Breaking Old Models: Systems Thinking for a Thriving Future with Dr. Marissa Levine25 Aug 202500:58:50

In this powerful debut, we sit down with Dr. Marissa Levine, renowned leader in public health and systems thinking, as she explores what it truly means to build communities where everyone can thrive. Drawing from her experience in medicine, academia, and government, Dr. Levine kicks off the series with the kind of insight, heart, and vision you can expect in every episode.

Dr. Marissa Levine is currently the managing director of Envision WellBeing, LLC whose focus is to facilitate the design of communities where all can thrive. Dr. Levine recently retired from the University of South Florida where she was Professor of Public Health Practice in the College of Public Health (COPH) and collaborating faculty to the Department of Family Medicine and the Division of Infectious Diseases at the USF Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida. Her primary focus there was on the development of leaders for population health improvement. Dr. Levine directed the USF Center for Leadership in Public Health Practice at COPH where she taught a positive, strength-based, systems thinking approach to leading in complex contexts, called regenerative leadership.

Dr. Levine is also a retired family physician with 16 years of medical practice experience including as residency director for a family medicine residency. She subsequently completed 16 years of state government service culminating in being appointed as the Virginia State Health Commissioner and agency head for the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) from 2014-2018. As Commissioner, Dr. Levine led the effort to create an action framework for population health improvement called Virginia’s Plan for Well-Being and led significant public health emergency preparedness and response activities as the state ESF-8 lead.
