Ranking SNL Digital Shorts (The Finale)12 Sep 202401:00:45

In this episode of the Ten to One Podcast, hosts Brad Oman from Slashfilm.com, Nate Loucks, and Ben Konowitz wrap up their summer exploration of the comedic genius of The Lonely Island from Saturday Night Live. Since SNL is on its seasonal break, this dedicated trio has been revisiting the digital shorts that defined an era of humor, focusing on the final contributions from seasons 36 and 37. This episode marks the third and final installment in their special series dedicated to these groundbreaking shorts.

This week, Brad, Nate, and Ben get nostalgic as they analyze the last set of digital shorts from The Lonely Island team - Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer. They will break down each short's impact, creativity, and placement in the vast universe of SNL's digital content.

But that's not all - after revisiting over 100 digital shorts, the hosts face the daunting task of compiling their ultimate top-10 list. Which shorts will make the cut? Will "Lazy Sunday" reign supreme, or will "I'm On A Boat" sail away with the top spot? Or perhaps an underdog will emerge as a favorite. Expect plenty of debates, laughs, and a walk down memory lane as Brad, Nate, and Ben honor The Lonely Island's unparalleled contribution to SNL and comedy as a whole.

Don't miss out on this nostalgic journey filled with humor, insights, and the difficult decisions that come with ranking comedy gold.

Expect plenty of banter, insightful commentary, and maybe even a few impressions as our dynamic duo guides you through the wonders of live comedy. Whether you're a die-hard SNL aficionado or just here for the laughs, Nate and Brad have got you covered (but not Ben, he's lazy...)

Episode 59 - Josh Brolin (Season 49)13 Mar 202400:54:05

This week on the Ten to One Podcast, we're diving deep into the latest SNL episode, which aired on March 10, 2024. The ruggedly dashing Josh Brolin graced the stage of Studio 8H for his third hosting gig amidst the swirling sands of his latest blockbuster success, Dune 2.

As usual, we unpack the night's sketches, surprises, and those unforgettable moments that SNL often delivers (hello, Scarlett Johansson.) From a funnier-than-usual cold open to some quality pre-tapes, we're covering it all, sketch by sketch, laugh by laugh.

And, be warned, the audio isn't up to our usual standards, as we had to record this episode remotely. Brad is sweating in Texas, Ben is absent in a Mexican nursing home, and Nate is in Indiana, as he always is.

In the latest episode of the 'Ten to One Podcast,' hosts Brad, Ben, and Nate spin their discussion web around the cult classic SNL-based film - 'It's Pat,' a film built around the quirky gender-unclear protagonist character from the 90s.

This isn't a great film, but we had a blast talking about other 0% Rotten Tomato films and the few things we found funny.

Episode 39 - Ana de Armas (SNL Season 48)19 Apr 202301:13:55

It's a new episode of the Ten to One Podcast! We recap and review Ana de Armas' appearance on Saturday Night Live, including our favorite and least favorite sketch of the night and our MVP cast member. SNL was revisited by Matt Schatt and Lisa from Temecula and some puppies trying to make it in the acting world. Molly Kearney gives their opinions on recent anti-LGBTQ bills in the United States, and Sarah Sherman gives us a new character, Guru Genesis Fry.

The guys also discuss whether they had any times when they didn’t remember the night before (with a slightly gross anecdote that we won't get into here!), Señor Konowitz talks about his time in Spanish class (which is probably the last time he's ever used any foreign language!), and Nate gets caught not listening to his co-hosts during the podcast (which is really the only time he's ever been quiet!).

It was an up-and-down episode as a whole, but we had a blast talking about it anyway. Are you a Saturday Night Live fan? It’s time for the Ten to One!

Don't even get us started... because it's time for the Ten to One!

Episode 37 - Quinta Brunson (SNL Season 48)03 Apr 202300:48:16

We're back with the first of another trio of new Saturday Night Live episodes to usher in spring. Quinta Brunson, the Emmy-winning star, writer, producer, and creator of Abbott Elementary, makes her hosting debut, and it's a good one! We love this tiny but hilarious queen of comedy!

There are a couple of valleys among these SNL peaks, but it's mostly a home run. Plus, Weekend Update plays host to an epic April Fools Day prank between Michael Che and Colin Jost. What does that mean for the Brad-o-Meter? You'll have to listen to find out.

