The Essential Albums Volume 4 Epilogue (David Bowie & Queens Of The Stone Age) [Re-Upload]06 Apr 202500:43:57

(This episode has been re-edited & re-uploaded because apparently Spotify just thinks Fair Use is complete bullshit and doesn't care that the content in this episode falls under Fair Use, so now the episode has been butchered and is almost nonsensical at times because nothing matters anymore.)

Our Essential Albums season premiere went into overtime! We just didn't have enough time to share all of our essential album picks with you, dear listener, necessitating the creation of this extended addendum for your listening pleasure. So what are our final essential picks? 1998's self-titled debut album from desert rockers Queens of the Stone Age and 1987's Never Let Me Down From David Bowie. Hear us talk about these two beloved albums for a long time by listening to this exciting new episode at your leisure.

What are your essential albums? Tell us all about it! CLICK HERE to visit the official TRAPPO blog and tell us in a comment, or CLICK HERE to send us those thoughts in an email, which we would certainly appreciate. We're also on Threads, so CLICK HERE to follow us there, and we'll probably follow you back. We also have a Substack, so CLICK HERE to subscribe (for free) to The TRAPPO Town Gazette, and you'll have new editions in your inbox every Wednesday.

Next week we'll kick off our spooky season celebration with a very special episode of TRAPPO's Old Music Showcase! Thanks for listening!

David Gordon Green's "Halloween" Trilogy (2018-2022)28 Oct 202201:22:35

This week, the show that talks about stuff on purpose is taking a closer look at the recent trilogy of Halloween films directed by David Gordon Green that definitively conclude the Michael Myers/Laurie Strode saga once and for all! Again! We're going in-depth on 2018's Halloween, 2021's Halloween Kills, and 2022's Halloween Ends! Does this trilogy of shockers end on a high note? Do they deliver on the terror quotient? Do they find a place in the illustrious TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on? Tune in to find out!

Hellraiser (2022) 21 Oct 202201:24:18

It's spooky season, and so we've decided to record a lengthy chat on the recent Hellraiser reboot for Hulu this week on the show that talks about stuff on purpose! And I do mean lengthy. This week's episode isn't quite our longest yet, but it's very close, so fair warning. We get into a very in-depth and varied discussion that covers all the relevant bases regarding the movie and the franchise in general, so if you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to be spoiled, you might want to skip listening to this episode for now. But for everybody else, get comfortable and join us as we explore the further reaches of experience together...

Join the conversation! Leave a comment on our blog and tell us what you think of the Hellraiser reboot, and while you're at it don't forget to leave some suggestions for future topics. If you're feeling more verbose, a haunted email is always appreciated. And don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for the complete TRAPPO experience.

Thanks for listening!

TRAPPO's Mail Bag #14!14 Oct 202200:30:51

It's the 14th installment of the show that talks about you on purpose! And in this delightful episode we discuss a wide range of topics including the upcoming Willy Wonka prequel directed by the guy behind the recent Paddington movies and The Mighty Boosh, our process behind preparing to record an episode of TRAPPO, the different film adaptations of Frank Herbert's Dune and that adorable pug that just keeps popping up in David Lynch's film, the state of modern science fiction cinema, feedback on Angel Olsen's Whole New Mess, our ceaseless adoration of punk legends The Stooges, controversial opinions on direct-to-video sequels to mediocre theatrical horror movies,  and so much more! Put it in your ears and enjoy the ride!

Join the conversation! Leave a comment on the official TRAPPO blog telling us what you think of the show, and while you're at it leave some topics for future episodes! If you're feeling more verbose, a snazzy email is always appreciated. And don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for the complete experience.

One final note before we part: A Danzig poll was promised before the end of September in this episode, and that never happened. The long-awaited poll will go live on the blog on Tuesday, October 25th. Thanks for listening!

