How to Talk to Your Kids About Hard Topics in Scripture | Jess Wolstenholm31 Mar 202600:36:16

Today on the show, I sat down with my new friend Jess Wolstenholm. Jess is the VP of Education and Spiritual Formation at Minno Kids. She is a child media specialist and we invited her on the show to help us digest talking to kids about hard topics and scripture. We also get into screen time. You don’t want to miss this episode if you have young kids in your life at some capacity.

If Jess is new to you, she is a writer, editor, and kids Bible teacher. Currently, she serve as the VP of Content and Faith Formation for Minno Kids. With a love for words and a background in marketing and brand management, she comes alive when developing content that teaches kids the truth of God's Word and helps parents create a vibrant culture of faith in their homes. Her love of kids ministry and children's literature led her to put her passions to work for the company that is now Minno in early 2018. With today's super busy, hyper-connected families, they try to meet parents right where they are to deliver helpful Bible-teaching tools and encouraging reminders through blog posts, podcasts, downloads, and social media content.

Author of The Pregnancy and Baby Companion books, she also contributed articles, essays, and resources to various parenting sites such as Motherly, the Huffington Post, Faith Gateway, and Scary Mommy. When she’s not writing, editing, or teaching kids about the Bible, you can find her reading children's books (coming-of-age, middle-grade adventures are her favorite!). She lives outside Nashville, Tennessee with my amazing husband, Dave, and their two children.

Next week, I will sit down with my friend Jon Acuff. The conversation is loaded with wisdom on how to apply scripture and overcome your shame. It is the “how to” in reprogramming our thoughts and what Paul meant by renewing your mind. Join us!

Finding Joy When Life Doesn't Go as Planned | Rachel Awtrey31 Mar 202600:45:25

Today on the show, I sat down with my new friend Rachel Awtrey. Rachel is so much fun and truly a joy to be around. She and I get extremely practical on how to live a joyful life when it is hard. We also dive into how to make friendships and how being awkward is the new normal. Yes, we definitely get into how happy people might feel weird at church. This episode is all the things and more!

If Rachel is new to you, she is an online encourager based out of Birmingham, Alabama. She is admittedly obsessed with my friends and sharing bits and pieces of my life. She wears a lot of hats these days including mama to two boys, military wife, blogger, podcast host and more. You can find her behind the microphone at Real Talk with Rach where we talk about everything from jeans to Jesus, playlists to pop culture, the good and the grief and everything in between.

Episode 3 is also available with Jess Wolstenhom. Jess played a large role in the content development for the new David film that was just in theaters. You also get access for free to the Easter Minno Kid’s Special in the show notes AND she gives us a wealth of information on how to talk to our kids about scripture.

Breaking Free from Shames Prison | Tasha Layton30 Mar 202600:47:58

Welcome to the VERY FIRST Women of Joy show! We are so glad you’re here. My name is Maegan Waldrep Schwindling. Today on the show, I sat down with my friend Tasha Layton. Tasha is one of my favorite humans. She and I get very real about our shame and how we overcome it. Tasha is no stranger to trauma and mental health struggles. She has never held back in allowing God to use her story. This episode is unique in us getting a behind the scenes look at her new song Meet Me in The Valley.

If Tasha is new to you, her 2021 smash hit “Look What You’ve Done” reached the pinnacle of Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart and earned her recognition as one of the publication’s Top 5 female Christian artists of the year. She has been featured on ABC’s GMA3: What You Need To Know, discussing how past struggles have shaped her life and inspired her music; and Layton served as co-host of the 52nd GMA Dove Awards Pre-Telecast last year. Her guided prayer journal, "Boundless: Moving Freedom From Your Head To Your Heart," is her newest book.

Don’t forget, you can ALREADY listen to Episodes 02 and 03. In Episode 02, I sit down with my new friend Rachel Awtrey to talk about all things radiance. She is a new face to Women of Joy, but I don’t think she will be a stranger. In Episode 03, it is a tremendous resource for grandparents and parents heading into Easter weekend. I sit down with my friend Jess to talk about how to cover the hard parts of scripture with your kids or grandkids without wandering it down. Trust me, you don’t want to miss any of these first 3 episodes that dropped today!

The Moms of Summer | Rachel Ramsey Cruze16 Jun 202600:47:20

Summer is supposed to be the season of memories, sunshine, and slowing down, but for many moms, it feels more like a full-time job. Between managing schedules, planning activities, coordinating childcare, feeding hungry kids around the clock, and trying to keep everyone entertained, summer can quickly become overwhelming.

In this episode of The Women of Joy Show, Maegan sits down with bestselling author and financial expert Rachel Cruze to talk about the pressures moms face during the summer months. Together, they unpack the unrealistic expectations many women carry, the temptation to overspend in pursuit of the "perfect summer," and how to create meaningful memories without exhausting yourself emotionally, physically, or financially.

Whether you're juggling camps, vacations, sports schedules, work responsibilities, or simply trying to survive the daily chaos, this conversation will remind you that your children don't need a cruise director. They need a mom who is present.

The Courage to Commit with Shawn Johnson East & Andrew East09 Jun 202600:46:55

Today on The Women of Joy Show, we continue our Summer of Joy talking about how we can learn to be better at commitment. I had the opportunity to sit down with Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson East and former NFL player Andrew East to talk about their new book, Courage to Commit.

In a culture that often celebrates keeping our options open, Shawn and Andrew offer a refreshing perspective on what it means to fully commit—to God, to marriage, to family, and to the life God has called us to build.

Together, we discuss the realities of marriage beyond the highlight reel, navigating seasons of change, raising children, and learning to choose each other again and again. Shawn and Andrew share candidly about the challenges they've faced, the lessons they've learned, and why commitment isn't about perfection—it's about showing up, growing together, and staying rooted in what matters most.