Don't get into a traffic altercation while watching this one, stay away from stairs, and make sure to tell Ben how ridiculous it is that he has no idea who Lisa Frank is. Oh, and find out what special surprise Brad found at a bookstore that ties into an upcoming host. Oooooh! The suspense!

Episode 36 - Jenna Ortega (SNL Season 48)14 Mar 202300:59:03

The Ten to One Podcast is a Saturday Night Live recap and review show.

After the undeserved attack on Travis Kelce from Captain Curmudgeon Bradford Oman last week, we're back with a much happier and harmonious hosting crew to review Jenna Ortega's first time hosting Saturday Night Live.

Ben comes up with an excellent name for a band (750 for Lenny Pickett), Brad talks about his foray into tweeting about the 1975's Matty Healy, and Nate wonders if his likes on Twitter are viewed as endorsements. They aren't. Believe him; they aren't.

Molly Kearney visited the Weekend Update desk for the first time, the Please Don't Destroy guys released a new song, and what happens at the Waffle House stays at the Waffle House. Plus, Jenna Ortega brought Fred Armisen back for a visit.

You're a fan of Saturday Night Live? So are we! It's time for another episode of the Ten to One.

Episode 35 - Travis Kelce (SNL Season 48)07 Mar 202300:53:29

It's been 35 episodes of the Ten to One Podcast, and we finally had fireworks. All it took was a Super Bowl-winning tight end to stir the pot among Ben, Brad, and Nate. And, although this might be the most contentious episode of the Ten to One, we still had a lot of fun reviewing each sketch of Travis Kelce's appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Brad thinks Jason Kelce seems like a real good time, Nate is frustrated that the other two can't pronounce Gheorghe Mureșan correctly, and Ben is in awe of some Dilbert cosplay.

We've got the Brad-o-Meter, MVP, sketch-of-the-night, and some fun banter back and forth. Friends, sit back and enjoy; it's time for the Ten to One!

Episode 34 - Woody Harrelson (SNL Season 48)28 Feb 202300:55:47

It's the 13th episode of the 48th season of Saturday Night Live.

"AND WHY DIDN'T WE LIKE THIS EPISODE?"

"Because it was bad."

Woody Harrelson stops by Studio 8H for the fifth time. To celebrate, we got an antiquated Boaty McBoatface sketch, a hilarious Cologuard commercial, and an unfunny anti-vax monologue. We also play "Name the SNL 5-Timer."

What did the Brad-o-meter read for the Weekend Update chemistry? What did NBA fan Ben think of James Austin Johnson's Bill Walton impression? Who did we pick for our MVP and Sketch of the Night?

It's time for the Ten to One!

Episode 33 - Pedro Pascal (SNL Season 48)07 Feb 202300:58:27

Oh, my gah. We're back.

It's the 12th episode of the 48th season, and first-time host Pedro Pascal didn't disappoint! Ben, Nate, and Brad rewatch and review the latest episode of Saturday Night Live and discuss their favorite sketches and performances.

Some things you'll find in this episode: Ben likes ethnically questionable hot sauce, Nate has enjoyed British rap for the last twenty years without telling anyone, and Brad is dying for someone to make fan cams dedicated to him. Where was Che and Jost on the Brad-o-meter this week? Which former cast member does Michael Longfellow remind us of? And who received the coveted Ten to One MVP?

Pedro Pascal and a staff of incredible writers and talented castmates gifted us with a memorable mid-season episode of Saturday Night Live. Let's discuss on the Ten to One.

Shaking Our Heads to the Beat: A Night at the Roxbury Deep Dive04 Jul 202400:55:15

Welcome to a special summer break episode of the Ten to One Podcast, where your favorite SNL recap trio – Brad Oman from Slashfilm.com, Nate Loucks, and Ben Konowitz – take a slight detour from their usual sketch comedy analysis to bring you a deep dive into the cinematic world born out of Saturday Night Live's iconic skits. This week, we don our finest rayon suits and revisit the 1998 cult classic A Night at the Roxbury, starring Chris Kattan, Will Ferrell, and Molly Shannon.

Dive into the pulsating heart of '90s comedy as Brad, Nate, and Ben break down the film's connection to SNL, explore its cultural impact, and debate where it stands amidst other SNL feature adaptations. They'll discuss the infamous head-bobbing duo of Doug and Steve Butabi, review their outrageous attempts to enter the hottest club in town and dissect the unforgettable cameos and soundtrack that have made this movie a beloved piece of nostalgia for fans.

