License to Thrill… Your Audience - 28521 Mar 202400:21:32

The other day I had a talk planning call with a potential client, and he said:

“I just want to get consistent results. Sometimes I start my talk and I can feel the energy shift, and I know I’ve engaged them. But other times, I just can’t get their attention, and I want to understand how to do this consistently every time I speak.”

The truth is that grabbing your audience’s attention in the right way, (or ‘hooking’’ them in, as I call it), is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for a successful talk.

The first 180 seconds of your talk is perhaps the most crucial, and that’s because in those two to three minutes you are communicating a lot to your audience without even realising it.

In this show, I’m going to show you how to make the most of that time, and to avoid the bear traps I so often see speakers falling into at the start of their talk.

Enjoy!

What you’ll learn:

  • The messages you are communicating to your audience before you even start speaking.
  • The big mistakes a lot of speakers make with the start of their talk.
  • Why you should go for quantity over quality when you are looking for great ideas.
  • The questions you should ask yourself before you ‘settle’ for a talk title, open and close.
  • Why you should be provocative and what to do after.
  • If you want to be heard stay out of the ‘herd’
  • The way to make your talk unique.

And more!!

Storytelling. The Long and Short of It - 19428 Oct 202100:16:38

There is no doubt that stories are the most powerful vehicle for getting your audience to buy in emotionally to your message. BUT you have a limited amount of time to get your story across before their attention starts to wander.

Even TV, movies or books that you have chosen to engage with, have a finite time to grab your attention, before you switch off, and in the world of speaking and marketing, that window of time is even smaller.

In this show, I’m going to be sharing the what and the why of tiny stories that pack a big punch, so that you can make sure you're not missing your opportunity to make your message land.

Enjoy!

What you’ll discover:

  • The urban myth that started a tiny story trend.
  • Why you need to blend micro stories into your speaking and marketing toolbox.
  • How you can pull all triggers for attention in just a few words.
  • Examples of tiny stories.
  • The steps to creating a tiny story.
  • The difference between micro stories and snackable stories

And lots more!!

Why We Need to Treat Our Audience Like Ebenezer Scrooge - 18923 Sep 202100:15:23

As you know I believe that speaking is marketing, it’s an opportunity to influence and inspire an audience to make a change.

But getting anyone to shift perspective and do something differently is as challenging as getting a river to alter its course.

For most of us the status quo is more comfortable and subconsciously feels ‘safer’, even if it isn’t leading us to where we say we want to go. So … when you only have a short amount of time with your audience, how can you possibly motivate them to take action?

That’s what this show is all about. I’m going to be sharing the dynamics of change with you, so that you understand what levers you need to pull, and then I’m going to show you how to move them in the direction you want to go.

Enjoy!

What you’ll discover:

  • The dynamics of change.
  • Why time is our friend in influencing change and what we can learn from Charles Dickens.
  • How this strategy works even if there is no tangible evidence for making a change.
  • The critical ingredients for making this strategy work.
  • What next?

Best Of: The 4 Steps to Framework Success in Your Public Speaking - 18709 Sep 202100:18:12

Have you got a framework that pulls your IP together and makes your idea, product or service more memorable?

I believe if you haven’t - you should!

Recently, something happened with one of my mastermind members that brought the content of this episode to mind.

She had been stuck with her messaging and content - yes, she was moving forward but it felt like she was wading through treacle, rather than being inspired, energised and motivated.

Then a conversation happened at a networking meeting which helped her to identify a framework for the process she takes her clients through.

Suddenly the clouds parted and this is what she said …

“This framework could then form the basis of all my conversations … I have to say it’s got me all fired up!”

So, if you’re lacking in motivation around your messaging, perhaps creating or refreshing your framework might help!

What’s also important is when you find it, you share it in the best way, and that’s why I’ve dug this episode out of the archives for you.

Enjoy!

What this episode covers:

  • Why frameworks are important
  • How to make your audience engage with the framework before you even share it with them
  • How the same teaching framework will enable you to flex your talk to fill five minutes or five hours!
  • When you should stay at the strategy level and why.
  • The one thing you should always do with your framework to get your audience motivated to implement what you’re sharing.

Why You Need A Signature Sign Off - 18525 Aug 202100:15:41

One of the things that is critical to success in business and speaking is building your brand.

And a big trap that many people fall into, is failing to share how they add value in a way that makes their brand and message memorable.

The problem is that if you’re not memorable then you won’t be recommended or referred, and if people forget who you are they can’t look you up.

That’s why a great ‘signature sign off’ is something I recommend all my clients and students to craft, so that they minimise the risk of being forgotten.

