You’re Not Lost—You’re Being Called03 Jun 202500:29:16

Purpose.   Meaning.   Clarity.

Do you ever feel like you’re chasing these in your life and just as you reach them, they, poof, slip through your fingers?

You’re not alone.

In this episode, Stephanie and Maren unpack what it really means to pursue this power trio — not as a destination, but as a living, breathing practice.

Society treats them as boxes to tick, and that’s part of the problem. Today’s episode explores going beyond what you’ve been taught to a deeper kind of listening, into the path of inner mastery.

Being in conscious relationship with yourself, your mission, and the larger world around you is the road less traveled. It’s not easy, and it may be exactly what’s calling you - as it is for so many of the high achieving leaders that work with Maren & Stephanie.

Here’s a question to ponder -
👉 Do you know the difference between purpose and mission?
Spoiler: One tends to come from ego. The other? It whispers from the soul.

In addition this, they also explore:

  • Why clarity is not a one-time achievement but an evolving, sacred process
  • How to tell if your “purpose” is actually ego-driven
  • The real meaning of mission—and how it emerges through both joy and hardship
  • Why leaders who seek depth must get comfortable with not knowing
  • The trap of cultural quick-fixes—and how to trade those for sustainable inner practice
  • How collaboration (not competition) is the soil where your mission grows
  • The truth about being “all alone” vs. “all one”—and what that means for your leadership

If you’ve ever hit a wall, lost your way, or questioned everything just when you thought you had it figured out—this episode is for you.

Clarity doesn’t come from efforting harder. It comes from slowing down, tuning in, and being willing to walk the long arc of becoming.

Ep 184 Emotions Aren’t the Enemy: Turn Your Chaos into Clarity20 May 202500:32:18

When your emotions are all over the place, it’s easy to fall for everything and anything. You’re easy to manipulate.

On some level you know this, so you tuck those damn emotions aside, ignore them or try to control them - which only makes things worse. They come out at the most inopportune times.

Sound familiar?

The truth is, emotions are not a flaw to be overcome, they are one of the amazing gifts of being human. They are literally energy in motion, and as such, not only feed us, but are also a powerful path to healing what ails us.

Working with (instead of stuffing, ignoring or controlling) emotions gives you space to listen and to respond rather than just react. It engenders clarity and empowers healthy decisions. It calms the nervous systems and decreases stress.

This is an essential skill for all of us right now for what it can heal - individually, and collectively.

“If we don't feel, we don't heal.” ~Stephanie J. Allen

There is a negative feedback loop running - thoughts and fears and emotions that fester and create inner AND outer toxicity. The good news is that we are the antidote.

It’s a choice inside each one of us.

In today’s podcast, Stephanie and Maren share stories, inspiration and tangible tools to help you shift your internal relationship with emotions so you become your own cure, as well as a kind of “healthy virus” in the world, infecting the people around you in the best, most beautiful way.

When you work inside, it changes, both the internal AND the external. You impact the world around you just by being who you are.

Are you ready to explore emotions differently and find your inner treasure so that you can live it and share it with those you love and with the world?

Listen in and let’s make some shift happen.

  • 0:32 Everything conspiring
  • 1:28 Clean break
  • 5:09 Happening ‘for me, or to me’ choice
  • 8:27 If you don’t feel you don’t heal

Play - the Leadership Skill for 202507 Jan 202500:44:58

As humans we’ve downplayed, or completely ignored, two essential life skills: playfulness and intentionality. As leaders, we are completely missing the boat. Adding lightness to our lives is the skill we most need to cultivate.

In this week’s podcast, Maren and Stephanie along with their team members, Dave and Lori share the crux of soulful leadership - leadership that heralds play, imagination and positivity - each from their unique perspectives.

“This is what has brought me into the soulful leader realm. Is matching with people that are similar and heart like minded and that want to lead with integrity and intention” ~ Lori

Covering everything from Positive Psychology to emotional regulation and intelligence; from the impact of nature/surroundings to the benefits of community and shared experiences; the thread that runs through all of it is the open sharing of both experiences and practices.

This is an engaging, insightful episode filled with practical ideas as well as questions that will push you to an even better 2025 and beyond. Questions like: “How are you going to lighten up?” And “Where does the play fit in your life for this year?”

Please let us know your relationship to these questions - and share our podcast with a leader that would benefit from ‘lightening-up’

Beyond Burnout w/Michelle Leotta17 Jan 202300:51:56

Do you know the symptoms of burnout? Do you ever ignore ongoing physical ailments so you can 'just keep going'? If so, you might be like today’s guest who was 'pushing through' her life thinking her exhaustion, dizzy spells and other chronic issues were ‘normal’.

This week's very special guest, Michelle Leotta, experienced burnout herself and decided to dedicate her life to not only studying it, but to helping women heal this very pressing issue. Stephanie and Maren often talk about the ‘inward journey’ and sometimes there are ‘outer’ steps that must be addressed before we can look within.

Sometimes we’re so overwhelmed with life that we don’t even know where to start. Michelle knows what that's like and is helping women make space in their lives to get healthy. You can access her free stress assessment here.

If you are in ‘overwhelm’, going from thing to thing, and need some support, this podcast is for you. Michelle gives us some really wonderful guidance around burnout, how to recognize it and how to overcome it.