The hosts will also discuss the film's reception at the time of release, its mixed critical reviews, and how perceptions of the movie have evolved over the years. They'll also delve into the chemistry between Kattan and Ferrell, examining the drama behind the scenes that left a permanent mark on their friendship.

Episode 32 - Michael B. Jordan (SNL Season 48)31 Jan 202300:58:18

We're now at the halfway point of Saturday Night Live's 48th season. Hosting this episode was first-time host Michael B. Jordan. Ben, Nate, and Brad review the best and worst sketches.

Is the State Farm sketch the perfect sketch? Can someone hire Michael B. Jordan an accent coach? What score does the Weekend Update receive on the Brad-o-meter? Do Brad and Ben ever feel ashamed when they disagree with Nate on which sketches are funny (Michael Che's Doorman Carl)? Why do people go to drive-through lines that already have lines of 30 cars? We're looking at you Chick-fil-a customers!

Are you a fan of Saturday Night Live? Then, listen in on the Ten to One Podcast as we talk about episode 11 of the 48th season of SNL.

ABOUT THE TEN TO ONE PODCAST: Named after the time slot reserved for the oddball sketches of Saturday Night Live, this podcast from three die-hard SNL fans dives into every new episode of the sketch series that is not only a staple of television but an institution of comedy.

Bradford Oman (aka Ethan Anderton at SlashFilm.com), Ben Konowitz, and Nate Loucks will discuss every sketch from each new episode, rate the host, and pick their favorite player of the evening. Plus, there are bound to be stupid bits and dumb tangents.

Episode 31 - Aubrey Plaza (SNL Season 48)25 Jan 202300:57:48

It's time for a new episode of the Ten to One! As always, we give you an in-depth review of the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. This week, SNL was hosted by former NBC page and awkward and lovable Aubrey Plaza. Join us as we discuss the best and worst of the night's sketches, predict Jost and Che's rating on the Brad-ometer, and, for the first time, talk about the musical guest thanks to a statuesque Sharon Stone. Bowen Yang debuts a George Santos impression (twice!), Leslie Knope tries a joke at the Weekend Update desk, and President Joe Biden stops by (kinda.)

Whether you're a long-time fan of SNL or a newcomer to the show, join us in the conversation and let us know your thoughts on the latest episode!

SHOW LINKS:

  • Please Don't Destroy - Tommy - Ben mentions this sketch with Brendon Gleeson as a great example of a serious actor going all-in with the silliness of Saturday Night Live.
  • $100m and a sequel in the works: why has M3gan become such a hit (and a gay icon)? - An article in the Guardian about M3GAN becoming a gay icon, as referenced in the M3GAN 2.0 pre-tape sketch on SNL.
  • Pierre the Backstage Llama Passed Away - "Considering how long this visual gag has gone on, one could imagine that "Saturday Night Live" has gone through quite a few llamas over the years. However, few reached a level of fame among fans of the show quite like Pierre, who appeared several times alongside various hosts and walked numerous backstage hallways. Sadly, in March 2022, the news broke that Pierre had passed away."

Episode 30 - BONUS - The Ten to One Top-10 SNL Cast Members of All Time06 Jan 202301:05:18

Since there's a break in new episodes of Saturday Night Live, we took time to create and discuss lists of our top-10 favorite Saturday Night Live cast members.

Nate confesses that he’s not in love with the earliest few seasons of Saturday Night Live, especially compared to the 90s cast. Brad insults Nate, Ben, and America with his list placement of Chris Farley. And in breaking news, Ben embarrassingly admits that he doesn’t enjoy Kristen Wiig’s Target Lady or Gilly.

And as a bonus, Ben, Nate, and Brad throw in their favorite hosts. Because why not?

Are you tired of waiting for a new episode of Saturday Night Live? Have you caught yourself humming random Lonely Island songs recently? Did you get in a fight over the holidays arguing with your grandma about why Maya Rudolph was an underappreciated member of SNL? You might have a problem. But we have the cure! More Ten to One!

Episode 29 - Austin Butler (SNL Season 48)20 Dec 202201:03:53

Ol' Bubonic Brad is back from the dead to join Ben and Nate to talk about the latest episode of Saturday Night Live featuring host Austin Butler. We saw Jewish Elvis and Cathy Anne and had a blue Christmas saying goodbye to longtime (and legendary!) cast member Cecily Strong. Ben got offended by a whale joke, Brad doesn't like the taste of marzipan, and Nate doesn't like white elephant exchanges or... fun... in general.

