Search for the Glimmers: Why Human Connection Matters at Work23 sept. 202600:54:54

What happens when you take a team of lawyers out of the office and put them in a freezing cold lake together?

In this episode, I’m joined by Sarah Whitemore and Catriona Ralls from Warner Goodman - lawyers, colleagues and regular members of our Women Who PLNGE community.

We explore the power of human connection - at work and in life and how shared experiences, vulnerability and simple positive habits have helped strengthen their team culture and the relationships they build with their clients.

But we also go deeper into relationships, counselling, community, cold-water swimming, the expectations we place on others and taking responsibility for our own happiness.

We explore:

  • Why human connection matters at work
  • How vulnerability and shared experiences can strengthen teams
  • Why relationships can be a competitive advantage
  • The power of community and taking responsibility for our own happiness
  • Small positive habits that help us feel and perform at our best

And we finish with an important reminder:

Stop searching for the red flags and start searching for the glimmers.

The small moments of good are everywhere. Sometimes we just need to get better at noticing them.

Is this it?15 sept. 202600:37:48

In this episode of the Positive Habits Podcast, I’m joined by career coach and diversity & inclusion expert Sally for a brilliant conversation about women, careers, confidence and the power of backing yourself.

After more than 20 years in the corporate world, Sally had reached the room she'd worked so hard to get into only to realise it wasn't where she wanted to be. She took the leap, left corporate life and built a career helping other women accelerate their careers, navigate change and create work that actually works for them.

We talk about why so many capable women believe they have a confidence problem, when there is often something much deeper going on - from self-worth and self-advocacy to workplace culture and the environments we're trying to succeed in.

We also explore that mid-career moment when you've seemingly done everything "right" - built the career, earned the salary, reached the title but still find yourself asking: Is this it?

Sally shares a simple but powerful piece of advice if something in your life or career feels off:

Don't suppress it. Get curious.

We talk about using journaling to imagine what you actually want your life and work to look and feel like, why investing in yourself can be such a powerful move, and why growth inevitably requires us to get uncomfortable.

And, of course, I ask Sally about her number one positive habit.

Which I thought would be exercise, but it was something quite different.

In this episode we talk about:

  • Why Sally walked away from a 20+ year corporate career
  • The barriers still preventing women from progressing at work
  • Why a "lack of confidence" might not actually be the problem
  • The importance of investing in yourself
  • Why discomfort is part of growth
  • The mid-career "Is this it?" moment
  • Using journaling to get curious about what you really want
  • The importance of female communities and support

If something doesn't feel right, don't ignore it.

Give yourself 10 minutes with a notebook and ask:

What do I want my life to feel like?

You don't need to have all the answers. Just give yourself the space to start listening.

Don’t Wait for the Wake-Up Call01 sept. 202600:38:08

What happens when life forces you to stop?

In this episode of the Positive Habits Podcast, Kat is joined by wellness industry expert Clair Davidson, who shares the extraordinary story of being unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer and the mindset that helped her navigate treatment and come out the other side with a very different perspective on life.

Clair had spent more than 30 years working in the wellness, spa and hospitality industry. But like so many of us, while she was busy looking after, supporting and helping other people, her own health often came further down the list.

After going to hospital with pain she initially thought could be appendicitis, doctors discovered a large mass on her ovary. Clair was later diagnosed with stage 3b ovarian cancer and went on to complete 18 rounds of chemotherapy.

Rather than focusing only on what she couldn't control, Clair made a conscious decision to focus on what she could.

She used breathwork, movement, music, humour and the support of an incredible community around her to help her through treatment - even reframing her chemotherapy sessions as her own "spa therapy treatments."

Kat and Clair talk openly about the role mindset played in Clair's personal experience, while recognising that everyone's experience of cancer and serious illness is different.

But this conversation goes far beyond cancer.

It's about how easy it is to ignore the signals our bodies are giving us. To say I'll deal with it tomorrow. To look after everyone else before ourselves. And to wait until something happens before we finally make our own health a priority.

In this episode, Kat and Clair discuss:

  • Why she chose to focus on what she could control
  • The role of mindset, breathwork, music and movement during her treatment
  • How a 60-person WhatsApp group helped her feel supported throughout her journey
  • Why community matters during difficult times
  • The danger of constantly putting your own health to one side
  • Why people working in wellness can still struggle to prioritise their own wellbeing
  • How demanding jobs, travel and shift patterns can make healthy habits difficult to maintain
  • Learning to listen to your body before it forces you to stop

We shouldn't have to wait until we lose our health to start valuing it.

A gentle note: This episode includes discussion of ovarian cancer, chemotherapy and women's health. Clair is sharing her personal experience rather than medical advice. If you're worried about symptoms or changes in your body, please speak to an appropriate healthcare professional.

Cold Water: The Greatest Teacher10 août 202600:07:07
Cold Water Isn't the Transformation. It's the Teacher.

In this solo episode, Kat explores why deliberately choosing discomfort can change the way you respond to every challenge life throws at you.

Using the science behind cold water exposure, she explains how stepping into discomfort teaches your brain that difficult doesn't always mean dangerous.

Whether it's a cold plunge, a difficult conversation, starting a business, speaking in public or making a big life decision, the lessons are exactly the same.

This episode isn't really about cold water.

It's about becoming the kind of person who keeps promises to themselves.

In this episode you'll discover:
  • Why your brain reacts to cold water in the same way it reacts to many everyday challenges.
  • The difference between discomfort and danger.
  • How cold exposure trains your nervous system to stay calm under pressure.
  • What the latest research says about cold water, stress resilience, mood, focus and recovery.
  • Why confidence is built through evidence, not affirmations.
  • The surprising reason cold water communities create such strong human connection.
  • A simple challenge to help you step outside your comfort zone this week.
Key Takeaway

Cold water isn't the magic.

It's simply a practice ground.

Every time you deliberately choose discomfort, you prove to yourself that you're capable of more than your brain initially believes. And every promise you keep to yourself becomes another piece of evidence that builds confidence, resilience and trust.

You Are Not Your Thoughts30 juil. 202600:09:36

How many opportunities have you talked yourself out of because of a thought that wasn't actually true?

In this solo episode, Kat reflects on nearly five years since taking the leap to start The Morning GameChanger and reveals the invisible battle that almost stopped her before she even began.

From believing "Who's going to listen to me?" to building an international speaking business and a podcast listened to around the world, Kat shares why your biggest obstacle is rarely your ability - it's the stories you tell yourself.

If you've ever wanted to start a business, launch a passion project, improve your health, or simply make a positive change, this episode will help you recognise the thoughts that may be keeping you stuck - and show you one simple habit that can help you move forward.

