American Democracy is not promised to us and, with all the forces working against it, saving it will take a level of work most people aren’t ready for. The Politics Girl Podcast is here to give people a reason to care and a reason to fight. Our goal is to inspire. To instill in people a true understanding of what this country COULD be, if the right people were fighting for it, and what it WILL be if they don’t. It’s a political podcast yes, but more than that, it’s a podcast about America’s potential, where one passionate, and slightly mouthy, immigrant attempts to motivate the country to become what it promised to be but, so far, has yet to become. You’ll leave more knowledgeable, more engaged, and more sure that you, personally, can make a difference to the future of American democracy. Everyone’s got a little time for that right? Subscribe for new episodes every Tuesday. We’re in a fight for our country. We sure as hell better know what we’re fighting for. xo

America: Built on Work - A Conversation Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su

mardi 3 septembre 2024Durée 44:57

Happy Labor Day!!! Department of Labor’s Acting Secretary Julie Su reminds us that the Biden Administration has been focused on building what they call the “high road to the American dream”. That looking out for the American worker is not just about having enough work, it’s about those workers being paid properly, treated with respect, and at the end of the day, giving our citizens what President Biden calls “a little breathing room” to live our lives. How do we “pursue happiness” without that? On this Labor Day we dig into the Department of Labor and all the programs and agencies ready and willing to help the American people that most of us don’t even know about, and the importance of having a government that not only respects our workers but will fight for them. Joyful Warriors: A Conversation with Heather Cox Richardson

mardi 27 août 2024Durée 01:09:35

Coming right off the Democratic Convention, brilliant historian and writer Heather Cox Richardson gives her insights on where we are with the two parties and the upcoming election. She reminds us that democracy is not a given, and though we have to fight for it, we should find joy in that fight. That the Republicans are used to controlling the narrative, and holding the mantle of patriotic American, but the convention showed the world they aren’t the only ones who have the right to that title. The winds have shifted…what comes next is up to us. As always, if you find worth in what we do, please consider SUBSCRIBING to PoliticsGirl Premium. Compete in EVERY Race: Two Under-the-Radar WINNABLE Senate races Florida & North Dakota

mardi 25 juin 2024Durée 52:48

To keep democracy’s head above water in 2024 the Democrats need what’s called a trifecta - meaning the Presidency, the House and the Senate - and keeping the senate is going to be a tough slog because Democrats have what’s called a “bad map”. So today, instead of talking about the must win swing races we hear about all the time, we’re going to discuss two Senate races that almost no-one is paying attention to. Two Senate races practically no-one is investing in, because it’s assumed they’ve already been won by Republicans when the truth is they haven’t. American Democrats often function in this weird defeatist culture where we keep fighting over the same 6 states and seeding other states to Republicans with the assumption they’re lost and no Democrat can ever win there. It’s not fair to the people who have different opinions in those states. It’s not fair to the people who lose their rights thanks to Republican policies, and it’s not democratic. People should have a candidate to vote for, and that candidate should have the opportunity to win. So today’s episode includes two women, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (or DMP) from Florida and Katrina Christiansen from North Dakota. We’re going to hear their stories and remind ourselves that no state should be written off. That everybody deserves a chance to be represented in America and with so much on the line, we need to support every Democrat running. The party might not be focusing on these two races, but We the People, should be. As always, if you find worth in what we do, please consider SUBSCRIBING to PoliticsGirl Premium. Candidate Conversations with Lt. Col. Brian Bengs, Democratic candidate for Senator for South Dakota

vendredi 14 octobre 2022Durée 33:11

Today’s our first extra pod leading up to the midterms and I’m thrilled to have it be with Senatorial candidate for South Dakota Brian Bengs. And you might think, a Democrat in South Dakota? Whaaaat? But, yes, we have to stop ceding rural territories and states to Republicans. The heartland used to be a stronghold for the Democrats, but there’s been a growing, and perhaps self fulfilling, belief that the Democratic Party can’t compete in rural America, and that’s just not true. South Dakota might be a red state, but Brian, JAG lawyer, professor and career veteran of both the US Navy & the Air Force is truly resonating with the people of his state. Polling and surveys shows that when voters are presented with head to head profiles between Bengs & current Senator John Thune, Bengs wins every time. We just need to give him the support to make sure people see him as a real contender.    Guest social: https://bengsforsenate.com Twitter: @BrianBengs   Please RATE and SUBSCRIBE so we can grow the show, open the dialogue, and inspire change moving forward!   All show links here!: https://linktr.ee/politicsgirl