It's the final episode of Saturday Night Live for 2022. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and everything in between; it's time for the Ten to One.

Episode 28 - Steve Martin & Martin Short (SNL Season 48)14 Dec 202201:09:48

In solidarity with Saturday Night Live having two hosts this week, the Ten to One Podcast also went with the stellar two-some of Ben and Nate as Braddy Two Shoes was under the weather. And finally, after 27 episodes, some academic professionalism was brought to your favorite SNL rewatch podcast. As the resident Dickens scholar, Nate dissects the Charles Dickens sketch while Ben, the professional that owns a truck, talks about hauling human waste in buckets.

The Steve Martin and Martin Short episode brought us some great sketches, a few missed moments, and two lousy Weekend Update bits. Nevertheless, it was a fine addition to Saturday Night Live's 48th season of shows.

As a bonus, Nate and Ben talk about Entertainment Weekly's recent article "The best Saturday Night Live cast members, ranked" and who they'd add and subtract to the list. So put your headphones on your Walkmen and enjoy a new episode of the Ten to One!

Episode 27 - Keke Palmer (SNL Season 48)06 Dec 202201:05:50

And we're back! Keke Palmer is pregnant and hilarious, Sarah Sherman is a real-life muppet, Kenan and Kel reunite, and Michael Longfellow has a nudist stepdad. In short, the latest episode of Saturday Night Live gave us an incredible first-time host (Keke Palmer) and some of our favorite sketches of Season 48. And all it took to get such excellence was to ship Brad to Utah! Who knew?? Plus, after only 27 episodes of the Ten to One Podcast, Ben finally admitted his undying love for soap opera legend Susan Lucci.

Friends and foes, Saturday Night Live is back from break, and so is the Ten to One Podcast.

Episode 26 - Dave Chappelle (SNL Season 48)16 Nov 202201:03:24

For the third time, Dave Chappelle appeared on Saturday Night Live. And for the third time, he appeared the Saturday after an election. But unlike 2016 and 2020, this time felt a bit different. And the Ten to One guys have some opinions about it. But that's not all that was discussed in this episode. Oh, no! Which one of the hosts had a super awesome Home Alone Talkboy? Should Sarah Sherman be considered for a future Weekend Update host? Who should host in the second half of the season? And, as always, we picked a castmember MVP and sketch-of-the-night.

We're not quite as lovable as Molly Kearney, but we're still worth the listen. It's time for another episode of the Ten to One Podcast.

Episode 25 - Amy Schumer (SNL Season 48)09 Nov 202201:02:10

The Ten to One Podcast is a podcast made by simple comedy lovers for simple comedy lovers. We don't operate under many rules of comedy, but an immutable law states that if someone wears a big dumb prop hat that progressively gets absurdly large during the sketch, we will laugh.

Amy Schumer returned for her third appearance on Saturday Night Live. While not all the sketches were great (here's looking at you, tired political cold opening formula), Schumer gave us a hilarious standup/monologue, a few great sketch performances, and a really big dumb hat. We talk a bit about our experiences with jury duty, which former SNL star loved the Jets, whether James Austin Johnson's Biden impression can compete with his Trump impression, and big dumb hats.

So, grab yourself a Fruitcake Mountain Dew, put on some comfy stretch pants, and let's discuss this week's episode of Saturday Night Live on the Ten to One Podcast.

Episode 24 - Jack Harlow (SNL Season 48)01 Nov 202201:05:34

Saturday Night Live has given us plenty of legendary sketches on their annual Halloween episode, including Matt Foley's scary story, Stefon's hottest Halloween tips, Trick-or-Treat with Jon Hamm, and Haunted Elevator. In 2022, Jack Harlow added Joker Wedding, Halloween Red Carpet Show, Horror Movie Trailer, and the return of Ibiza's own David S. Pumpkins.

And, though we couldn't name three Jack Harlow songs under the direst duress, we are certified podcast reviewers of chicanery on Saturday Night Live. Cecily Strong is back. Tom Hanks paid a visit. And our favorite Drunk Uncle (Bobby Moynihan) told us why he doesn't celebrate Halloween (Falloween is also completely off the table.)

So, get some clearance Halloween candy from your local grocer, put on your favorite pair of JNCO jeans, and enjoy a new episode of the Ten to One Podcast!