  3. What do you feel is my greatest achievement?
  4. What is my most interesting and unique feature/aspect?

This may be the most important episode we’ve done. As we head into the holidays, we are surrounded by the desire to gift our family and friends with love and kindness - an awesome thing to do! In today’s episode, Maren & Stephanie talk to Erin Attere, a woman who left her 6-figure job in corporate America to change her life, her family's life AND the lives of women worldwide. This powerful episode invites us all to think more deeply about how and where we put our money… are we spending it? Or investing it?

Erin shares her powerful story ... one that will both empower and inspire you. She also offers an option for gift-giving this holiday season that can make a positive impact.

Unwrapping Presence24 Dec 202400:21:13

Have you ever struggled with any aspect of the holiday season?
If so, you’ll want to tune into today’s podcast.

If you could do holidays differently, what might that look like? And why?
What would it mean to you to get you in touch with your own inner presence and your gifts?

Mass consumerism, big business, advertising and social media have co-opted our holidays. AND, we’ve internalized the pressure to do ‘all the stuff’, be everything to everyone and to have all parts looking ‘just right’. All of this is at our own expense. We are the casualties.

👉🏻 Most importantly, we are also the solution.

In this week’s podcast, Stephanie and Maren talk about holidays from a different perspective - from the internal. They:

  • Share how they empower themselves at the holidays
  • Delve into the word holiday (holy day, hole-y day, filled with holes)

“There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” - Leonard Cohen

If you’ve ever struggled with any aspect of the holiday season, you will appreciate this podcast. Please share it with a friend that might benefit from hearing it as well.

Slow Learners: the Secret to Mastery15 Nov 202200:35:02

“...but Susie makes it look so easy…”

Is there a version of this that you say to yourself?
Be honest.

We are ALWAYS comparing ourselves, and yes, even our learning process to those around us, and we usually come up short. Why? Because we compare ourselves to the people who are already where we want to be! We don’t look at those behind us, or take into consideration all the elements that got the ‘greats’ to where they are. We just want to be there… now.

Today, Maren and Stephanie talk about the cultural and personal damage this ‘way-of-doing’ creates, and how damaging it is to leaders, teams and businesses. They also share great information on the antidote… ‘slow learning’ - what it is, how to embrace it and the crazy benefits! What beautiful world it would be if everyone could value their own, unique slow learning process!

  • 1:00   Being a slow learner - shame, blame and other judgements
  • 4:52   Why ‘fast’ learning can mean forgetting and not not valuing
  • 12:37 Yes there are benefits of being a slow learner!
  • 19:20 Slow learning - the essential element to creating the future you want
  • 28:03 How ‘drift’ is part of the slow learning process.

***note from Maren*** Right after we recorded this podcast I opened an email from one of my favorite seed companies, Terroir Seeds. They included this quote in their email, which was so perfectly timed, I had to share it with you:

“Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.”
~ May Sarton

Poor Sad Tomato08 Nov 202200:39:18

“You've been down there, Neo. You know that road. You know exactly where it ends. I know that’s not where you want to be.” ~ Trinity, The Matrix

We are all searching.
Like Neo, we know there is more to life. Yet we don’t know how to access it ...and then we either feel sorry for ourselves, or we chastise ourselves.

In today’s episode Maren & Stephanie laugh about, AND debunk, the ‘poor sad tomato’ stories we tell ourselves that keep us living the same lives, on repeat. More importantly, they share the most powerful tool we all have in our toolbox, going ‘vertical’.

Learn what ‘going vertical’ means and how you can use it in your life.

Sacred Relationships with Stu Murray01 Nov 202200:49:35

Who are we beyond what we do?

When Stu Murray almost died and lost his career, and his identity, as a pro footballer, he made the choice to find out. His amazing journey led him to become a leader, lover and visionary… from the inside.

What a beautiful podcast. We had the honor of interviewing Stu this week. We talked about everything from what defines a leader, to relationships, to yoga, to his mission to change the education system.

Everyone will come away from this podcast with their hearts a bit more open.

  • 3:59 our unknown impact in the world
  • 7:19 Stu’s life - changed forever
  • 12:34 yoga as a transformative practice

  • 32:09 sacred relationships
  • 36:15 India, changing education and connecting to the voice within
  • 42:18 the direct path to changing the education system

“I want to see the silos of education, the math, the science, I want to see these blown out of the water and create days for kids where they can be led by their passion, led by their curiosity, and led by their drive to make a difference in the world.” ~ Stu Murray

Want More? Give More. Shifting Your World with Generosity25 Oct 202200:25:19

Have you ever looked under the hood of ‘generosity’?

  • What does generosity mean to you?
  • Why does it matter?
  • Could you be ‘generous’ with yourself?
  • How might that impact your life? Your business?

This episode was recorded soon after the week that hurricanes Ian & Fiona impacted Canada and the USA. Often tragedy brings out the best in humans and today Stephanie and Maren discuss the generosity Stephanie experienced… and then some. They fearlessly address both the concepts AND practices of generosity.

