Former chaplain to the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Isabelle Hamley is on a mission to normalise the subject of mental health within the church. It's a subject she's familiar with, having dealt with anorexia as a teenager, and an abusive childhood home environment which resulted in PTSD. In the midst of these challenges, she found solace in a vibrant Christian community in her home nation of France, who loved her and cared for her. Dr Isabelle felt called to Christian ministry as young as 16 but did not immediately pursue it due to her church's lack of women leaders at the time. She later moved to England for a master's degree and trained as a probation officer, which helped her apply Christian theology to tough real-world situations. But in the aftermath of the Brexit vote, Dr Isabelle said she felt "profoundly unwelcomed", with her children experiencing xenophobia at school. Nevertheless, she is committed to reconciliation and ecumenical relations, seeking empathy and understanding with those she disagrees with. Esther Higham meets the veteran church leader and pioneer of Newfrontiers, Terry Virgo. Terry began his ministry with a small house church in Seaford on the south coast of England in 1968 with "no sense at all" that it would one day become a worldwide movement with nearly 2,000 churches globally. In those early days, Newfrontiers was part of the growing charismatic movement, which emphasised the gifts of the Holy Spirit including healing and prophecy. Another distinctive of the movement was its desire to move away from what had been viewed as dry church traditions of the time. Terry stepped back from day to day leadership in 2011, handing on the baton to 15 other apostolic leaders, but he's far from retired. Aged 83 he continues to travel globally, speaking and ministering. It's twelve months since Dr Rosemarie Mallett was appointed Bishop of Croydon. When Kaya Jones joined the Pussycat Dolls in the early 2000s she dreamed of fame and stardom. Instead she never felt good enough, being told to lose weight, and encouraged to have an abortion when she fell pregnant.