Episode 23 - Megan Thee Stallion (SNL Season 48)18 Oct 202200:57:57

It was the third episode of season 48 of Saturday Night Live, and host Megan Thee Stallion pulled double booty duty, Bowen Yang got brought, and Kenan Thompson couldn't see the dang deer.

We have a new episode of the Ten to One Podcast, and we're answering the following questions: So… what's y'all's trauma? Does Nate have a pancake butt? How would we rank the first three episodes? What does Brad really know about cuticle maintenance? Neville Longfellow. Michael Longbottom. Who cares?

We'll review each sketch, discuss the episode MVP, and pick a favorite sketch of the night. It's the Ten to One Podcast!

Stuart Smalley Saves More Than His Family: A Deep Dive into ‘Stuart Saves His Family19 Jun 202400:48:16

Welcome back to the Ten to One Podcast, where your SNL-loving hosts, Brad Oman of Slashfilm.com, Nate Loucks, and Ben Konowitz, dive into SNL-inspired films during the show's summer hiatus. This week, we explore the 1995 film "Stuart Saves His Family," led by Al Franken and directed by Harold Ramis.

Whether you are a long-time fan of Stuart Smalley or simply curious about this unique aspect of SNL's filmography, join Brad, Nate, and Ben on an episode filled with laughs, insights, and even some daily affirmations. Remember, as Stuart would say, "You are good enough, you are smart enough, and doggone it, people like you." And we like you too, we think.

Don’t forget to subscribe to the Ten to One Podcast on your favorite podcast app to ensure you never miss an episode. And now, without further ado, let's get some therapy with the Smalley family!

Episode 22 - Brendan Gleeson (SNL Season 48)11 Oct 202201:00:01

After a so-so premiere episode, Brendan Gleeson brings the goods for the second episode of the 48th season of Saturday Night Live. Viewers were treated to a Bowen Yang-hosted game show, a googly-eyed Sarah Sherman, some new content from the Please Don't Destroy guys, and blood... so... much... blood. Brad, Nate, and Ben talk about their mutual affection for the new cast members (Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker) and disagree over the Try Guys, whoever they are. SNL is back in full force, everyone, and so is the Ten to One Podcast.

The Ten to One Podcast is an hour-long seasonal podcast hosted by Go Flix Yourself hosts Bradford Oman (aka Ethan Anderton at SlashFilm.com), Ben Konowitz, and Nate Loucks. They discuss every sketch from each new episode, rate the host, and pick their favorite player of the evening.

Episode 21 - Miles Teller (SNL Season 48)05 Oct 202201:02:30

Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Kyle Mooney, Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseñor, Aristotle Athari, and Chris Redd have exited stage left, but Brad, Nate, and Ben are here for another season of the Ten to One Podcast, breaking down each episode of Saturday Night Live. From the instant classic sketches to the Caribbean Girls, the Ten to One Podcast is here for it all.

Fresh off the success of Top Gun: Maverick, mustache-less Miles Teller kicked off the first episode of SNL Season 48. Ben thought the episode was a decrescendo, Nate wondered when Ben learned about musical theory, and Brad fell in love with a spotted lanternfly. We were all impressed with Michael Longfellow and unimpressed with a weird roided-out Grimace. It was an episode of a few highs and many lows, but altogether rejoicing that Saturday Night Live is back again.

Episode 20 - Natasha Lyonne (SNL Season 47)26 May 202201:03:54

Lorne accidentally gifted Pete Davidson a sock, so he's free. As are Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Kate McKinnon. But, we get one more episode to enjoy with the entire Season 47 cast, including Natasha Lyonne as the host. The guys dissected each sketch and pre-tape and talked about the loss of the four cast members while wondering if this is a more significant loss than the Season 38 departures (Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, Tim Robinson)? Join in on the fun and let us know what your favorite sketch was on Facebook or Twitter.

Bradford Oman (aka Ethan Anderton at SlashFilm.com) and his friends Ben Konowitz and Nate Loucks will discuss every sketch from each new episode, rate the host, and pick their favorite player of the evening. Plus, there are bound to be stupid bits and dumb tangents.

Episode 19 - Selena Gomez (SNL Season 47)19 May 202200:56:17

Even great hitters sometimes strike out (thas sah.) And, though it's been a good - if not great - season of Saturday Night Live, we were bound to have one or two bad episodes. But, not all is lost. We got some great stuff from Sarah Sherman, Steve Martin, and Brad finally got the gag he's been begging for all season; bubble butts.
