The card of The Fool in the Tarot implies the start of something new, or a fresh beginning. Some people don’t get to start until they are very old. Sometimes some people never start for their whole lives! But if we spend lots of time, as young children, in play…. we are given more of a chance to begin our Hero’s Journey much sooner than would be expected. The more young children play, the more they give their attention to styles of play that benefit their own learning style/schema. Paying attention to the right things in early childhood develops focus, concentration, self-awareness, processing information…… hang on a minute! Are we talking about the trivium process here? Indeed we are…. at least the early childhood application of it. Let’s put it this way: engaging in preferred styles of play, in the early years, sets the young child up for the best and right learning later in life. Playing the right way means learning the right way and then later… doing the Right thing!

"Before concentration sets in the teacher can do what she likes more or less, because she upsets nothing important. She can intervene in the children’s activities if necessary. I have read of a Saint who tried to attract the abandoned boys of the streets of a town who were learning bad habits. What did he do? He tried every means to amuse them. That is what the teacher must do at this stage. The use of poetry, rhymes, singing, stories, drama, clowning; anything is good enough except the stick. The teacher who fascinates the children attracts them and this leads to some exercise, which is not very important but it does attract them. A vivacious teacher can attract more easily, then why not make use of it? To say brightly: “Now what about changing the furniture today” and then work with them, the teacher herself carrying things carefully and suggesting how to carry, doing all this brightly. Or: “How about polishing this beautiful brass bowl?” or: “Shall we go into the garden and collect some flowers?” If the teacher is attractive the action will be attractive." Maria Montessori

Oscar Wilde's The Selfish Giant symbolises how children require play in nature in order to grow into holistically healthy human beings. Powerful forces in nature come to the aid of families who spend time together outdoors in play. Not only part of Native American philosophy, Rudolf Steiner spoke of nature-connections. He was an inspiration for the "Eco-Spirituality" movement. Children spending time in nature, with their families, brings us back to an ancient time. Indo-Europeans had the nature connection and may have been responsible for the symbolic sequences of Natural Law found in many fairy tales. They also held the children in extremely high regard. The initiation of the child, into the seventh year of age, was a huge ritual and celebration. This, in my opinion, means that the ancient Indo-Europeans understood the importance of the life of the child in the early years.

The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 38

Anger is important. Anger is a feeling and feelings must be expressed. Anger can be let out and laughed about later as we continue on our way. We do the angry dance and let our angries out! We talk about the cool, calm and collected condor. The condor knows how to control his feelings and soar through life, no matter how grisly it might be. We affirm life’s eternal path of the soul with part of a lesson from “The Eternal Verities”. We play some stories that cover life, death and rebirth. Nature shows us a world of cycles, like the condor shows us, symbolically, with how he eats. Like the transformation of the dragonfly. In this episode, we weave a thread through cycles: of nature; of life; of the soul’s journey.

The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 37

Life is fun, difficult, happy, sad, tragic and magic. Life is also eternal. When we die, we return to the place we came from. At the same time, we were here all along. So we don’t have to worry! We can have fun, and be serious at the same time. We can have fun, but be mindful that life is serious and worth caring about. This episode, we highlight the connectedness of life which young children embody and require this connectedness to affirmed by grown-ups.

Happy Swans10 Jan 202400:25:22
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 36
Educating Girls Series - Second Installment

Gino pulls the eight of swords from his tarot deck once again! The message being that one should stick up for themselves and stick up for what is right, to prevent the self defeating thoughts and patterns from taking hold.

We introduce some content from H.P. Blavatsky’s “The Eternal Verities, for The Teachers of Children”. According to Gino’s estimation, this book appears to be for slightly older children, 6 years plus. Nevertheless, we want to start exploring the limited esoteric resources for children that are available. We read a story from lesson five in the book. This story is called “How to be Happy”. The story shows that little Helen was happiest at home, helping her mother to make a Sunday dress. The story ends with a question: “Do you know why?”. The answer in the book is ‘Yes, it is the nature of the self to render “Gentle Service”’. The goal of “How to Be Happy” in Blavatsky’s book is to affirm the Theosophical value of a life in service to others. If you play this story to your young child, ask them why! We are genuinely curious as to what their answer may be.

Also, in this episode, the swans return! We play Swan Lake and with our knowledge of Swan Spirit symbolism we see how the feminine aspect of self-defence takes flight in Tchaicovsky’s famous play. The theme of true love is bundled up nicely in this story. Odette, to stick up for herself, needs the love of the prince to break her spell. She is defending herself, while at the same time, the situation has the prince defending true love. All cheesiness aside, the message is about sticking up for what is right and doing the right thing. Odette freed herself and found true love. Even if the true love was imposed by the sorceress, as the neo-feminists claim today, Odette still used her power to get herself into a better situation! This brings us to the activity at the end of the show, “Three Questions”. Questioning young children, in a respectful and playful way, is super-important. We aren’t wanting to paint young children into a corner here. We are wanting to encourage young children to make choice and develop their sense of self so they know that they have power and sovereignty. We want young children to defend themselves when life demands it. They need to know who they are, what they want, and what they like to know these things are worth fighting for.

Martial arts like wing chun and krav maga prove that women can also physically defend themselves against bigger and stronger opponents. Women can do more masculine things to defend themselves too! We can all use all our faculties to defend ourselves mentally, emotionally and physically. A must watch movie about True Care, self-defence, violence and a heroine, is the 1994 film “Wing Chun” directed by Woo-Ping Yuen.

