Week 8 is in the books, and we discuss all the games of the week, including:

  • Jets lose to a Pats team without their Starting QB
  • Bills are great against the Seahawks
  • Lions might be the stand out team in the league at the moment
  • Chiefs are 7-0 despite not blowing anyone away
  • Are the Eagles finally starting to click
  • Are the Bengals playoff hopes over?
  • The Ravens have their customary occasional stumble against a poor team
  • That Hail Mary was pretty special/funny wasn't it?

We discuss our usual Sweetest Play of the Week, the Biggest Balls of the Week gets a make over, and it's Cornerback turn for our Hall of Good nominations.

Week 7 2024 - Jags win in London, Lions and Vikings in a classic23 Oct 202401:28:31

Week 7 is in the books, and we start with the Jaguars winning their customary game at Wembley, where a few of us went to watch.

Elsewhere:

  • Lions beat Vikings in a classic game
  • Packers beat the Texans in a game that promised much, but didn't live up to expectations.
  • Broncos continue to improve
  • Jets changes haven't really brought much improvement
  • Eagles aren't great, but Saquon is
  • Griff gets to talk about Marcus Mariota

Our customary awards, for Sweetest Play of the Week, and it's the Wide Receivers turn for nominating for Hall of Good, and there are some great nominations

Who Needs A Big Year & Looking At Fantasy21 Aug 202401:24:26

Justin Simmons gets signed by the Falcons, who also sign Judon.

Who else is getting signed, and who is coming back from injury, and teams are starting to announce QBs

We get into who needs a big year, either because of contracts, reputation, or just a future in the league.

We then start looking at Fantasy, and who are the first round certainties, who may drop, and what are you looking for in a QB?

The SuperBowl Preview Show08 Feb 202201:26:18

The SuperBowl is this weekend, and who is going to come out on top as the Bengals play the Rams in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Will Joe Burrow pull the Bengals through to the biggest prize in the sport, or will Aaron Donald finally grab his chance to win a SuperBowl ring?

We also have to discuss the new coach hires, from the Jags hiring Doug Pederson, to the Texans reverting to being very Texans, and what about the Rooney Rule, is it fit for purpose?

Super Championship Round - Bengals in a Super Bowl....no really, and has Tom Brady retired?31 Jan 202201:42:56

We now know who is in the Super Bowl, and just like we predicted, it's the Cincinnati Bengals...well maybe not predicted, but it's going to be cool to see Joe Burrow et al in the sports greatest game. They stop Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offence, in a game of two halves.

The Bengals will be playing the Rams, who make another Super Bowl, and overcome the San Francisco 49ers, and for the second year running the home team make it to the Super Bowl.

We also discuss the latest Head Coach hires, Sean Payton stepping down, and did Tom Brady retire at the weekend, and what does this mean for the rest of the Buccaneers if so?

Super Divisional Round - Brady and Rodgers bow out, but Bengals win at the last and Chiefs and Bills have the game of the year24 Jan 202201:27:03

We now know who is playing in the Championship games, and for the first time in a decade it won't feature either Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, who were beaten by the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers respectively. A Brady style comeback from the Buccaneers is foiled by the familiar combination of Stafford to Cooper Kupp at the end to set up Matt Gay, and the 49ers win a low scoring game with Robbie Gould set up with time expiring.

Joe Burrow is sacked a record times by the Titans, but the Titans defence are let down by an anemic performance from the offence and somehow the Bengals are in the Championship game.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills have a game of the year contender, and open up all sorts of questions about overtime.

Super Wildcard Weekend Review & Looking To The Divisional Weekend18 Jan 202202:04:40

Super Wildcard Weekend was a lot of fun, and some of the games were good, whilst the Eagles and Patriots were at least in the Playoffs.

Who takes the momentum onwards out of the Chiefs and Bills?

Packers and 49ers is too tight to call

Who gets through when the Buccaneers host the Rams?

Can the Bengals keep their hot streak going, and get past the rested Titans and the Derrick Henry?

The Playoff Super Wildcard Weekend Special Episode, New Head Coach Positions and Power Rankings12 Jan 202200:29:59

What with so much to cover this week, we've looked into the upcoming Super Wildcard Weekend games in a seperate episode. Who do we think will make it through the next weekend games, and into the Super Divisional Round?

With a host of new Head Coach positions up for grabs, which of the free slots are most appealing?

As the Regular Season is now over, who is in the lead of our Power Rankings as we head into the Post-Season?