  • Generosity as a practice in business
  • The fear of asking for help - and it not being there
  • Giving back shaped Stephanie’s life - inwardly and outwardly
  • The practice that will shift you out of living in ‘lack’
  • Real generosity - giving without knowing the impact
  • Accepting the generosity of others
  • The being-ness of generosity
  • Starting with being generous with yourself

They end the episode with a wonderful Practice of ‘I Am Enough’. As you sit with that this week, share what comes up for you in the Facebook or LinkedIn group!

Transcending Expectations11 Oct 202200:34:14

Did you know that there is an antidote to expectations? There is, and it's not what you'd 'expect'!  How do you know if you're living from a place of expectations?  What's the alternative?

One of our listeners asked about expectations in our Facebook group and it sparked an amazing conversation. From dissecting expectations and where they come from, to just being done with them... Maren and Stephanie hold nothing back.

In this episode, they use some very specific examples to get into the nitty gritty of this great topic, including addressing:

  • Feeling broken and the 'not-enough' disease (Not good enough, Not doing enough, etc)
  • What to do with the fix it mentality and its domino effect
  • Personal Will and the Soul's Will: Your Soul wants something more for You
  • The stuff that stays stuck in our cells creating dis-ease
  • What is encoded in your DNA?
  • Exit stage left, except it comes back around, so maybe look at it now
  • The antidote to expectations
  • Is it a breakdown, or a break though?
  • Rebellion, resignation and the whispers of our soul
  • There is an alternative to chase, chase, chase...

"The moment you let go of expectations, your serenity will improve ."~ Stephanie J. Allen

Did you notice any expectations in your own life of which you were ready to let go?
If we were to dedicate an episode of our podcast to a problem that you're currently facing, what would that be?

Your Ego Wants to Figure it Out, There’s a Better Way04 Oct 202200:31:27

Does your ego need a time-out so your inner leadership can get some time-in?

When you are on the surface of the water you’ll be tossed about by any weather patterns that come by. This is so often where we get stuck as leaders… and we’re taught ‘self care’ techniques like taking a bath and going to a yoga class. These are helpful, and when the s**t hits the fan; they're not the solution.

This week Maren & Stephanie go into the inner leadership that allows leaders the space to go deep, past the choppy waters and the currents to the stillness that’s beyond the ego. This is the inner leadership of Self Love.

“The only destination worth reaching is to know and love your true self.” Stephanie Allen

Stephanie and Maren address this ‘ego’ challenge (that all leaders face) from multiple angles including:

  • Physical issues
  • The clutter that’s left behind when someone leaves, or passes and the metaphor of clutter that’s inside us
  • The story of ‘deer’ and the ‘demon’
  • Your pain is not punishing you, could it be helping you?
  • Lynn Twist’s story of the Bird of Humanity
  • Upleveling the stories in our lives

The Place Beyond Mastery27 Sep 202200:28:51

Do you ever feel tossed and turned like a small vessel on the waves of the ocean? Then you’ll want to listen in! Stephanie and Maren go into practices that take you beyond the surface of life into the depth and the meaning, into the joy and peace, into the love and the oneness.

This episode is profound beyond words and the deep sweetness of it will touch your soul. How do you invite spirit in? What does that mean in the ‘doing’ of our lives?

Follow along as, among other things, Stephanie shares a poignant story from 10th grade and Maren ties the musical mastery of John Coltrain into your everyday life.

The questions and practices at the end of this episode are particularly powerful. We hope you’ll share your insights with us in one of our communities.
------

As a side note - this episode was recorded before last week’s podcast with Daniel & Jill. Maren mentions ‘hoping Daniel will be on an upcoming episode’, well, that happened, and it was released last week (Episode 67: Your Life’s Impact). If you missed it, go back and listen. It’s one of our favorite episodes and will change your life.

------

There were some powerful questions at the end of this week’s episode. How did they land with you?

Three Questions That Will Change Your Life w/Daniel Goodenough & Jill Taylor20 Sep 202200:53:06

Your life's impact is calling you and it's THE most important conversation you’ll ever have.

Today, Maren & Stephanie have the honor of interviewing their teacher, mentor and coach of 20+ years Daniel Goodenough along with fellow traveler and business transformer, Jill Taylor.

Daniel knew why he was on this planet before he was three years old, to help others wake up to, and find their life mission. His vision is a world in which every person who wants to know their ‘why’, their life mission, will have a resource within reach.

We have forgotten the errand of the one that sent us. Our culture is lost and our civilization is calling us to wake up. You know it. You feel it. It’s time.

As poet and mystic Rumi says “It would be as if a king sent you to a village on a specific mission. If you went and performed a hundred other tasks, but neglected to accomplish the task for which you were sent, it would be as though you had done nothing.”

Stepping up to the conversation about your life mission is the single most important thing you will do in your life.

We hope you will join us for this powerful, engaging conversation where you'll learn the three questions that will change your life.

Daniel shares his wisdom about life mission and how it is related to vision, purpose, and passion. Jill shares her experience of changing corporate America by taking the life mission conversation into the world of business.

This is a whole new paradigm, personally and professionally.  This is nothing short of changing everything.

If your heart knows that there is something more, something beyond the mundane. If you are feeling called to living your all-lit-up, fully-alive Life. You will LOVE today’s podcast.

Expanding Options and Embracing Possibility13 Sep 202200:29:39

As leaders, our job is to find solutions to problems. At the end of the day, our ability to solve or not solve the challenges before us determines our value - both in the external world, and how we view ourselves.

