Ep. 58 - Supply Chaney Update24 août 202500:23:06

I recently accomplished the goal I set in January of hitting 10k followers by the end of year.  Don't hire me to do forecasting! ha!

Given the significance of this milestone I took a moment to reflect on the journey thus far, show appreciation, and share what's coming next, basically a "State of Supply Chaney".  For a little extra fun I grabbed my mic and camera and used this as an opportunity to record my first monologue podcast.

A summary of everything that Supply Chaney does along with shout-outs to supporters and role models that helped them get started or keep going:

🎙️ Blythe Milligan, Chris Jolly, and Kevin Lawton, CLTD for inspiring me to launch a podcast.  Surgere and Michael Schwabe for being the first podcast sponsor. Curtis Pogue for being my first podcast guest and eventually joining the adventure, serving as the producer of the podcast.

📺  CSCMP - Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, AGiLE Business Media & Events, DC Velocity and Gary Master for being the first to support my event coverage efforts.

👥  Christopher Pride for being my go-to from day zero of Supply Chain Social Club and jumping in as the Co-Founder.  The New Warehouse for being the first partner, launching the #WarehousingAfterDark series, and Amelia Gangi for helping out with SCSC over this past summer.

🗓️ Caleb Jones for being my first sounding board to launch the event calendar and interns Madison Lawrence, Parul Dhar, Ankita Bhardwaj, Marina Sorola Yoshida, and Nicole Salinas who helped maintain the calendar and supported other social media efforts.

🗞️ The 36 contributors to the Supply Chaney Digest weekly newsletter.  Too many to tag everyone, but you all know who you are!

What's next?  Focused effort on being an authority on events and networking, a collaborative crowd-sourced book, and refining internal systems and processes to be a more efficient and proficient business.  Onward and Upward!

Ep. 14 - 3PL Matchmaking and Commercial Real Estate11 sept. 202400:38:30

In this conversation we talk with Summitt Hogue, Founder and Managing Partner of Growe, an industrial real estate brokerage that exclusively represents 3PLs.  Summitt shares his background growing up in Lubbock, Texas, and his initial aspirations of becoming a farmer before transitioning into real estate in DFW and ultimately making a bold move to start Growe with a unique approach to differentiate himself in the industry.  The high point of Summit's career (and one of the most inspirational stories shared on the podcast) was the story of perseverance in securing a deal with Growe's first client, a company he had been pursuing for eight years and that started with waiting in a conference lobby that he couldn't afford to attend, hoping to spot the company owner to strike up a conversation only for the owner to think he was a hotel attendant helping with his bags!  The unique approach of Growe, focusing on 3PLs and acting as a matchmaker, has attracted competition, but the company's deep knowledge of the industry and ability to find the best deals sets them apart. Summitt emphasizes the importance of supply chain expertise and the value of building strong relationships with 3PLs.

Ep. 13 - Supply Chain Media & Events04 sept. 202400:36:55

Our guest today is Gary Master, CEO of @AGiLE Business Media & Events.

We start the episode learning how Gary had hopes of using his economics degree to run the Fed but ended up taking part time job with a supply chain consulting firm that he worked at and eventually took over and ran for a number of years.  He and some partners noticed a lack of media coverage for distribution centers and teamed up to start a media company centered around DCs, in the middle of a recession!

Other topics covered include the challenges and opportunities in the changing landscape of media and events, including the shift from print to digital, measuring marketing impact, the need for speed (and accuracy) in media communication with a cautionary note about AI in media.  Gary revealed that his most memorable conference moment was when Pfizer spoke about what it took to distribute Covid-19 vaccines: "Some people didn't get toilet paper. Some people didn't get their wipes when they needed it, but we did it. The vaccinations went out."
