PHGG for Endo Belly, SIBO, IBS and Gut Dysbiosis

Saison 5 · Épisode 314

vendredi 27 septembre 2024Durée 14:21

Today I want to talk about another short chain fatty acid booster, which also supports long term gut healing and symptom relief, and that’s partially hydrolysed guar gum. PHGG is a soluble fibre derived from the guar bean plant, it is not exactly the same as the food ingredient guar gum. PHGG is broken down by enzymes from guar gum, and dissolves in water. In contrast, guar gum is a thickening agent and too much guar gum in certain foods can cause gut problems, whereas PHGG is recognised as being a supportive, prebiotic fibre and supplement for gut health. Psyllium Husk for IBS and Endo Belly

Saison 5 · Épisode 313

dimanche 22 septembre 2024Durée 17:17

Last week we talked about certain fruits, vegetables, beans and lentils that can boost the short chain fatty acids called propionate and acetate. Alongside butyrate, which you can increase with resistant starch rich foods such as cold oats, green bananas and cooked and cooled potatoes and rice, these guys help to lower inflammation, heal gut issues and may even protect against endo progression. To learn more about the benefits of short chain fatty acids for endo, listen to episodes 312, 311 and 310. Today, I wanted to give you another option if you feel like a lot of the foods I listed last week just aren’t doable for you because of your bloating and IBS symptoms, or if you eat a lot of these foods already, but still suffer with gut problems and endo problems, and would like to take some extra steps to further boost these beneficial short chain fatty acids. Today, we’re talking about psyllium husk, and the benefits of this bad boy are many. Read more. Three Non-Food Related Ways to Manage Blood Sugar

Saison 5 · Épisode 304

jeudi 4 juillet 2024Durée 26:18

Blood sugar is the measurement of glucose in the blood stream at any one time. Glucose comes from complex carbs, like vegetables, beans and whole grains, and simple carbs, like flour, pasta and honey. Complex carbs break down slower in the gut, resulting in a slow but steady drip of glucose to our blood stream, whereas simple sugars break down very quickly and are also typically very high in carbohydrates and so create what we call a blood sugar spike, which simply means your glucose levels in your blood are too high. REPLAY: How To Eat Well for Endo Without the Overwhelm

Saison 5 · Épisode 216

mardi 20 septembre 2022Durée 34:11

We are on the go again this week, preparing for our temporary return to the UK before we head to Sweden for December, so today’s episode is a replay - but one that I think is really relevant because I know so many of you struggle with this. Today I am resharing a very old episode about my story of beginning to change my diet and lifestyle for endometriosis when I first started on this journey, and how I went full throttle and burnt myself out - and then how I scaled back and made changes more sustainably to avoid overwhelm. And just as a heads up, this was recorded before I was finished with my training as a Women’s Health Coach, so I’m not as clued up on nutrition and lifestyle changes in this episode as I am now, but I’ve actually linked to some articles and episodes about nutrition for endo and the key pillars of healing I use with clients, in the show notes. So, let’s get to the show… Original text: It’s really easy, when you’re unwell, to want to fix everything as quickly as possible. When I started managing my endometriosis symptoms, I went full throttle. I changed my diet, my lifestyle, my make up and skin care - everything and anything that could be tweaked or improved to help with endometriosis, I changed. But within a short few months, I was broke and exhausted. I was totally overwhelmed by the amount of information that I was stuffing in my brain, the conflicting information out there on the endometriosis diet and all the noise on natural treatment options. Because I didn’t know what was quality information, I tried everything. My endodiet overwhelm caused me to crash and burn, and I had to work out what was the most important, what were my priorities were in order to create a plan to move forward sustainably. So in this episode, I’m talking about my experience of being totally overwhelmed to having a clear and steady plan to tackle my endo in a manageable way. I’m sharing tips, reflections and practical suggestions you can begin implementing as soon as you’re ready. As a PCOS warrior herself, Rachel knows first hand the struggle to get an accurate diagnosis, life with PCOS symptoms but perhaps most importantly, how to manage and even reverse symptoms. Last month, Rachel came and delivered a private talk to the members of my Live and Thrive membership, and today, to celebrate PCOS Awarenness Month, I’m sharing it with you! Now, just as a heads up, some of this talk has been cut as I wanted to ensure my member’s privacy, and half the talk was a Q&A session. Additionally, Rachel’s talk was delivered with slides so you may hear her from time to time refer to something on the screen, but all the info you need is provided in this audio. In this episode, Rachel and I discuss Here’s what we cover: The definition of PCOS, the associated symptoms and the key causes of the condition. The diagnostic criteria and how to get an accurate diagnosis. The core strategies for managing PCOS and reversing symptoms. Joana Bartlett is an interstitial cystitis warrior, who is thankfully in remission after spending years researching and training in a holistic approach to IC management. She is now a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, specialised in interstitial cystitis and takes a multi-faceted approach to reduce IC symptoms, addressing the whole body, not just the bladder alone. In this episode, Joana and I discuss… Here’s what we cover: Her story of interstitial cystitis and why her journey motivated her to help others experiencing the same chronic pain. The typical symptoms of IC, how it can manifest differently for each person and the various tests for diagnosis. The new subtypes of interstitial cystitis - bladder centric, pelvic floor and chronic overlapping pain conditions - and where endometriosis patients fit into this new type of categorising. The common causes of IC that Joana sees in her practice including low oestrogen, gut health problems, nervous system upregulation and pelvic floor conditions. Why Joana’s approach is whole body rather than bladder specific, and how her work varies with each client - but usually starts with the nervous system! How long IC healing typically takes, and where to start if you’re feeling overwhelmed or are new to Ic. She’s been featured as an expert by Yahoo style, Byrdie and The Huffington Post and with good reason. Cheryl isn’t about quick fixes or skin fads, she’s all about root cause resolution and understanding the science behind skin. In this episode, Cheryl and I discuss hormonal and inflammatory acne and how it can be related to chronic conditions like endometriosis and PCOS, and what the hell we can do about it… Here’s what we cover: The difference between hormonal acne and inflammatory acne and how to know which one is the culprit behind your skin challenges. The key hormonal imbalances behind hormonal acne (testosterone, we’re looking at you) and their common root causes, plus how to resolve them. REPLAY: A Holistic Healing Plan for Endometriosis