Week 18 - Chargers go full Chargers and miss the Playoffs, Colts mess up, 49ers running make the Playoffs, Black Monday for Nagy, Zimmer, Fangio, Flores and Judge12 Jan 202201:40:46

We now know who is going to make the Playoffs, and the Chargers miss out at the last as Steelers and Raiders make up the contingent for the AFC, whilst the 49ers win at the Rams and are in the Playoffs for the NFC.

The Jaguars play ruiners, and beat the Colts in Jacksonville again, and cost Indianapolis a chance to make the Playoffs.

All the week 18 games are covered, as Green Bay lead the NFC despite a loss against the Lions, and Titans beat the Texans to get the bye in the AFC.

Broncos, Bears & Vikings are now looking for new Head Coaches (with the latter two also on the search for GMs) whilst for some reason the Dolphins have fired Brian Flores. We started the record with New York Giants looking for a new GM, then finish with Joe Judge also fired, and the Giants also looking for a new Head Coach.

Week 17 - Bengals beat the Chiefs and secure the AFC North and Cardinals stop the losing streak04 Jan 202201:48:49

Week 17 of the NFL season and we're at the business end of the season and there were results which affected Playoff standings

The Bengals come back to win against the Chiefs

The Steelers remain in contention beating the Browns

The Titans take the lead in the AFC

The Packers remain imperious against the depleted Vikings

Cardinals stop the slump by beating the Cowboys, who lose Gallup to an ACL injury

All this plus all the games that matter to the playoffs, and the few that don't.

Week 16 - Bills take control of AFC East, Chiefs imperious again, and Cowboys rack up points against Washington28 Dec 202101:35:05

In Week 16 of the 2021 NFL season, the Bills win against the Patriots and take control of the AFC East, with Josh Allen in fine form against a previously lights out defence.

Kansas City Chiefs beat an incredibly poor Steelers

Dallas Cowboys beat the Football Team, but what can we learn about that, if anything?

The New York Giants were pathetic again, but what is new?

Week 15 - Meyer is fired, Saints shut out Buccs and when is a gutsy 4th down play call a bad one?21 Dec 202101:18:37

To the surprise of few, Urban Meyer is fired, although to go mid-season for allegedly kicking Josh Lambo was not how we saw it going. He leaves with two wins and a team in disarray, but are they better without him?

A few coaches, Jim Harbaugh and Brandon Staley in particular, made gutsy 4th down calls this week, but is this a bad thing?

  • Kansas City Chiefs offence is back on form, but Chargers leave a lot of points on the field
  • Indianapolis Colts run down the Patriots
  • Dallas Cowboys beat a poor New York Giants

All the Week 15 games covered

Week 14 - Rams beat Cardinals, Broncos pay tribute to Demaryius Thomas & our latest NFL Power Rankings14 Dec 202101:37:59

As the race for the Playoffs begins to heat up, where in the NFC the Rams catch up a game on the Cardinals, whilst the Packers and Buccaneers are also at 10-3. In the AFC the Chiefs and Titans join the Patriots at 9-4, whereas the Baltimore Ravens lose to the Browns as injuries continue to hit Baltimore.

The Broncos pay an emotional tribute to Demaryius Thomas, who sadly passed at the age of 33.

Are the Cowboys actually good, they should be, but does the potential meet what is being produced?

Urban Meyer is having issues on and off the pitch in Jacksonville, but is he to blame for the Jags?

It's our Power Rankings time, and in an season that is hard to predict, how unanimous our the picks?

Not Making Too Much Out Of Pre-Season14 Aug 202401:11:21

Preseason has started, and it's hard to make too much out of it, but

  • Caleb Williams looks good
  • JJ McCarthy also looked good, but is now out for the season
  • Bo Nix has a decent start
  • Joe Milton looks fun

What do we make of the Dallas off-season, and should they have signed Dak Prescott to an extension, or is it time to move on?

Week 13 (2021 Season) - Pats running to the Number One Seed & Lions actually win07 Dec 202101:25:42

With Jim along via FaceTime, the team is reunited to go over all the happenings in Week 13, including:

Pats win with a playbook from the 1950s

Lions win a game, and Mike Zimmer's seat is now burning

Steelers win, but Ravens lose after going to two, and more players to injury

Cardinals have Kyler back, and continue winning

Mike Glennon is not the answer for the Giants

Who is worse, the Texans or the Jags

Week 12 (2021 Season) - The Playoff hunt remains very open as Cowboys & Rams lose again, Patriots are in form whilst the Seahawks are not01 Dec 202101:34:56

Thanksgiving games ranged from the ridiculous shamble of Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions, to a brilliant game between Las Vegas Raiders at Dallas Cowboys that went into overtime.

