David Jones: Failure of experts | Tom Nelson Pod #24127 Aug 202401:05:30

Meteorologist David Jones has been forecasting & broadcasting weather for decades. His passion is communicating weather to decision-makers. For his dedicated service to media and emergency managers in British Columbia, he was awarded the Rube Hornstein Medal for excellence in operational meteorology in 2015.

A keen powder hound, Jones was the Environment Canada lead for a collaboration with Avalanche Canada to help avalanche forecasters better understand the mountain meteorology of British Columbia. Avalanche Canada and Parks Canada avalanche forecasters now leverage the insights of Canadian meteorologists through online weather briefings and a website (https://avalanche.ca/weather/forecast) fed by weather service graphics. For his team’s efforts, Avalanche Canada presented him with their 2015 Service Award.

In retirement, Jones created The Whistler Powder Picker, a daily social media video for hounds. The Picker is a seriously fun and educational 90 second video packed with key information for hard-core skiers, riders, & sledders in the Sea-to-Sky Corridor. Jones uses an unusual ensemble technique – the Super Dave Ensemble - to crush snowfall forecasts while wearing funny hats and delivering a one-of-a-kind service.

Kelvin Kemm: South African electricity and climate realism | Tom Nelson Pod #13716 Aug 202301:07:26

Dr Kelvin Kemm is a Business Strategy Consultant and runs his own company, Stratek, based in Pretoria. He is a nuclear physicist and is a past Chairman of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa).

Dr Kemm started work as a research and development scientist but then moved into the management of technology and became involved in a wide variety of projects in many industrial sectors, giving him wide exposure to a technological and industrial base. He developed high technology systems and frequently went out ‘in the field’ to work on developments first hand. These activities took him into many factories, down mines, into power stations, riding in experimental aircraft and vehicles, and into banking, advertising and marketing systems.

Kelvin Kemm is a great believer in sound strategy development, and he points out that this is far more difficult than it appears on the surface. This includes understanding the psychology of the society within which a technology system must function.

Dr Kemm believes that a healthy economy needs a wide appreciation of the role of technology and how it fits into any strategic plan. Technology is not just the nuts and bolts; it is the entire basis on which any company stands.  It is the proverbial concrete foundation of any enterprise.

He became interested in the public awareness of technology and has written over 1000 popular interest articles in journals, magazines and newspapers, internationally. He has written two books; a public interest book on South African technology: Techtrack - A Winding Path of South African Development and a coffee table book: At the Forefront of Weather.

He has been a Plenary Guest Speaker at the World Nuclear Association in London, and at the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris. He Chaired the opening ceremony of ATOMEXPO in Moscow in 2016, and was a guest speaker at the African Union Economic Summit in Mauritius in 2017. He has been a Guest Speaker in places as diverse as Hanoi, Windhoek and Stockholm. He has also been a speaker at tribal events in the bush, in Venda, Sekhukhuneland and southern Angola. In contrast he has given both Senate and Congressional briefings in Washington DC.

Paul Burgess: Climate Realism | Tom Nelson Pod #13615 Aug 202301:05:08

Paul Burgess B.Sc, MS.C, a retired Chartered Water Resources Engineer was in charge of water resource planning for large sections of the UK and sat on national UK committees. Before he retired he represented the whole of the country of Wales where he was  responsible for planning water supply, flood protection, reservoirs, hydrological and weather monitoring. He built the first mathematical model of the climate back in 1971. Retiring early from the water industry, Paul set up his own business. In the early 2000’s, Paul became aware of the growing corruption of science by the climate alarmists and then started making videos to counter the alarmism. He now has over 80 videos on the subject. He gives talks all over the UK all at his own expense in order to further the cause he feels so passionate about.

Frank G Lasee: The Truth of Energy & Climate | Tom Nelson Pod #12925 Jul 202301:38:53

Cal Abel: Nuclear Power for Human Flourishing | Tom Nelson Pod #12821 Jul 202301:06:40

Cal is the co-founder and CTO of an energy and governance company, Signal Power and Light, with coal mining operations in Northern Alabama and a special governmental zone, ZEDE, in Honduras, ZEDE Orquídea. Cal’s work in governance and energy as a means of addressing global poverty stemmed from his early economic work connecting statistical physics to economics, which has been completed with The Quantum Foundations of Utility and Value. Cal is an accidental engineer, choosing nuclear engineering on a whim because it was hard and seemed interesting. He served 10-years in the nuclear Navy driving submarines, finishing his last tour as the Engineer Officer on the USS Florida (SSGN-728).