But, there are some important things to get right and pitfalls to avoid when you’re putting this together, and that’s where this show comes in.

Enjoy!

What you’ll discover:

  • The number one mistake people make when introducing themselves.
  • The three ingredients you need in your signature sign off and why.
  • Why you need to become synonymous with the problem you solve.
  • The power of imagery in making your message sticky.
  • How to pique their interest.
  • Why you need to build a community around your take on the problem.
  • The parting shot and why it needs to be meaningful.

How to Harness the Power of Subconscious Communication with Paul Ross - 18419 Aug 202100:47:49

If you can get your audience to believe what you believe then there is a strong chance that they’ll buy into your idea, product, service or movement.

There is an art and a science to achieving this and a big part of this relates to the language you use with your audience. That’s why I’ve invited language expert Paul Ross onto the show.

Paul is on a mission to teach entrepreneurs and sales people how to powerfully increase their results through the power of subconscious communication.

He has spent 30 years helping people fall in love with the power of language to influence, persuade, sell, and turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones.

He's a Master Hypnotist, Master Trainer of NLP, author, and speaker, and he’s been regularly featured on media outlets including BBC, Fox, CNN, NBC, The Huffington Post, Uproxx, and Rolling Stone.

His talks get rave reviews and he has helped tens of thousands of people to successfully harness the power of subconscious communication to achieve their goals.

What you’ll learn:

  • How language moves the unconscious mind towards making a decision?
  • How you can use metaphors to create powerful connection, understanding and rapport with your audience.
  • Why you should aim to be less specific with your language.
  • Why you should consider what state of mind you want your audience to be in and how to get them there.
  • The three sentence phrase that you can use at the start of talks and webinars that can massively increase sales and why it’s so powerful.
  • What pattern interrupts are and when to use them.
  • Advice for tackling objections without being pushy or salesy.
  • Why it’s not enough to get your audience to know, like and trust you.
  • How Paul puts his talks together.
  • The three things you need to believe to be good as a speaker.
  • Audience connection and getting the balance right between content, stories and humour.

Level Up Your Lives With These Nine Tips - 18312 Aug 202100:24:30

For many the choice between swimming in shark infested waters or going live on social media is a tough one. But because it can play such a powerful role in building your brand, authority and following more and more people are, (often reluctantly), going live.

The trouble is that whilst there is absolutely merit in going live regularly to get through the fear and build your confidence, the content produced when you’re ‘having a go’ can often be dull as dishwater.

If you’re going to take the plunge, and do some live speaking on social media, there is no reason you can’t do it well from the start.

That’s where this show and my nine tips come in.

These tips will form a kind of ‘essentials checklist’ for you to follow, so that you can be confident that your ‘lives’ are moving you and your audience forward on the journey towards working together.

Enjoy!

What you’ll discover:

  • How to be more strategic with your lives, so that they are actively moving your business forward.
  • Why you must be specifically intentional with each ‘live’ you do.
  • Why you need to be ‘one and done’.
  • The optimum length for ‘lives’.
  • The technical stuff you must nail.
  • Branding and background matters
  • How to ensure you deliver like a pro.
  • What JK Rowling can teach you about Facebook lives.
  • How to become the most powerful person in the world.

Enjoy!

Saving Lives through Storytelling with Gareth Lock - 18128 Jul 202101:03:47

Gareth Lock has been involved in high-risk work since he left school in 1989. He spent 25 years in the RAF in a variety of front-line operational, research and development and systems engineering roles which has given him a unique perspective.

In 2005 he fell in love with diving, started his training and is now an advanced diver. As he was learning and diving, Gareth couldn’t help but notice issues within the industry that increased health risks and potential loss of life. So, in 2016 he formed The Human Diver with the goal of bringing his operational, human factors and systems thinking to diving safety.

His work in diving safety and performance development is all about telling context rich stories that help people learn through adverse events. Over the past five years he has trained more than 350 people face-to-face around the globe, and taught nearly 2000 people via online programmes.

He has also sold more than 4000 copies of his book Under Pressure, which contains 30 stories of events, and has also produced a documentary, “If Only’, which tells the story of a fatal dive and how it might have been avoided.

In this show he is sharing his own story and how he uses speaking and stories to inspire change.

What you’ll learn:

  • What started Gareth on this journey.
  • The impact of focusing his business on a very small niche.
  • How stories fit into his business.
  • Why and how he created a documentary film and what happened as a result.
  • What is meant by a ‘just’ culture.
  • How Gareth has used speaking to building his brand, authority and business.
  • How he gets the balance right between educating and engaging.