Essential Albums LIGHTNING ROUND! (Re-Upload)06 Apr 202500:48:30

(This episode has been re-edited & re-uploaded because Spotify is a petty little bitch that doesn't understand what Fair Use is and is inexplicably trying to destroy this podcast that statistically speaking nobody listens to, anyway. It doesn't make any rational sense, but the actions of a soulless mega-corporation don't have to make any sense to the little people they enjoy crushing underfoot. Life is funny like that.)

Welcome to season two of the show that talks about stuff on purpose! TRAPPO is back with our next round of essential albums, but we're not just doing the same old boring thing we did to kick off our first season. That would be a waste of time. Instead of doing five albums each, we're each bringing TEN albums to the table in this ridiculously overstuffed LIGHTNING ROUND conversation! We may have gone a little overboard, but we managed to keep things in check this time around, we promise. It's only one episode, and it's under an hour to boot! You can't argue with results like that! So sit back and enjoy yourself. After all, you're back in TRAPPO's warm embrace...

Join the conversation! Visit the official TRAPPO blog and leave a comment on the post of your choosing! Tell us what you think of this latest episode, and while you're there don't forget to share topics for potential future installments of the show. If you're feeling more verbose, a delightful email is always appreciated, and you can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram for the complete TRAPPO experience. Season two is just beginning, and it's going to be amazing, we can tell. There's just something in the air, like electricity. TRAPPO is back!

Thanks for listening!

The New Music Extravaganza! (Rapid Fire Edition) [Re-Upload]07 Apr 202501:12:30

(This episode has been re-edited & re-uploaded because Spotify has chosen to ignore that Fair Use is a real thing, but I don't have a team of lawyers and limitless resources to spend in a protracted legal battle against a monolithic tech corporation, so instead I've been forced to capitulate to the wretched demands of this platform and cut this episode to ribbons. That's about all there is to it. Welcome to hell, kids!)

On this very special episode of Good, Great or Garbage, Dustin & Ky take a closer look at nearly two dozen recent releases, some suggested by listeners, and others suggested by one another, in this rapid fire new music extravaganza! It's a veritable cornucopia of exciting new musical delights for your discerning palates! But that's not the best part, dear listeners. Your intrepid hosts deadlocked on six of these records, meaning they couldn't come to a unanimous decision as to whether or not these releases belonged in the illustrious TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on. So that means it's up to you to cast the deciding votes! Just follow this link to the official poll and decide the fates of the six albums that didn't make the cut! The poll will remain open for the next two weeks and will close on October 7, which is plenty of time for you to listen to all the nominated works and make an informed decision. Links to all the nominated albums are on the blog, so get to work!

This also marks the end of our first complete season, and that's a pretty big deal for us! We never thought we'd make it this far, and we certainly wouldn't have without your support, dear listeners! Thank you so much for all of your insightful comments and emails, which have really given us incentive to keep making the show that talks about stuff on purpose! And we need you to keep it up, so head on over to the official TRAPPO blog and leave us some more comments! Tell us what you think about the first season now that it's in the can, and leave us plenty of suggestions for future topics while you're there! And if you're feeling a bit more verbose, we always appreciate a friendly email! We're also on Instagram and Twitter for all you die-hard fans who just can't get enough TRAPPO !

Thanks for listening, thanks for voting, and we'll see you for season two on October 7th!

TRAPPO's Mail Bag #13!16 Sep 202200:17:40

TRAPPO's Mail Bag has returned for its unlucky 13th installment! And to celebrate this momentous occasion, we're keeping things light with a shorter episode. I know that's not terribly exciting for you, dear listener, but we weren't exactly keeping track of the numbers here. And let's be honest, is the 13th installment of anything really that big a deal? Anyway, this time around we're talking about legendary avant-garde jazz musician Miles Davis, deranged indie rock band Starcrawler, the possibility of a potential TRAPPO's Book Club, a deep dive into Chrystabell's transcendent Midnight Star (again), the blog is visited by infernal royalty, and some other stuff, I guess. Happy 13th mail bag!

