mardi 16 novembre 2021Durée 50:19

This week's episode is all about the upcoming Education Network pamphlet, titled 'Towards a 21st Century Curriculum'. I was joined by Amy Dwyer, chair of the network and co-ordinator of the pamphlet, who gave us a bit of background behind the project; how it came about and what its aims are, as well as discussing her own piece for the pamphlet on climate crisis education.

It was also fantastic to be joined by a few of the contributors to the pamphlet to discuss a wide range of topics such as decolonising the curriculum, neurodiversity in education, the subject of Citizenship, reform of the History curriculum and much more.

Historic Labour GAIN in Earlsdon ft. Cllr Anthony Tucker

vendredi 25 juin 2021Durée 24:30

Last month's local elections left much to be desired for many Labour Party members, particularly those in the West Midlands.  From many Labour Councillors across the region losing their seats to Liam Byrne's unfortunate loss in the Mayoral race - it's hard to imagine much to feel hopeful about. However, over in Earlsdon, a leafy ward in the suburbs of Coventry, Anthony Tucker gained a council seat from the Conservatives to complete a set of three Labour councillors for the ward; an historic first for Earlsdon!

In this episode, Nathan and Marie from the West Midlands Young Fabians chat with Cllr Anthony Tucker to find out about Earlsdon, what went right in his campaign and what we can learn from it, the importance of young people standing as councillors and much more.

Winning Ideas in the West Midlands: Stoke-on-Trent Central ft. Gareth Snell

vendredi 30 avril 2021Durée 45:31

In the latest installment of our series focusing on winning back heartlands within the West Midlands, we travel (virtually) up to Stoke-on-Trent to speak with Gareth Snell, the former Labour MP for the constituency from 2017-2019!

Gareth tells us his favourite things about Stoke; from the city's historic pottery industry to their famous oatcakes, giving a real insight into the area and the issues that are key to the constituents which Gareth once represented. We asked Gareth for his thoughts on why Stoke-on-Trent Central turned blue in 2019 as well as his ideas on how to reconnect with and win back voters in The Potteries.

Scottish Labour: The Road to Holyrood

vendredi 9 avril 2021Durée 51:36

With the Scottish Parliament elections fast approaching,  we are joined by Albie, Cecily, and John from the Young Scottish Fabians to discuss all things Scottish Labour and what their path to success will look like in Scotland's everchanging political landscape.

We talked about new leader Anas Sarwar's first few weeks in charge of Scottish Labour, the challenges he faces leading up to the election on May 6th, what their communications and campaign strategy has been like so far and what more they could do, as well as Labour's idea for a  'National Recovery Plan'.

Of course, we couldn't avoid the recent political theatrics within Scottish politics, discussing the Holyrood Inquiry, the emergence of Alex Salmond's Alba Party, the ebb and flow of Independence polling and what this all means for Labour, The Union, and Scotland itself.
