#1 [INTERVIEW] - A Man Alone26 Aug 202401:02:39

Hello and welcome to this first episode of the Solo RolePlayers Podcast.

I am delighted to launch this show with an interview [read: chat] with one of the first content creators in the solo rig space whom I came across and who indirectly helped me get started playing in this wonderfully unusual hobby.

We talk about what it means to solo roleplay for us, some tips on how to get started, and a lot about the different ways the you can play and compare our personal, and very different, approaches.

Man Alone also talks about some of his solo design projects.

We talk a little about Dragonbane, Ironsworn and Fallout 2D20 and a lot about general solo roleplaying goodness.

You can check out Man Alone's YouTube channel here, and his podcast here on the Man Alone Network.

We also discuss Geek Gamers quintessential solo-rpg book Solo GameMasters Guide.

If you want to get in touch with me (PJ) you can email me at

soloroleplayerspodcast@gmail.com

#2 [INTERVIEW] - Board Games With Thomas12 Sep 202400:42:59

Today on The SoloRolePlayers podcast I got to have a chat with YouTuber Thomas from 'Board Games with Thomas'

We talk about our experience getting started in solo roleplaying and the flexibility and creativity that solo roleplaying offers.

But it's not long until we go down the Fallout rabbit-hole as we talk about the RPG, playing it with Mythic, and comparing the old and the new video games.

Throw in a bit of StarForged, DragonBane and Forbidden Lands and you got yourself an episode there buddy.

#3 [ACTUAL PLAY] DragonBane Parts 1 & 224 Sep 202401:32:09

Hello and welcome back to The Solo RolePlayers Podcast.

Today I have a special experimental episode for you all featuring and off the cuff (mostly) unedited actual play of me myself and dragonbane.

Please reach out and let me know what you think about this type of episode. I didn't know how it was going to go but I had a heap of fun playing in the end and am keen to play more.

Join Hackelswell and Legoran as the unlikely pair set off on an unwritten adventure in the Misty Vale.

You can reach me on soloroleplayerspodcast@gmail.com with feedback or find me (PJSack) lurking around the solo-rpg reddit thread.

I hope you enjoy this (accidentally) double episode of DragonBane.

#4 [INTERVIEW] Tana Pigeon, Mythic GME 2e09 Oct 202400:53:28

Hello and welcome back to The Solo RolePlayers Podcast. I am thrilled and humbled today to bring you the creator of the very system that unlocked solo roleplaying for me personally.

Tana talks about her discovery of rpg's as a child, the story of Mythic, how it was gradually created over the years and why it turned out to be the unique system it is today.

She also talks a little about the upcoming 2nd edition of the Mythic Roleplaying game (Mythic Red) and what the new definitive edition is attempting to achieve.

I had such a lovely chat with Tana and found it fascinating to hear the origin story of this system I didn't know I needed until I tried it.

Enjoy!

#6 [ACTUAL PLAY] WhiteBox Part 106 Nov 202400:49:06

Hello Solo RolePlayers!

On todays episode I try something new and grab a book off my shelf, spend an hour familiarising myself with the basics and making a character and world setup....and then JUST PLAY.

WhiteBox is an OSR (Old School Revival) RPG based on the original basic/advanced D&D (as far as I know...not an expert)

I had a lot of fun both playing and making this episode and my goal for you the listener is to show you that you can just jump in and start playing without committing to learning all the rules first.

This is something I plan to keep trying out with different games so if you enjoy this style of episode please reach and and let me know!

[BONUS] - The Solo RolePlayer's Challenge09 Dec 202400:18:24

This could be the push you need to finally get brave, take your pen in hand and actually play!

For this episode of the show I just felt the urge to jump on the mic and talk directly to you, the very nearly solo role-player. Take on the challenge that I have set and refer to the details at the bottom of the show notes.

I also just talk a bit about what I have been playing, what I want to get to the table and some future ideas for the show. This is a Bonus! and won't take away from the SRPP schedule. I just wanted to check in and say gday.