My niece was being bullied at her daycare. When her dad, my brother, had a conversation with her about it. He let her know that he would support her with doing whatever she thought was right in dealing with the bullying. She chose to pull a scary face and make a loud monster noise when the bully would approach her! The bullying stopped immediately without any physical intervention required! My niece was back to her usual confident self. In fact, her confidence grew, and continues to grow to this day, as she knows it’s okay to stand up for herself with the support of her loving parents.

Iphigenia and The Apple07 Jan 202400:27:00
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 35
Educating Girls Series

In this series we are focusing on the education of young girls. Gino pulls the Queen of Swords from his Tarot deck, and in this episode, we are challenging the attention span with “Big Fat Story-Time”! At around two-and-a-half to three years old, girls are more focused on solitary play and working with their internal world. Perhaps a good space to listen to long stories! We play a Greek myth, “Iphigenia”. We want to provoke grown-ups to consider what is appropriate for educating young girls. “Princess Programming” is very real and Gino realised how deep this program runs, even into his own actions when he was a teacher. The grown-up question for this episode is, how much does the State influence our values and expectations regarding the behaviour of young girls? We encourage adults to reflect on this, in the hope of changing the “educational landscape” to create a free world.

Now, back to Iphigenia...

The audio story is extracted from the 1908 book “Heroines Every Child Should Know” edited by H.W. Mabie: http://flyingchipmunkpublishing.com/Childrens_Books.htm#Heroes_and_Heroines_ECSK

The current publisher of the book states, “From very early times great honour was paid to courage and strength; qualities which won success and impressed the imagination. The first heroes and heroines were gods or demi-gods, or others, who did difficult things, not for themselves but for others. The men and women whose bravery and great deeds are described in these pages have been selected not because they are faultless in character and life, but because they were brave, generous, self-forgetful, self- sacrificing and capable of splendid deeds. Stories of heroes and heroines have often made others strong and brave and true in the face of great perils and tasks, and this book is put forth in the faith that it will not only pass on the fame of the heroes and heroines of the past but help make heroes and heroines in the present.”

The princess programming wants everything to be easy for young girls, to create an expectation that everything should be easy, that life should hand everything to the young girl as they wish. Young girls are powerful and beautiful. Like the Queen of Swords in the Tarot, young girls can use their power by thinking and speaking to maintain control in dire circumstances to create a good outcome for themselves and others.

The Tarantula in My Purse02 Jan 202400:24:36
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 34

Gino pulls the Rhodochrosite crystal from Judy Hall’s “The Crystal Wisdom Healing Oracle” to guide the show. According to Judy Hall, rhodochrosite is a crystal of transformation from self-reflection and through self-understanding and forgiveness. This crystal corresponds to the tarantula in the world of animal spirit guides. Author of “Animal Spirit Guides”, Dr. Steven Farmer puts the tarantula spirit as a guide for shedding old ways, self-trust (which requires understanding and forgiveness) and pushing forward while dealing with sensitivity. The “Nature Time” segment explores these qualities with Tarantula facts and an anecdote from the Nature Writer, Jean Craighead George. We also play an audiobook about Robert The Bruce and his encounter with a spider. The spider shows him that success is about failing many times, which essentially is what the spider is here to teach us about. It reminds me of spiderman, the hyper-sensitive super-hero. You see? The proof of our connectedness is everywhere!

Young children show us that the Law of Vibration is an objective reality here on earth. The Secret Kindergarten aims to highlight how things like a crystal, a tarantula and striving to succeed, have much more in common than it may seem.

Maya The Bee Returns31 Dec 202300:26:27
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 33

As inspiration for this episode, I pull the citrine card in The Crystal Wisdom Healing Oracle by Judy Hall. According to Judy Hall, citrine brings joy and helps you to interact creatively with the world. She also notes that joyful play creates a “wonder-full” world. The New Age movement speaks to the child in our self. Sadly, this is capitalised on as we were not raised in a way in which we are empowered to overcome our child archetypes and become adults. When we grow up, we have to face our faults and make concerted effort to improve our thoughts, emotions and actions. The New Age movement focuses on the childhood positivity and naivety, encouraging us to bypass the struggle and accept things as they are, in order to manifest a new reality for ourselves. There is a place for crystals, positive thinking and self-acceptance. These tools can help us to try to push ourselves forward and become better people. The cool thing I have discovered is the New Age publications are a wellspring of information for all things early-childhood! Age-appropriate positivity!

Inspired by the citrine card, I thought it was appropriate to bring back Maya The Bee in this episode: we play chapter 10 of Waldemar Bonsels’ 1922 book, The Adventures of Maya The Bee. Maya’s courage, naivety and actions are innate, as it is so with young children. Her joyful play and creative interactions bring her to a world of wonder where she encounters a flower sprite. Engaging with young children in True Care and creative exploration will bring adults in contact with a world of wonder, particularly regarding the unseen! The gifts, modalities and hidden talents, that are promoted as the “cause” in the New Age movement, are really the “effect” of doing the right thing in the world by living according to Natural Law, in particular the Law of Vibration. We are all connected. If one suffers, all suffer. If we live a life of care and influence this on others, children and nature, we are rewarded with the effects: a growing intuition and the opportunity connect with our hidden talents. Perhaps a flower sprite might come into your life from doing the right thing.