The Patriots are in great form, beating the Titans who are short of attacking options, whilst the Bills bully the Saints and Miami defence shows up against Carolina, and give Cam Newton a torrid time.

Green Bay Packers beat Los Angeles Rams, as two of the best teams in the NFC faced off, whilst the Buccaneers beat the Colts, where Fournette was in top form.

In the race for the playoffs, Bengals trounce the Steelers, the 49ers beat Minnesota Vikings, the Broncos beat the Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens best the Cleveland Browns in a low scoring game, the Giants beat the Eagles and Football Team overcome the Seahawks, as Russell Wilson loses three games straight for the first time.

Week 11 (2021 Season) - Patriots, Colts & Chiefs finding form at the right time, what is going on with the Seahawks and Vikings overcome the Packers23 Nov 202101:43:27

On a week with the original recipe set of presenters (Thrash & Griff) we discuss the Patriots becoming the form team in the AFC, whilst the Colts create one of the results of the season against the Bills. The Chiefs continue to find form and defensive stability against a Cowboys team that have started to stutter a bit, but have very little to worry about.

The Vikings have enough to beat the Packers in a thrilling contest, and Titans lose to the Texans somehow.

Week 10 (2021 Season) - Kansas City have their swagger back, how good are the Patriots and Rams slip up against the 49ers16 Nov 202101:35:19

The crazy results continue, with the Rams and Buccaneers losing, whilst the Cardinals injury hit team are beaten by the Carolina Panthers, who welcome back Cam Newton in an easy win.

The Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots make easy work of New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, whilst Dallas Cowboys return to form with a crushing win against Atlanta Falcons.

The Kansas City Chiefs score big again against Las Vegas Raiders who are struggling after a few weeks of strife off the field, with Patrick Mahomes back to his best.

All the games covered, whilst we discuss our Head Coach power rankings.

Week 9 (2021 Season) - Bad week for Cowboys, Packers, 49ers, Bills, and even worse for the Raiders, whilst Cleveland Browns win big after cutting OBJ09 Nov 202101:46:31

It is a week to forget for Dallas Cowboys, who are thrashed by Denver Broncos, whilst the Bills are even more disappointing in a turgid game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jordan Love gets his first start for Green Bay Packers, after Aaron Rodgers has a week to forget, and they lose another turgid affair to Kansas City Chiefs.

Las Vegas Raiders have it even worse, cutting two 2020 first round draft picks, and also losing to an improving (at least defensively) New York Giants.

It's our half-season power ranking, who will come out on top, and who will be the worst.

Week 8 2021 Season - Cardinals finally beaten, Saints beat Buccs but lose Jameis, Derrick Henry injured & Trade Deadline02 Nov 202101:18:06

Green Bay Packers beat Arizona Cardinals, who in worse news may have to be without Kyler Murray for a game or two, whilst JJ Watt is out for the year.

Dallas Cowboys win against the Vikings, even without Dak.

The Saints hoodoo over the Brady-led Buccs continues, but they lose Jameis Winston for the season to a knee injury.

All the games are covered, even the bad ones, whilst we look into the Trade Deadline, including the Rams move for Von Miller.

Week 7 (2021 season) - Chiefs & Mahomes are struggling, Bengals are actually good, how good are the Raiders, what to make of the Lions, #NationalTightEndsDay & QB Power Ranking26 Oct 202101:30:02

The Chiefs are really struggling now, and even Patrick Mahomes is proving to be human, and this latest loss wasn't even close.

Elsewhere the Bengals thrash the Ravens, with Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase are playing lights out.

Are the Ravens Super Bowl contenders, at least one person thinks so?

Dan Campbell is making decisions like an 8 year old playing Madden, is this a show of bravery, fun or should we even care?

Away from the games, we have a quiz to celebrate National Tight Ends Day, about some of the greatest players to ever grace the position, and we Power Rank all the starting Quarter Back in the league.

Week 6 (2021 Season) Cowboys are legit, Rodger OWNS the Bears, Jags win in London and Gruden is gone18 Oct 202101:33:19

Jon Gruden is gone from the Raiders, after emails are released showing historic offences.

The Cowboys beat the Patriots in another overtime game, and Cee Dee Lamb looks every bit a leading receiver.

The Jags hand a last second loss to the Dolphins as the NFL UK tour ends, with a first win for Urban Meyer.

The Cardinals keep winning, and the Packers hand another loss to the Bears

Week 5 (2021 Season) NFL in London, Chargers and Browns in Game of the Season, Coaches in Trouble11 Oct 202101:38:41

Week 5 and the guys have a trip down to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so see Atlanta Falcons make short work of the New York Jets, whilst Justin Herbert and Austin Ekeler are unplayable against a decent Cleveland Browns team.