What’s at Stake November 8th - PG:CC with NARAL: Pro-Choice America’s Mini Timmaraju

mardi 11 octobre 2022Durée 52:55

Today’s podcast is a candid conversation with Mini Timmaraju, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, here to remind us what is at stake in the midterm elections, not just for reproductive freedoms and rights of women in this country, but the very foundation of freedom and democracy itself. Mini joined NARAL having worked for the Biden-Harris Administration, served as the National Women’s Vote Director for the Hillary Clinton campaign, and played many essential roles at Planned Parenthood. Mini has over 20 years experience leading all levels of political campaigns and advocacy efforts around reproductive rights, gender and racial justice so she knows what’s on the line on November 8th. Plus, she’s flippin’ marvelous. You’ll just love her and feel very relieved she’s in charge of keeping our representatives accountable in congress. It literally doesn’t matter if you’ve never voted before, you have to now. We have to say loud and clear that this has all gone too far, and we have to say it by the millions at the ballot box. Candidate Conversations with Brad Pfaff (WI-03) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03)

mardi 4 octobre 2022Durée 01:02:33

Today’s episode is part of the Candidate Conversation series leading up to the midterms, where we talk to candidates from across the country whose victories are absolutely essential to the success of American democracy. Today’s podcast will be with 2 Democratic candidates running for the 3rd districts of their states. Brad Pfaff from Wisconsin and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez from Washington. Both candidates have deep ties to their rural communities and are running against MAGA ringers brought into their districts, not to represent the people, but to represent the worst of Republican extremism. These two congressional races are must wins. Brad to keep a seat blue, and Marie to flip one. This podcast is not only worth your time, but these candidates are worth your support. As always this is not just an episode about two candidates, but about the bigger idea of democracy and what it represents. We’re in a battle for the soul of the nation and these soldiers need our help.    Guest social: https://bradpfaff.com/ Twitter: @pfaff4congress   https://marieforcongress.com/ Twitter: @MGPforCongress   Please RATE and SUBSCRIBE so we can grow the show, open the dialogue, and inspire change moving forward!   All show links here!: https://linktr.ee/politicsgirl Thank you to today’s sponsors! www.bombas.com/politicsgirl Code: PoliticsGirl at checkout www.uncommongoods.com/politicsgirl  www.athleticgreens.com/politicsgirl

The Good Karen PG:CC with LA Mayoral Candidate Congresswoman Karen Bass

mardi 27 septembre 2022Durée 51:18

Today’s podcast is a conversation with Karen Bass, Congresswoman for California’s 37th district, former California assemblywoman, and current candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles. And you might think, “Ok I don’t live in Los Angeles so why should I care?” You should care because Los Angeles is the second biggest city in the US, and California is the state with the largest population. So, the things that happen here, end up being the beta test for things that happen across the country. What Karen Bassimplements in Los Angeles, for homelessness or crime, if successful, will no doubt find their way to other cities and states across the nation, and could be the bellwether for federal legislation. You should also care because Karen is running against a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The newest way Republicans are trying to undermine the electorate is to trick them into voting for someone who presents themselves as one thing but is actually another. Rick Caruso is that candidate, a lifelong Republican billionaire who switched his party affiliation to Democrat just 3 weeks before declaring his candidacy for mayor. He’s already spent $60 million dollars of his own money trying to buy his way into the job. This is something as an electorate we should not only be aware of, but watch out for in other places. Our democracy should not be for sale and we should be putting people in positions of power who want to serve the people not enrich themselves.   Guest social: https://karenbass.com Twitter: @KarenBassLA Twitter: @RepKarenBass Insta: karenbassla   Please RATE and SUBSCRIBE so we can grow the show, open the dialogue, and inspire change moving forward!   All show links here!: https://linktr.ee/politicsgirl   Don’t forget to send questions via email, video or audio for the ASK PG Episode to: ask@politicsgirl.com   Thank you to today’s sponsor! www.athleticgreens.com/politicsgirl www.splendidspoon.com/politicsgirl