In this episode you'll discover:
  • Why your thoughts are often your biggest barrier - not your circumstances.
  • The limiting beliefs that almost stopped Kat from starting her business.
  • How journaling helped separate facts from fear.
  • Why action creates evidence that challenges self-doubt.
  • Why "failure" is often just valuable feedback pointing you in the right direction.
  • A simple question to ask whenever your mind tells you you can't.

You are not your thoughts.

Your thoughts are often stories. When you learn to notice them instead of believing them, you create space to choose a different response, take action, and build the life you truly want. Small actions create evidence. Evidence builds confidence.

When You Neglect Yourself, Everyone Pays the Price15 juil. 202600:10:10

We spend so much of our lives taking care of everyone else. Our work. Our families. Our responsibilities.

But when was the last time you truly invested in yourself?

In this 10 minute solo episode, Kat explores why so many of us struggle to prioritise ourselves, where those beliefs come from, and why even just 10 minutes a day can completely change how you show up in every area of your life.

Drawing on her own story of life explosion, four years of speaking to thousands of people across more than 20 countries, and simple real-life examples, Kat challenges the belief that self-care is selfish and shares why it is actually the foundation of sustainable performance.

In this episode you'll discover:

  • Why so many of us put ourselves last
  • The childhood conditioning that shapes our daily habits
  • The question Kat asks every audience around the world
  • Why your first 10 minutes can shape the next 24 hours
  • How one small habit creates a ripple effect at work and at home
  • Why your loved ones often get the worst version of you
  • Simple ways to start prioritising yourself today

Key takeaway:

When you neglect yourself, everyone pays the price. When you invest in yourself, everyone benefits.

You don't need another hour in your day.

You just need one small positive habit.

If you’re going through a difficult time right now, this episode is for you.

  • We often turn to short-term coping mechanisms (like alcohol), but they can make things harder long-term
  • The “101 of being human” is what keeps you grounded during tough times
  • You don’t need to solve the whole problem - just stabilise yourself first
  • Small, consistent habits create structure, clarity, and resilience

Can Food Help Bring a City Back to Life?21 avr. 202600:50:14

In this episode of The Positive Habits Podcast, Kat sits down with James, the face behind Portsmouth Food Guide, to talk about far more than great places to eat.

James shares his passion for Portsmouth, why protecting local high streets and pub culture matters so deeply to him, and how food, hospitality and community are all connected.

The conversation explores the challenges facing independent businesses, the power of customer experience, and why helping people discover local gems can have a much bigger ripple effect than we realise.

Kat and James also talk honestly about what it takes to juggle purpose-driven work, family life, a growing platform, and personal wellbeing. From consistency and time management to learning how to say no, this episode is a real and refreshing conversation about building something meaningful while trying to stay grounded.

If you care about community, connection, local business, and the habits that help us manage modern life, you’ll love this one.

Highlights

  • Why James believes Portsmouth deserves a brighter future
  • The changing habits on high streets and hospitality
  • Why pubs still matter as places of connection and community
  • How local food culture can help revitalise a city
  • The role of consistency, passion and boundaries when building something from scratch

Local businesses need more than customers - they need champions.

James’ mission goes beyond food reviews. He wants to keep Portsmouth’s high streets alive, support independent businesses, and encourage people to explore more of what their city has to offer.

Experience matters just as much as the product.
Whether it’s a coffee shop, a pub or a restaurant, people remember how they were made to feel. Great service, warmth and personality create loyalty.

Community spaces still matter deeply.
Pubs, cafés and local venues can be places of real connection, especially in a time when loneliness and isolation are rising.

ABOUT THE GUEST

James is a Portsmouth-based community worker who works for a local charity called Enable Ability and also Founder of the Portsmouth FoodGuide, a combination of food, tourism and social impact; championing independent businesses whilst creating inclusive opportunities for young people with additional needs through a project called the Portsmouth Teenage Project. With more than 18,000 engaged followers on multiple social media platforms and ambitious plans for electric vehicle food tours tied in with the city’s newly-developed cruise industry, he connects local produce from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to a global market of visitors. James is driven by a belief that Portsmouth has the ability to thrive when everyone has a seat at a table talking about the city’s rich history and when the city acts as the epicentre for delivering local produce in historic settings.

This is a conversation about courage, intuition, and the power of small, simple habits - especially the ones we often overlook.

  • Burnout doesn’t happen overnight
Stress → anxiety → exhaustion → emotional overwhelm and often we don’t intervene early enough.
  • One small habit can create a breakthrough
For Carol, it was something simple: inhaling essential oils to regulate stress in the moment she needed it.
  • Your lowest point can become your purpose
What started as survival became a tool to help others - and eventually, a brand that she is now scaling.
  • Experience creates belief
Carol’s colleagues didn’t need convincing - they felt the impact immediately and kept coming back.
  • We’re overlooking simple performance tools
Breath, scent, pauses - the basics that can transform how we feel and perform.

  • “My husband said: I feel like we’re losing you and that was my wake-up call.”
  • The moment Carol realised her oils weren’t just helping her… but everyone around her

Building the Future of Fashion at 21 24 mars 202600:42:02

In this episode of The Positive Habits Podcast, Kat sits down with the brilliant Izzy, founder of Uforma, to talk about the future of fashion, the hidden cost of fast fashion, and why finding clothes that truly fit can completely change how we feel.

After meeting at a recent event hosted by Melinda Palomino, with special guest Roxie Nafousi, Kat knew she had to bring Izzy onto the podcast. At just 21, Izzy is already building a startup with a powerful mission: to make online shopping more accurate, more confident, and far less wasteful.

Together, Kat and Izzy explore the real problem with online fashion today - not just overconsumption, but the fact that so many people are forced to guess their size, order multiple options, and send items back. Izzy shares how Uforma is using AI to help solve that problem by creating a more personalised shopping experience, giving customers a better idea of how clothes will actually fit their body before they buy.

They also unpack the wider conversation around Shein, Temu, TikTok shopping, returns culture, rental fashion, and what needs to change if we want a more sustainable fashion industry.

And of course the conversation ends with habits. Izzy shares the one practice she keeps coming back to in order to manage stress and avoid burnout while building a business: journaling - or as Kat prefers to call it, a good old-fashioned brain dump.

This is a fascinating conversation about confidence, consumer habits, startup life, sustainability, and building something meaningful at a young age.

Overthinking? Try This One Simple Habit17 mars 202600:09:47

Overthinking is becoming a global challenge and it’s only getting worse in a world full of noise, information, and constant distraction.