Good, Great or Garbage: "Wet Leg" by Wet Leg & "Detritus" by Sarah Neufeld (Re-Upload)06 Apr 202500:42:42

(This episode has been re-edited & re-uploaded because Spotify is a bully that doesn't understand Free Use.)

Good, Great or Garbage is back, dear listener! This time out, we're taking a closer look at 2022's debut album by British indie rockers Wet Leg and 2021's Detritus, an instrumental record from supremely talented violinist Sarah Neufeld. Do either of these albums make the cut? Are they TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on material? Tune in to find out!

The Super-Controversial Live Action Batman Rankings Episode!02 Sep 202200:28:27

This time around, we're trying something a bit different here by taking a closer look at all of the live action Batman movies. All of the live action Batman solo movies, so none of the Zack Snyder stuff here, and no discussion of the various animated incarnations of the Caped Crusader either. But don't lose hope, because those might just be topics of future episodes. Your hosts will each be sharing their personal rankings of all these movies, from worst to first, and as the title suggests, the picks may be a tad controversial in some circles. But we fear no reprisal, so let the bloodbath begin!

Join the conversation! Leave a comment on the official TRAPPO blog telling us your own live action Batman rankings, and while you're there you might as well suggest topics for future episodes, because that's always very much appreciated. If you're feeling more verbose, a friendly email would always be warmly received. And don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for the complete TRAPPO experience.

TRAPPO's Mail Bag #12!26 Aug 202200:23:59

We're opening up TRAPPO's Mail bag once again to address listener feedback! This time around, we're talking about Lyra Pramuk's Fountain, the void in our popular culture with the loss of legendary composer Jim Steinman, the tantalizing connection between delicious French Silk pies and Chrystabell's Midnight Star, robots and their inherent incompatibility with water, the many, many problems with 2020's Castle Freak, and so much more! Actually, that's pretty much it. The second half of the episode is almost entirely dealing with 2020's Castle Freak and its myriad issues. Fair warning.

Join the discussion! Leave us a comment on the official TRAPPO blog and suggest topics for future episodes! You could also send us a groovy email if you're feeling more verbose. And don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for the complete TRAPPO experience. We always appreciate your feedback.

THE DEBATE: "Black Widow" by In This Moment19 Aug 202200:45:45

It's time for a debate! We here at TRAPPO, the show that talks about stuff on purpose, have noticed you dear listeners have been asking us to talk about 2014's Black Widow from alt-metal superstars In This Moment for a while now, and we've finally gotten off our lazy butts and done just that! But we couldn't just handle this particular subject with a standard "spotlight" episode. No, the passion among you all is too big for something so limited. We needed to figure out a way to give you dear listeners the final word, while also keeping things fun for ourselves, so we've decided to hold our first ever TRAPPO Debate! On this very special episode, Dustin has taken the pro-Black Widow stance and Ky has taken the anti-Black Widow position, and we each make our case either for or against the album's inclusion in the illustrious TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on, but the final decision isn't up to us, friends, because you get to choose whose argument reigns supreme! Just follow this link to our official poll and cast your vote today! Do you think Dustin's pro argument won the day, or were you swayed by Ky's con assertion? Vote now and let your voice be heard!

The poll will be open until Friday, August 26th at 3:01 PM Central Daylight Time, so don't delay!

Join the discussion! Tell us what you think about In This Moment's Black Widow on the official TRAPPO blog, and while you're there we always appreciate suggesting topics for future episodes! Who knows? Your suggestion might just become the subject of our next debate! Of course if you're feeling more verbose, sending a lovely email is always an option. And don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for the complete TRAPPO experience!

Thanks for listening, and thanks for voting!