We also talk about the pressures many women face today: the pressure to do it all, be it all, and somehow keep everything balanced. Their wisdom is both practical and encouraging for anyone seeking stronger relationships and a deeper sense of purpose.

Whether you're married, dating, single, or simply wanting to build healthier relationships, this conversation offers valuable insights about trust, faithfulness, and the courage required to live with intention.

Take a few moments this week to consider where God may be calling you to deeper commitment. Whether it's in your marriage, friendships, faith journey, family, or personal growth, ask yourself: What would it look like to show up faithfully in this area today?

Because while commitment can be costly, the fruit it produces is often greater than we could imagine.

How to Experience God More Deeply This Summer | Joi Bowling02 Jun 202600:27:59

Today on The Women of Joy Show, I sat down with my friend Joi Bowling for a conversation about something every believer longs for: experiencing the presence of God and finding lasting joy in Him.

Joi is a familiar face to our Women of Joy Family. If she is new to you, I promise you’ll love her as much as we do! As we kick off our Summer of Joy series, Joi and I talk about what it means to worship God in every season—not just when life feels easy, but when we're tired, distracted, discouraged, or simply going through the motions.

We discuss how worship is so much more than music. It's about ascribing worth to God, remembering who He is, and allowing His truth to shape our hearts. Whether you're leading worship from a stage, serving your family, teaching a Bible study, or simply trying to walk faithfully with Jesus, this conversation will encourage you to pursue Him with openness and expectancy.

We also talk about the importance of community, the gift of confession, and why God never intended for us to carry life's burdens alone. Joi shares practical wisdom for preparing our hearts to meet with God and how to continue worshiping even when we don't necessarily feel like it.

If you're longing for a deeper relationship with God, a renewed sense of joy, or simply a fresh perspective on worship, I think you'll be encouraged by this conversation.

What Happens When You Get Out of the Holy Spirit's Way | Charles Billingsley26 May 202600:52:02

Today on the show, I sat down with Charles Billingsley for one of the most honest and refreshing conversations we’ve had in a long time. You will know Charles from being with his band leading worship at our events. Charles has spent decades in ministry and music, but this conversation goes far beyond the stage. We talk about the tension so many people feel between calling, family, ambition, and faithfulness — and what it looks like to keep your priorities in the right order in a world constantly pushing us toward performance.

We dive into the danger of saying yes to every “good” opportunity, how ego can quietly shape our decisions, and why success in God’s kingdom often looks very different than success in the world. Charles shares wisdom from years in ministry, including lessons learned about marriage, parenting, leadership, vulnerability, and creating space for the Holy Spirit to move.

We also talk about the pressure social media places on leaders and believers alike, the celebrity culture that can creep into ministry, and why authenticity matters now more than ever. One of my favorite parts of the conversation is when we discuss how God often does His deepest work through brokenness, not perfection.

This episode is deeply practical, encouraging, convicting, and full of grace. Whether you’re in full-time ministry, balancing work and family, or simply trying to faithfully follow Jesus in your everyday life, I think this conversation will meet you right where you are.

How to Love Radiantly in a Dark World | Angela Thomas Pharr19 May 202600:46:41

Today on the show, I sat down with my dear friend Angela Thomas Pharr for a conversation that felt like a deep breath for the soul. We talked about what it truly means to live radiantly in a world that often leaves us exhausted, discouraged, and distracted from the life God has called us to live.

Angela shares wisdom from years of walking with Jesus and reminds us that radiant living is not about perfection, performance, or pretending everything is fine. It’s about surrender. It’s about learning to trust God enough to step into all He has for us — even when it feels uncomfortable, uncertain, or costly.

We also talk honestly about fear, comparison, obedience, and the ways we sometimes shrink back from the fullness of God’s calling on our lives. This episode will encourage you to stop settling for survival mode and start embracing the abundant life Jesus offers.

If you’ve been feeling spiritually stuck, weary, or unsure of your next step, I think this conversation will deeply encourage you. Angela’s words are full of both truth and grace, and I believe this episode will remind you that God is not finished with your story.

You’ll walk away challenged to pursue Jesus more fully, live with intentionality, and trust that the God who called you is faithful to complete the work He began in you.

This episode is honest, practical, hope-filled, and full of reminders that you were made to shine His light right where you are.

Faith When Healing Doesn’t Come: Living with Chronic Illness | Susie Larson12 May 202600:49:02

Today on the show, I sat down with Susie Larson to have an honest and hope-filled conversation about chronic illness, faith, and trusting God when healing doesn’t come.

If you or someone you love is walking through chronic health issues, autoimmune disease, long-term sickness, or unexplained pain, this episode is for you.

Susie shares from her own personal journey of battling chronic illness and how it has shaped her faith in ways she never expected. We talk about the emotional, spiritual, and mental toll that chronic illness brings and why so many women carry shame, isolation, and silent suffering in these seasons.

We also address the tension many believers feel between faith and healing, including:

  • What to do when you’re praying but not getting better
  • How to trust God when your body feels like it’s failing you
  • The dangers of “formula faith” and harmful theology around healing
  • How to hold onto hope in the middle of ongoing pain

This conversation is both deeply personal and incredibly practical. If you’ve ever wondered, “Where is God in my suffering?” or “Why hasn’t He healed me?”—you are not alone.

There is space for your questions.

There is grace for your struggle.

And there is still hope.

If Susie is new to you, she is a bestselling author, national speaker, and host of the popular radio show Susie Larson Live. She is passionate about helping people experience the presence of God in the middle of real-life challenges.

Listen in and be encouraged…you can have strong faith even in chronic illness.