The Pied Piper20 Dec 202300:24:00
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 31

The Five of Swords reveals a lack of empathy and harsh criticism. Either to oneself or to others. In this episode, we play The Pied Piper. I was once called the Pied Piper by a parent, as a trail of young children were following behind me. I replied “Yes, minus the child abduction” and the mother laughed hysterically. I loved how she had clearly left that part of the story out of her mind. And some renderings of the story are also “minus the child abduction”. Upon researching the story online, the town of Hamlet has historical evidence of the missing children being a real event. The Pied Piper also being true, but the rats, not so much. Interesting how we have covered the similarities between the rat and young children! Perhaps the frequency of the flute was able to affect both species!

The children of the town were enamoured with the Pied Piper, the children in the preschool were enamoured with me. That can only be for the same reason: using the True currencies that we have, which are time and attention and spending them on children engaged in play!

The adults of the town pulled a “five of swords” on the Pied Piper. They deceived him with no empathy and banned him from the town. Would these kind of people be spending quality time with their children? The children certainly had the freedom to engage with who they pleased. And the Pied Piper in his cheery outfit must have built a rapport with the children right under the town’s greedy noses. Singing, dancing and skipping and playing with the children until they were willing to follow him right out of the town, never to return.

I believe there is a link to the increase in missing children and a decrease in morality and freedom. The more we spend time with our children, the less they will be taken, in mind, heart and soul, by the state. The more we spend time with our children, the less time we will spend with the state anyway. It’s a way out of our current situation.

Far Away and Long Ago17 Dec 202300:26:36
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 30

The Hanged Man of the Tarot is detached from his situation and emotionally disengaged. Being upside down, he has a different perspective or a new view of things. The freeze game is the preschool way to explore the Hanged man and to promote this kind of higher-thought later in life. There is something going on inside the mind of the Hanged Man… he knows something that we may not. He might be suffering for the greater good, he might be doing the great work or enduring a restraint until others are up to speed. Regardless, his mindset required lots of play and physical activity in the early years. Gino tells a Northern Myth that encourages young children’s minds to picture themselves situated on a planet that has been around for a very long time and through many challenges and changes.

Pinocchio Final Episode05 Aug 202500:53:44
This episode brings us to the end of the Pinocchio series. It is time to reflect on ethics, morals and the initiation of the young child at the change of their "milk-teeth". Can we be brave enough to play and learn alongside our children and guide them through their mistakes and life lessons?

Self-Defence Swans12 Dec 202300:24:44
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 29

Gino pulls the Eight of Swords from the Tarot deck. The Eight of Swords speaks to the loss of self-esteem which creates distrust in the self. In Gino’s experience, as an early childhood teacher, the loss of self-esteem happens when young children aren’t allowed to act according to our natural rights or live according to Natural Law. One should not do harm to another, the golden rule…… but what happens in the institutions of the young? Rules are set in place to prevent violence. Yet violence does not cut both ways. Someone must instigate the violation/violence, and someone must stop the violence from happening using physical force. In the early childhood institutions a culture of bullying and victimhood is promoted. “Keep your hands to yourself” is the number one early childhood institutional rule bar none. But what if a young child disregards that rule? Does the victim have a right to use his/her hands to defend? In the institutions… no! Because the victims must remain victims and follow the number one early childhood institutional rule! And then the self-esteem begins to drop. This dynamic is the number one motivator for Gino and his work in The Secret Kindergarten. In this episode we explore Swan symbolism and how the Swan represents self-defence!

The Rabbit and The Crab10 Dec 202300:26:05
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 28

The Chariot card in the Tarot shows someone “getting what they want”. Young children want to get what they want. Often times, what they want is what they need to become an individual later in life. Sometimes, what they want might be affecting other people in their environment. In the early learning centres, some desires are left unchecked and young children go about harming others where it is seen as a dominant genetic sequence being expressed around recessive genetic sequences. Smacking and snatching a toy from another child requires skill…. it’s just that this skill is put to use in a negative way. The victims of wrong-doing require the same skills to get what they want. So, what are these skills? Firstly, let’s assume that psychopathy is not considered a skill…. at least according to you and I. “Getting what you want” requires a lack of fear, a calming of the nerves, managing stressful and difficult situations. We need these skills to maintain our basic needs, our basic rights. Our natural right to not have our well-being taken from us. As we go about life, people try to stop us, verbally and physically, from going about our business. When our business is not causing any harm, we should exercise our rights and keep moving forward.

Rabbits literally must eat poos to get the nutrition they need for an energetic life of love, family and play. Rabbits send us a message to move ahead by leaps and bounds.

Crabs go with the flow, do their dance, make their mark and stay protected, all at the same time. They send us a message to live life with a thicker skin, express ourselves freely and deal with confrontation tactfully.

We can promote the qualities of the crab and rabbit by providing young children with choices (regardless of how we feel at the time), encouraging self-defence and by practicing our breathing exercises when we are in stressful situations. Simple breathing exercises, for young children, help them manage stress and pain. In particular, the out-breath is connected to the easing of the fight-flight response.

Young children should be empowered to get what they want. They should also experience the natural consequences of their actions. This is part of how they learn about morality, true objective morality that is inherent in nature.

Sleeping Beauty, The Cactus and The Raisin06 Dec 202300:23:26
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 27

Gino pulls the Death card from the Tarot deck to guide this episode. An end brings a new start. To end something, to start something, to change…. we can view the present moment as a state of growth. Growth is the ideal. Death is not. Sleeping beauty lies in state, ready for her new life. All kinds of events are happening, behind the scenes, in anticipation for her awakening. A cactus contains life inside itself while surviving the harsh conditions of the dry-spells in the desert. A cactus can be cut down, stored away and planted years later. The little shrivelled raisin had so much going on, behind the scenes, to become the nutritional taste sensation we have as a snack in this episode! Give some raisins to your young child for this episode and appreciate that there is a lot going on behind the scenes with young children. We can help the angelic forces, who work behind the scenes, by guiding young children to see that there is more than meets the eye. We can recognise it and be grateful for it.