John Gruden under scrutiny after racist comments emerge from the recent past, whilst Urban Meyer continues to face questions after his trip to the bar.

Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Chargers have a game of the season contender, whilst why hasn't there been more Justin Herbert for MVP chatter? Another MVP candidate, Kyler Murray, leads Arizona Cardinals to a tight win over San Francisco 49ers.

Week 4 (2021 Season) - Shad Don't See Nothing Wrong & Brady's Foxboro Return05 Oct 202101:27:54

Cardinals are the only unbeaten team in the league, beating the Rams who came into this week on top of most pundit's Power Rankings.

Brady returns to Foxboro and gets the win, but there are also signs of encouragement for Belichick and Mac Jones for the Patriots.

Urban Meyer is a dirty dog, and whilst the Jaguars are improving, they are still 0-4

The Cowboys look great, New York Giants win and the Bills demolish the Football Team

Pre Pre-Season and QB Battles07 Aug 202401:15:13

We're starting to come back, so we go over the news and then discuss QB Battles for the upcoming season

News includes:

  • New deal for Jordan Love
  • New slightly smaller deal for Tua
  • Tyreek Hill gets paid
  • Who is holding out?
  • Who is holding in?

We then discuss Criminality committed by NFL people over the off-season, and who is going to win out the various QB battles through the league?

Week 3 2021 - Rams continue to impress, what is going on with the Bears and struggles in New York28 Sep 202101:28:30

Week 3 is done and dusted, and Stafford seems to be having no trouble at all settling in at Los Angeles, where the Rams have shown that the Buccaneers are beatable.

The Panthers and Raiders continue to impress, whilst Broncos make the most of their soft schedule to start.

The Ravens win it late with Justin Tucker hitting the longest field goal ever, but the Lions are at least trying.

Justin Fields has problems on his first start for the Chicago Bears, but is it Matt Nagy's fault...hint, it is.

The Giants are struggling, whilst the Jets are even worse, whilst we when will the Jaguars ever win again?

Also, what happened to decent Centre play?

Week 2 (2021 Season) - Lamar vs Mahomes and Cack Wilson21 Sep 202101:42:07

Week 2 is now in the book and some of the Over-reactions from Week 1 were corrected, as the Packers look more like themselves, the Patriots put on a defensive masterclass, Derrick Henry is running through defences again, the Steelers fail to protect Big Ben and Jameis is back throwing it to the opposition.

Along with this, we also discuss:

Derek Carr is brilliant

The Chiefs defence may cost their amazing offence, but Lamar comes up big

Vikings miss at the last

Daniel Jones is not the problem for the Giants....this week at least

NFL becomes the No Fun League again, with too many taunting penalties, whilst 4th & Inches also briefly tries some ASMR

Week 1 2021 - Over Reaction Central 14 Sep 202101:29:11

So the Texans may not be the worst team in football, although Week 1 of the 2021 NFL Season has a couple of storied teams that had absolutely awful starts to the season. Amongst everything else this week, we discuss:

  • Kansas City Chiefs have (another) tight victory, this time over the impressive Browns, but that KC offence can just not be stopped
  • The repeat is on for the Buccs, but Cowboys offense impress in narrow loss
  • The Steelers go full Steelers in beating the much fancied Buffalo Bills
  • Green Bay break records, but in a bad way, whilst Lasik Jameis has laser focused efficiency for New Orleans Saints
  • Seattle start well again
  • The Falcons look set for a long season, and Eagles take an early lead in NFC East
  • Tannehill is offered very little protection from Chandler Jones
  • 49ers suffer with injuries...for a change
2021 New Season and Week 1 Preview07 Sep 202101:21:43

We can almost taste the new season, with Dallas and Tampa Bay only a couple of sleeps away, and to take a final look at the new season, we have 4th and Inches back.

What games in Week 1 are we looking forward to?

What in the whole season are we looking forward to, and what are we dreading over the next 18 or so weeks?

Cam is Dropped, Roster Cuts & NFL 2021 Predictions31 Aug 202101:24:47

This episode starts with the news that Cam Newton has been dropped by the New England Patriots, leaving Mac Jones as QB1. We discuss this, plus all the other trades and cuts, including:

NFL UK Tickets, Vikings Quarter Back Room Mess, Training Camp Battles and How We Would Change The Game03 Aug 202101:16:04

Their is some frustration at the NFL UK ticket announcement.