Tips for Remembering Your Talk - 18022 Jul 202100:20:43

In my experience, the impact of the fear of forgetting what you want to say manifests itself in three big ways:

First there are the group of people who put off, or give up on their dream of speaking and sharing their message… and this can lead to negative self-talk, low self-worth, and the anger and frustration of comparisonitis.

Then there are the people who compensate for this fear of forgetting by having their talk as text on their slides, or having a full script that they read from. This will likely sabotage their success because the audience will become bored and disengaged.

The third group is the ‘wing it’ brigade. They’re also compensating for the fear, but they do it by not preparing properly. Very few people will do a good talk here, and it’s more likely their message will be rambling, and maybe the audience will be paying attention, but only in the way that people do when a car crash is happening.

In this show, you’ll hear me working with one of my TSC Live members who wanted to get some tips for remembering her talk. If you would also like to improve your recall and content confidence, then you’ll find this useful too.

Enjoy!

What you’ll discover:

  • How your memory is better than you think it is.
  • How to break down a talk so that it’s easy to remember.
  • Why you can’t inject personality without content familiarity.
  • The power of letting go.
  • Why you need to separate your ‘creator’ and ‘critic’ sides.
  • Why your introduction should not be the first thing you do.
  • How powerful metaphors can be mental signposts for you.
  • What to be mindful of using autocue.
  • Why the high level structure of your talk is the most important thing to commit to memory.
  • There is no magic wand to replace rehearsal and practice.

Making Your Brand Uniquely You with Becky Benfield-Humberstone - 28322 Feb 202400:57:46

Not too long ago I heard one of the gurus in my space say that one of the big factors in his success is that when everyone else ‘zigs’, he ‘zags’. You can see ‘zigging’ going on all around you, suddenly everyone wants to be a neurodiversity expert, or an AI expert, because that’s what’s hot, because they are chasing the trend.

But what if you don’t do that? What if you go your own way, and stay true to who you are and who you want to help?

That is the path that Becky Benfield-Humberstone has chosen right from the get go. A born entrepreneur, Becky left school at 16 to start her own super niched business, Utterly Horses, which became the largest model horse stockist (yes, it’s a thing) in Europe, with a product range of over 2,500 items that retailed to a customer base of over 50,000 people and corporate clients. After successfully exiting that business in 2018, Becky wanted a new challenge.

That’s when she created Brand Artisan, and in that business she has been helping business owners bring their visions to life, stand out, and exponentially grow their businesses. She is joining me here to talk about all things branding, storytelling and marketing, and I know you are going to pick up some golden nuggets from her.

What you’ll discover:

  • How Becky started an international business at 16.
  • The problem Becky solves today.
  • The difference between brand strategy and marketing strategy.
  • Why keynote speakers need a brand.
  • The big branding you might be making in business.
  • Where stories fit into the work Becky does.
  • Why Becky bucks the trend and only works with one client at a time.
  • Where speaking fits in.
  • Why Becky created the Founders project and how you can get involved.

The 4% Mindset and Why You Should Think Like Apple with Iain Cahill - 17410 Jun 202100:48:59

Iain Cahill is a qualified accountant, with over 30 years’ experience creating and investing in businesses as well as providing financial mentoring to other Business owners and he’s on a mission!

In the early 90’s Iain Cahill started a company in the catering industry with his sister, a while later he took a break to take his accountancy exams. When he returned the company had run into financial trouble, and Iain had to find a way to pay off the debts, a significant proportion of which were overdue tax payments.

Having just studied taxation and the opportunities available to big organisations to make them work in their favour, Iain wondered if small businesses could adopt the same approach. This set him off on a mission, one which not only salvaged the reputation of his first company, but led to him identifying what he calls the 4% mindset, which is at the heart of what he does today and the market disrupting businesses he has created.

Enjoy

What you’ll learn:

  • The 4% mindset, what it is and why this matters for entrepreneurs and the communities they live in.
  • Why small business owners need to treat themselves as the ‘principal company shareholder’.
  • Why financial literacy should always come before social media strategy on a business owners development plan.
  • The economic wars that are underway at the moment, and why they will result in a new financial landscape.
  • The vehicles that Iain has created to help small business owners leverage the 4% mindset in their businesses.
  • The difference these have been making to entrepreneurs and small businesses.
  • The biggest objections Iain comes across and how he counters it.
  • Why you need to ‘walk the walk’, before you ‘talk the talk’.
  • Why you should craft a talk, then let go of a script.

