In the very first episode of Season 5 I am speaking to the Queen of Hormones - Dr Sarah Buckley.

I have been so excited to bring this incredible conversation to you - as I recorded it way back in April.

Sarah shares with us her knowledge about hormones in general, but in particular the role of Oxytocin. She has also gained lots of new information whilst doing her PHD - including some interesting findings on how synthetic oxytocin can actually support the body by doing what Sarah calls 'filling a hormonal gap'.

This is where ALL the baby's blood transfers into their body, and they receive their full blood compliment.

I have to say that this is a particular favourite of mine, because Amanda's story is so important to the future health of our children, and her inspirational journey has been life changing for so many.

Daisy shares her knowledge of pregnancy yoga and the many benefits from her classes, which are run by a local charity in Edinburgh. She talks about working with the breath, body autonomy, helping to develop a deep understanding around birth options, and includes great tips for birth partners.

During this episode, I am speaking with the incredible Kemi Johnson, a fully trained midwife, and birth keeper, who dedicates her time to calling out bad practice within the NHS maternity system, and speaking up for pregnant women and birthing people to help them to discover the benefits of physiological birth. Kemi is currently in Dara Salaam in Tanzania, so the sound quality reflects this.

Like many of us, her aim is to ensure that not only are new parents having positive birth experiences but their babies are not forced to come before they are ready and pumped with unnecessary medications to combat the overuse of interventions.

Physiological birth is to give birth in the way that nature intended and is the default mode of birth for humans and all other mammals.

She shares her great wisdom of what is required when preparing for the baby's arrival during pregnancy. She makes many recommendations about using a planning journal to ensure that anyone expecting a baby considers the wide variety of issues that may arise in the early days with a newborn, and how to ensure that you are all cared for and the new mother and baby are nurtured to facilitate bonding.

In this episode, I am pleased to welcome NHS Midwife Eleanor Copp. Eleanor is talking to us about working in a Midwife Led Unit or MLU which is a really great option to give birth in for many couples, offering a home from home style birth facility that is a step down from high-level medical care. This more natural setting gives pregnant women and birthing people the opportunity to achieve a birth with little or no interventions - simply because of the environment and the philosophy of Midwife Led Care.

As well as being an exceptional person-centered midwife, Eleanor is a trained hypnotherapist and Bowen practitioner, and she writes an empowered birth column for Juno magazine.
