Nicaragua 5: Chicken Buses & Colonial Streets: A Journey to Grenada20 Dec 202500:13:47

In this final Nicaragua episode, Laura travels to Granada the way so many locals do—by chicken bus. These colorful, chaotic former U.S. school buses are an experience in themselves, and the journey from Ometepe to Granada is filled with market noise, snack vendors, seat strategy, and a healthy dose of travel nostalgia.

Once in Granada, Laura wanders the relaxed colonial streets of one of the oldest cities in the Americas, founded in 1524 and shaped by its proximity to Lake Nicaragua. Along the way, we dive into the city’s layered history—from Spanish colonization to ambitious canal plans that never fully materialized, including the long-debated alternative to the Panama Canal. This episode blends solo travel moments with big-picture history, all set against the backdrop of one of Nicaragua’s most beautiful cities.

Nicaragua 4: No Gas Gauge, No Problem: My Ometepe ATV Adventure13 Nov 202500:22:45

Getting around Ometepe Island in Nicaragua isn’t as simple as it looks on a map — and sometimes the best way to explore is to grab the handlebars and go. In this episode, I take you along for the ride as I trade mountain hikes for an ATV adventure around the volcanic island. From bumpy unpaved roads to unexpected rainstorms and delicious street food, it’s a day of freedom, mud, and a few surprises along the way.

When the gas gauge doesn’t function, things get interesting. Join me as I navigate Ometepe’s wild beauty, learn the local rhythm of travel, and discover how running out of gas can be empowering.

Bolivia: Potosi, Uyuni, Sucre & La Paz – Mines, Salt Flats & High-Altitude Adventures19 Jul 202400:26:59

In this episode, Laura takes you on what might be her most bizarre adventure yet: venturing deep into a working silver mine in Potosi, Bolivia. Past a smoking shrine to the local god Tio, she descends into perforated rock with nothing but coca leaves and 192-proof alcohol to keep her nerves steady. This gritty story reveals the harsh realities of life inside the mine, including its history and the people who work there under dangerous conditions. Beyond Potosi, Laura explores Bolivia’s incredible landscapes—from the otherworldly Salar de Uyuni salt flats to the sacred waters of Lake Titicaca—and the cultural highlights of Sucre and the dizzying heights of La Paz. Adventure, history, and unforgettable experiences await in this eye-opening episode.

Nicaragua 3: Exploring Ometepe Island’s Wildlife by Kayak03 Nov 202500:20:50

In this episode of Travel Along with Laura, we’re back on the volcanic island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua.  This time, we head to the lowlands between the two volcanoes to kayak along the Río Istian, where the wildlife is on display- howler monkeys calling from the trees, caimans gliding below the surface, toothy tropical gars submerged in the muck and the curious song of the Tungara frog echoing through the dusk.

Along the way, we'll walk to a mountainside ecolodge, hear about Laura's ongoing truce with Google Maps, and get a glimpse into rural life on the island. Plus, we’ll dive into the legend of Lake Nicaragua’s freshwater sharks through a catchy song written by Raúl Planas—an ode to a creature that may or may not still haunt these waters.

Italy 1: Rome – The Eternal City, One Bite at a Time21 Nov 202300:46:17

Come along with Laura and her kids as they dive headfirst into the chaos and charm of Rome! From the moment we landed, jet lagged and dragging our suitcases through streets full of cars, motos, and sirens, Rome made itself known. We explore the Colosseum, try to imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago, and brave the crowds at the Trevi Fountain—coins in hand, hoping to guarantee our return. Along the way, we taste the classics of Roman cuisine, from Cacio e Pepe to Suppli, and learn that Italian food really is about simple, quality ingredients. Expect a little adventure, a lot of history, and plenty of moments where we just sit back, eat gelato, and watch the city come alive.

Thailand 3: Monk Chats, Buddhist Rules & A Lesson in Mindfulness in Chiang Mai21 Aug 202200:46:29

What’s it like to spend a couple days with a Buddhist monk? In Chiang Mai, I signed up for a meditation retreat that didn’t go quite as planned, but turned into one of the most fascinating experiences of my trip. From learning about the 227 monk rules to chatting about love, trees, and kindness, this episode dives deep into Thai Buddhism and mindfulness.  Then, with Gayle Lennox as my guest, we'll also talk about the many ways to learn about Buddhism and meditation in and around this city in Northern Thailand.

Thailand 2: Chiang Mai: From the Old City Walls to Ethical Elephant Encounters15 Aug 202200:32:20

Chiang Mai is a city of temples, night markets, and endless food—plus one of the best elephant encounters I could have imagined. Life here moves at a gentler pace than Bangkok, but adventures still abound: from riverside meals and wandering temples, to nights of live music, intense Thai massages, and walking with elephants through the jungle. This northern gem truly captured my heart.