Shifting from Awkward to Awesome in Public Speaking (Part 2) - 17303 Jun 202100:19:58

I was asked to do a session for Catherine Gladwyn’s membership on ‘How to Nail Public Speaking’... I didn’t chose that title… I can certainly get you a long way forward, but even I can’t teach you to nail public speaking in an hour!

In order to deliver the most value to this group of entrepreneurs and business owners, I asked Catherine to ask them a couple of questions…

  1.     What problems / fears do you have around public speaking?
  2.     What do you want to be like?

We had some great responses.

The top five fears centred around lack of confidence, concern about looking or feeling inadequate, forgetting what to say, and two around delivery in terms of filler words and being clear and articulate.

The top five desires were to be confident, relaxed, natural, interesting and entertaining and to have a presence.

So I created this interactive talk, which I’m sharing across two episodes, to move them closer to overcoming those problems and becoming the speaker they want to be.

And I hope it helps you too!

What you’ll discover:

  • The honest admission I make about one of their biggest fears.
  • The experience I had with a troll.
  • The decision you need to make in relation to other people to be able to become a great speaker.
  • What confidence is and how you build it.
  • What you share when you feel completely comfortable.
  • The three ingredients to becoming a great speaker.
  • A framework for nailing the intention of your talk.
  • Why you should avoid talking about how brilliant you are.
  • How you should hook your audience in at the start of your talk.
  • How you add value to the audience.
  • The reasons why stories are so powerful and you should be using them.
  • Why you should repurpose the same story and how to do it.
  • The different ways you can use stories in your talks.
  • Why you need to let go of worrying about perfect delivery and what you should concentrate on instead.

Enjoy!

The Secret Stigma that Turned into a Superpower with Lexa Wokersien - 17119 May 202100:52:11

Lexa Wokersien has had a career in marketing and communications for 17 years, and during that time, in addition to juggling the demands of her job, she has been keeping a big secret.

Worried about what it would mean for her career should it come out, she has struggled alone to find workarounds and tools that will enable her to fulfil her potential despite being at a significant disadvantage to her peers.

Recently, Lexa came on my Snackable Story Challenge and over the course of five days she found that she had a powerful message to share.

Lexa is dyslexic, and she wants to tell her story so that other people in the same situation don’t have to hide away and cope on their own like she did.

When I heard about her journey and the potential her story had for showing other people with dyslexia that speaking and storytelling are possible for them, I knew I had to have her on the show.

What you’ll learn:

  • What made Lexa decide to keep her dyslexia secret
  • How she managed to keep it hidden for so long
  • The stigma and shame she was trying to avoid and what toll it took
  • How it affected the way she approached her career
  • The new attitude she has towards her dyslexia and what shifted her perspective.
  • What she would say to a younger version of herself looking back from today.
  • The tools and techniques she has developed over the years to help her in her marketing role.
  • Why organisations should embrace hiring a dyslexic person.
  • Why she decided to take on a speaking challenge with me and what happened.
  • The unexpected side effects of developing her storytelling and speaking skills.
  • The new possibilities that have opened up for her and her future.

How to Avoid Drowning Your Future in the Well of Intention - 17013 May 202100:15:00

There are some areas of my own life and business where I’ve not been getting the results I want. No matter what I’ve tried I just can’t seem to get it to work, and it’s been frustrating and upsetting and a few times I’ve wanted to throw in the towel.

But recently, I discovered that I might be making the same mistake that countless numbers of us do, a mistake that leads us down the path of suffering and away from the island of success.

If there is any aspect of your life or business where you have or are experiencing similar feelings, then take a listen as this might apply to you too!

What you’ll discover:

  • The difference between ‘attention’ and ‘intention’
  • The big mistake that many of us make that drowns our desires in the well of intention.
  • How you are supposed to use them together.
  • What you need to do to maximise the chances of your intention being realised.

Best Of: Psychological Speaking Success with Richard Wiseman - 16906 May 202100:49:51

This episode was originally released a couple of years ago, and it definitely meets my ‘best of’ criteria.

Richard Wiseman is a powerhouse in many different worlds from entertainment to academia. He’s a multiple best-selling author, renowned academic, global speaker, and youtube influencer, which really doesn’t even scratch the surface of what he does!

Suffice to say he’s a man of many talents…he started off in magic and still acts as a creative consultant to the world’s best magicians and illusionists, TV shows, and movies…and if he’s not advising on them he’s presenting them. He is a Professor of Psychology, and his research has been published across the world, alongside being a 12-time author of some of the most popular business psychology books today. His books have been translated into over 20 languages, and many of them explore the science of success, and focus on practical, evidence-based, techniques that improve people’s personal and professional lives.