A Rat Hugs a Cherry Tree03 Dec 202300:25:09
A Rat Hugs a Cherry Tree
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 26

This episode, number 26, is guided by the Three of Pentacles. What if there was no resistance to freedom in doing what you want? What if your goal was the same as others and you worked together, as a team, with little resistance?

Objectivity in teamwork? How simple! Play and play lots! Cause and effect! Something goes wrong? Oh! Something went wrong. That is not good. Wrong-doing stands out naturally like a sore thumb. Adults don’t feel empowered to allow this natural order to take hold because of fear, because of their own trauma. I know because I did it as a teacher. Once, there were three boys kicking a girl when she was down. Why? Because I had been allowing them do what they thought was right! The girl was becoming a nightmare person, she was terrorising the room: punching; snatching; scratching; bullying. And they had told her to stop, and she attacked them! I was terrified of this incident! I told the boys to stop. I will never forget the look of confusion on their faces. Their faces were the definition of confusion. Put their faces under “confusion” in the darned dictionary! But I was terrified!! Terrified of the parents, the community, the world. Who would allow someone’s little princess be subjected to such “violence”? Princesses aren’t violent themselves, no! They are innocent, beautiful and occasionally spicy! This is just one example where I chickened out of my Natural responsibilities! It’s an example of our adult conditioning to be afraid of doing and supporting what is right. In this case the right thing is understood to be the wrong thing. Firstly, the golden rule is to do no harm. Furthermore the laws of Nature, in this case, the principle of cause and effect, has been deleted. We just had a gang of thugs beating an innocent princess. No cause, just ill-effect.

The best way today to reverse the death of nature is simply to spend time in play with young children and allow the right things to happen. Easier said than done, but it won’t take much if there is more than a handful of adults out there doing so. That’s what charges me to do this work. I see so much power and capability in the people I meet. I know you have it in you to stick up for what is right!

The Frog, The Cat and The Chipmunk29 Nov 202300:24:12
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 25

The Page of Wands reminds us that we can make anything happen by having confidence and enthusiasm. Such a simple message that resonates throughout nature. The cat always lands on his feet, so he engages in all kinds of acrobatic feats. The frog’s giant leap gets him where he wants to go…and he is vocal about it too! The chipmunk lives a solitary life, yet we humans see the chipmunk as a very social animal. We can make anything happen with enthusiasm and confidence. Adult fear takes away confidence and enthusiasm from young children. Fearless care giving of the young is easier said than done, but we must remember that confidence and enthusiasm is inherent in young children, they are full of potential. We must reflect on our behaviour and try to break the cycle of “I cannot” to “I can!”.

In my time of teaching, the confidence and enthusiasm in the kids was a feast or a famine. There were bullies and there were victims. The bullies had the enthusiasm and confidence and it was being taken from the victims. The Natural Law principle of self-defence is a principle for a reason. It is a foundational quality that must be placed to create the man or the woman. We must instill confidence and enthusiasm in our young children in a way that doesn’t encourage them to dominate others. They are special and unique, and that is what makes them equal to others. Therefore, they shouldn’t try and take that specialness away from one another. If someone tries to take that away from them, then it should be protected with confidence and enthusiasm!

As the goalposts of “normal behaviour” move ever-closer to narcissism, psychopathy and machiavellianism… it is crucial that the freedom-minded adults encourage and support young children to develop their confidence and enthusiasm. Show them how to be fearless by refusing to be afraid of what might happen to them.

A Picnic With The Monkeys26 Nov 202300:25:54
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 24

The Eight of Wands encourages us to go for it and move forward without regulations or constraints. Kind of like the feeling you get when you’re at a buffet…. or a picnic! We have to know what we want and that’s why encouraging young children to choose is important. We go on a picnic in this episode so we can choose our favourite foods to bring and feel that sense of freedom. As ever, “with freedom come responsibility” as we discover in the Jataka tale of The Stupid Monkeys. We finish the episode with an affirming poem: You Can Be Anything, by Gary Craig.

The Albatross and The Princesses22 Nov 202300:26:01
The Albatross and The Princesses
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 23

The Ten of Pentacles in the Tarot shows a scene of inheritance. What do our young children inherit? What should they inherit? What is the kind of abundance that is ideal for the young children of the world? The albatross has “inherited” the ability to cruise up in the sky, expending little energy. Never-the-less, he must be careful, smart and witty to make feeding and breeding a success. So the albatross lives a life of abundance but is considerate of others and the world around him. It’s a life of celebration, with a few rules, a few laws, some common sense…. can we say “living according to Natural Law” now??

After the wise albatross, we listen to a grim Grimm story about 12 dancing princesses. We see what happens when a life of royal luxury collides with extreme sheltering, restricting and “helicopter parenting”. What do you think the moral of the story is in this tale? We aren’t 100% sure ourselves but we are calling it part of the fun and a thinking exercise for all the grown-ups out there.

We end with an activity of choices. What is your favourite colour? Even on a conversational level, it is crucial to provide young children with choices. It is important for them to know what they want. This is a big task for the adults to decided what should be given and what should not be handed out so easily. It’s a moral dilemma that the adult must face when working with young children. Giving too much of one thing and taking away too much of another….. you could end up with a murderous princess! The real solution is to spend time with your young children, and plenty of it. The kindness, firmness, boundaries and freedoms will come naturally. Reflect on your actions and make effort to change. That seems to be the one clear mistake of the father king… he didn’t spend time with his daughters.. he provided great riches, set up an extremely firm protective boundary, and bought his way out of spending time with his family.