Saison 5 · Épisode 211

vendredi 12 août 2022Durée 42:13

We have just arrived in France after a 10 hour journey in 34 degree heat! Wow, was that intense! We’re now getting into our work routine but because we’ve been journeying, I have to squeeze my clients into one day, so can’t record a new episode this week. Instead, I’m reshaping an old episode which is literally providing you with my step-by-step protocol for endometriosis management and healing. I’ve developed this approach after spending seven years working with the endo community and on my own healing journey, and studying with leading specialists such as Dr Jessica Drummond and Dr Allison Siebecker. I hope by sharing some of my core steps, it’ll help you navigate your own healing journey and give you a foundation on which to build your own plan. It’s the 100th episode! To celebrate I’m sharing the foundation steps I take with my clients to create their personalised holistic healing plan for endometriosis. In this episode I share some of my main areas of focus when creating an endo healing plan: Nutrition for endometriosis - ant-inflammatory eating, foods for hormones and blood sugar Gut healing - removing trigger foods, getting to the root problem and gut recovery Restoration - optimising sleep, managing stress and recovering from HPA axis dysfunction Detoxification pathways - hydrate, heal gut, remove toxins Structural support - visceral manipulation, pelvic floor physiotherapy, good surgery Cycle syncing - tracking with Fertility Awareness Method, eating for the different phases and syncing your life and movement Supplements - when to use supplements shown to target endometriosis, period pain and inflammation Remember, everyone is different and your healing has to tailored to you - your life, your body and your needs. Take from this what feels right for you in this moment and don’t worry about the rest! REPLAY: Anti-inflammatory Living

Saison 5 · Épisode 210

lundi 1 août 2022Durée 51:42

We are moving (to France!) and so today’s episode is a replay of a very early episode, that some of you may have not yet listened to! I see chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation a lot in our community - so I really encourage you to listen to this episode because healing is more than nutrition and supplements. If you were eating a totally anti-inflammatory diet but you were experiencing chronic stress, would that have an impact on your pain levels? My answer? It’s very, very likely. There are two key factors that cause further inflammation in our bodies when it comes to our lifestyle. Stress, tension and danger signals are often experienced in two places in the body: the neck and shoulders, and the pelvic floor. The body is trying to protect the vital organs in the pelvis and abdomen and so in response to stress, our body believes there’s danger and clenches and tightens the pelvic floor. This creates further pain, nerve sensitivity, muscle and organ dysfunction and distortion and ultimately up-regulates inflammation as a result. The brain is designed to recognise stress and danger signals as a priority because it’s programmed to keep us safe. Because of this, it’s much easier and quicker for the body to recognise danger signals and to send these signals (which can translate to pain signals) to the brain. Stress and danger signals actually cause heightened pain levels because your body is hyper sensitive and is hyper aware of any indications of threat, and so will send pain signals to let you know something is wrong. In this episode I’m going to dive into how to create more SIMS (safety in my system signals) in your every day life to calm down your nervous system and ultimately calm down that inflammatory response.