Alongside all of this he’s spoken globally for the likes of Google, Amazon, and The Royal Society, has two YouTube channels ‘In 59 Seconds’ and ‘Quirkology’ that have over 2 million subscribers and 500 million views. Described as one of the most “innovative experimental psychologists in the world today”, he’s clearly got lots to share on the secret of success, how to make your stuff, (even science stuff), engaging

Enjoy!

  • What are the genuine lessons of magic for performers and speakers
  • Why you must understand things deeply to explain them simply
  • Why speakers must find a skin they’re comfortable in
  • How authenticity is a skill to be developed rather than a quality you have.
  • Why you should throw your book away before you prepare a speech on it.
  • How military tactics can be used as a planning structure for presentations.
  • The most vital two minutes of your talk and tips for making this successful.
  • The difference between performing and showing off and why this is important for speakers.
  • How Richard uses humour in his talks, (including practical examples).
  • Why the audience must believe it’s the first time you’ve done your talk… every time.
  • How Richard adapts his talk depending on the audience.
  • How to get the balance right between education and entertainment.
  • A trick for getting people to remember the most important message of your talk or conversation.
  • Richard’s top 3 tips for making your content engaging
  • Why talks are like soap bubbles.

So many people worry about using umms and ahhs when they speak ... and some speaking organisations and coaches make the elimination of filler words a big focus.

But do they matter?

In this show I want to share why we use them, and to make the case for and against focusing on getting rid of filler words. We’re also going to look at the psychological trick we play against ourselves that contributes to this fear.

Finally, I’m also going to give some strategies for eliminating them, if you really feel they are getting in the way of you becoming a successful speaker.

What you’ll discover:

  • Why we use filler words
  • The case for eliminating them.
  • The case against eliminating them.
  • My view about filler words.
  • Strategies for eliminating filler words.
  • Next steps.

Getting Results with the Law of Attraction ...Whether You Believe in it Or Not! with Andrew Kap - 16615 Apr 202101:04:15

A load of old rubbish, or the secret to unlocking everything you’ve ever hoped and dreamed of?

Those are the two sorts of reactions that you get when the subjects of ‘Manifestation’ and ‘The Law of Attraction’ come up.

Like many, I watched ‘The Secret’ and was ever so slightly skeptical that if I visualised a Maserati turning up in my garage it would happen … (I actually don’t have a garage, so I would have been doubly impressed!) But over the past two years I’ve been actively exploring the Law of Attraction and manifestation and I’ve had results with it that I can’t ignore… that’s why I wanted to bring Andrew Kap onto the show.

Andrew is the author of “The Last Law of Attraction Book You’ll Ever Need To Read” and it offers readers a different take on it from the usual books you’ll find. It addresses WHY people who get excited about trying it still can’t manage to get in the habit of using these methods for just five minutes a day.

The book has enjoyed continued success, including over 1,500  five-star rave reviews, #1 Best Seller status in multiple categories on Amazon, and a growing YouTube channel devoted to it.

I’m getting the low down on his work and how he manages skeptical audiences too!

Whatever your current position on it, I hope you’ll listen with an open mind to what he has to say … you never know it might change your life!

What you’ll learn:

  • How Andrew discovered the Law of Attraction and how he used it when his life fell apart.
  • The results he’s personally experienced using it in his life and business.
  • Why we consistently fail to get results in different areas of our lives, even though we know exactly what we need to be doing.
  • How Andrew was taking a risk when he chose the title of his book.
  • Why Andrew didn’t include many stories or social proof in his book.
  • How Andrew presents this topic to a cold audience to give his message the best chance of landing.
  • Why you don’t need to believe in it or care about the Law of Attraction for it to work.
  • The side benefits of practicing gratitude in your life.
  • The biggest obstacle to people getting results using the Law of Attraction in their life and business.
  • Why you should let go of the ‘when’ and the ‘how’ and surrender to enjoying the experience of living in the future you want right now.
  • How mindfulness and the Law of Attraction are connected.
  • The ‘Time Lapse’ method that Andrew used to bring abundance into his life and how to use it.
  • The five minute gratitude tool that can get you results in just five minutes a day.
  • Why there’s no way to do these techniques wrong if you’re having fun.
  • The ‘Story Scripting’ and ‘Instant Replay’ methods that can make you the movie director of your life.
  • How Andrew uses speaking and storytelling build his audience and get his message out there.
  • How your ego is keeping you from succeeding with the Law of Attraction and in other parts of your life or business.
  • Why you shouldn’t be looking for a perfect life.