We went to the White House!! PG:CC with Brett & Jordy Meiselas

mardi 20 septembre 2022Durée 54:30

For a political nerd like me being invited to the White House is like going to the Super Bowl. I was thrilled to be there, but even more excited to see the genuine passion the Biden Administration has for the country and its people. This is why I do what I do. To help people who care about the country, and to make sure that list of people grows every day. Today’s pod is a Candid Conversation with two of the three founders of the Meidas Media Network, Brett & Jordy Meiselas, who were also at the White House this week to celebrate and discuss the successes of the Inflation Reduction Act with other social media influencers. This was an impressive group of people listening to an impressive group of people and if we take anything away from this experience, it’s that the future of media is going to look quite different than the past, this Administration is the real deal, and it’s essential we keep them, and their party, in power.    Guest social: www.meidastouch.com Twitter: @MeidasTouch Insta: MeidasTouch Brett Meiselas:  Twitter: @BMeiselas   Jordy Meiselas:  Twitter: @meidasjordy   Please RATE and SUBSCRIBE so we can grow the show, open the dialogue, and inspire change moving forward!   All show links here!: https://linktr.ee/politicsgirl   Thank you to today’s sponsors! www.aspiration.com/politicsgirldebit www.clickup.com Code: PoliticsGirl

Candidate Conversations with Christy Smith (CA-27) and Dr. Annie Andrews (SC-1)

mardi 13 septembre 2022Durée 48:03

We are starting a new series leading up to the midterms called Candidate Conversations, where we chat with candidates from across the country to highlight races and people that you might not be as familiar with, but whose victories are essential and need your support. Today’s podcast will be split into individual conversations with 2 amazing Democratic congressional candidates, Christy Smith from California’s 27th congressional district, and Dr. Annie Andrews from South Carolina’s 1st. Both women are running in flippable districts where there is currently a Republican incumbent, and with the right support both candidates can, and will, turn these seats blue. Absolutely worth the listen and definitely worth the support. We talk about way more than just their districts. It’s a conversation about democracy, human rights and what it means to be an American representative.    Guest social: https://www.christyforcongress.org Twitter: @ChristySmithCA https://www.drannieandrews.com Twitter:@AnnieAndrewsMD   Please RATE and SUBSCRIBE so we can grow the show, open the dialogue, and inspire change moving forward!  All show links here!: https://linktr.ee/politicsgirl   Thank you to today’s sponsors! www.framebridge.com Promo code: PoliticsGirl https://wondery.com American Scandal: Snowden

Reproductive Freedom - PG:CC with Planned Parenthood’s Alexis McGill Johnson

mardi 6 septembre 2022Durée 52:32

Today’s podcast is a candid conversation with Alexis McGill Johnson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood. We are living at volatile time in American history. One entire party is hellbent on taking us backward into the worst parts of our country’s past filled with racism, homophobia, inequality and the subjugation of women. Since the reversal of Roe v. Wade, every day is a new affront to the value of women and those who require reproductive rights in our society. Every day comes with a fresh new story of archaic, backward laws and the trauma of the real people who have to live under these laws. Being female in America has never been easy, but with THIS Republican Party and THIS supreme court our lives, and the lives of those who can give birth, have become the newest cannon fodder in the culture wars.   Guest social: https://www.plannedparenthood.org https://www.plannedparenthoodaction.org Twitter: @alexismcgill Twitter: @PPFA Twitter: @PPact Insta: plannedparenthood Link Tree: https://linktr.ee/PlannedParenthood   Please RATE and SUBSCRIBE so we can grow the show, open the dialogue, and inspire change moving forward!   All show links here!: https://linktr.ee/politicsgirl   Don’t forget to send questions via email, video or audio for the ASK PG Episode to: ask@politicsgirl.com   Thank you to today’s sponsor!  www.thrivecausemetics.com/politicsgirl www.thirdlove.com/politicsgirl www.everlywell.com/politicsgirl www.athleticgreens.com/politicsgirl