Before leaving the Navy, Cal became interested in climate change after watching An Inconvenient Truth. Confused as to why nuclear was not featured prominently, he modeled a nuclear buildout using Small Modular Reactors to repower existing coal stations and then using the nuclear heat to drive Coal to Liquid synthetic fuels. He presented this to the American Nuclear Society in 2010, The Impact of Small Modular Reactors in a Carbon Constrained Economy, and attempted to patent the technology, but later found that there were already many similar patents from the 1970’s. He even tried to pitch the idea to the coal industry in 2012, but it fell on deaf ears.

Thinking that he was on to something and seeing policy as a major hurdle in preventing a nuclear buildout, he went to Georgia Tech to learn more about public policy and to see if he could find a solution, which he managed to do. His doctoral work created the conceptual design of a sodium fast reactor with thermal energy storage replacing the intermediate loop. He showed that by marrying the two technologies, we separate the kinetics of the energy demand from the reactor kinetics (reactor safety) and can confine the regulator’s warrant to just the nuclear island. 7-months after defending his dissertation, TerraPower took the concept and in October 2018 began detailed engineering of what was to become Natrium. While at Georgia Tech, and in response to Fukushima, Cal suggested to the world that we use concrete pump trucks to refill the spent fuel pools instead of helicopters.

Cal’s current work is revitalizing and adapting the Karrick Process to the swelling coals of the Eastern United States, his company has finished the conceptual design of the pilot facility and will start construction in the near future and hopes that one day he will be able to marry this technology with a nuclear reactor. He has also extended his theoretical economic work and shown the relationship of energy and value with Bitcoin (soon to be published) and for the entire US economy (unpublished). Having developed actual technologies that increase energy access and reduce carbon intensity, he sees the entire global warming policy complex as a scam to give away tax dollars and create fake assets for traders to manipulate.

Coal is not the enemy, bad policy and insufficient energy access are.

Meredith Angwin: Shorting the Grid | Tom Nelson Pod #12513 Jul 202301:10:27

As a working chemist, Meredith Angwin headed projects that lowered pollution and increased reliability on the electric grid. Her work included pollution control for nitrogen oxides in gas-fired combustion turbines, and corrosion control in geothermal and nuclear systems.

She was one of the first women to be a project manager at the Electric Power Research Institute. She led projects in renewable and nuclear energy.

In the past ten years, she began to study and take part in grid oversight and governance. For four years, she served on the Coordinating Committee for the Consumer Liaison Group associated with ISO-NE, her local grid operator. She teaches courses and presents workshops on the electric grid.

Meredith's newest book release - Shorting the Grid, The Hidden Fragility of Our Electric Grid is an exposé of the insider-ruled practices of the “deregulated” areas of the United States electric grid. Shorting the Grid shows the hidden problems caused by lack of accountability on the grid. Americans need to pay attention to how the grid is managed. Hopeful speeches will not keep the lights on. If you assume that the lights will go on when you flip a switch, you need to read this book.

Meredith has been keynote or featured speaker at several nuclear events, including keynote at the worldwide Nuclear Science Week in 2018.

She and her husband George live in Vermont. They have two children and four grandchildren who live in the New York City area.

Alexander Pohl: The Green Industrial Complex | Tom Nelson Pod #22907 Jul 202401:07:34

Former London banker Alexander Pohl worked for years for one of the world’s greenest banks. Idealistically driven, he financed big wind and solar farms, genuinely convinced he was making the world a better place.

Gradually, he woke up to the fact that today’s green is a broken system. He gave up banking and emigrated with his family to his little forest paradise in remote, northern Sweden. The dream was to get back to Nature, start an eco-farm and put as much distance as he could between his family and the industrialization of nature.

Until a wind park was planned at the gates of his paradise garden.