What if you could expand the solution set and find more options with better end results?

Today’s podcast explores that inspiring and empowering rabbit hole and includes:

  • The quality of the answer depends on the quality of the question
  • What it means that our school system teaches us ‘What to Think’, not ‘How to Think’, and why it matters
  • We are limited by the questions we ask, so how do we ask better questions?
  • The one word to change in “What should we do?” to completely uplevel the answer
  • The woman who is doing half the work and making twice the money
  • Having the space to hear the answer(s)
  • What it really means to ‘not be on this journey alone’.
  • The power of giving your mind an assignment
  • Dropping into the infinite capacity of the heart

As usual, Stephanie and Maren ended with a question for you… “What quest would you like to move towards? And what would be a good question for you to live into?”  Please share your ‘quest’ and your insights in one of our Soulful Leaders groups.

From Drama to Empowerment10 Dec 202400:25:54

Think about that time when you were so irritated you could barely see straight. That’s emotional hijacking - it happens more than we notice AND it costs us way more than we realize.

It can cost you a client, a team member, a partnership or even your reputation. As a leader, you definitely want an alternative.

In today’s podcast, Maren and Stephanie talk about Maren’s personal experience of being emotionally hijacked that led her to almost transfer her emotions onto her husband.

This vulnerable, real and funny discussion travels through the Drama Triangle (victim, violator, rescuer), the importance of creating a safe space within oneself and the role of imagination in shifting out of the drama. Most importantly, Maren and Stephanie share a favorite tool to break the drama cycle and literally build new, more empowering pathways in the brain.

  • 00:31 Complete irritation
  • 04:04 Safe space
  • 06:55 Drama Triangle
  • 10:37 An alternative, space to re-story
  • 15:54 Five versions
  • 20:01 Where to start, the power of practice
  • 24:11 Co-Creation Circle

Does this type of work interest you?
Be sure to check out Maren & Stephanie's 2025 Co-Creation Circle. It’s built for leaders that want to go more deeply into changing their world, into making shift happen - from the inside out.

From Rigidity to Flow: Breaking Up the Concrete that Keeps us Stuck06 Sep 202200:31:19

Do you ever get so stuck you’re not sure where to turn? As leaders, it’s easy to feel the need to have the answers …and then we feel like we have to defend our position, we dig in! That never feels good, and rarely works out well.

Today’s podcast explores what it could mean to wait and explore multiple answers, putting more energy into the quest than into a right-now, concrete, one-and-done answer. Our culture has taught us to value having the ‘right’ answer instead of investing time into deeply exploring the question and going beyond the quick fix.

Einstein is reported to have said that if he only had one hour to solve a problem he would spend 55 minutes defining the problem and the remaining 5 minutes solving it. Today, we’re taught to immediately go to the solving. We're lucky if we spend five minutes exploring the problem before we’re expected to provide possible answers.

How does this connect to flow?

That’s the exciting part that Maren & Stephanie explore this week with anecdotes, detours and fun stories. Including the story of Stephanie’s client who ended up with twice the income and half the work and the rowing story that busts the myth that working 24/7 is better

Join them for this engaging exploration all the above plus:

  • Breaking out of the ‘quick fix’ cultural conditioning to find beauty, joy, abundance and space
  • What is active surrender and why does it matter
  • Remembering that we are conditioned (see Ep 60 w/Shelly Cooper)
  • Creating space for ‘rest in the mind’ which equals serenity
  • The most productive recovery to activity ratio is three (rest/recovery) to one (pushing)

The Intuitive Therapist w/Peter Stuart30 Aug 202200:48:07

Sometimes you hit a brick wall and don't know where to turn. As a human, this can feel overwhelming, as leaders, it can feel threatening.

That's where this week's guest, Peter Stuart, excels. After experiencing that angst personally, multiple times, he dove fully into learning how to see what's behind the curtain. When all roads lead to a dead end, there is an answer ...and Peter found that one of his gifts listening to that answer, making the space to hear what's going on behind what appears.

As a therapist, his specialty is chronic pain and he works with people who have tried every  avenue and have not yet found relief. As a teacher, he's sharing what he's learned not only to help other therapists to become better at their craft, but to empower all people to listen to themselves.

Stephanie and Maren were honored to talk to this man who lives in his heart and walks his talk. The process Peter goes through with his clients is the same one he goes through with himself.

They are excited to share this powerful interview which dives into everything above as well as:

  • Sir Thomas Moore's decision NOT to become a monk after 7 years of study, and why that's important
  • The journey to business as 'unusual' and not sacrificing income for impact (or visa versa)
  • The body is a self correcting mechanism, so what is getting in your way of healing?
  • How an aversion to oil led Peter to find his real passion
  • We all have that innate ability to really listen to our guidance, so how do we clear out enough space to really listen?
  • Healthcare means health in mind, body, spirit and emotion.
  • Reading the book of life.
  • How Peter's ADHD diagnosis and 'bumping into things' were his advantage, and his advice to others who have been diagnosed, or told they weren't good enough.
  • Being at home in your heart.

Peter also generously shares a beautiful, powerful and empowering practice for breathing into your heart (link to guided meditation).

