There are many reasons why this is such an important part of being an artist. We are often trying to achieve things which require a high degree of craft. This takes time... and it can be especially tricky for artists to tell how good their work is.

We tend to be critical of our own creations. And the process of their creation often colours our appreciation of them.

In the video I talk about three main ways to think about improving as an artist.

1 - External Improvement - Is the art itself getting any better? How do we tell?

2 - Internal Improvement - Is it getting easier for us to create? Is there less struggle?

3 - Process Improvement - Is the process of creating art getting smoother? Are we better able to link up our initial ideas with the finished product?

Often it is easy to miss some areas where we are improving a great deal... despite our art not really looking any different.

The more we can appreciate all the different ways we are getting better the easier it is to track our progress and develop a positive relationship with our art!