[Quick Tip] How to Show Authority Without Shoving it in People’s Faces 28230 Jan 202400:22:46

Itunes Summary (45 Words):

Quick tips to build your speaking confidence, skills, impact, business or engaging talk content. These tips originate from issues that come up for students, and questions from my audience. If you want to get your question answered DM me on Instagram or LinkedIN @Saraharcher15.

SHOW NOTES

If people believe that you can deliver what they want and need, they will book you to speak, or buy your products or services. But in showing them that you can deliver there's a fine line between confident and cocky, and if you cross that line, it can push people away… and you don’t want that.

So … how do you show authority without shoving it in people’s faces?

Well that’s what I’m going to talk about today. Here’s what this show will cover:

  • A definition of authority in this context

  • The five ingredients for building authority authentically

  • Why you need to convince yourself first and how to do it

  • The next level of self-awareness that has made all the difference to me

  • Why ‘it has to be ‘you’ - 100% of the time

  • The real way to show you’re an expert

  • Tips for breaking down barriers

Stop Sabotaging and Start Soaring! - 16508 Apr 202100:18:35

If you feel that there is a gap between where you are with your speaking and where you want to be, then chances are this show will give you an insight into what might be causing it and how to begin closing it.

That’s because in this episode, I’m going to be sharing how I believe you need to ‘be’ as a speaker, if you’re going to use speaking to successfully build your audience, business or movement.

The greatest speakers, those who light up the space and the audience, have four things in common. They are natural, inspiring, compelling and engaging… NICE. I believe that being a NICE speaker is something that is within everyone’s grasp, but some people sabotage themselves before they’ve had a chance to fulfil their potential.

That’s why I’m going to be sharing the things that can sabotage your success and those that can make you soar.

What you’ll discover:

  • The complementary episodes.

Unblock the Dam and Set Your Stories Free! - 16401 Apr 202100:25:02

My life and business revolve around stories… in my downtime I love reading, watching and listening to them, and in my business, I tell, teach and write them. But it’s not just my life that stories impact… they underpin the fabric of all of our cultures, religions and societies, and they can bypass defences, connect with us, and build bridges like nothing else can.

Whilst the power of stories has always been there, it feels like their potential is just being realised in the world of business and I think it’s true to say that if you are not using them yet in your business to market your products or services and build a relationship with your customers then you are missing a vital piece of the puzzle.

In my experience of working with clients both on the speaking coaching and the marketing side, there are two things that get in the way of people using stories. The first is not being clear on what is meant by story… and the second is doubting you have any interesting ones to share. In this show I want to tackle both of those barriers and move them out of the way for you.

Enjoy!

What you’ll discover:

  • The power of stories.
  • Why stories are vital in speaking and marketing.
  • The myth of creativity.
  • The critical ingredients for creating stories that sell.
  • What a story is and must do.
  • Different story examples.

Enjoy!

How to Spend Your Time Wisely with Catherine Gladwyn - 16325 Mar 202100:47:12

If you’re hustling day and night, but finding you’ve very little to show for it in terms of results, then don’t worry you’re not alone.

One of the biggest complaints you’ll hear from people in business is that “there’s not enough time in the day”... any yet many of us are wasting so much of it without even realising.

This can cause overwhelm, stress, anxiety and potentially burnout… and that’s why I wanted to bring Catherine Gladwyn on this show.

She’s an expert business mentor and multi-award winning #1 bestselling author of two business books. In 2018 The Independent newspaper listed her first book as one of ten best business books written by women and since then she has gone on to be featured in many national publications including The Guardian, Forbes, Cosmopolitan, etc.

Catherine has learnt through experience and necessity how to protect and value her time.  That’s because as well as enduring a recurring brain tumour, she also lives every day with Addison’s disease.

After needing four months off in 2019, she has now designed and built her business so that if she ever needs surgery again, her business can continue on without her, keeping her finances and business presence secure.

In this show, she’s not only sharing how to keep your business safe, but also how to grow by doing less.

What you’ll learn:

  • Why valuing Catherine’s time became a necessity
  • The difference between knowing what you need to earn and knowing your hourly rate.
  • Why creating time boundaries is important, and where you should implement them first.
  • The benefits of outsourcing.
  • What you should outsource first and why.
  • How Catherine uses a VA in her business to to accelerate her growth whilst minimising time and effort.
  • What not to outsource.
  • Why and how to find a replica of you.
  • Tips on finding the right support.
  • Advice on delegating and how to ‘let go’.
  • Why Catherine believes ‘avatars’ are overdone.
  • Catherine’s 20% rule - what is it and why you should care about it.