In this short 10 minute solo episode, Kat shares one of the most powerful (and underused) positive habits to combat overthinking, reduce anxiety, and improve performance: journaling - reframed as “brain dumping.”

This simple, low-cost habit can help you regain control of your thoughts, build clarity, and take meaningful action in both your work and personal life.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Why overthinking is increasing
  • How your thoughts shape beliefs, behaviours, and habits
  • Why “journaling” might be putting you offand what to do instead
  • The power of “brain dumping” to calm your mind and nervous system
  • How writing helps you challenge unhelpful or untrue thoughts
  • How this habit creates clarity, confidence, and better decision-making

Through writing regularly, she gained clarity on her career, lifestyle, and relationships leading to meaningful change that she couldn’t access just by thinking or talking.

Key Takeaway:
You don’t need to solve everything in your head.
Get it out of your head and onto paper.

Clarity comes from creating space - not more thinking.

Your Action Step (Start Today):

  • Grab a plain notebook and pen
  • Spend 5–10 minutes writing down everything on your mind
  • No structure. No rules. No pressure.

Just write.

Final Thought:
This is one of the most underutilised habits available to you.
It costs nothing but can change everything.

How to Listen to Yourself in a World Full of Noise10 mars 202600:38:28

In this deeply honest episode of The Positive Habits Podcast, Kat Thorne is joined by Pardeep Gill for a powerful conversation about healing, resilience, and learning to trust yourself again.

Pardeep shares her personal journey of leaving a 14-year abusive marriage, the physical toll trauma took on her body, and how simple habits like walking, reading and slowing down became part of her recovery.

Together, Kat and Pardeep explore why so many people feel constantly busy and disconnected, how stress and trauma can show up physically in the body, and why the answers we are searching for are often already within us.

This episode is a reminder that healing does not always come from doing more. Sometimes it starts with slowing down, being honest with yourself, and paying attention to what your body has been trying to tell you all along.

• Why so many of us feel busy, overwhelmed and disconnected from ourselves
• How stress and trauma can show up in the body
• Why simple habits like walking, slowing down and being honest with yourself can be powerful tools for healing

The Hidden ROI of Generosity with Stoyan Yankov03 mars 202600:53:57

In this episode, Kat sits down with productivity expert, keynote speaker and community-builder Stoyan Yankov to unpack a surprisingly powerful truth: productivity isn’t about doing more - it’s about living intentionally.

They explore the “giver vs taker” dynamic in business and life, why scarcity thinking blocks opportunities, and how to protect your time without becoming transactional. Plus, Stoyan shares practical tools you can use immediately: the “MVP hat” for networking, building boundaries around advice requests, and his “Daily Menu” method for planning your time with outcomes (not vague to-do lists).

What you’ll learn

  • Why productivity = intention, not efficiency
  • The “givers / takers / matchers” idea and how to be a mindful giver (with boundaries)
  • How generosity and connection create long-term opportunities (without being “salesy”)
  • What’s really killing productivity right now: distraction, lack of discipline, and reactive days
  • Stoyan’s Daily Menu approach: goals → priorities → time blocks (and why elimination beats addition)
  • A simple boundary system for “Can I pick your brain?” requests (without guilt)
  • Why scrolling feels like rest… but often fuels anxiety and what to do instead
  • The power of identity-based habits (“I don’t do X” vs “I’m trying to do less X”)
  • The most underrated truth: the basics (sleep, movement, breathing) still run the show
  • Why 10 minutes is enough to create real momentum
  • “Be the Most Valuable Person in the room”

Human Doings → Human Beings with Emily Gill24 févr. 202600:42:48

In this episode, Kat sits down with Emily Gill (founder at Levra and recognised as one of the Top 50 Women in Tech) for a real conversation about modern busyness, perfectionism, and the habits that protect human performance.

They unpack why we’ve become human doings, how tiny “basic” habits (sleep, breathing, movement) create outsized impact, and why human skills like empathy, connection and communication are becoming even more valuable in the age of AI.

What you’ll hear in this episode

  • Why life feels like we’re being pulled in “50,000 directions” - and how to decide what deserves your energy today
  • The perfectionism trap: “Sometimes good enough is enough”
  • Kat’s take: we’ve shifted from human beings → human doings (and what constant consumption is doing to our brains)
  • The habit most people ignore: the wind-down routine (and why we treat kids better than ourselves at bedtime!)
  • Why we don’t do the basics… even when we know they work
  • How Kat creates change in teams: pattern disruption + questions that help people see it for themselves
  • The power of shared experience: real behaviour change happens when people realise they’re not alone
  • Emily’s insight: human connection is what “fills up our soul” — and why loneliness is a real performance problem
  • Why discomfort is part of growth (and why in-person connection is coming back)
  • Phones, attention, and the impact on family connection (the restaurant moment that hit hard)
  • Emily on AI: automation will rise - so human skills (empathy, conflict management, reading the room, asking better questions) become the differentiator
  • A brilliant reframe: kids wear an Elsa outfit with full confidence… what would change if adults did life with that energy?

Selling Homes, Not Houses19 janv. 202600:32:47

In this episode of The Positive Habits Podcast, Kat Thorne is joined by Polly and Jorge, founders of Moovafy, to explore a powerful question:

What if buying and selling a home was more human?

Polly and Jorge share their personal story of struggling to sell their London home despite it being “a beautiful house” and how that emotionally draining experience led them to uncover what’s missing in today’s property market: human connection.

What ultimately sold their home wasn’t a listing or a perfect set of photos - it was a neighbour who felt the energy of their family home.

That insight sparked the idea for Moovafy: a platform designed to sit alongside estate agents, not replace them, giving buyers and sellers a space to share their stories, experiences, fears, and hopes - and feel less alone in one of life’s biggest decisions.

In this episode, we discuss:
  • Why the property process feels so emotionally heavy for buyers and sellers
  • How disconnection and digital overload are impacting major life decisions
  • Why many sellers want their home to go to the right person - not just the highest bidder
  • The mental health impact of buying and selling property
  • Why estate agents still matter and how the process can evolve
  • The startup rollercoaster and the small grounding habits Polly and Jorge rely on

This conversation is about more than property - it’s about belonging, identity, and the places we call home.

🎧 If you are in the property market and/or struggling to buy or sell, this episode could really help.

Food Fear to Food Joy: Reimagining Pasta13 janv. 202600:32:37

In this episode of The Positive Habits Podcast, Kat is joined by Imogen, co-founder of The Northern Pasta Company, for an honest conversation about food, mental wellbeing, and performance.

Imogen shares how living on a small Croatian island during the pandemic transformed her relationship with food and inspired her to create a pasta company rooted in quality, joy, and connection.

