The topic of this week's episode is the Noppera-Bo from Japanese folklore. We share an introduction piece along with three, true scary stories. A Yōkai is a term used in Japanese folklore to refer to various supernatural beings, monsters, and spirits. These creatures can encompass a wide range of forms, from mischievous and harmless beings to malicious and dangerous entities. Yōkai are deeply ingrained in Japanese culture and have been depicted in various forms of art, literature, and entertainment throughout history. They often possess unique characteristics and abilities. Some well-known examples of Yōkai include Kitsune (a fox spirit), Tanuki (a raccoon dog spirit), Kappa (a water-dwelling creature), and Yuki-onna (a snow woman). There also exists a mysterious entity known as the Noppera-bō, known as the faceless ghost. This Yōkai assumes the form of a humanoid figure, but lacks a face. It is often misidentified as a mujina, a term hailing from ancient Japan denoting a badger or raccoon dog. Nevertheless, the Noppera-bō predominantly takes on the guise of a fellow human, concealing its true nature. Legend say that these beings possess the ability to shapeshift into Noppera-bō. The night started normally, as I assessed and passed meds to the patients and did my charting and other night duties, stocking and other stuff. Just around 11 PM, one of my palliative patients started ringing complaining that there was a kid running into the room laughing and playing when they should be in bed. I checked the room to make sure there was no one in the room and reassured him that there were no children in the hospital area we were in. I made him comfortable and left the room. This week's episode looks at the various entities that haunt the Ancient Ram Inn. We share an introduction to the topic and then one, scary story about a haunted pub. The Ancient Ram Inn has been standing since 1145, after being originally built as a place to house the workers, who were constructing the nearby St. Mary's Church. Gloucestershire, the county where the Ancient Ram Inn is located, seems to be a hotbed for ghostly activity. While the inn itself is known for its hauntings, it's not the only place in the area with supernatural tales to tell. Two other notable locations in Gloucestershire said to be infested with ghosts are the Woodchester Mansion and St. Briavels Castle. Now, you might be wondering if there's any connection between these three haunted spots. Well, it turns out that there might be something more to it. From an archaeological perspective, the Ancient Ram Inn holds a unique position. It's situated right on the crossroad of two key, Ley lines. Ley lines are believed to be straight lines that connect several places of geological and spiritual importance. These lines often pass through sites like prehistoric burial grounds, mystical locations such as stone circles, and even ancient churches and cathedrals. Join us on this week's episode as we delve into Banshee folklore. We share an introduction to the topic and then two, scary stories related to this Irish legend. Traditionally, the banshee is believed to be a supernatural being attached to certain old Irish families, serving as both a harbinger of death and a protector of those she is bound to. This entity is often seen as a female spirit or fairy, dressed in flowing white garments, with long, wild hair and glowing eyes.
Legend states that the banshee's primary role is to forewarn the imminent death of a family member. Her mournful wailing and keening are said to be heard in the dead of night, just before tragedy strikes. The chilling sound is acts as a somber reminder of mortality.
Despite the association with death, the banshee is not a malevolent being. In fact, she is often regarded as a guardian or protector of her designated family. The banshee's presence is seen as a sign of respect and reverence, as she mourns the passing of a loved one and guides their soul to the afterlife.

Its movements are often likened to those of a newborn deer, despite its adult-sized body. Witnesses have reported an uncanny agility and grace that deviates from a typical deer's behavior. Not Deers possess limbs that are noticeably longer than those of a regular deer, with some accounts suggesting the presence of additional joints. This story occurred in the summer of 2008. I grew up in Oregon and was acquainted with the outdoors at an early age. My favorite hobby came to be hiking, particularly in areas that are either very dangerous or isolated. The health benefits of hiking were secondary to the thrills of walking the edges of exposed cliffs, being in cougar and bear territory, and knowing that I was far from help. *Into the Wild* was released in the fall of 2007 and I immediately fell in love. Being a high school senior, I felt imprisoned in my parent's house. A teenager with wild eyes, the movie spoke to my sense of adventure. It inspired me to hike the California portion of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) upon graduation. For the uninitiated, the PCT is a 2,700 north-south trail from the border of Mexico to that of Canada. It traverses deserts, forests, and mountains. It ranges from sea level to 13,000 feet elevation. The reason I tell you this is because needless to say, some parts of the trail are more remote than anything you can imagine. You aren't hiking outside of LA and San Francisco here. You're hiking through hundreds of miles of untamed wilderness in what is essentially the Wild West. My dad was working really late at night in his "fish farm"(as he calls it) with one of his employees. My dad and his employees were the one ones in the building. It was almost midnight and my dad's "farm" was actually a small house but is purposely built to house fish tanks. The house is surrounded by trees from all sides, making it very dark outside. Anyway, they were packing up some fishes to import when suddenly, the bell rang. Now this was almost midnight so it's really strange that someone would visit at the hour, but my dad sent his employee to check. There was no one outside. My dad thought it was just some kids trolling so he and his employee went back to work. After a few minutes, the bell rang again. This time, my dad checked the bell himself but no one was there. By that time they were getting frustrated