The Solo RolePlayers Challenge:

Condition of Entry - You must have never successfully sat down and solo-role played a whole session. (you'll know it when you see it)

Pick a game (small recommended but can be anything). Set everything up and just before you start, hit record on voice memo's or similar and then...:

1. Introduce yourself (real first name or screen name), say where you are and that you are taking on the solo role-players challenge

2 Briefly introduce the game you have chosen, perhaps why, and say how you are feeling. Nervous? Excited? Overwhelmed?

3. Stop recording and play a session. If you hit a wall push through. Fudge rules. Ret-con, whatever you need to do to keep going for 'a sessions' worth of time (again you'll know it when you see it)

4. Hit record again and briefly tell us about your experience. Easier/Harder than you thought? Things that tripped you up, worked well...how do you feel now? What's next?

[Try and keep each section short and sweet, I am going for like 30 secs maybe? but no punishment for going over....you might just get edited]

Wrap it up in your favourite audio format (whatever it comes out as is fine, I can make most things work) and email it to:

soloroleplayerspodcast@gmail.com by Sat 21st Dec and I will see about putting everything together and releasing it as an episode for the new year.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out!

Now go. Book in slot into your calendar and I'll hear from you soon.

-PJ

#11 [ACTUAL PLAY] - Starforged09 Jan 202501:27:20

Hello and welcome back to The Solo RolePlayers Podcast. Join me today on this first episode of the new year for another actual play of the much lauded Ironsworn: StarForged.

In this episode, as always, I get a book off my shelf and get it to the table with the minimal amount of preparation possible. I hope to give you an idea of what the game is like and give you some courage to just start playing yourself without getting bogged down in the need to feel like everything is perfect and you are totally prepared (you never are anyway).

We do a lot of world building in the ep and give you a feel for what it is like setting up a story with this system, and move into testing out some of the mechanics and getting the story off the ground toward the end.

Hope you enjoy this long overdue play of StarForged.

#15 [TOPIC] - Playing Published Adventures with Tana Pigeon (Mythic)19 Mar 202501:01:10

Hello and welcome back to the Solo RolePlayers Podcast. Today on the show I am proud to present the fantastic, inspiring, prolific and downright game-changer to the solo roleplayers hobby, official friend of the show Tana Pigeon to talk all about, and give a live example of that slippery and mystifying of concepts, playing a published adventure solo.

Tana talks through a few of the techniques she has used and written about in the past for how to do this, but also presents a brand new way to play a published adventure solo as written about in her recent issue #50 of Mythic Magazine, the 'Deconstruct the Known' method.

We wrap up the second half of the show by picking an unprepared adventure at random and actually showing off how the new technique works. It was a heap of fun and I am sure it will give you some ideas and confidence to try and do something like it yourself.

Enjoy!

[PATREON SNEAK PEAK] Hacking Forbidden Lands - a little experiment with PJSack16 Jul 202500:41:06

Hello Dear Solo RolePlayers,

I recently recorded a little experimental episode that was going to be just for Patrons but I kinda wanted to give you all out there a bit of an idea of the kind of extra content I am doing and planning to do over there so I decided to make it available to all!

This is my raw thoughts and live play example of me attempting my very first hack of a system...just for fun :)

It's different, it's a little weird, and I don't necessarily recommend my strange hack ideas to anyone. How can you resist.

If you enjoy this episode I will be releasing part 2 shortly over on the Patreon where you can also find a heap more actual play episodes of a bunch of games including the continued story of Forbidden Lands mentioned here.

#25 [INTERVIEW] - Cezar Capacle06 Aug 202500:59:08

Hello and Welcome Back to The Solo RolePlayers Podcast. Today on the show I am thrilled to bring you an interview I had with the quirkiest game designer I have ever met......the games are quirky I mean and in the moist wonderfully creative and interesting ways.

Join me and Cezar Capacle as he dives right in to his fascinating style of game design as well as going into detail on his two new big projects.

Enjoy!

#29 [FIRST LOOK] - Coriolis: The Great Dark08 Oct 202500:55:16

Hello and Welcome back to The Solo RolePlayers Podcast. Today on the show I am keen as mustard to bring out another new format for a spin.

