the Blue (1977) - Should It Have Been A Single Album? | 05 May 2022 | 01:36:31
‘Out of the Blue’ was a huge success for E.L.O. back in 1977. A double album which included the hit singles Mr Blue Sky & Turn To Stone, it remains the band’s best seller. But would it have been better as a single vinyl, under 50 minute album?
That’s the question podcast hosts Stephen & Paul Nicholson ask, as they, along with their guests, critique the album & create the TTMF Supercut of it. Look out for ELO jokes; what was going on in 1977; archive interview clips; and facts about the band & album.
Guests are Eric & Eric from the Face The Music: An Electric Light Orchestra Song-By-Song Podcast; and Pablos guitarist & vocalist Paul Murphy.
Look out for a bonus episode containing the (almost) unedited conversation we had with Eric & Eric.

| 57. Stone Roses’ Second Coming (1994) - Is It As Bad As People Say? | 21 Apr 2022 | 01:38:00 | |
Trimming The Musical Fat hosts Stephen and Paul Nicholson don’t like The Stone Roses. So, when friend Mark Poole suggested the trimming the Manchester bands much maligned second, and final album, Second Coming (1994), they were reluctant. However, with the support of Roses fans, Mark, Davie Melon & Ross Braidwood, a deep dive of the album has been completed & an under 50 minute cut of it has been created! Are they converts? Or do they still dislike the band? What do the podcast guests think of the album nearly 30 years after its original release? Listen now to find out!
There‘s also time for jokes; a 12 year olds thoughts on Love Spreads; info on what was happening in 1994; and discussion about when the band should have called it a day.

| 56. Bon Jovi's Keep The Faith (1992) - Is it too long? | 07 Apr 2022 | 01:18:51 | |
‘Keep The Faith’ is arguably Bon Jovi’s most important album. Released in 1992, as alternative rock started to rule the airwaves, the band needed to redefine their sound for a new decade (& get some haircuts!). And with sales of nearly 9M, their ‘faith’ was rewarded.
As original CD buyers of the album on release, podcast hosts Stephen & Paul Nicholson take a trip back in time to revisit the album on its 30th anniversary. Was it too long? Did it suffer a second half dip? What are the best songs on it? Why was the excellent ‘Save a Prayer’ only a bonus track? Which tracks would make an under 50-minute, single vinyl version of the album? All this and more are discussed in the episode.

HIDDEN PRIME CUTS POD: Did you know that John Lennon’s first version of ‘I’m Losing You’ was recorded with Cheap Trick? Sadly, this more raucous version of the song lay in the vaults until 1998. Should it have been included on Lennon’s 1980 ‘Double Fantasy’ album?

| 49. Phil Collins’ But Seriously (1989) - Is it too long? | 10 Feb 2022 | 01:13:47 | |
5 ft 6 Phil Collins was a GIANT music star. Only Michael Jackson & Madonna sold more than him in the 1980s. His last album of that decade, ‘…But Seriously (1989)’, sold more than 21M copies. The previous release, ‘No Jacket Required (1985)’, sold 25M. So why is he not talked about and remembered in the same reverential way as those other mega-selling artists?
Paul & Stephen discuss this while critiquing each song on the album to create an under 50 minute cut of it. Along the way they’ll tell some Phil Collins jokes, play archive interview clips, reminisce about seeing him play live in 1992 & 1994, and give their opinion on when he should have called it a day to preserve his artistic legacy.
What are you waiting for?! Listen now!

| 46. Prince’s Diamonds & Pearls (1991) - Is it too long? | 14 Jan 2022 | 02:28:08 | |
Diamonds & Pearls (1991) was an important album for Prince. After the critical & commercial disappointment of the Graffiti Bridge (1990) album & movie, a refocused Prince returned with a new sound & band (The NPG) to deliver his biggest selling album since Purple Rain. But, at 66 minutes, was it too long?
Stephen & Paul, plus special guest Marv from Pods Like Us, take a look back on the album & each track on it to create an under 50 minute cut of D & Ps. Each will be fighting for the tracks they want. Let battle commence!

| 34. John Lennon 1980 - 1984: Watching The Wheels | 29 Oct 2021 | 01:50:10 | |
WHAT IF POD: What if John Lennon didn’t release the album ‘Double Fantasy’ in 1980? What if he wasn’t tragically murdered in December of that same year? What if he continued recording into 1981 & released new material then? What if he called that album ‘Watching The Wheels’? And all the songs on the album were his (no Yoko)? What songs would make the cut for an under 50 minute album?
That’s the scenario we’ve given ourselves as we take a look at Lennon’s ‘Double Fantasy’ & 1984’s ‘Milk & Honey’. Along the way, we’ll critique each song; share some interesting facts; and play archive interview clips. We also draft in a HUGE Lennon fan: Our Dad! And ask him what it was like hearing that fateful news in Dec 1980 & what made John Lennon his hero.
Our guest is The Pablos’ singer & guitarist, Paul Murphy.

All this and more is discussed in the episode as we try to agree upon an under 50 minute cut of the album whilst discussing its merits. Hear archive interviews; Oasis’ Liam Gallagher’s thoughts; 1970 in review; 3 minute questioning; jokes; a discussion on Harrison’s career lull; Rocky singing; and even Olivia Newton John gets a mention twice!!

| 25. Paul McCartney 1981 - 1984 (Pipes of War on Broad Street) | 26 Aug 2021 | 02:08:27 | |
WHAT IF POD: What if, instead of releasing 3 albums between 1982 - 1984, Paul McCartney retreated to the recording studio after the death of John Lennon in December 1980 & didn’t release any new material until ‘84? He’d have a wealth of material to choose from to make a great single album (Pipes of War on Broad Street?). What would make the cut?
Welcome to the first of our ‘What If’ episodes where we rewrite the music history of musicians we love & engage in lively debate to agree on the track listing of an ‘alternative’ album. Along the way we’ll listen to archive interviews with Paul & TV news from that period.
Our guest for this episode is Paul Murphy.
Hosts are Stephen & Paul Nicholson.

HIDDEN PRIME CUTS POD: In the first of our ‘Hidden Prime Cuts’ mini-episodes, we travel back to 1984 & the B-side of Queen’s classic single, Radio Ga Ga - ‘I Go Crazy’. Why did this great rocker not feature on the band’s 1984 album ‘The Works’? Hell, why was it not a single itself?! What’s so good about it? What unreleased tracks from that time period deserved better? All this & more are discussed by huge Queen fans, Stephen & Paul.

| 23. Trimming Bruce Springsteen’s The River (1980) - Part 2: A Discussion | 13 Aug 2021 | 01:07:14 | |
Should ‘The River’ have been a single album release rather than a double? The podcast team is split on it. Listen as we critique each song on the album, decide on the tracks that will make the < 50 minute TTMF Supercut of it, and ultimately decide which version we prefer. We also discuss if The Boss should have hung up his 6 string by now (no!). And guest Davie Melon makes some album recommendations for those who want to do a deeper dive into Springsteen’s back catalogue ** Apologies for the variable quality of Davie’s audio throughout **Like the podcast?