Together, Kat and Imogen explore how modern food culture, ultra-processed foods, and diet myths impact our energy, mood, and ability to perform at work.

They discuss why food shouldn’t be rushed, feared, or guilt-filled and how small, positive habits around eating and cooking can lead to better focus, resilience, and wellbeing.

In this episode, we cover:

  • Food, mental health, and performance
  • Breaking free from diet culture and food shame
  • Why pasta (yes, pasta!) can be good for you
  • The power of simple food rituals and shared meals
  • Small habits that help you feel better every day

🎧 Tune in for a refreshing reminder that how we eat shapes how we live.

ABOUT THE GUEST

Imogen Royall is the co-founder of Northern Pasta Co. and the creative force behind its mission to reimagine pasta as something nourishing, joyful and deeply connected to land and people. Inspired by time spent living in Croatia and a growing fascination with British-grown heritage grains, Imogen set out to create pasta rooted in flavour, sustainability and care. Imogen’s relationship with food was shaped early on by complexity. She dropped out of university and spent much of her youth navigating complex PTSD and a difficult relationship with eating, where food became a source of fear and control rather than pleasure. Over time, that fear transformed into

fascination and then grew into love. From this experience came a belief that still underpins everything

she does today: if food can hold that much fear, it can also hold that much joy.

New Years Resolutions Don´t Work - Try this instead30 déc. 202500:11:26
New Year´s resolutions don´t work – but a transformational 2026 is still within your reach. It´s in your control to make it your most impactful year yet. All it takes is one small, positive habit change. Kat explains how to identify which area of your life to focus on and which small yet powerful habit change to make. KEY TAKEAWAYS New Year’s resolutions often fail because they’re too big, vague, and numerous. Real change comes from small, realistic shifts that fit into real life. Start the habit of writing down your thoughts (journaling). That is how you will identify what really matters to you and choose the right small habit change to make. The positive habit commitment that you stick to starts to have this incredible ripple effect. It will improve areas of your life that you can't even imagine. The way to actually achieve all of those goals is to start with one thing. Then, you can stack and you can gradually build on top of it. Specificity and a strong ‘why’ are what turn goals into lasting habits. It’s far more powerful to commit to being a healthy, energised person for life than to chase short‑term fixes like losing weight for a single event. Committing for 21 days builds evidence that you can trust yourself. That single daily habit change creates a ripple effect. It subtly improves areas of your life you didn’t even expect to change. Your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours are both the biggest barrier and the biggest key to your future. BEST MOMENTS “2026 can be the year that you dreamed of. It really can.” " You don't have to say you can do it for the whole year, just start off with doing it for 21 days." "Journaling - it's essentially just writing your thoughts down. That is how you get clarity, that is how you regain control, and that is how you can take your life to a whole new level." Choosing Positivity in a Negative World – Ollie Phillips23 déc. 202500:46:39
Today, Kat speaks with former England rugby player, adventurer, and eternal optimist Ollie Phillips. He shares how choosing optimism, surrounding himself with the right people, and pushing beyond his comfort zone have shaped his life. His journey includes a career in professional sport, corporate work, fundraising, climbing mountains, and now preparing to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic. Together, Kat and Ollie explore the realities of staying positive in a negative world, how to handle “mood hoovers,” the power of shared experiences and community, and the role small daily habits play in building resilience which also makes it easier to stay optimism. KEY TAKEAWAYS Choosing optimism is an active daily decision. You can’t control the world, but you can control how you show up in it. You are deeply influenced by the people around you. Positivity and negativity are both contagious, so it matters who you spend time with – and what energy you bring. “Mood hoovers” usually have a story you can’t see. Curiosity, listening and genuine care often create more change in them than judgement or avoidance. Growth lives on the other side of discomfort. Whether it’s extreme adventures or simple habits like cold water dips and movement, stretching your comfort zone helps you feel more alive and resilient. You don’t truly know if something serves you until you try it. Letting go of preconceived ideas and staying curious keeps your life bigger, richer and more fulfilling. Surrounding yourself with people who stretch you accelerates your progress. Being the least experienced in the room can feel uncomfortable, but it’s often where your greatest growth happens. BEST MOMENTS "Ensuring that you show up every single day ready to deliver the best version of yourself is really the only thing that you can control." "What are you doing to help that individual? Because I fundamentally believe that nobody wants to be grumpy. Some people might be more skilled at it than others, but nobody wants to be unhappy." “Make a lifelong commitment to just being curious to trying different things.” “If all you do is fear losing, you are restrictive, constrained, safe.” ABOUT THE GUEST https://www.linkedin.com/in/phillipsollie Good Vibes Good Life - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Good-Vibes-Life-Self-Love-Unlocking/dp/1788171829 ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Why It Was Never About the Alcohol with Luke Hemsley16 déc. 202500:50:59
Today, Kat is joined by Luke Hemsley, founder of alcohol-free wine specialist Wednesday’s Domaine. Their thoughtful conversation is about drinking non-alcoholic drinks, or drinking less, while still being able to feel fully part of any social moment. Luke shares why he built an alcohol-free wine brand even though he still drinks himself. They explore how our social lives became wired around alcohol, what really sits behind that first Friday-night drink feeling, and why so many of us are quietly asking how can I drink less but still enjoy myself. This episode is about reducing the noise without losing the joy and building resilient habits - one small decision at a time. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most people find that not drinking as much alcohol leaves them feeling better, clearer, healthier, and more themselves. Choosing not to drink doesn’t have to be a lifelong declaration; it can simply be a day‑by‑day decision. Just as with vegetarian or vegan choices, reducing alcohol consumption isn’t about being “holier than thou.” For many people it is a personal act of self‑care. So much of what we crave around alcohol isn’t the alcohol at all, but the ritual – the glass in our hand, the signal to relax, the sense of being part of the moment and part of the group. True social inclusion means you shouldn’t have to explain why you’re not drinking. Having good alcohol‑free drinks available is a part of the equation. It makes it easier for you to blend in, stay present, and still feel fully involved in the social occasion. Building something meaningful – whether it’s a business or a new lifestyle – comes down to small, consistent habits: showing up, doing the challenging thing first, and staying curious about how you want to feel in your life. BEST MOMENTS "I do drink alcohol, and that is a big part of the brand - we don't necessarily demonise booze or alcohol or force people to go one way or another." “If you have a non-alcoholic wine in your hand, you can just be a part of that moment, you don't have to face a load of questions about your decision not to drink alcohol." "There was a part of me who used to think that it wouldn't be fun if we weren't all drinking." The Habits That Saved My Life with Laura Rosinska09 déc. 202500:36:24