"Breath is confirmation of how much you are loved." ~ Peter Stuart

Living a Life of Meaning23 Aug 202200:25:14

Do you have a niggling sense in the back of your mind telling you ‘there’s more’?
More to life, more to why you’re here, more to working than making money so that you can retire?

Stephanie and Maren both know what it’s like to have that itch, that knowing, and they’ve invested most of their lives exploring it, getting to know the voice and developing an ongoing conversation with the meaningful life that’s been calling them.

While the Soulful Leader Podcast, as a whole, is built to spark and engage the inner calling in each of us, today’s episode speaks directly to reminding us that we are here for a reason and how we can go deeper into our own personal meaning.

“I found for myself that when I step into my calling fully, 100%, the most amazing and magical things happen, not just for me, also for the people around me.” ~ Maren Oslac

A few highlights from today’s episode:

  • Maren’s gift... wrapped in frustration
  • Getting reminders WITHOUT the shame and blame game
  • Beyond the need to fix something, or judge it
  • What somebody else thinks of you is none of your business
  • People are as bad as we need them to be
  • Change IS scary, that’s real
  • Being enough …AND having room for more
  • Sometimes it isn't about developing, it's uncovering or unfolding
  • We’re meant to learn, and then unlearn
  • The minefield of changing those we love
  • Talking to yourself with compassion

“There is a way to evolve with love, and meaning and purpose, and joy and abundance, and liking and loving yourself though it.”  ~ Maren Oslac & Stephanie Allen

Our question to you this week:

What is the gift that showed up in your life this week, beautifully wrapped in a complaint, a frustration or a challenge, and what gift did you get out of it?

The Power of Small Moments09 Aug 202200:28:17

What are the most transformative moments in your life? Graduation? Getting married? Having children? Career accomplishments?  They very well could be. They might also just be milestones, goal posts, or markers for the powerful small moments that incrementally allowed you to become a new version of you, the person who could do each of those things.

We have choices in each moment of our day, how we will respond in any given moment, if we will move forward with awake awareness and intention, or be carried along with the status quo. These moments are especially important for us, as leaders.

Today, Maren shares a story of how choosing to become more aware in one small moment changed her as a person and altered the trajectory of her life. It started during podcast 56: Trust and the High Cost of Gossip when she was inspired by something Stephanie said in passing. Instead of glossing over it, she chose to dig deeper and challenge herself, and magic happened.

This is an engaging and uplifting conversation that covers everything from the power of the small moments in our lives, to quelling the inner mind chatter, to making space and choosing a new way of being... one small moment at a time.

We'd love to hear one of your 'small moments that led you to moving a mountain'! Please join us in one of our Soulful Leader Communities:

Up-level Your Vacation26 Jul 202200:21:54

How often do you need a vacation from your vacation?

Last week, the podcast was about needs vs. wants and this week Maren and Stephanie take that discussion into the practical realm of vacations. Much of the northern hemisphere takes time off in August - time to spend with families, get away from work, do something for ourselves and to recharge our batteries. And we come home a bit worn down, with a lack of energy, drained just when we need our energy the most.

What if, instead, you could get maximum return on your time off, the time you’ve invested? What if the fun you’ve planned actually happens AND the deeper level ‘needs’ get met? So you come home with a fully charged battery ready (and excited) for what is next.

Stephanie and Maren not only help you shift your perspective from vacations (vacating-ions) to holidays (whole-I-days), they really dig into “what are your needs?” and “how are you going to get them met?”

As humans, everything we do follows the intentions we set. As leaders, we are use this awareness at work, most of the time we don’t consider it when we take time for ourselves. The result? We come home feeling like we need time and space even though we just took it!

This week's episode includes:

  • Working while on holiday- messy assumptions, reality and setting boundaries
  • Alternative thoughts - is your work your passion? you may want to take it with you, or you may need some time away
  • Using a holiday to break the habit of being yourself
  • The opportunity of your holiday… how do you want to evolve
  • Intentionally planning your time away to get your needs met
  • Creating and consulting ‘the Oracle’
  • Getting physical needs and wants met automatically ...by flipping the script
  • Clear yes and no boundaries
  • Holidays as a playground for retirements.
  • Allowing yourself more space, more freedom, more money

“I believe we're here for a reason, both Maren and I do, and that we need to make space for that reason to actually emerge. And that's our dialogue and conversation with the one who sent us. So another great opportunity to take a holiday, or a 'whole I day', so that you can make that space to have that conversation with your heart with your soul to say, who am I? Why am I here? And what what am I being called to both give and receive in my next chapter?” Stephanie J. Allen

Navigating Needs and Wants19 Jul 202200:21:18

We don’t give much thought to the difference between needs and wants. We often lump them together. Yet they are significantly different and understanding that difference will change the way you live, and the way you lead.

Humility - asking for what you need instead of manipulating people to get what we want
     - from The Big Red Book ACoA

Maren and Stephanie start off by covering the difference between the two and discussing how to make space in your own life to know for yourself. As usual, they use plenty of great examples that put, you, the listener right in the middle of the conversation.

If you’ve ever:

  • wanted something FOR someone else (client, team member, spouse) so badly that you could taste it
  • wanted something FROM someone (client, team member, spouse) and were disappointed
  • thought that you REALLY needed something, but got something else and realized it was better than what you said you wanted
  • been challenged in working with a team member of any sort…

THIS podcast is for you.