The Vikings Quarter Back room is in a bit of a mess thanks to Covid, and some players reticence to get vaccinated.

Carson Wentz is injured, so what do the Colts do at QB?

We take a look at the battles in Training Camp, and who might come out on top?

The Hundred is changing the way cricket is presented and perceived, so what can the NFL learn from this, so we talk rule changes to make the game quicker, better, or how it is presented.

We then finish it off with a return of Play Your Cardinals Right.

WE'RE BACK! Warming up for the 2024 Season17 Jul 202401:10:11

After a summer off to watch football, and not think about Football, most of us are back around a table to talk about what has happened over the off-season.

  • The deaths of Jacoby Jones and Khyree Jackson
  • Jordan Addison is a menace at the wheel
  • Is anyone at the Chiefs not going to get arrested?
  • Aiyuk requested a trade
  • NFL found guilty in anti-trust lawsuit and fined a mere $14bn

We look at who is still not signed, and because Griff is here, we discuss Rookie QBs

It's been a while since we could meet in person, and we start our pre-season by having a round table discussion to capture everything that has happened between the draft and now.

So, we start with the ongoing situation with COVID, then move onto, amongst everything else;

Rodgers-Packers impasse

Julio Jones to the Titans

Status of the UK Games

Texans continue doing Texans things

We're now back though, and will be weekly leading up to, and during the season.

Looking at the 2021 Draft and Rodgers' Packers future in Jeopardy04 May 202101:38:51

Aaron Rodgers wants out of Green Bay, and will the MVP be a Packer by the season start?

We look at the NFL Draft which took place from 29th March to 1st April, where we look at the first round, from Trevor Lawrence joining the Jaguars, to whatever the Raiders did with their first round pick!?

Who has added some great piece to their first team, and who has potentially wasted a chance to improve their squad?

Mock Draft - 2021 Edition27 Apr 202101:03:19

With the NFL Draft only a matter of days away, it's time for our annual attempt at acting like GMs. We're not predicting what will happen, just making our opinion for what should happen.

Controversy from the off here, as well as what looks like some solid picks, and a couple of reaches.

Alex Smith Retires, The NFL Draft and A Three Year Status Check20 Apr 202101:22:54

Starting with the latest news, including NFL Comeback Player of the Year, Alex Smith has retired, following his recent release from Washington Football Team, Aldon Smith has gone missing following an incident of alleged battery in a coffee shop, Jordan Reed has also retired, and the NFL links to the Super League being mooted in soccer.

We look at the top prospects at certain positions in the upcoming draft, whether your team is after a new Quarterback, or is looking for a new Defensive End, know who to be looking out for on the first few days.

Bill Parcells said you can't judge a player until they've been in the year for three years, so we look back at the 2018 draft, and can the success rate for Quarterbacks give us a hint for what may happen following the 2021 Draft?

Free Agency 2021 AFC - Deshaun Does or Doesn't16 Mar 202100:52:52

So with the NFC in the bag, we now discuss the AFC, starting with The Patriots, where Bill Belichick seems to be in a rush to spend his remaining cap space, mostly on Tight Ends.

This compares to the Texans where they seems to be determined to destroy their team, and are the Browns now the stand out team in the AFC North.

Free Agency 2021 NFC - Everyone Should Drop Nick Foles16 Mar 202101:02:13

With some movements in the Salary Cap and the player market, we take a division by division look at what has happened in the Franchise Tag and Free Agency markets so far in the preperation for the 2021 NFL Season.

In the NFC, there are teams like Eagles, Bears and Saints in salary cap hell, whilst what is happening with Russell Wilson at the Seahawks? At least the Cowboys have finally solved the Dak issue, and we have breaking news as the Bears sign Russe...oh no, they sign Andy Dalton.

Super Bowl Recap 202109 Feb 202101:16:36
We discuss everything that happens in the Super Bowl this year, whether you enjoyed the game or not. Before that though, we take some time to remember former Chiefs, Chargers, Browns and Washington Head Coach, Marty Schottenheimer, and Chris Wesseling from the Around the NFL Podcast, who both sadly died around this weekend. After the big game, we discuss the free agents coming up, and whether they'll stay or go this off season.

We also continue our annual end of the season quizzes.
Late Look at the Draft08 May 202401:05:39

Life has got a bit in the way, so we're a bit late in looking back at the draft.

Before that though, some Wide Receivers got signed, including Odell Beckham Jr to the Dolphins.

We look at the draft, some look like slam dunks, others look more confusing, we go through the first round and who has looks like they've missed an opportunity, and who had a smart pick fall into their laps.
