Have you ever heard the analogy about growth and the butterfly? We may have mentioned it on the show before, but it’s always worth repeating. It may sound cheesy or oversimplified, but we can all learn powerful life lessons about growth and the process of transformation when we observe the caterpillar’s journey. When the caterpillar is in the cocoon and is almost ready to come on the scene with their new wings, they have to go through a pretty rough season. In order to strengthen their new wings so they can soon fly, they must start pushing (and keep pushing) as hard as they can against the resistance of the cocoon so they will soon one day break out. Do you catch our drift? The point is, in order to spread our wings and fly to new heights, sometimes we first have to build up a little strength. The truth is, even though the growth process can be sticky and overwhelming, the harder the season is, typically the bigger the breakthrough is at the end. For the caterpillar and the butterfly, the next step in their growth process comes a little bit more naturally. For us, humans and entrepreneurs, “building our wings” and learning the tough lessons we need to succeed can be an emotional minefield and can leave you feeling more down in the dumps than flying high. We have experienced this many times in both life and business. Now we know, that when things start to feel hard that means breakthrough is right around the corner. Can you feel it? Recently, we have been talking to a few friends and our community in the Rainmaker Mastermind and we noticed that A LOT of people feel like this season of life has been a little bit harder than normal. For some, it has been a lot harder than normal. Once we heard we aren’t the only ones going through a rough season, we needed to do this episode! “Guess who’s back…back again”! Can you name that song? LOL Baby number two is here and we are back in the swing of things! When we found out that we were pregnant with baby Ollie, we knew we wanted to be intentional about taking time off to have a proper maternity/paternity leave. When we had our first son Kaizen, we didn’t do a good job in this area so we knew it would take some planning to make it happen. We are so thankful we did and we were able to block off two months and focus on family, fun, and making memories as a family. If you have heard some of our previous episodes, you know that it was a crazy pregnancy. So, by the time baby Ollie was here we needed a little time off. Quickly things changed when we found ourselves back in the hospital with a health scare with Oliver. (Check out episode 60 for that story.) After that, we took some time to be intentional about resting, healing, and doing things that bring us to life. We could spend hours talking about all the lessons and things we learned during this time but we decided for this episode just to pass on some of the biggest “golden chicky nuggets” that could help you in your entrepreneurial journey. If you have ever taken time off for longer than a few weeks, it starts to feel like every day is Saturday. At first, it’s amazing, but after a few weeks, it can start to get depressing because there is no routine and you stop doing the things that bring you joy. Welcome back to another episode of the Rainmaker Family Show! Earlier this year, we worked ahead as much as we could in our business and recorded a few episodes before the birth of our second son. Now that baby Oliver is here, we are back in the studio and recording new episodes! If you have kids of your own, you know how quickly things can change. That’s why we wanted to take a couple of episodes and give you some life updates! If you missed last week, we shared the fantastic story of Oliver Wave’s birth. If you missed it, go check that one out first! It will give you more context and behind-the-scenes info about our pregnancy, delivery, and everything leading up to today’s story. Only three short weeks after Ollie was born, It all started when Chelsey noticed Ollie looked a little "blue," so we took him to urgent care. The Doctor came in and recommended we get him monitored at the hospital as soon as possible. From there, things started to move fast. The Doctors and Nurses started poking him and hooking him up to stuff. He was a champ the whole time, but for us, it was hard to watch. What we thought was not very serious turned very serious quickly. Our baby's breaths began to get labored, and every once in a while, you would notice he would totally stop. Ten seconds for newborns is normal, but he'd go 20 or 30 seconds sometimes…while we all would try to wake him. This is what led the Doctor to decide that he needed to be airlifted to a hospital in Sacramento. Chelsey gets in an ambulance to head to the airport, and Stephen gets in the car and speeds the hour and a half drive to the hospital while she flies overhead. Hit play to hear what happens next! It was a wild 3-day roller coaster, but we were super thankful we trusted Chelsey's mamma’s intuition and took Oliver in when we did.
