Avoiding the Social Media Game! Photography as a Means to Achieving Happiness with @lyndonswildphotos

Épisode 222

lundi 17 juin 2024Durée 01:07:06

Lyndon Norman (@lyndonswildphotos) is a wildlife and nature photographer from Alberta, Canada. She has a genuine passion for ethical wildlife and nature photography, and prioritizes unique perspectives and the safety of animals.

Social media, we all know, is a mess. Anxiety, harmful comparison, grinding until we burnout, feeling like we need to feed the machine. Sometimes we may find ourselves wondering why we started our photography journey in the first place. Thankfully in this episode with Lyndon, we talk about practicing photography simply in the pursuit of happiness rather than achievement. We also describe ways to fulfill our need to create art without worrying about content metrics, insights, and performance constantly.

Expect to learn how to get back to your "why" for photography, how to realize that "more" isn't always better than "enough", why you shouldn't be glued to your social media insights, and how to ensure you're making photos that you love and not what just feeds the algorithm.

The Art of “No”, Revenge, & Salvaging Professional Relationships

Épisode 132

vendredi 4 novembre 2022Durée 01:13:13

No guest in today's episode. Aaron and I sit down to talk about being authentic with people in your dealings and especially emphasize the importance of saying "no" as opposed to trying to please everybody. We also talk about where the urge to get revenge on someone who has wronged you comes from and ultimately if the amount of time and energy needed to bring someone down is worth it in the end. Lastly, we talk about how to move forwards in communications where each party sees the path or causes of the current conflict or issue from totally different perspectives.

Managing Photography for Casinos, Drone Photography, & Embracing or Fighting Reels with @funkdrone

Épisode 131

vendredi 28 octobre 2022Durée 01:15:22

Today we talk with Forrest Funk (@funkdrone) who many of you will know online from his stunning and unique aerial drone photography. We find out what's involved in his position as a manager of photography for Agua Caliente Casinos in California and how his recent photography journey led him to acquire this role. We hear Forrest's view on Instagram reels and how in the beginning he was totally against them, but has now come to somewhat embrace them in the pursuit of online growth. Forrest also tells us all about how he approaches aerial photography and what he's looking for while flying in the sky. Lastly, Forrest gives us some insight into how to look more comfortable on the other side of the camera. We sometimes find that we ourselves need to be modelling apparel we're shooting or we needing to use friends as inexperienced models for gigs. He offers some advice on how to get you or the model more comfortable having your picture taken.

Big shoutout to this week's #TPMartwork feature @brandonbaer_ with his moody fall shot of a waterfall in New England. It's so easy this time of year to capture and edit images that focus on color pop and over-emphasized saturation. We like how this image was able to bring the autumn vibes in a deep toned and subtle kind of way.  Be sure to check out more of his work and keep submitting to the hashtag for your chance to have your image featured and talked about on a future episode!