The 4 Step Formula for Smashing Interview Presentations! - 16218 Mar 202100:24:23

The news that you’re going to have to do an interview presentation can result in a number of different reactions. Frustration and worry, overconfidence, or a complete meltdown that can even lead to withdrawing your application!

It’s understandable why people can feel nervous, or cavalier about them. Often you get just a title, if you’re lucky maybe a few lines of a brief, and if you’re unlucky maybe you won’t know what you’ve got to present on until you arrive at the interview.

Even in the best scenario, where you have a bit of a brief, it can feel like you have very little control, like you don’t really know what they want and so you either get analysis paralysis or you decide to ‘wing it’.

What I want to do in this show is to shift you away from these reactions, and show you a formula that you can apply to interview presentations.

Using these four steps will put you back in the driving seat, and build your confidence, so that you can be satisfied you gave it your best shot.

What you’ll discover:

  • How to mentally set yourself up for success.
  • The lessons I learned from a golf psychologist that can help you too.
  • The dots you need to connect between the job and the  presentation.
  • The universal preparation questions you need to ask yourself.
  • The maths exam technique you need to apply to interview presentations.
  • Tips for your interview presentation design.
  • How to get the edge over the competition.

Enjoy!

Supercharging Your Presence & Audience Connection with Brett Hill - 16111 Mar 202101:10:40

After graduating with a degree in interpersonal communication, Brett Hill ended up becoming a technology expert, before bringing the two strands of technology and communication together to create a distinguished and successful career as a technical speaker and storyteller.

Alongside that career, Brett has spent many years studying and practicing mindfulness in many forms.

He studied Hakomi, a mindfulness-based somatic psychology with founder Ron Kurtz and he also trained as a facilitator in Matrix Leadership group dynamics with founder Amina Knowlan, before  establishing the Quest institute meditation center in Dallas.

He credits much of his professional success in the corporate world to the skills and tools he picked up from the mindfulness world he also moved in.

Eventually, the desire to share the many benefits of mindfulness with others, so that they could live a richer and more powerful life of intention and connection, led to the work he does today.

I’m excited for you to discover some of those benefits from this interview.

What you’ll learn:

  • How Brett stumbled from a degree in interpersonal skills to becoming a technology expert.
  • What a technical evangelist is.
  • The broken heart that led Brett to find his future.
  • Why we need to pay attention to the physical sensations we experience ‘in the moment’.
  • How we can diffuse potentially explosive situations and influence conversations by harnessing the power of mindfulness.
  • The problem that Brett’s work helps people solve.
  • What it looks like and sounds like to others when someone is being truly present with them.
  • How mindfulness can help you avoid confirmation bias and create new possibilities.
  • The correlation between using language intentionally and mindfulness.
  • The trap that many speakers fall into in relation to their audience.
  • How to practice mindfulness in your day to day experiences.
  • Tips for using mindfulness to make your presentations more powerful.

Can You Make Boring Subjects Sexy? - 16004 Mar 202100:17:45

Let’s face it… on the surface some topics look dryer than the Sahara Desert… and a lot of people will get blocked from sharing their message because they struggle to see how they can make it interesting.

But I don’t believe there’s any subject that you can’t make engaging for an audience.

So, if you’ve dreaded your turn to pitch at a networking meeting, or you’ve said “no” to speaking opportunities, or you’ve stopped yourself from doing a podcast, video or webinar because you think your subject is boring, then this is for you.

In this episode, I’m going to show you that anything can be made sexy, and how to do it.

What you’ll discover:

  • Why there are no boring subjects
  • How you can make ordinary extraordinary
  • The three laws involved in making a message go viral and how they apply to your speaking
  • The four tools you can use to make any topic sexy
  • Examples of making ‘boring’ subjects sexy

Enjoy!

How to Master Your Mind and Memory with Anthony Metivier (Part Two) - 15925 Feb 202100:48:15

There are some obvious benefits to improving your memory if you’re a speaker, or you need to use speaking as part of your job or to grow your business. Remembering your content, people’s names, complex information to name but a few… BUT besides these valuable advantages that improving your memory brings, there are other positives that make it a compelling goal.

That’s why I am so pleased to have Dr. Anthony Metivier as a guest on this two-part show.

Anthony is an experienced memory expert, author, professor and memory improvement teacher, and is known as a bit of a rebel in the world of mnemonics, because of the different approach he advocates.

Since confronting his own negative beliefs about his memory, and seeing the amazing results he achieved, he has taught thousands of students in three different countries to achieve incredible results too.