Today, Kat is joined by Laura Rosinska an experienced Event Exec and the founder of Backstage Wellness for a candid conversation about the habits that saved her life and the reality of thriving with neurodiversity. Laura talks about her journey with late-diagnosed ADHD and autism, confrontation with addiction, and why she founded Backstage to build a more inclusive industry. From cold dips to journaling, Laura shares the micro-habits that helped her reclaim her story, and why genuine connection can be transformative. This is an episode about embracing discomfort, finding your people, and turning your so-called flaws into superpowers. KEY TAKEAWAYS Lasting change starts small. Try stacking one simple habit onto another, like journaling for five minutes after your morning coffee, to gently build daily resilience. The most effective solutions to overwhelm and anxiety are often surprisingly easy to learn and use. There are lots of self-regulation techniques for you to try. The company of others, people who make you feel good is powerful. If you struggle with social events seek out inclusive events, especially those that cater for people who don't drink. Lean on community: honest conversations and group support, even a cold-water dip with friends, can transform tough days into sources of strength. Self-awareness is healing. Whether it’s a diagnosis or recognising a harmful habit you have isn’t about boxing yourself in. It's the opposite, it's your chance to change and move forward. BEST MOMENTS "When you have some self-awareness about the techniques you can use to really self-regulate and slow things down on a real, natural level it's absolutely life changing." "So much of this is just down to our thoughts. I think we are conditioned and taught that our thoughts are us, that they're true." "Doing the training, even breathing exercises, cold water therapy, journaling - just a few steps like that can turn lives around." Known For Being You - Jodie Goodchild02 déc. 202500:46:36
Kat speaks with Jodie Goodchild who helps people to become 'Known For' using personal branding on LinkedIn . She explains how being your authentic self and building strong habits helps you to do that and how to use the free version of LinkedIn to build your brand. Together, she and Kat explore what it truly means to be successful, the journey to self-discovery, and the importance of living authentically. You'll hear honest stories about breaking free from societal expectations, building a personal brand, finding your purpose, the value of supportive communities and, of course, the positive habits that help you to do all of that. KEY TAKEAWAYS  True success isn’t defined by or confined to conventional milestones e.g. getting married. True fulfilment comes from defining your own purpose and pursuing your “why”. Embracing your authentic self, even when it goes against social norms, leads to personal growth and self-acceptance.  Authenticity is at the heart of a strong personal brand. By sharing your real experiences, everyday moments, and core values, you naturally connect with others, inspire trust, and build a supportive community around you. When you are authentic, personal branding becomes far easier.  Having the courage to leave a comfortable but unfulfilling path can lead to a more meaningful life. Overcoming the urge to please others is essential for personal integrity, self-care and growth. Regular journaling helps to clarify your thoughts and process your feelings. It empowers you to take charge of your mindset and personal narrative. Facing setbacks with resilience and positivity transforms adversity into valuable lessons and sources of strength. BEST MOMENTS "I don't think success necessarily has anything to do with the money you've got in the bank, because I know people that have got a lot of money, but they are miserable.” "You have to be who you feel like on the inside and not give a whatever about what anyone else thinks ... it sucks the life out of you if you try and pretend to be somebody that you're not.” "We have all of the answers within ourselves." “You get one life ..it actually doesn´t matter what anyone else thinks.” ABOUT THE GUEST Jodie - LinkedIn ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Strong Habits Start Young25 nov. 202500:39:16
In this episode, Kat sits down with Simon and his 11-year-old son Charlie for a conversation about what really happens when you swap screen time for summit climbs and running challenges. From facing biting winds on Ben Nevis to pushing through rainy conditions, Charlie opens up about overcoming doubt, building resilience, and finding strength through physical challenges.  Together, Simon and Charlie reveal that embracing challenges isn’t just about building physical endurance—it’s also about shaping who you are and will become. How it builds the kind of grit life demands and strengthens family bonds. KEY TAKEAWAYS  Getting outside and taking on physical challenges with your children really opens up the channels of communication between parent and child. Being motivated to help his son to meet and enjoy physical challenges, meant that Simon once again became fit enough to climb mountains – a pastime he thought was no longer possible for him to enjoy. Long runs, mountain climbing, and training have equipped Charlie with more than physical endurance. They’ve given him a toolkit for staying focused and being ready to weather the challenges life will throw up. When the rain’s pouring or motivation is running low, Charlie and Simon still put on their shoes and get out there. Remaining consistent no matter what, builds resilience and improves your ability to fully commit to something both now and in the future. Just like muscles, mental toughness gets weaker if you stop using it. Resilience isn’t something you build once and keep forever; it’s forged and maintained by regularly putting yourself in demanding situations, so your mindset stays as strong as your body. BEST MOMENTS “You should be putting yourself in a place of discomfort regularly so you then have that confidence that you can tap into something when you need it.” “In a way, running or the sea is the vehicle for having this natural conversation, which makes it not about the conversation. It takes the pressure off.” “Just try always, try your hardest.” “Whenever you're facing something that seems impossible, I can almost guarantee it will always be possible, if you just try and try until the very end.”  ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting, working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. The Hidden Energy Leaks in Your Life with Hannah Baldwin18 nov. 202500:45:46
In this powerful episode, Kat sits down with Hannah Baldwin - a modern-day energy healer and organisational and positive psychologist whose work helps people flourish and thrive. Together, they explore The Hidden Energy Leaks in Your Life - the habits, behaviours, and situations that quietly drain your mental, emotional, and physical capacity. This is an inspiring, practical conversation designed to help you understand where your energy is going and what new habits will help restore and protect it. You’ll hear real-world examples, simple daily practices, and grounded mindset shifts to help you feel more energised, balanced and in control. Energy is your most important performance resource. You can have all the time in the world, but without energy, nothing moves. Energy leaks show up as perfectionism, people-pleasing, digital distractions, over-giving, and constant overstimulation. Awareness is the first step: notice who and what leaves you feeling drained, and make conscious adjustments. Setting healthy boundaries is essential: saying no, slowing down, and choosing what’s right for you. Meditation is a powerful life skill that helps you restore and regulate your energy. You don’t need to live life at 100mph - slowing down creates more clarity, presence, and fulfilment. Even 10 minutes a day of intentional self-care can change how you show up in the world. BEST MOMENTS “You can have all the time in the world, but if you don’t have any energy, then there’s no point… managing our energy leads to more time.” “If you’re constantly living life like that, you’re leaking energy all the time - things like perfectionism, people-pleasing, shape-shifting.” ABOUT THE GUEST AND EPISODE RESOURCES Hannah is an Organisational & Positive Psychologist and Energy Healer. Quit or Commit? The Founder’s Dilemma with Stephanie Melodia11 nov. 202500:44:55
