The son of the legendary sarode maestro Ali Akbar Khan is a sarode virtuoso himself. Hardcore, longtime fan, and friend of Tedeschi Trucks Band, Maine’s own, James Ricker grew up in a rural area with a lot country music around, but was always into classic rock. Unfortunately he suffered an accident in 1990 that left him permanently paralyzed, but James’ story of rehabilitation is an inspiring one that I appreciate him sharing. He’s known Derek, Susan, and Mike Mattison personally for over 20 years now, and I also appreciate James sharing his tales of fishing and lobstering with the band -- and also of course sharing his love for the music. At the tail end of this past September into early October, Tedeschi Trucks Band played their annual (sans 2020) residency at the Beacon Theatre. And for the first time ever, I made it to the Beacon to see the band -- for the final three shows of the run. This was the first live TTB show for me since 2019 and since launching this podcast, and not only was the music amazing, it was also super special to connect with some of the band, crew, others fans, and share the whole experience with family.