Essential Albums, Volume 4 (SIX SHOOTER!)04 Oct 202401:19:17

The show that talks about stuff on purpose is back with our premiere episode of season four! Can you believe TRAPPO's fourth season is here? We can't! Anyhow, if it's our season premiere, then that must mean it's time for our latest Essential Albums episode. What is that, you may be asking? It's a simple enough premise. The two hosts of TRAPPO each choose a handful of albums (new, old, whatever) that they consider "essential", and those albums are inducted into the TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on. What it the TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on, you may be asking? That's the giant cannon we're constructing at an undisclosed location in the high desert, which we will one day load with all the coolest pop culture ephemera this rotten world has to offer, then we'll blast it into outer space for enlightened extraterrestrials to enjoy. So pretty standard stuff, really.

What essential albums have we chosen for induction this year? You'll have to listen to find out. That's the deal, kids. Would you like to share some of your essential albums with us? It's easy to do! Just follow THIS LINK to the official TRAPPO blog and leave a comment. Tell us what's on your mind. You can also share your essential album picks with us in an email by CLICKING HERE if you're feeling a bit more verbose. We're also on Threads, so CLICK HERE to follow us there, and we'll probably follow you back. We also have a Substack, if that's the sort of thing that floats your boat. CLICK HERE to subscribe to The TRAPPO Town Gazette for free and you'll get new editions in your inbox every Wednesday. That's a pretty good deal. Thanks for listening!

And this week, dear listeners, we're dealing a whole lot of stuff that you're just dying to hear us discuss, including Frank Zappa, old school Saturday Night Live, the atmospheric gothic doom work of Darkher, we go down the Dungeon Synth rabbit hole for a little while, Dustin plays amateur detective and tries to figure out what half-remembered music a listener found on YouTube one night, the past theatrical adaptations of Judge Dredd are discussed, and the tables are turned when the boys suggest a few things to the listeners. It's a lot of fun, so give it a listen!

In this very special edition of TRAPPO's Mail Bag, we address a flurry of listener comments regarding director Rob Zombie's upcoming remake/reboot of classic TV sitcom The Munsters! Why? Why not? It's our show, and if we want to spend 28 minutes talking about the trailer for a movie coming to Netflix in September, we can do that. SPOTLIGHT: All Mirrors (& Whole New Mess) by Angel Olsen (Re-Upload)06 Apr 202500:34:39

(This episode has been re-edited & re-uploaded because Spotify is a bully that doesn't understand Fair Use. Enjoy this butchered spotlight on the work of Angel Olsen, if you can.)

We're back with a brand-new episode of the show that talks about stuff on purpose! This week, we're concluding our two-part listener poll results discussion with a closer look at 2019's All Mirrors by Angel Olsen, as well as 2020's companion release Whole New Mess. We had a lot of fun talking about these two records, and we think you'll have a good time learning a little more about them.

The Ultimate B-52's Mix Tape! (Re-Upload)07 Apr 202500:58:06

(This episode has been re-edited & re-uploaded because Spotify is an asshole that doesn't understand what Fair Use is, so now everything has to suck forever. The content featured in this episode all falls under Fair Use, but don't bother explaining that to these fucking clowns. Just accept that the world is a cesspool of human filth and try to enjoy the truncated episode.)

At long last, after a series of unfortunate delays, it has arrived! The ultimate B-52's Mix Tape is here, with all songs nominated by you, dear listeners! That's right, you chose the songs, not us, so whatever happens next is all your fault! We, of course, are still the ones who decide whether or not the songs you've nominated actually make it onto the mix tape, so don't get too excited. We would be fools to give the listeners absolute power, and TRAPPO's momma didn't raise no fools. Either way, sit back, relax, and let the good vibes of some of the most catchy and up-beat music ever recorded lift your spirits, because we could all use some of that right about now.