Panama 4: My San Blas Adventure — Tiny Islands, Sandbars & Bonfire Nights06 Jul 202200:32:42

In this episode, I head to the remote San Blas Islands—also known as Guna Yala—for a two-day escape on one of the most beautiful stretches of sand I’ve ever seen. I share what it’s really like to visit these tiny, palm-dotted islands with an organized tour, from the early-morning 4x4 ride through the jungle to island-hopping, sandbars, simple beach cabins, and a hilariously unforgettable bonfire night with travelers from around the world. If you’re choosing between San Blas and Bocas del Toro, or just wondering what to expect, this episode breaks down the vibe, the logistics, and everything I learned along the way.

Panama 3: Life in the Crater — The Magic of El Valle de Antón22 Jun 202200:20:05

In this episode, I head to El Valle de Antón—an entire town nestled inside the world’s largest inhabited volcanic crater. Just a few hours from Panama City, El Valle feels like a cool-air escape: ringed by mountains, filled with hiking trails, orchids, quiet streets, and weekend visitors from the city. I share what it’s like to get here by public transport, my sunset hike up Cerro Cara Iguana, wandering town the next morning, visiting the orchid nursery and artisanal market, and why this peaceful crater town is the perfect mountain break during a Panama trip.

Panama 2: Bocas del Toro — Island Hopping, Bat Caves & Caribbean Chaos04 Apr 202200:35:42

Bocas del Toro became one of the most unexpectedly emotional stops of my trip. I flew in over turquoise water, wandered Bocas Town, then hopped a water taxi—spotting dolphins on the way—to a hillside jungle hostel that felt like a dream. In this episode, I share the rhythm of island life: the treehouse rooms, the dinners where strangers become friends, the jungle hikes, the quiet Christmas Day, the chaotic Christmas Eve, and my absolutely-not moment with the giant waterslide. I talk through the different islands, the people I met, and the bat cave adventure that still makes me laugh. If you’ve ever wondered what Bocas really feels like, this is it.

Panama 1: Casco Viejo, Great Food & The Panama Canal — A Panama City Guide07 Feb 202200:38:23

Panama City hit me fast—heat, confusion, unexpected charm, and the absolute thrill of seeing the Panama Canal for the first time. In this episode, I take you through my messy, wonderful first days: staying at Selina in Casco Viejo, joining a walking tour that totally changed how I saw the city, figuring out safe areas (and accidentally wandering into ones that weren’t), and tasting ceviche at the fish market. And yes… the metro, the face masks, solo travel and the heat stroke moment all make an appearance.

Morocco 4: Exploring Morocco’s Ancient Cities — Fez, Marrakesh & a Hammam Bath06 Dec 202100:40:30

Marrakesh and Fez may both be ancient cities, but their personalities couldn’t be more different. In Marrakesh, I navigated the chaos of Djema el Fna and learned how to avoid hassle as a solo traveler. In Fez, I explored with my new friend Mohammed, who showed me the city and introduced me to hidden cafés on motorcycle rides through the new town. The highlight of the episode is my intense, humbling, and utterly transformative Hammam bath experience—exfoliation, mud masks, laughter, and connection with other women in a ritual stretching back millennia. Finally, I take you on a day trip to Volubilis and Meknes, adding history and adventure to the sensory immersion of Morocco.

Morocco 3: Night Train, Chefchaouen & Eid in Morocco — Solo Adventures on the Blue Streets07 Nov 202100:32:53

Taking the night train from Marrakesh to Tangier, then onward to Chefchaouen, I experienced Morocco from a new perspective—alone, off the beaten path, and during Eid Al-Adha. From cozy train bunks and mint tea at night to chaos at the taxi stand, sheep markets filling the streets, and deserted medina alleys, I navigated uncertainty and solo travel challenges. Chefchaouen’s striking blue streets, peaceful medina, and unexpected moments of quiet became a perfect refuge for reflection, beautiful photos and discovering the city at my own pace.

Morocco 2: Sahara Desert Adventure — Camels, Dunes & Desert Nights06 Sep 202100:38:38

The Sahara Desert is everything you imagine—and more chaotic, windy, and surreal. In this episode, I recount my journey from Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains, the ancient city of Ait Benhaddou, Dades Gorge, and Todra Valley, finally arriving at Merzouga. I share the terrifying, exhilarating camel trek across sand dunes, the wind pelting my face and packing sand into every crevice, the desert camp with Berber music, and climbing a dune that may have let me glimpse Algeria. Sleeping under the stars, eating tagine in the desert, and riding back in a car over dunes I’ll never forget—this is the Sahara like I experienced it, raw and unfiltered.

Morocco 1: Solo Travel: From Mosques to Medinas: Casablanca and Essaouira 21 Aug 202100:32:53

Casablanca and Essaouira couldn’t be more different, yet each captured me in its own way. In Casablanca, I wandered the modern streets, marveled at the Hassan II Mosque, and tasted camel and lamb grilled to perfection. Then I headed to Essaouira, where my first impressions were equal parts awe and fear—getting oriented in the medina, exploring the ramparts and port, and wandering the labyrinthine streets until I felt like I had the city in my head. I share the joy of meeting travelers and locals alike at the Atlantic Hostel, language mix-ups, and the unforgettable generosity of Momo. Two days may seem short, but these cities left an impression I’ll never forget.