You may not want to hear it, but that’s your ego telling you that you know what’s best. The ‘silo’ mentality- disengaged from the flow of life (I know what’s best, I’ll just do it myself, it needs to be done my way, etc) -is what we are taught, and it has a very high cost

The good news is, Stephanie shares an amazing 3 step practice from St. Francis of Assisi to get out ego and into alignment with life, and spirit, and right timing for all involved.

Is Your Comfort Zone Killing You?12 Jul 202200:28:03

When there's something that's calling you (i.e. you want something), every issue or challenge between you and that thing will come up. It's so that you grow as a person and evolve as a human, and it can suck.

You get stuck. Overwhelmed. Frustrated.

You feel like you've done something wrong.

And it's easy to get pulled off track. Either pushing through with force -at the expense of relationships, health, etc., or giving up.

There is another option and Stephanie and Maren explore this discussion with depth and passion. What is our comfort zone and how does it work against us? How do we navigate and NOT get stuck? There are answers, and TONS of gifts along the way…

Here are a few highlights:

  • leadership attitude: you can make it easy or make it hard
  • growth happens at the far point of equilibrium
  • acknowledge it and it no longer has power over you
  • the gift of fear
  • love and kindness can reveal whole new directions
  • working the muscle of embracing the unknown
  • the dragon is holding the treasure
  • tackling one thing  expands your whole world
  • Einstein's imaginal experiments
  • beginner's luck
  • breaking the 'I've done something wrong' habit
  • surprise and delight

As always, we want to hear from YOU!

  • What do you do when fear comes up?
  • How do you tackle it?

Trust and The High Cost of Gossip05 Jul 202200:32:38

There are 4 levels of communication and most of the time we chatter away at levels 1 & 2. We talk about the weather, TV shows, people and events... it all seems harmless enough, we're polite and fill space, or we vent to get something off our chests, and move on with our day.

But is it really harmless? Especially for us as leaders... are we building the trust, the level of relationships, that we want with our teams, or even with our families or friends? Or are these conversations eroding and deteriorating the very thing we're trying to build?

Maren and Stephanie really pull this topic apart, examine it from all angles and ask some tough questions. Stephanie shares her own struggles and how she educated the people around her by setting a boundary and sticking to it. Maren brings in the 4 levels of conversations which leads to a great discussion including:

  • examples of each level of conversation
  • the cost of both outer AND inner gossip
  • stopping to start
  • getting our needs met
  • the vulnerability of silence
  • the power of the pause
  • how to use questions to shift a conversation from one level to another - without shame or blame!
  • creating conversations that deeply connect us, beyond time and space
  • the road less traveled

Beyond Figuring It Out26 Nov 202400:26:19

You are not the problem.
The way you were taught to solve problems is actually limiting you.

Rational thinking is inherently limited - mainly because we’re not meant to stop at ‘rational’, we are meant to keep evolving.

Einstein said that you cannot solve that problem on the same level that created it. That means traditional problem-solving methods are insufficient for addressing our modern societal issues and personal challenges.

It's time for us to go beyond what we currently know and do, we need to develop ‘trans-rational’ awareness. Trans-rational awareness is real, and embracing it requires each of us to let go of who we think we are.

That may seem confusing and scary, and there is a process.

This week, Stephanie and Maren:

  • break down this cutting edge subject
  • talk about why ‘figuring’ has left us in a bind
  • share options for how to move to the next level
  • use migraines as an example
  • introduce two upcoming programs that build skill with transrational tools
  • share the answer to the question so many hold in their hearts - “Why bother?”

If you are frustrated with escalating issues in your own life and the world, there is a better way. Today's podcast does more than scratch the surface - it provides tangible tools to foster deeper, more meaningful and impactful lives. It provides hope.

  • 01:00 If you could have figured it out, you would have already
  • 03:50 Beyond the figuring; trans-rational
  • 07:57 The role of meditation
  • 11:29 Why bother? For you and the world
  • 13:38 There is another way, breadcrumbs and science
  • 17:55 Where do I begin? Presencing life.
  • 23:54 Pig Latin

Danger is Real, Fear is Optional: Can Your Mind Tell the Difference?28 Jun 202200:25:42

How often as leaders are we inspired, we gather our courage and go for it, an opportunity presents itself... and then a few days, weeks or months later we get plagued by the self-doubts, the fears, the 'what-was-I-thinkings'?

The itty bitty shitty committee comes up, and questions you... Are you sure? Aren't you comfortable being the old you? Wasn't the old you enough? Come on? But weren't we happy?

You KNOW the answer, no, no you're not happy. But your mind has confused fear with danger. The 'knowing' that you had starts to feel eroded and buried. You're being derailed by fear.

"I have an acronym for fear it’s-  false evidence appearing real." ~ Stephanie J Allen

In today's episode, Stephanie and Maren share their thoughts, tips, tricks and practices to move through the fear and get to the gifts on the other side. They discuss:

  • When you make space for something new and realize you are clinging to the old
  • Being stuck/stopped because you are tied to an identity
  • Your value coming from what you do instead of who you are
  • Being overwhelmed by the details and creating a self-doubt spiral
  • The internal game of addressing fear
  • Employing empowering questions
  • You are the sum total of the 5 people...
  • Holding on tight vs opening to receive
  • Fear means your stepped out of your comfort zone
  • Controlling vs embracing the unknown
  • Steps to crafting your own process for shifting gears
  • Your comfort zone has to be sacrificed. It's worth it.

