| Preston Sprinkle on Biblical truth, homosexuality and politics | 18 Oct 2024 | 00:49:49 | |
Preston Sprinkle isn't scared of being cancelled. In fact it seems there's no subject he isn't prepared to debate. The Biblical scholar and Theology professor regularly takes on hot-button topics ranging from sexuality, race, patriotism and hell.
He co-founded The Center for Faith, Sexuality and Gender which in their own words seeks to bring together leaders presenting 'a strong biblical ethic of marriage, sexuality and gender.'
In his book People to be Loved: Why Homosexuality is not just an Issue he took on one of the most controversial questions The Church faces in the modern age with a mission not to compromise biblical truth or compassion for those within the LGBT community.
In his latest book Exiles: The Church in the Shadow of Empire he explores The Church's relationship with politics against the backdrop of his own country's upcoming US election.
In this week's podcast Christianity Magazine Editor Sam Hailes sits down with Preston to talk through what the next big LGBT issue will be and why 1st century Christians didn't care which caesar took the throne.

God is shaking things up! That's according to the general secretary of Churches Together in England. Bishop Mike Royal was selected to pray for King Charles at the coronation and has been dubbed a “Christian man of influence”, but he's far more concerned with how the Church works together for the good of society than how others see him. Moreover, he's worried there's "too much cult of personality in the Church". In this interview with Premier Christianity's Emma Fowle, Bishop Mike talks about his pioneering work with Christian charities Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) and the Cinnamon Network, hits back at the false dichotomy between sharing the gospel with words and actions, and predicts what the Church might look like in 2033.

| Dr Isabelle Hamley: Brexit, reconciliation and encountering God through his Church | 25 Aug 2023 | 00:48:39 | |
Former chaplain to the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Isabelle Hamley is on a mission to normalise the subject of mental health within the church. It's a subject she's familiar with, having dealt with anorexia as a teenager, and an abusive childhood home environment which resulted in PTSD. In the midst of these challenges, she found solace in a vibrant Christian community in her home nation of France, who loved her and cared for her. Dr Isabelle felt called to Christian ministry as young as 16 but did not immediately pursue it due to her church's lack of women leaders at the time. She later moved to England for a master's degree and trained as a probation officer, which helped her apply Christian theology to tough real-world situations. But in the aftermath of the Brexit vote, Dr Isabelle said she felt "profoundly unwelcomed", with her children experiencing xenophobia at school. Nevertheless, she is committed to reconciliation and ecumenical relations, seeking empathy and understanding with those she disagrees with.
Dr Isabelle Hamley's latest book, Struggling with God's Mental Health and Christian Spirituality, is available now

| Newfrontiers founder Terry Virgo: Restoring the church, witnessing miracles and longing for revival | 14 Jul 2023 | 00:47:59 | |
Esther Higham meets the veteran church leader and pioneer of Newfrontiers, Terry Virgo. Terry began his ministry with a small house church in Seaford on the south coast of England in 1968 with "no sense at all" that it would one day become a worldwide movement with nearly 2,000 churches globally. In those early days, Newfrontiers was part of the growing charismatic movement, which emphasised the gifts of the Holy Spirit including healing and prophecy. Another distinctive of the movement was its desire to move away from what had been viewed as dry church traditions of the time. Terry stepped back from day to day leadership in 2011, handing on the baton to 15 other apostolic leaders, but he's far from retired. Aged 83 he continues to travel globally, speaking and ministering. In this in depth interview, Terry recounts his own conversion to Christianity and discusses both the miracles he's personally witnessed, and his ongoing desire to see revival. | |||

It's twelve months since Dr Rosemarie Mallett was appointed Bishop of Croydon. In this interview with Premier Christianity's Megan Cornwell, Dr Mallett describes her early life growing up in Barbados and subsequent experiences of racism when she moved to the UK at the age of seven. "It was pointed out to me that my colour was a problem, because I was black." With her wider family also experiencing prejudice, Rosemarie became more politically aware and involved in fighting for racial justice. In discussing her Christian faith and decision to become ordained, she also shares her struggle with the Church of England as an institution, due to its history of involvement in colonialism, imperialism, and chattel slavery. Ultimately, she decided to play a role in repairing the breach and contributing to a more just and inclusive church. Speaking ahead of the 75th anniversary of Windrush, Rosemarie also reflects on the resilience and contributions of those who came to the UK with hope and expectation, despite facing racism and marginalisation. She acknowledges that there is still work to be done in addressing the ongoing injustices faced by this generation and their descendants.
