Ep. 25 Letters & Law: How to Build the Skill of Reading Biblical Prose Discourse // Full Episode
06 Dec 2022
02:49:21
What do you do when the Bible seems like it is speaking directly to you? Do you take it at face value or not? What about when the Bible seems completely foreign to you? Do you ignore those parts or not?
These questions get asked throughout the Bible, but probably the most in the sections of the Bible written in the prose discourse literary style. Because of its direct communication and conversational language, the parts of the Bible written in prose discourse can seem like the parts of the Bible we should try to implement into our lives. But it only takes a little reading to see that application is sometimes more complex than it appears to be. When we build the skill of reading Biblical prose discourse, we develop the wisdom necessary to know when to apply what we read from the Bible, we understand with greater clarity when the Bible is speaking to us and when the Bible was only speaking to a particular audience, and we know when to ignore rulings in the Bible and when to hold firmly to specific commands.

Ep. 15 | How to Build the Skill of Reading Biblical Narrative: Rep #5
06 Sep 2022
00:29:57
The Bible is full of amazing stories! However, reading stories in the Bible is slightly different than reading stories in another book. The Biblical authors have crafted the Bible's stories so that certain key elements help add additional meaning and significance to the story. Although many stories do this, the Bible takes it up a notch. Since about 43% of the Bible is written in narrative (story) form, the better we understand stories in the Bible, the better we will understand what God is trying to communicate to us. This podcast series is meant to help us understand Biblical stories better!
In this episode, we will work through the entire skill by reading 1 Kings chapter 12!

Ep. #10 | How to Build the Skill of Reading Biblical Poetry: Full Episode
26 Jul 2022
02:14:15
*******NOTE********
We changed the name of the podcast while recording several episodes. When you hear "Growing True Disciples Practicecast" don't fear; you are in the right place.
This skill is essential because ⅓ of the Bible is written in poetry. As disciples, the Bible is our authority and the source of our fundamental beliefs. To better understand the Bible, we need to take the time to read it, not only in it’s proper context but also in accordance with the genre it was written in.
If I read a song like an essay, I miss a part of what the writer was attempting to communicate. If I read an essay like a song, I will miss out on some of what the writer was attempting to communicate. But if I sing a song like it’s written and read an essay like it’s written, I have the best chance of grasping all the writer was trying to communicate. That’s why this skill matters. We want to have the best chance possible to grasp what the Bible is attempting to communicate to us.

Ep. 18 Letters & Law: How to Build the Skill of Reading Biblical Prose Discourse // Additional Info
04 Oct 2022
00:48:56
In this week's episode, we will be giving you additional background information to help you understand the skill before our practice session begins!

Ep. 17 | How to Build the Skill of Reading Biblical Narrative: Full Episode
20 Sep 2022
03:03:12
The Bible is full of amazing stories! However, reading stories in the Bible is slightly different than reading stories in another book. The Biblical authors have crafted the Bible's stories so that certain key elements help add additional meaning and significance to the story. Although many stories do this, the Bible takes it up a notch. Since about 43% of the Bible is written in narrative (story) form, the better we understand stories in the Bible, the better we will understand what God is trying to communicate to us. This podcast series is meant to help us understand Biblical stories better!