Shifting Inner Poverty to Mine the Gold …Everywhere21 Jun 202200:31:23

"We default to self pity only because we haven't learned any other way." ~ Stephanie J Allen

Self pity is inner poverty and seems to come in two extremes:  hiding it or stuffing it. And leaders are NOT immune.

When you feel ashamed of the thoughts and feelings inside, you hide it, not wanting to even acknowledge the self pity you’re experiencing to yourself.  When you need comfort and acceptance, you broadcast it loud and clear to anyone that will listen “why me?”

Regardless of which shows up in any given moment, it's damaging.

So what is the alternative? Is there a healthy way to handle losing a job or losing a loved one and all the real AND important thoughts and feelings and stressors that come bubbling up?

In this empowering episode, Stephanie and Maren discuss strategies for everyone, especially leaders, to shift the old way of dealing with problems and challenges AND provide ways to step into a new level of consciousness.

It's time to start digging deeper and mine the gold within, to show up in true leadership by deepening the conversation. It's time to step into our calling and embrace a new way of both doing and being.

Step into this lively conversation with Maren & Stephanie and walk away with a new, more empowered way of being in a world full of problems, challenges and disappointments.

Change Your Language, Change Your Life14 Jun 202200:31:19

Words are thoughts with enough intensity and energy to coalesce and be voiced, this gives them enormous power. We don't give them much consideration and yet, they are the building blocks of our futures.

Really?

Yes. They are that powerful. And choosing them wisely is one of the fastest way to change your life.

It's said that we have 60,000-80,000 thoughts every day - and 90% of them are repetitive. Which of those repetitive thoughts do you choose to honor with the power of voice?

Maren and Stephanie dive into this rich subject with their usual banter, fun stories and tools for the leaders in all of us. In today's episode, they cover:

  • Flipping the leadership model of 'fixing' problems for others on its head.
  • The quickest, easies way to foster insight, inspiration and competence in your teams (children, etc.)
  • What it means that 'something doesn't "live" for us unless we have a word for it
  • How your language is keeping you stuck financially
  • Understanding the multiple levels of impact that words have -  like, "I'm poor" or "I'm broke"
  • Being truly in choice... or being held hostage by your language
  • Using language to shift to a different level of consciousness to solve the challenges in your life
  • Getting curious and playful and feeding our children's curiosity (instead of diminishing it)
  • How choosing words can get you into flow

The practice that Stephanie shares at the end is simple, but powerful. It will allow you to stop the train of endless thoughts and call yourself into a more empowering future. As you play with it, please share the changes you notice in one of our Soulful Leader Communities.

Shifting Chronic Illness: Maren's Healing Journey31 May 202200:32:47

Today's podcast, on the surface, may seem like a departure from Soulful Leadership, and it's not.  When you look closer, it's leadership at its most powerful and inspiring. Maren opens her heart and shares how she followed the threads in her life and trusted her guidance despite her chronic breathing condition getting worse.

Maren & Stephanie had a different subject planned for today, and this exploration unfolded instead. Rather than stopping, both hosts trusted, stayed present and dove into the discussion. The result was a vulnerable, open, real (and RECORDED) discovery process.

Stephanie guides Maren’s sharing about her seven year journey with a gut issue that was shutting down her breathing AND the recent breakthrough that has shifted this chronic condition. The ripples of positive change continue to echo through Maren's life.

This podcast is a real-time, authentic exploration. Anyone who has experienced ongoing pain or illness, or has simply been stuck in one place for too long will relate to, and get value from, the discovery, insights and gifts in today's podcast.

Who is Defining Your Success? (Success: part 1)17 May 202200:28:12

Your life has been defined by someone else's version of success.
You know this. You may deny it, and part of you knows the truth.

Your definition of success was being shaped for you before you could form a sentence. Some of the influences were subtle, some glaringly obvious. As you've become more aware of yourself, you've started to question your own assumptions.

~ Maybe you've noticed that you're a high achiever who always needs to up the ante to feel remotely satisfied, and even that is elusive.
~ Or maybe, you found yourself mastering something that would make your parents happy, but it's leaving you empty.
~ Or you've hit all the benchmarks, ticked all the boxes and realized there's still something missing.

How do we find our own version of success, the inner fulfillment we truly seek?

Not an easy question. Acknowledging that success may mean more than you were trained to believe is a great place to start. Take a journey with Maren and Stephanie as they discuss old rules of success, explore new paradigms of potential AND open a path to finding your own, personal success story.

A few highlights:

  • Being told what success is, and achieving every bit of it
  • Our opinions are formed for us
  • The high achiever's addiction
  • Survival of the fittest is a lie
  • Busting the myth
  • The benefits of jealousy
  • Finding your OWN success

'I was clever. So I wanted to change the world. And now I am wise and I changed myself.' ~Rumi

Tamera Sutton: Flip the Script and Own Your Destiny03 May 202200:39:39

Be forewarned, this episode is deeply moving.  Tamera Sutton's story resonates deeply. There are many universal truths that were unearthed in this recording.