but they went to continue their work. After a few minutes, it rang again. My dad thought the bell was broken so he checked. Then he remembered that the bell was unplugged by one of his employees to be repaired the next day, because it was broken and cannot be used. I am a 100% science-based skeptic who experienced something I can't explain at my office in late May of this year. I need to know if there is anyone out there that has experienced an encounter like mine. Due to the pandemic my office building that normally accommodates 1000+ employees has largely been empty save for reduced security teams, maintenance personnel, cleaning staff and a handful of mission critical employees of which I am one. On May 28th at 1:10 pm I was sitting at my desk, the lone employee at the far end of one of many large, empty 'cubicle city' suites. Despite the emptiness, the fluorescent lighting and outer wall windows provide a comforting brightness. The creepiness factor is supplied by the multitude of small whiteboards hanging outside cubicle entrances all marked with the same date: March 16, 2020, the day of evacuation. On this particular day I was reading emails when I heard very distinct heavy footsteps in an almost jogging gait approach my cubicle entrance and stopped abruptly. I looked up expecting to see a maintenance person. Instead there was no one there. In Greek mythology, Charon, also known as the Ferryman of Hades, holds a prominent place as the guardian and transporter of the souls of the deceased across the river Styx. This legendary figure plays a crucial role in the afterlife beliefs of the ancient Greeks, offering a fascinating glimpse into their mythology and understanding of death. According to myth, the river Styx formed the boundary between the mortal realm and the underworld, where the souls of the dead resided. To reach the realm of Hades, the god of the underworld, one had to cross the river Styx. This is where Charon came into play. He was tasked with ferrying the souls of the deceased across the river, allowing them to enter the realm of the dead. Growing up I always loved movies and shows regarding the paranormal. Ghost movies really are the only form of horror I ever found scary as I've always believed there was something real to the idea of hauntings. Feeling this way I've always been so curious to have my own paranormal experience to truly judge for myself. After hurricane Katrina my family and I were left refugees with no home. My brother was a little older and went back to New Orleans to stay with my godparents and work. My parents took jobs as traveling health care workers. I was approximately 16 or 17 at the time. My mother took an assignment working for a nursing home in north Tennessee on the Tennessee-Kentucky border. Her travel company put her up in a rental cabin in the woods and her and I and her 2 dogs went to stay. Jonah had never heard of the infamous Dudleytown, so Allie and I decided to take him there and show him what all the fuss was about. Deep in the remote hills of Northwest Connecticut lay an abandoned town known as Dudleytown. It had gained a reputation for being cursed, isolated from the rest of society. Early settlers in the 17th century had established their homes on this vast stretch of land. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when all the children in town died under mysterious circumstances. This led to a mass exodus, leaving behind empty houses and deserted farms. Now, Dudleytown stood as an overgrown hill, casting its long shadow on the valley. It was protected by the enigmatic Dark Woods Society. As we ascended the hill in my car, I leaned back, pressing the pedal firmly due to the steep incline. The road soon transitioned into a rugged path, with rocks flying up in our wake. Finally reaching the top, I switched off my headlights and parked the car beside a bush. These two acquaintances of mine informed me, in graphic detail, about the legend of Bloody Mary. “Here’s what you gotta do,” they said, “When you’re home alone after midnight; lock all the doors; turn off all the lights in the house. Go into your room. Turn off that light when you get in there. The legend of Bloody Mary tells the story of a ghostly figure who appears when summoned in front of a mirror. According to folklore, Bloody Mary was a witch named Mary Worth. Mary's reputation had spread throughout her village, with many assuming her to be a witch as she lived in a small cabin within the forest and sold tinctures and herbal remedies. The locals kept their distance from her, fearing that any interaction with her would result in a curse on themselves or their animals. Those who used her remedies were shunned by the community, leaving Mary to live a life of isolation. Before long, young girls began to vanish mysteriously. Despite their best efforts, the villagers scoured every inch of the area, but found no trace of the missing children. A group of brave souls even dared to venture towards Bloody Mary's cabin in hopes of finding answers but the witch denied any involvement in the disappearances. Strangely, Bloody Mary's appearance had changed drastically; once elderly and worn, she now appeared more youthful and feminine, but despite their suspicions, there seemed to be little they could do. Cannock Chase is a paranormal hotspot in the West Midlands. WEREWOLVES | TRUE SCARY FOLKLORE Throughout European folklore, the werewolf is a prevalent concept that has taken on many variations. These interpretations share a common thread: a Christian interpretation of European folklore that evolved during the medieval period. As colonialism took hold in the New World during the early modern era, werewolf beliefs also spread. The belief in werewolves and witches developed concurrently during the Late Middle Ages and the early modern period. The trial of supposed werewolves emerged in Switzerland, particularly in the Valais and Vaud regions, in the early 15th century, eventually spreading throughout Europe in the 16th century. The trials reached their peak in the 17th century before eventually subsiding by the 18th century. The title "The Ghost of Rhonda Street" blared across the newspaper, and the opening statement was brief: "Investigators visited a Swansea row house today, as the residents claimed a specter had pillaged their home."