Kat speaks with serial entrepreneur, public speaker, mentor and podcaster Stephanie Melodia. In this candid discussion, they discuss the mounting pressures business owners face, especially those in the UK, and how to tackle them. Including when to commit, when to pivot, and when to gracefully quit rather than simply delaying the inevitable. Stephanie shares the critical decision-making strategies used by top founders to eliminate anxiety and indecisiveness, iterate and stay ahead of the curve. Alongside the other positive habits that are behind most people´s success. KEY TAKEAWAYS Resilience and adaptability are essential qualities for entrepreneurs. They don´t just keep you going through tough times, they also help you to know when to persevere and when it’s time to embrace change. The decision to pivot, scale back, or even close a business is not a failure; it can be a strategic and courageous act that opens the door to new opportunities and personal growth. Positive habits, e.g. Daily movement, prioritising sleep, and practicing gratitude are the foundation for building and maintaining energy, clarity, and well-being. These positive habits empower you to meet your toughest challenges. Stop viewing saying no as a negative thing to do. Remember, when you say no, you are creating space to say yes to one of any number of other opportunities. Learn to make decisions quickly and move on. Dithering about all of those small things just zaps your energy. Trust yourself. BEST MOMENTS "I am allergic to inertia. I need movement. I need speed. I need scale. I need to feel like things are moving." "We keep emphasising the importance of pivots, of iterating." "You need the resilience, and you need to keep going, but you need to know the difference between, are you flogging a dead horse, or is there something here?" ABOUT THE GUEST Stephanie is a former marketing consultancy CEO turned founder coach, growth strategist, MBA advisor, and host of the UK's Top 20 Business Show. From Overwhelmed to Marathon Runner: Nathan’s Habit Journey04 nov. 202500:45:16
Today, Kat speaks with Nathan, a chemistry teacher from York, about his inspiring journey from unhealthy habits and self-doubt to running marathons and transforming his life through the power of routine. Nathan shares how small, consistent changes in diet, exercise, and mindset helped him overcome barriers, improve his well-being, and inspire those around him. During the episode, he shares dozens of practical tips on kick-starting your transformation, staying motivated, understanding what foods are truly healthy and incorporating them into your diet. KEY TAKEAWAYS Try getting up early. For, Nathan, that one change made developing the positive habits he needed to complete his transformation, far easier. Learn about nutrition. Acquiring that knowledge, a little bit each day, doesn´t take long. You soon learn to recognise junk food and hidden calories so you can avoid eating them. Learn to cook and teach your kids too. When you do, you regain full awareness and control of what is going into your body. Meal prepping makes it much easier to eat healthily. At first cooking for a couple of hours one day a week will feel hard. But it actually saves you time, reduces stress, your food bills and the temptation to eat junk. Running for both Kat and Nathan has been life changing and provides the exercise they need. Yet, both of them hated running. Until, that is, they tried a different approach that made it easy. That approach is shared during the episode. BEST MOMENTS "He dreaded ever seeing anybody that he knew, because he felt so uncomfortable in his skin." “It's not difficult to be in a calorie deficit, but it's very easy not to be. “ "It comes down to two things - what you put in your body and how much you move.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://boldbeanco.com Previous episodes mentioned in this episode – https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-positive-habits-podcast/id1754112459 https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/brutal-honesty-you-need-breaking-free-with-jay-alderton/id1754112459 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Miracle-Morning-Updated-Expanded-Transform-ebook/dp/B0CJ6N7CK9 ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. The 10 Minute Habit That Changed Everything for Kat28 oct. 202500:11:25
Kat is frequently asked about her own habits. Today, she talks about one that literally transformed her life, going for a short run. Like most of us, as a child, Kat could think of nothing worse than cross country running, a school activity that was more “punishment than joy.” Kat shares what changed her mind and how she discovered that running was an effective way to energise herself, improve focus, strengthen her mind and build resilience. KEY TAKEAWAYS Exercise does far more than get you physically fit. It energises you, provides you with a mental reset and builds resilience. Enabling you to show up as your best self for everyone and everything in your life. You don´t have to run for long to enjoy powerful results. Kat just runs for 10 minutes a day. It starts a positive ripple effect. Exercise does not have to be difficult. Any movement is beneficial, dancing, walking, even deep breathing. BEST MOMENTS "Exercise isn't about your body. Exercise is about your mind, about energising yourself, about building resilience, about wearing a cape that makes you feel like you can take on anything in life." "I don't do any exercise now, for my physical appearance, I do it all for how I feel and how it helps me perform." "Movement makes you feel alive – any kind of movement." “Starting in your day in a different way could change the way that day goes.” ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Stop Saying No, Start Saying Yes20 oct. 202500:10:29
Are you so busy that you are constantly saying no to doing those activities that keep you healthy, energised and motivated? In this episode, Kat uncovers the hidden benefits of saying yes to activities that boost your well-being. She demonstrates how investing time in yourself actually results in you feeling less stretched and more fulfilled. Kat shares a simple method you can use to change your nos to yeses. KEY TAKEAWAYS Life is way too short to not take opportunities, especially to do more of the things that energise and inspire us. Saying yes to activities that energise you restores your focus and clarity, tops up your joy, boosts creativity and motivates you. Prioritise your well-being. Identify what truly uplifts you, schedule time for it and do it even when you get incredibly busy. This week, commit to do one of the things you have been saying no to for too long. BEST MOMENTS "Investing in yourself, investing your time in whatever it is, is actually the key to speeding up." "Positive energy creates mental clarity, which creates the best decisions, which increases everything—time, energy, and so on." “When we're busy, our instinct is to contract and do less, we isolate and avoid saying yes to things. But actually we thrive on new things, on movement, on connection.” “Life is way too short to not take opportunities and to not do more things that are actually energising us.” EPISODE RESOURCES Business Coach – Chris James - https://www.chris-james.co ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Reclaim Your Energy: Simple Habits to Beat the Overwhelm13 oct. 202500:11:40