As an overworked, undervalued mom of two, trying to do it all, Tamera found a lump on her breast. She wasn't given a break, and instead was asked to do more, come in and work overtime to catch up, plus see her doctors, try to heal and keep all the balls in the air.

After standing up for herself and quitting, she got caught in her own doubt and gave into the voices that told her that she wasn't enough. The mental demons took over. What happened next is inspiration for all of us who've ever been caught in that downward, mental spiral, unsure where to turn or how to get out.

Tamera is a true 'nurse for the human spirit' and hearing her story WILL help you find a different story, and your own inner champion. She is a pioneer, standing for herself and for others, and making changes where others just walk away.

May is Mental health month and we'd love to hear how this episode impacted you. Please connect with us on Facebook, or LinkedIn and share so that none of us feels alone.

Living from the Future26 Apr 202200:30:24

You've been trained to live based on your past.

You react to a co-worker, you make a decision on a project, you snap at your child. Each of those events happened because of a past learning, a past training. And more importantly, it has a ripple effect into the future.

Science is now showing that the wave pulling from future is STRONGER than the wave coming from the past.

What would it be like to be pulled forward into a future that wants to happen? How do you tap into it? How do you read it? How do you respond to it?

Stephanie and Maren discuss THEIR processes for reading ‘the book of life’ from this future wave. They go deeply with examples from Maren’s life, discussions on the multiple facets of FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real) and deconstructing the the limitations we currently accept... and they share their own practices.

Have you ever wondered how to tell the difference between a fear from your past keeping you stuck and a fear you experience when you’re out of your comfort zone being guided by your future?

Then this week’s podcast is for you.

Do you have a practice that you use? One that helps you to deepen your conversation with The incoming future?

Please share it with us in our Facebook group (Soulful Leaders Facebook Group), or our brand new LinkedIn Group (Soulful Leaders LinkedIn Group)

Giving as a Success Practice19 Apr 202200:23:25

What are YOU here to give?

What’s inside of you, that if you died, the music would be still there, left inside of you?

Is there more of your song yet to be played?

We consume, consume, consume, and we're stuffed; we're overweight, we're overburdened, we're overstressed. When we give, we actually make space in ourselves.

Today, Maren & Stephanie talk about giving and its relationship to our life mission, our success, and how we live, lead and love.  They share their own stories of becoming more aware of the ‘get’ mindset to which we’re trained and the ‘give’ mindset they are actively cultivating.

It’s time for us, as leaders, to be done with the conditioning that tells us we need more, ‘we're not enough’, ‘there's not enough’, ‘you've got to work harder’,  ‘you’ve got to work longer’, etc., and change the paradigm for everyone.

Join this discussion and explore shifting your process with the questions and practices they bring to the table.

It’s time to bring awareness to ‘giving’ to eliminate the subconscious loops that are running our lives behind the scenes. Let’s shift the inner together to create a higher version of the outer world we’re experiencing.

Exiting the ‘Success Trap’: Attracting from the Inside Out12 Apr 202200:31:03

You’ve done all the ‘stuff’. You’ve read the books, you have a coach, you’ve done all the work and applied everything you’ve learned… and it’s not changing. If anything, you feel more trapped than before. You wonder, what am I doing wrong? What MORE do I need to do? What’s wrong with me?

It’s not you. Society wired us backward. We’re taught to ‘do’ all the outer in order to ‘have’ and then to ‘be’. That’s a “chasing” paradigm and creates an endless unfulfilled loop. The good news? There’s another way, a better way, a more fulfilling, connected way.

As Maren shares in this week’s podcast, “If I wanted to capture a butterfly, there are two different ways that I could go about it. I could run after a butterfly with a net. Or I could build a garden that would attract butterflies.”

Maren and Stephanie share the shift that is necessary to create your own, internal butterfly garden, discuss levels of success and give the tools to allow you to stop chasing… and attract.

Please join us in our Facebook group (Soulful Leader Facebook Group) and share what you’ve taken a closer, internal, look at to allow you to ‘be’ and become The Attractor Factor?

The Power of Intentional Community05 Apr 202200:26:16

What does community mean to you?
How much are you longing for connection with others, with yourself, with something greater?

As soulful leaders, are we asking the questions we really need to ask... how is our community? How are you connecting with our community?  Most importantly, what would it look like for all of us to be more intentional about creating safe spaces for both community and connection to grow and flourish.

Maren & Stephanie share several personal stories about their own communities, open up about their experiences with shame and vulnerability, and offer several questions to evolve consciousness.

Some of the highlights include:

  • 3:55 - it's the responsibility of soulful leaders to create intentional safe spaces
  • 6:31 - we are not meant to be isolated
  • 9:45 - money is crystalized time
  • 12:05 - community = coming into union
  • 14:20 - our life mission is designed for us NOT to be able to do it alone
  • 16:20 - I invited everyone in to see my (business) house was a mess
  • 21:15 - conditioning is not an excuse for bad behavior

Speaking of how perfection puts barriers between us... listen to Episode 39, "Matt Damon, Kintsugi and a Set of Dishes" where Stephanie and Maren dive into the lie of perfection.