That first look, first touch, first flick of a new RPG is a magical experience. You (or at least I) skin things, stop at cool art, let out a 'wicked' under your breath for some fangled new dice mechanic, and let the beginnings of your first potential story in this game start to bubble up in your imagination.

Not quite review, (definitely) not quite tutorial, my goal with this format is to give you a bit of a feel for what this game might be like to play and how I think about new systems and settings when i'm getting ready to play in them for the first time.

Enjoy!

#27 [ACTUAL PLAY] - Cartograph24 Sep 202500:40:38

Hello and Welcome Back to The SoloRolePlayers Podcast. Today on the show, in preparation for the official, one and only, never to be repeated first episode of season 2 of the show (nearly finished but not quite) I bring to you today an ancient recording found collecting dust, presumably in some moldering tomb or another, a play I did way back in the early years of the lovely little game Cartograph.

This is not your heart-wrenching, stomach-churning, drama heavy playthrough, but rather a very cozy walk through this book.

Part play, part tutorial, part unboxing.....now that I edit it I realise it is foreshadowing of things to come..... all map drawing, so with that mysterious inkling out of the way, in anticipation for the new season, sit back, relax and enjoy an early years episode from that guy who plays games solo for some reason...PJ

#31 [ACTUAL PLAY] - Kal Arath05 Nov 202501:05:00

Hello and Welcome Back to the Solo RolePlayers Podcast.

Today on the show I got a hot little game to the table, known to some as Kal-Arath. This affordable, old school, small foot-printed little gem is great for short (or long) sessions on the go or at home.

Hope you enjoy the actual play of Kal-Arath.

Check out the Castle Grief Substack for more info.

Reference sheet I used while playing by SilverNightingale

#41 [SPOTLIGHT] - Beetle Knight by Brooklet Games11 Feb 202600:55:52

Hello and Welcome Back to the Solo RolePlayers Podcast.

Today on the show we are trying something a little different as I present to you this fantastic bug sized role playing game. This game is our months highlight for the topic: free/affordable games.

If you want to hear the full extended 90 min [ACTUAL PLAY] and the full hour long [INTERVIEW] with Jim Hall, you can join up as a FREE member over on the SoloRolePlayers Patreon and listen over there.

You can check out Beetle Knight over at Brooklet Games for one of the beautiful hand made copies (which I highly recommend) or head over to Itch.io for the PWYW digital/printable version.

The format of this episode was a bit of a spontaneous experiment. Its not something I'm going to do all the time but I had a lot of fun putting it together but I'm too close to it to tell how well it holds together. If you wouldn't mind, take a moment to send me a quick email to soloroleplayerspodcast@gmail.com to let me know what you think.

Hope you enjoy!

-PJ

#42 [INTERVIEW] - Loner Creator, Robert Bisceglie25 Feb 202600:43:17

Hello and Welcome Back to the Solo RolePlayers Podcast,

To wrap out our free and affordable game month I have for you today my interview with Loner creator Roberto Bisceglie. We had a great chat about how one mans personal solo game hack became a modern classic of a solo roleplaying game system.

Additionally, thanks to Roberto, we are hosting a giveaway this month of a selection of these wonderful games. For more info, and to go into the draw (roll), you can head over to the SoloRolePlayers Patreon and sign up for free over there.

Hope you enjoy.

[INTERVIEW] - Jim Hall from Brooklet Games [full interview]24 Feb 202600:41:09

Heya SoloRolePlayers,

Jim has some exciting news he has just announced that starts in a mere couple of days and in celebration and support of that I wanted to bring his full interview over from the Patreon feed to here so that as many people as possible could hear about it and get involved.

A lot (but certainly not all) of this interview was included in the Beetle Knight [SPOTLIGHT] episode from the other week but this is still well worth the listen even if you heard that.

If you want to just straight ahead to the announcement I will put a chapter in the episode (there's a first time for everything) and you can also check out what its all about on the Brooklet Games Website.

Hope you enjoy,

-PJ