What you’ll discover:

  • The difference between encoding and decoding in relation to memory, and why you should try and exercise all your different types of memory.
  • What aphantasia is and why Anthony thinks it’s a myth that causes a lot of unnecessary suffering.
  • Why you shouldn’t be afraid to share your opinions, and the benefits of being polarizing to grow your audience.
  • Why it’s important to know a bit of the science behind how memory methods work.
  • Memory Palaces and how you can use them to improve your long term memory for learning languages and many other things.
  • Anthony’s three tips for helping you remember your talk.
  • How Anthony used his memory methods to remember his TEDx.
  • How speaking fits into Anthony’s business model.
  • Why changing the way he prepared for his talks helped Anthony’s reach and impact.

Karmic Selling - How to Win Big and Feel Good with Stan Gwizdak - 28118 Jan 202400:57:13

Most of us have experienced sales ‘tactics’, and likely we’ve either recoiled against them and scarpered (physically or digitally), or have gone ahead with our needed purchase, even though a little bit of shine has worn off the relationship with the person that used them on us.

Our experiences have made us sceptical of anyone with something to sell, and allergic to feeling ‘salesy’ ourselves.

But whether we like it or not, we’re all in the business of selling something to someone, whether that’s ourselves as a speaker, our book to a reader, or our products and services to clients and customers.

So … I guess that means you have to ‘suck it up’ and jump on the soft and hard sell bandwagon if you want to succeed.

Well no … you don’t.

That’s because there is another way that will likely yield you more reward in sales and personal satisfaction than anything you’ve come across before.

And that new approach is called Karmic Selling created by my guest Stan Gwizdak.

Stan Gwizdak is CEO of The Kormac Group, a results-driven management consulting firm that embodies his clean heart and commitment to serving others. As a chief executive and Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Stan has spent more than 30 years leading business transformations at General Electric, BAE Systems, Honeywell, Textron, Aurora Capital, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, and more.

Stan is here today to talk about Karmic Selling and the successes and failures that helped him design his system and grow his company.

Whether you’re a speaker, sales executive, entrepreneur, you’ll discover why when you do good, even more good will come your way.

What you’ll discover:

  • Why Stan believes that the traditional approach to sales needs to change.
  • What made Stan leave a company just before he was due to take the top job.
  • How he approached getting clients for his company without having a sales background.
  • How he took a one man band to a business competing with the big consultancies.
  • The problem that Karmic Selling solves for individuals and companies.
  • The three biggest mistakes people and companies are making around this problem at the moment.
  • The key ingredients of the Karmic Selling System and how it counters those mistakes.
  • The first few steps you should take if you want to get started using the karmic Selling philosophy and system.
  • How Stan is using speaking in business and to promote his book.

The Seven Sins of Storytelling - 15528 Jan 202100:21:13

Whether it’s books, film, television, newspapers, or the internet, it is true that those who tell the stories have enormous power to influence.

I believe in today’s digital world great stories are also the secret to standing out, making people care and successfully selling online

As a comedian, writer, speaker and performer… (not to mention years as an HR professional relying on influence over power)...stories have been the golden thread running through my life.

Over the past thirty plus years, I’ve researched, studied, practiced, written and performed stories, and I’ve had successes alongside failures. Each experience has taught me something valuable, (including there is always more to learn), and I wanted to share some of those lessons with you.

So, to help you wield this magical communication tool more powerfully, here are my seven storytelling sins for you to avoid!

What you’ll discover:

  • The start counts
  • Opening up is the way to connection
  • Why you need to look at things from the other side of the fence
  • Structure for success
  • The villain less void
  • Why you should share the stakes
  • Without a journey there’s no real story

Enjoy!

Your elevator pitch is one of the first and most important marketing assets you need to get together. It’s also likely to be the first bit of public speaking you do related to your business.

Considering both the significant positive or negative impact it can have on your business, it’s surprising how few people invest in learning how to create and deliver it with power and impact.

But that’s not you...because you’re here!

I want to make sure you avoid the mistakes that can sabotage your success, that’s why, in this show, I’m going to be sharing my 12 pitching pitfalls.

This episode will help you make your pitch a platform on which you can build your speaking confidence, build meaningful business connections and build your sales.

What you’ll discover:

  • What your brain and a nightclub bouncer have in common.
  • Why you should be a condiment and not the main course.
  • The messaging guru that could be living in your house.
  • Why you need to become an evangelist for the problem.
  • How to discover the pain for massive gain.
  • Why you need to embrace objections.
  • Why features sabotage the sale.
  • Why you need to infuse your message with passion.
  • How to avoid falling at the last hurdle.
  • Why you shouldn’t disrespect the room.
  • How to build your confidence.
  • Why you need more than one pitch.

Enjoy!