The King and The Horses19 Nov 202300:25:50
The King and The Horses
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 22

It requires the qualities of a king who must be brave and make big decisions in crucial times. Looking to the animal world, we can see the horse as a symbol of these requirements. The master of a horse must be aware of the precarious situation of the emotional state of the horse. When the horse is mastered, off they gallop with clear direction, speed and determination. Young children should be empowered to get what they want. They should also experience the natural consequences of their actions. This is part of how they learn about morality, true objective morality that is inherent in nature.

Simple breathing exercises, for young children, help them manage stress and pain. In particular, the out-breath is connected to the easing of the fight-flight response. So we do a breathing activity in this episode because it helps young children tap into the energy of the king, the horse and the Tarot’s Chariot.

The Butterfly, The Dog and The Sparrow
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 21

The Sun
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 20

The Sun says “Fake it ‘til you make it”. The sun symbolises the heart of the child. We must win the hearts of the children and embrace the sun while we are at it! In this episode we simply explore some basic facts of the sun as the giver of life. We play “The Boy Who Flew Too High”. This story, based on the story of the ancient Greek myth Icarus, shows that indeed you can fake it ‘til you make it…. just beware of how far you can go! Young children need support in their “naive” courage to just go out and take risks. It’s easier said than done, but “letting the children play” is where magic happens!

Pinocchio Goes to Toy Land22 Jul 202500:53:47
When Pinocchio goes against the advice of the fairy, he is choosing to give into worldly temptation, such as going to Toy Land instead of School. Running deeper than the exoteric message to "stay in school kids", the message speaks to spiritual development, which the fairy symbolises. The fairy represents our spiritual powers and our untapped potential related to universal consciousness and our true selves. Toys, on the other hand, represent temptation. Pinocchio, giving up the spiritual work required to grow and develop, gave into temptation and turned into a donkey. The donkey symbolises folly, foolishness and stupidity. There is something to be said about "delayed gratification". Working hard for a reward is tied in with these life lessons of Pinocchio. We need to create a balance of work and play, not to throw the baby out with the bath-water. The concept of initiation is part of this dynamic too: working hard and overcoming challenges, learning from mistakes. Spiritual teaching are often grounded in common sense. Freemasonic or otherwise, the author of Pinocchio deeply understood symbolism and certainly knew a thing or two about how life should be lived.

The Magpie and The Walnut Tree08 Nov 202300:26:55
The Magpie and The Walnut Tree
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 19

The Lovers card from the tarot says “Understanding the difference between right and wrong shows us that we have free will to choose to do the right thing or the wrong thing”. How do we teach young children the difference between right and wrong? Well, by observing the magpie! The magpie has high intelligence and takes decisive action….. are the actions right or wrong? The magpie steals shiny objects to keep them out of sight in their home. They are highly suspicious of shiny things. So they are defending their family and territory, whereas to us they can be perceived as clever thieves. The walnut tree is also drenched in choosing between right or wrong. The walnut tree symbolises discernment… the husk and leaves are toxic while the nut itself is healthy for the brain and symbolic of intelligence. The nut even looks like a brain! Exploration of (or ideally in) nature can show us the moral lessons we are searching for. Simply spending time with our young children transfers the morals we know through our own realisation of the symbolism in nature.

The Goose and The Lark Amongst The Ferns
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 18

The Eight of Pentacles says “Hard work will pay off and lead to results”. Freedom requires us to believe in ourselves, to be self-reliant, self-determined and persistent. We explore these qualities found in nature by looking at the fern, the goose and a Brothers Grimm story about a farmer being observed by a family of larks. Giving young children choices in their lives develops the following qualities: sense of self; self-determination; self-advocacy; leadership; goal-setting…. qualities that are required for the next generation to live in a world without rulers or slaves. So we end the episode with a game about making choices.

Let’s Play! #SKR1701 Nov 202300:26:14
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 17

In this episode Gino uses the Page of Wands as a guide for the show. The Page of Wands gets immersed in play and exploration. She says “I’ll just see where it goes”. There is potential for this message to be misunderstood. The lovey-dovey new age community might be encouraged to flutter about aimlessly in the pursuit of pleasure, without any goals or higher purpose. This is the paradox where there is the neglected child inside us who never got the chance (or had little opportunity) to just get lost in play for the sake of play. Play and exploration, following the muse, is where the young child develops a sense of self, self-esteem, purpose and all the qualities required for goal-setting and achievement later in life. Parents and caregivers can observe play preferences and extend on these play-patterns through “curation” of the play environment. This is true early childhood education, a scaffolding approach to free-play. The only indoctrination that is happening is an indoctrination into the child becoming the self.

The Turtle and The Rainbow #SKR1629 Oct 202300:25:53
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 16

In this episode Gino uses the Ten of Cups as a guide for the show. The typical image of the Ten of Cups has a family, with the parents in admiration of a rainbow. So we read a book about rainbows in the nature segment of the show. When you have all the support you need to feel content, you then get the opportunity to stand back and admire the beauty of nature. The turtle springs to mind with his family values, sense of belonging, home-symbolism through his shell and just an overall content animal! So we play a couple of turtle myths to explore the symbolism and messages the turtle brings.