It's a very special, super-sized episode of TRAPPO's Mail Bag! This particular episode was long thought to be lost through technical issues, but it has been recently unearthed and edited for your listening pleasure! In this episode, we discuss feedback related to our text review of Lyra Pramuk's Fountain, the recently released adult animated fantasy epic The Spine Of Night, whether or not plants like pop music, the career resurgence of Rebecca Black, the superiority of Perfect Dark over the classic Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64, Wendy O. Williams and her work with Plasmatics as well as the recent release of her trash masterpiece Reform School Girls on blu-ray, how we can all get along despite our differing opinions, and we wrap things up with an extended discussion regarding the work of legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick (with a lengthy Highlander diversion for good measure). You may recall a short time ago we hosted a poll for Crease on the blog, asking you listeners whether Kee Avil's formidable album deserved a place in the esteemed TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on, and the results are in! So does Crease make the cut? Is Caroline good enough for the Can(n)on? Tune in to find out!

TRAPPO's New Music Meltdown!!!27 Sep 202400:50:18

Welcome to the season three finale of the show that talks about stuff on purpose! And this is a very special episode, dear listener.

Very, very, very special.

The episode you're about to hear began as an attempt to record a pair of New Music Showcase episodes... but that's not what it became. We started out trying to have a discussion about Darvid Thor's In The Space You Carry and Nox Novacula's Feed The Fire, but the recording was an unmitigated failure. Not due to the music we chose, but due to our own very human failings.

In an attempt to salvage the recording, something new emerged. Some new and horrifying thing that defies easy classification. It's almost an hour long, and it will test your patience as well as your sanity. Hey, it's the end of the season. What else did you expect?

You can decide the fate of these two albums, dear listener. Just CLICK THIS LINK to visit the official TRAPPO blog and vote in the poll! What poll? The New Music Showcase poll! Do you think these albums belong in the TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on? That's up to you, kids. So vote. While you're there, leave a comment if you'd like. Tell us how terrible this episode truly is. Or you could send us an email. CLICK HERE to do that.

If you'd like to listen to Darvid Thor's In The Space You Carry, then CLICK HERE to visit his Bandcamp. If you'd like to listen to Nox Novacula's Feed The Fire, then CLICK HERE to visit their Bandcamp. They would surely appreciate your patronage.

We've started a Substack, which is apparently a popular thing, so we're happy to jump on this bandwagon. It's called The TRAPPO Town Gazette, and new editions drop each Wednesday. CLICK HERE to visit and subscribe. It's free, and worth it!

We're also on Threads, so if you'd like to follow us there, just CLICK HERE and we'll have a good time. We'll have a time, at least. I suppose promising anything approaching "good" would be irresponsible.

Thanks for whatever. Season four starts next week.

EP Exchange: The Night Suite by Stephan Moccio & Jupiter's Purse by MATTIE27 May 202200:29:09

The results are in! Not too long ago, listeners of TRAPPO were asked to vote on whether Jupiter's Purse by emerging artist MATTIE should be inducted into the TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on, and now it's time to share the final tally with the world! On this episode of the show that talks about stuff on purpose, we're talking about Jupiter's Purse as well as The Night Suite, an EP of gentle piano melodies performed by Canadian composer Stephan Moccio to commemorate World Sleep Day 2022. Did either of these exciting EP's make the cut? Tune in to find out!

Join the conversation! Visit the official TRAPPO blog, find the post of your choosing and leave a comment! Castle Freak (2020)13 May 202200:42:25

In this long awaited episode, Dustin & Ky finally check out 2020's ambitious remake of Castle Freak, produced by Barbara Crampton, star of the 1995 version. Is it any good? The Mack-isode! (Lou Reed, My Chemical Romance, Laurie Anderson, Nina Hagen) [Re-Upload]06 Apr 202501:07:43

(This episode has been re-edited & re-uploaded under protest because Spotify refuses to acknowledge that Fair Use is a real thing, and that this episode's content falls under Fair Use, but they're a careless tech bully that doesn't give a damn about anything but their own bottom line and kicking statistically unknown podcasts like this one right in the fucking teeth.

Enjoy, I guess.)