Do you ever feel like you’re constantly busy but never truly in control of your time? In this episode, Kat dives into why so many of us feel overwhelmed in today’s fast-paced, always-on world. From the endless stream of information to the pressure of putting everyone else’s needs before our own, she explores what’s really driving that sense of exhaustion and disconnection. You’ll discover how taking time for reflection, keeping a simple diary of your daily activities, and focusing on what truly energises you can help you reclaim your time and restore balance. Whether you’re feeling stretched too thin or simply craving more calm and clarity, this episode will inspire you to slow down, prioritise yourself, and build a life that feels more fulfilling - one positive habit at a time. KEY TAKEAWAYS Many people report feeling overwhelmingly busy, prompting a reflection on whether this busyness is genuine or a result of overcommitting and not prioritising effectively. The constant consumption of information throughout the day contributes to feelings of busyness and overwhelm, leaving little time for rest and reflection. It's essential to identify daily priorities and focus on completing the most important tasks first, rather than getting caught up in others' demands. Learning to say no to commitments that do not serve personal well-being is crucial. Overcommitting can lead to neglecting self-care, which ultimately affects everyone around us. Keeping a diary of daily activities and habits can help individuals recognise how they spend their time and identify areas that contribute to feelings of busyness, allowing for more intentional living. BEST MOMENTS "We are in a productivity crisis, and we're in the middle of a global mental health pandemic." "When we neglect ourselves, everyone pays the price. It has a ripple effect on our work, our families, and our health." "If you're saying I haven't got time, just use this podcast episode as an opportunity to go, hang on a minute, why do I feel busy all the time?" "Just write down everything you eat, and write down all the things you do in terms of movement." ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Despite appearing 'successful' on the outside, she paid a heavy ‘life’ price. In 2016, her whole world collapsed. The reason? Beyond the Jab: 6 Stone Lighter & Stronger with Ben Chudley06 oct. 202500:40:41
Are you struggling to break free from old habits and achieve lasting weight loss and health? In this episode, Kat sits down with Ben Chudley to discuss how after a lifetime of weight battles he and his wife lost over 6 stone each and, today, lead a healthier, happier life. You will discover how changing your mindset, embracing structured routines, and prioritising habits like meal planning, strength training, and quality sleep will transform not just your body, but your entire outlook on life. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for that final push, this conversation will motivate you to believe that real, sustainable change is possible - one positive habit at a time. KEY TAKEAWAYS Lasting weight loss comes from changing your mindset and building sustainable habits. Ben and his wife followed structured meal plans, hired a personal trainer and prioritised sleep while using the weight loss jab. The weight loss jab is a tool. It breaks the cycle of constantly thinking about food, but it does not replace, your commitment to positive routines. Seeking out and investing in the right tools makes things much, much easier and heightens your chances of success. Ben combined the weight loss jab with a structured meal plan and hired a personal trainer. Eating healthily and targeted exercise provides a framework for future healthy living as well as supporting weight loss. If you are not honest with yourself about what you are doing you will never identify the underlying issues that are holding you back, address them and change your bad habits. Keeping a food diary is a good way to help you to see where you are going wrong and improve your diet for good. BEST MOMENTS "You can have a rose-tinted view of what you’re doing, whether that’s exercise, nutrition, sleep or your relationship. Then there’s the facts, the cold, hard facts, which you can’t escape from." "Mindset is a lot of it." "I’ve noticed big positive changes around the way I prioritise sleep now." ABOUT THE GUEST Ben Chudley is the Director for Nightingales Golden Care that provides care in people's own homes to the elderly and disabled. I am a father of 2 boys, and have been married for almost 10 years. Attention IS The New Currency29 sept. 202500:46:55
Kat speaks with Caitlin, a productivity coach whose journey began with a life-altering health challenge at 18. Together, they explore how Caitlin turned adversity into a passion for sustainable productivity, meaningful work, and well-being. She shares practical strategies for building positive habits, navigating the modern world of AI and reclaiming focus in our distracted world. Caitlin provides a powerful reminder that small changes, self-awareness, and a growth mindset really can transform both your work and life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sustainable productivity balances achievement with well-being. Caitlin has a sight issue that gets worse with stress, anxiety and tiredness. Being productive helps Caitlin to stay balanced and well. AI tools can increase output but use them consciously and consider their broader effects. For example, using it to write everything for you can erode your writing skills and ability to communicate effectively. Don´t fall into the busyness trap. True productivity is about doing what matters most, not just filling time. Recognise that it’s okay to leave some tasks unfinished. Focus on what’s truly important and let go of perfectionism. Systemic and organisational issues exist but there is always things within your control that you can change. Small changes e.g. Scheduling focused work in the mornings and meetings in the afternoons can have a big impact on productivity and well-being. BEST MOMENTS "It isn't enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about?" "Habits are a lifelong commitment to being the best version of myself." "Life is an unending series of complications. We don't know what's going to happen, but we know something is coming. There's no point getting stressed about the fact it's coming." ABOUT THE GUEST Caitlin Rozario is on a mission to make work better. Founder and facilitator – interlude, a career development company that focuses on corporate workshops to build sustainable productivity As the award-winning founder of interlude, Caitlin designs and delivers learning experiences to promote healthier, more sustainable versions of productivity, helping people to do remarkable things without the personal price tags of chronic stress, burnout and overwhelm. Inspired by her own experience overcoming a life-changing health challenge, Caitlin’s workshops have supported thousands of ambitious people and teams – from companies like Visa to global communities like Sophia Amoruso’s Business Class – to develop high performance that’s built to last. Beyond Care: How Habits Shape Futures22 sept. 202500:42:15
Kat speaks with Gareth Webb, Managing Director of Fairways, an award-winning children's services charity based in the south of England and Wales. They discuss the difference fostering makes to the lives of the children, their foster families and society as a whole. Through real stories, Gareth demonstrates how positive habits, trauma-informed care, businesses and community support can come together to transform the lives of everyone involved. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fostering is facing a national crisis. The UK needs more people to step up and make a difference for vulnerable children. Anyone can potentially foster or help in other ways. Whether you work full-time, run a business, or just want to help, there’s a role for you in supporting young people in care. Trauma-informed care and consistent, reliable support are life-changing for children and care leavers. Community and business involvement can open doors, provide opportunities, and help break the cycle for those leaving care. Real connection, empathy, and being present are the most powerful ways we can support each other and create lasting change. BEST MOMENTS "Look after yourself, then you’re able to look after the people around you a lot better as well." "For us it's about creating a safe environment and a safety net for these young people. That means stability, reliability, predictability, structure, routine and being a stable role model in their life." "Children in care are still children and actually, we want to break that cycle. They didn’t ask for the life start they were given." Kindness: The Currency of Life and Business15 sept. 202500:32:53