The Hawk, The Monkey and The Tree! #SKR15
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 15

This episode is guided by the Three of Pentacles from Gino’s “Influence of The Angels” tarot deck. Regarding young children, Gino believes the messages from the minor arcana relate to self-esteem, namely the importance of it. The three of pentacles speaks to working with others, pushing through criticism, keeping on task and staying focused, working on yourself and your passions without taking time to let others drag you down. It’s speaks to having a strong sense of one’s place in the world… which should be promoted in the early years. Self-esteem is the key and there are themes of motion and movement… Young children learn through play, their brains develop through physical movement and a healthy growing brain leads to healthy thoughts, emotions and actions! So let’s see what we can gather from nature to affirm our discovery of the importance of the Three of Pentacles in the early years.

Self-defence Swans! #SKR1422 Oct 202300:26:27
Self-defence Swans!
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 14

Let’s Learn About (and Breathe Like) Dolphins! PLUS Right vs Wrong Tales! #SKR1318 Oct 202300:24:05
Gino pulls the Devil tarot card for this episode. Broadly speaking, the card means slavery. Slavery is a choice, just like Freedom. So the Devil card speaks of a choice to yield to evil or strive for good. So, this is the theme that is explored for this episode. There is a correspondence between this symbology and the dolphin! So we explore the dolphin. Many believe the dolphin is here to help us create freedom. Gino believes so too and the young children are connected to nature with their love of animals. The freeze game returns because it is fundamental to building self-esteem and self-control…. important qualities to help one be aware of choices and discern the right choice from the wrong choice.

The Freeze Game, Name That Feeling, a Dr Seuss Story and.. Fleas?!?! #SKR1215 Oct 202300:20:21
For this episode, Gino pulls the Temperance card from the Influence of The Angels Tarot. Temperance speaks of balance, moderation and self-control. In the early years, self-regulating behaviours are encouraged through body control in play. So, that’s why the freeze game is back! We can encourage young children to recognise emotions which promotes self-control later in life by promoting self-awareness… much in the way an adult works on this in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with his/her therapist. Perhaps they didn’t play “Name That Feeling”, care of The Secret Kindergarten, in their early years! The Secret Kindergarten refuses to allow young children to go without the development they need to thrive later in life!

The Antelope & Its Friends and Wishes for the World! #SKR1115 Oct 202300:19:52
Gino pulls The Lovers card from the tarot deck. Another repeated archetype with messages for the early years. We let the basic message of friendship guide the content of the show. The antelope brings a message of friendship in the nature segment. The old fable of The Woodpecker, The Tortoise and The Antelope shows us how friendship and valuing this can promote courage, valour and get us out of tricky situations. This kind of story speaks of living according to the Natural Law principle of vibration. Protecting each other from violence because we are all connected. These principles are affirmed in the young listener if the reader of the story has a deeper understanding of the moral.

Mystery Sounds, Wolves and the Freeze Game! #SKR1015 Oct 202300:27:05
For this episode, Gino pulls the Strength card from the Tarot deck. This card is a mainstay of The Secret Kindergarten because of the innate desire to nurture courage and power in young children. Listening skills are one of the foundations of Strength. Understanding the environment and “reading the room” go hand-in-hand with self-esteem. So we do an active listening activity! We listen to a story about a man who is changed into a wolf, exploring the meaning of the Strength card through story and metaphor. We finish the episode off with a Freeze Game! Stillness and self-control are also both related to the Strength card and great tools required for courageous action and doing the Right thing later in life.

Pinocchio and The Fairy22 Jul 202500:57:21
Pinocchio, much like the Fool in the Tarot, is pure potential. He shows how it is possible to do the right thing, or the wrong thing in the present moment. This archetype is about choices in a youthful honesty. It is a card that represents creativity too. It is referenced as such in many books. Modern Tarot books suggest it is a great card to show up in a reading. It suggests that you are beginning an adventure and to have fun and just go for it. It may suggest to approach a creative project in an innocent and unconscious way. All of the reasoning for this archetype reminds me of the lives of young children. They should be encouraged and supported to just go for it. They are creative and naive. Perhaps the journey of the Tarot, the heroes journey is supposed to begin in the early years. Imagine how far humanity would advance if this was the case. So, be encouraging and supportive of young children and let them go for it!

The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children – Episode 915 Oct 202301:38:31
The episode is guided by The Four of Wands. Peace and prosperity. A red castle. Bluebirds singing a sweet song. A hero’s journey must have been completed, so we play King Arthur and also Gino’s favourite, Jack The Giant Killer. Young children need to be the sons and daughter of heroes, in order to grow up to be heroes and prosperous themselves. If that’s not the case, never mind… the adults can join in with the children and commence their own journey alongside them. We finish off with a stillness exercise, sitting in the fortitude of our castle in peace and prosperity… if only for a moment.

The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children – Episode 815 Oct 202301:39:49
Gino pulls The King of Wands as an indicator for the theme of this episode. The Whimsical Tarot points to Prince Charming as an archetype that corresponds to The King of Wands. So in episode eight, we listen to some stories that involve the Prince Charming character. It turns out he never seems very involved, yet when you pay attention to him, the stories seem to be about him achieving his goal… to be with the one he is in love with. When the Charming Prince achieves this, he also creates balance and harmony in the world around him… creating the happy ending in the stories he appears in. The King of Wands speaks to this natural leadership. While the Fairy Tales of the handsome prince seem to focus on everyone else, the prince is in charge of his world and achieving his goals with tolerance, care and love for others. The Secret Kindergarten wants to keep the Prince Charming energy ignited in young children so they can live their Great Work and be successful in their adult life. This show, from the stories presented within, is a reminder for us adults to unite the masculine and feminine aspects of ourselves and create balance and harmony in the world through action and care.