Soeren Hansen: Why wind and solar will not work | Tom Nelson Pod #11001 Jun 202300:52:22

I have a master's degree in chemical engineering, and have worked in the Danish industry for all of my career. I got involved with the environment in connection with my employment and prepared courses for our staff over many years. This led gradually to an interest in the climate issue, which I have been following for the past some 10 years. I retired in late 2019 and thereupon devoted most of my time on the climate and renewable energy issues. I got involved with the Danish Climate Realism Association and have for the past 3 years been the editor of the Association's web page: klimarealisme.dk, as well as being a member of the Board.

The web page is uniquely in the Danish language, everything we publish is written in Danish or translated.

Besides writing and editing articles for the web page I engage in giving presentations on climate issues, whenever anyone is interested. I am also the author of a book on the renewable energy transition (why it will fail) and a dystopic novel set in 2050 where Denmark has reached the vaunted net-zero emissions status - at tremendous cost to the ordinary people.

Tony Thomas: Don't trust the media on climate | Tom Nelson Pod #10824 May 202300:43:36

TONY THOMAS has been a journalist in Australia since 1958 when he went straight from school at 18 to The West Australian newspaper, doing news and light features. He concurrently studied literature at university for eight years. In 1971 he switched to Economics coverage in the federal press gallery in Canberra, and a decade later he moved to Melbourne writing for the magazine Business Review Weekly for 20 years. He retired from paid journalism in 2001 but continues writing for the right-of-centre blog Quadrant Online. In the past ten years his output there has been 450-plus essays totalling about a million words. All up he’s been reporting for 65 years.

He’s authored close to a dozen books on anthropology, business, history, current affairs and climate, including five collections of his Quadrant essays in the past six years. See

https://www.connorcourtpublishing.com.au/Tony-Thomas_bymfg_59-0-1.html

Tony’s style is  forensic and often humorous. He figures the most effective weapon against climate  cultists is to ridicule them via their own overblown words and nonsense — with academics as one of his favourite targets. He continues to be amazed at how much incriminating material the climate cultists publish to their own detriment.

Tony turns 83 in June 2023 but has still not reached Shakespeare's finale of "second childishness and mere oblivion;

Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.”

Preferred pronouns: Ze, Hir, Zir.

“Ze is a writer and wrote that book zirself. Those ideas are zirs. I like both zir and zir ideas.”

Tony’s Quadrant work: https://quadrant.org.au/?s=%22tony+thomas%22

Harry Decker: Climate realism from a longtime Arizona resident | Tom Nelson Pod #10314 May 202300:25:42

After graduating from high school, HARRY DECKER spent ten years in the U.S. Air Force working with computers in military intelligence. He has lived in ten different states and took college classes in five of them. He never completed a college degree, however, due to changing his mind about his career. He has attended various technical schools over the years to keep up with the changing industry. In civilian life, he worked as a computer operator, programmer, technical writer, and tech support specialist for various companies such as Maricopa County, St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Information Network Corporation, and Charles Schwab International. His hobby at one time was tournament chess, but he dropped that and took up creative writing and filmmaking. He had a short story published five years ago titled “A. I. Gone Amok,” a fictional tale about the dangers of artificial intelligence and that the deep state was planning on releasing a virus that would kill millions. Now retired, he writes and directs plays. And he’s working on a short film. He has also written numerous technical reports over the past three years that challenge climate alarmist claims and the green agenda.

Iain Davis: Sustainable Debt Slavery | Tom Nelson Pod #10109 May 202300:50:25

Iain Davis is an author, blogger, researcher and short film maker. You can read more of Iain's work at his blog IainDavis.com. Iain is a former substance misuse counsellor and worked for many years in the health and social care sector. Following redundancy, Iain focused on his passion for research and journalism, obtaining a vocational (CPD) qualification as a journalist. Iain now lives and works on the south coast of England, and when he's not writing, he toils on his allotment, after someone told him it would be fun.

Iain wrote: I published my first book ‘A Dangerous Ideology’ in 2018 and my second Pseudopandemic in 2021. I also contribute to other news sites including UK Column, Unlimited Hangout and the OffGuardian and my work has been featured by the Corbett Report, James Delingpole and Whitney Webb, among others.