Kat speaks with Chuks Uwaechia, the visionary founder of Kent Housing and a passionate philanthropist who is a hands-on supporter of Gillingham Street Angels. A charity that works to ensure that the people of Medway have access to good food, clothes and education. He and Kat discuss how positive lifestyle habits, being empathetic and kind is a powerful combination that attracts the people you need to you and helps to transform society and the lives of those around you. KEY TAKEAWAYS Taking care of yourself, your employees and family helps you and everyone around you. For example, a well-rested team delivers better results. Helping your community demonstrates to others that they can trust you. That is good for everyone including your business. Effective leadership is about inspiring and supporting others. Often, your positive habits become the positive habits of your family, workers and friends. But remember that the same is true for your negative habits. Showing people kindness and empathy empowers them. As well as helping them practically, it demonstrates to them that someone cares about them and that they matter. Often that empowerment translates into them finding the strength to take more steps to help themselves and them helping others too. For Chuk, taking regular exercise has turned out to be his most impactful personal habit. BEST MOMENTS "In everything that you do, you need to have that positive outlook. Your aura obviously attracts. When you have that enthusiasm, you attract people." "Kindness is the new currency, when you show kindness you empower people." "People who look after themselves perform better in all areas, both at work and at home." ABOUT THE GUEST Chuks Uwaechia is the founder of Kent Housing and a very active member of his local community as a Trustee of the Gillingham Street Angels, an organisation that feeds over 13,064 people monthly in the local area.  His favourite football team is Spurs and his favourite cities, Paris, Lagos and Dubai. My Body Sent Me an Email, But I Never Opened It08 sept. 202500:35:54
Today, Kat speaks with the Head of People at Bosch Digital,  Marina Takács for an honest conversation about perfectionism and the pressure that comes from always being the “the strong one”. Marina shares how she burnt out despite being there to stop others from doing exactly that and how she recovered and came back even stronger. Whether you’re leading a team, managing a demanding role, or simply juggling life’s endless demands, this episode offers practical strategies to help you develop positive habits. Including setting boundaries, protecting your mornings, being self-disciplined, and protecting your energy. Habits that enable you to thrive in both your personal and work life — without burning out. KEY TAKEAWAYS ·  Even strong leaders burn out. Marina believed she could juggle everything — until her body “sent her emails” telling her otherwise, which she ignored. ·  Being busy can feel meaningful, but often it´s just stress in disguise. ·  Recovery starts with small, uncomfortable changes, for example learning to say no without guilt or scheduling and protecting your down time. ·  Strength includes pausing: Real leadership models recovery and boundaries, not just absorbing stress. ·  Regularly check in with yourself. Pausing briefly to honestly reflect on your energy, mood, and reactions will help you spot early warning signs of problems and head them off. ·  Discipline and consistency are what keeps habits alive, especially when life gets busy. If you need to exercise every day, prioritise it and do it even on your busiest day.   BEST MOMENTS   “My body sent me an email — but I never opened it.”   “I think was confusing adrenaline with purpose.”   “I  just stopped glorifying being always on.”   “Real strength is knowing when to pause.”   “Consistency beats intensity every time — especially on Mondays.”   “If I burn out, I’m not just hurting myself  obviously I'm hurting my family, my loved ones and I’m setting the wrong tone for my team.”   ABOUT THE GUEST Marina is Head of People, Organiaation and Culture. Kat speaks with Mark and Chloe Legg, a dynamic couple with 4 children who manage 25 businesses - all while prioritising personal growth and self-care. Discover how they transformed their lives through intentional habits, balanced family and business, and found creative ways to spend quality time together. Their story is a testament to the power of mindset, partnership, and making self-improvement a non-negotiable part of daily life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Prepare for the next day the night before and establish a morning routine that enables you to start your day calmly, without the need to rush. This sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. Don´t follow trends. Instead, identify what works for you and as your life changes, adjust your healthy routines to suit. Commit to trying a new habit for 30 days to see if it works for you. Mindfulness helps you to become more present and get more out of activities like spending time with loved ones. The habit that made mornings brighter for a mum and son25 août 202500:11:34
Today's solo episode is a story. It's the story of a very powerful positive habit change - a habit change that seemed so tiny that it was hard to imagine that it's going to have any impact at all. It took a few minutes a day and had a hugely positive impact on the life of a mum and her 11-year-old autistic son.  This very short, but powerful episode is exactly what you need to inspire you to come up with and make that one tiny positive habit change that has the potential to transform your day… every day. KEY TAKEAWAYS  One small change that takes literally minutes of your day, really can have a huge positive impact on you and your life and everyone around you. Your making a positive habit change that helps someone you care for also boosts your own well-being and creates a happier and easier life for both of you. Habits that change how you start your day has a ripple effect, it improves how the rest of your day goes. BEST MOMENTS "Focus on one very small, realistic change that you can make. Even if that's just for a few minutes a day." "They're now starting the day in a really energetic, positive, excitable way, and it doesn't matter what's going on at school or work." "I can't even believe sometimes the power of one small positive habit change. Then, I hear stories like this, and I think this is why I'm doing what I'm doing. Triplets, Career & Resilience with BBC's, Sonja Liwani-Ansari18 août 202500:45:15
Kat speaks with Sonja Liwani-Ansari, mother of triplets and Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs Manager at the BBC. She and Kat discuss juggling motherhood and work. Before joining the BBC, where she found an understanding and supportive environment, she was bullied in the workplace for being a mother. Sonja shares what this situation taught her and how it and other experiences shaped her life and what she is planning to do in the future. KEY TAKEAWAYS At a previous job, Sonja was bullied, for sometimes having to leave early to take care of her children. Other mothers were targeted in the same way. Sonja´s line manager at the BBC was supportive. For her, Sonja sometimes having to start late or finish early to look after her children was not a problem. She knew that Sonja would make up the time and still get her work done to a high standard. There is still a disconnect in the workplace between those who have family members to care for and those that do not. How you behave matters. Don´t wish bad on people, even those who treat you badly. Try to be empathetic. Everything that happens in life happens for a reason, including the things that are hard to deal with. It all teaches you something. Teaching our youngsters to speak up when they see inequality is important. When enough people truly believe everyone should be rewarded for their hard work equally, and step up to make it happen, society automatically becomes fairer. BEST MOMENTS "In my previous job, I was actually bullied for having children and having to leave earlier to pick them up and not because I was working less - I was switching on the laptop when I got home." 'I didn't want her to win at pushing me out of the organisation, which is why I stayed. I may have won in one way, but I lost in another way – it scarred me." "I do think it's important when people do things to us to try to understand why did they behave like that? Because it's often much more complex than the actual act." "Wouldn't it be so great if men and women could be allies and help each other with everything, and it would make everything so much easier." ABOUT THE GUEST Sonia is BBC Commercial Rights and Business Affairs Manager and mother of 17 year old triplets, working full time while being the main carer.