The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children – Episode 715 Oct 202301:39:45
Why does death feature in so many fairy tales and fables of old? Like life, popular stories for children have a strong start, a journey and a strong finish. There is already a metaphor to life in story. Birth and death is easily placed into children’s stories as children are immersed in the metaphors and symbolism. This is because of their situation… a developed subconscious mind and the hidden angelic forces helping them to make sense of the world as they develop the conscious mind through play.

Gino pulls the Queen of Swords for this episode. A correspondence is found with Red Riding Hood. Themes of feminine power, courage, a sharp tongue and doing the right thing are at play. The story of Red Riding Hood has been re-interpreted throughout history. Are you brave enough to play the original story to a young girl in your life? The Secret Kindergarten seeks to erase the “princess programming” and also the “white knighting” (where girls can do no wrong) in the world. Why not encourage all young children to face realities and be brave, and explore the morals of cause-and-effect and self defence. Does a girl have a right to hit a boy? Does a boy have a right to defend himself against a girl? Does a girl have the ability to be brave, courageous and strong? Is there a way of being right and powerful in a feminine way? The Secret Kindergarten wants young children to explore these themes and many others. After all, “death-play” in young children is real, required and natural… it cannot be removed and should not be repressed. The truth is, death is not a big deal in the world of young children. In fact, it is part of the fun in imaginary play. And imaginary play is where the brain develops the most and the best. So, let’s bring back some old original stories and hear them in all their deathly glory!

In this episode we weave the connections between people, plants and animals through exploration, stories and music with guidance from the Tarot. We explore the spiritual aspect of trees through stories. We tell a Cambodian folk tale involving a cheeky rabbit. We also reveal the correspondences between trees and humans by reading a wonderful story called “Peter and The Tree Children”. Gino draws the Strength card from the Tarot, which is a symbolic quality of trees! We segue into Nature talk with the Lion, who is associated with the quality of strength.

In this episode Gino is feeling loved and pulls the lovers card from his tarot deck. We discover this card corresponds to the fairy tale Beauty and The Beast. We wonder how and why? We continue with The Adventures of Maya The Bee and play some Aesop’s Fables! Gino reads a story he knows from his own childhood, “Where The Wild Things Are”. When Max is left alone he connects with his imagination and goes on an adventure to connect with the wild things…. Are they what manifested because of his yelling match that he had with his mother? Regardless, the union of opposites and the balancing theme of the lovers card is certainly played out in this classic story.

The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children- Episode 415 Oct 202301:40:43
In this episode we talk about feeling brave. Gino pulls The Fool card from The Influence of The Angels Tarot. Last week’s Two of Cups concerns the start of the adult-to-child journey. The Fool card concerns the start of the journey of the young child. The Secret Kindergarten wishes all young children to start the journey of The Fool at the appropriate time…. early childhood! We explore the similarities between The Fool and The Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz. Bravery, adventure, “naivety”, exploration and play creates the best thinkers! The innate qualities of the child who is allowed to take risks from a place of parental love and connection. Young children can become thinkers who think the best thoughts and who take the best actions later in life.
The nature segment uncovers our first tree… the shaky, trembling Poplar, which is, synchronistically, a tree of bravery and connection with the unseen forces. Two of the most important factors of child development, or let’s just say the main concerns of The Secret Kindergarten’s desire for freedom on Earth.

In this episode we talk about resentment and how you must express your anger to feel better so you can grow and develop in a healthy way. We draw the Two of Cups once again. An important card regarding the development of young children. Gino shares a poem to explain The Two of Cups! We talk about the rat as a spirit guide as they are close spiritual helpers of young children! We check out Tiger symbolism in the nature segment. They are the patron animal of sport! We put a brave face on and play an old vinyl recording of The Pied Piper! We explore what this story really means. It can’t be a coincidence that the rats and the young children are controlled by the frequency of the Piper’s flute! With audiobooks, original poetry and Nancy Stewart’s beautiful music….we are starting to think this is a great show for all ages!

The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children – Episode 215 Oct 202301:34:07
In this episode, we re-visit the Two of Cups Tarot card. We further explore the meaning of the Two of Cups with regards to the parent-child relationship. The Two of Cups resonates so strongly with the message of The Secret Kindergarten, that Gino is thinking of changing the name of the podcast to “The Two of Cups”! We talk about correspondences with The Owl and The Pussycat, once again, and dive into said animals as spirit guides. The nature segment takes us to the woods to learn about the owl through fable, spirit and music. We listen to chapter two of The Adventures of Maya The Bee. Gino customises some New Age affirmations to be in line with Nature and the hearts of young children. We end the journey with a group activity that develops the skills of self awareness and focus.

The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children – Episode 115 Oct 202301:35:48
In the first episode of The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show, I pull the Two of Cups card from the tarot deck and talk about friendship, love and connectedness. We found a correspondence between the Two of Cups and The Owl and The Pussycat. We take guidance and assurances from Animal Spirit guides of the owl, cat and also the rat! We talk about how the qualities of the rat show how the rat is a spiritual helper for young children. We read an awesome book that uncovers an uncanny harmony between birds and plants. We play the first chapter of The adventures of Maya The Bee, who is learning to rebel, grow independent and take risks for the greater good. I read a book that aims to tackle the fear of the dark in young children. Finishing off with a ritual of wishes for the world. I hope this episode inspires children of all ages to spend time in play so they can discover and affirm their understanding of Natural Law and stand up for freedom.

Pinocchio Goes to Jail14 Jul 202500:52:08
The Secret Kindergarten Radio Show for Young Children Ep. 125

Pinocchio goes out and lives life to the fullest, making many mistakes and trying to get by without responsibilty. He is learning, through experience, that this doesn't work out so well. There is an effect to the cause. There are consequences to actions. All his rough-sawn actions are symbolic of the hand-made wooden puppet that he is... rough around the edges and being smoothed out and honed by life... until he becomes a boy, a real human being. As the story of Pinocchio unfolds, we see the Freemasonic knowledge of the author become more present. Pinocchio's efforts represent a spiritual way of living life by trying to do well, be virtuous, and learn from mistakes to achieve enlightenment.

Pinocchio Returns29 Jun 202500:49:56
Pinocchio is considered to be, at least in part, an allegory of Italian society in the 19th century. The author, Carlo Collodi, was against the unification of Italy by monarchy in his era. It is considered likely that he was trying to show children the corruption and evil of those adults in positions of power and authority. With so much corruption, allegory and moral lessons contained in a long-standing and most popular children's story... Collodi cared and curated this kind of message to come across. Perhaps Pinocchio has stood the test of time because humanity still hasn't quite learned the lessons that Collodi was trying to teach us. Consider a man that was so informed, concerned and caring that he wrote a masterpiece to try and warn future generations of the kinds of evil that hides in plain sight. His idea of a solution to monarchy may or may not have been correct, but that is beside the point to the work he set out to do with Pinocchio. Pinocchio comes across as an emotional, emphatic work to address a serious emergency, rather than a penned political propaganda.

Pinocchio is a story of initiation, was written by a politically active Freemason. Can you see the plurality of Pinocchio and the Fool of the Tarot? Of course the story was written in the 19th century, a time of the rise of secret societies and illumination. The mystery traditions hold allegory, symbolism, archetypes and ancient tales in high regard. Pinocchio is certainly a reflection of someone on the path in the esoteric era. I find fables, such as Pinocchio, more frightening than older Fairy Tales. The allegorical stories (fables) perhaps ring a little to true, are too confronting, too close to home. We see our mistakes in them. I believe this is the idea of them. The human mistakes we make, in our lives, resonate with archetypal characters of the Tarot and speak of a deeper or broader issue within ourselves that requires an initiation to overcome. Pinocchio is bursting with initiations, every scene, mistakes are on the horizon within every paragraph! I believe that Pinocchio is certainly an older child's story. Not because it is one of the most disturbing children's stories, but because of the lack of fantasy and a relatively "overt" allegory in comparison to Fairy Tales. This tale of a marionette is one of the most translated stories of all time! It has endured and made a lasting impact on our culture, which says something about the allegory itself. Pinocchio is the Fool in the Tarot, on a hero's journey learning the rules of life by breaking them. Many of us continue to make the same mistakes through our life without initiation into better actions. Pinocchio is a dark story because of the darkness we have inside us, darkness we endure and also have the power to overcome! If a puppet can overcome the darkness, then so can we! There are likely secrets inside the story that will point us in the direction of what we need to overcome inside ourselves to "level up" in our lives. So, which character affects you the most? Which Tarot card does that character represent? These are the aspects of children's Fables and Fairy Tales that bring the adult reader on an explorative journey alongside the children. Everyone benefits from Fable and Fairy Tales.

Pinocchio21 Jun 202500:34:31
Pinocchio is a story of initiation, of striving to overcome darkness and do the right thing. Pinocchio is a character that was weaponised to promote fascism, well after Collodi wrote the story. The 19th century was full of bright, creative and spiritual people. Some of these people created powerful, symbolic art that had such Universal appeal, it could be "hi-jacked" and used for other and perhaps nefarious reasons. It reminds me of how Disney franchise is perceived. A corporate machine using timeless storylines and archetypes for personal gain and potentially disabling our children subversively. I think the importance of highly symbolic and archetypal children's tales is that they are spiritually sustaining and contain accidental or intentional spiritual teachings based on how things naturally work in our shared reality. Evil likes to steel the best, most creative and most powerful ideas. The best creative content in humanity is the Fairy Tale, so we must read Fairy Tales, symbolic stories for children that tap into our soul. We must try harder and do good in the world. Why? Because evil is ever willing to steal and co-opt our ideas. Evil has more time to develop our story for us, because we are busier using our creative capacity!

Jack is Back!07 Jun 202500:48:27
There is nothing that we cannot do. We can do anything that we put our mind to. We can affect the growth of plants by transferring our intentions and energy onto them, like in The Grape Vine's Story. The lady, in a way, deceives the grapevine to please her. Jack in Jack The Giant Killer shows us that we can outsmart and outplay grown-ups as young children. We can defeat opponents much bigger than us. We need to trick our minds into believing it is all possible and then taking action. Young children are capable of this when they are affirmed and recognised as confident and capable humans. We need to let the young keep their magic and bring it into adulthood to create the kind of world we were meant to live in. Beans are planted on Ascension day, they are associated with wisdom, luck and connecting to higher realms, raising consciousness. Self-defence and justice go hand-in-hand with the symbolism of beans. It's likely that the themes and symbolism, in the stories of Jack and the Beanstalk, are no coincidence. They were created by those of a deep understanding of Natural Law or subconsciously inspired the Creator himself in an act of synchromysticism.
