Gut Feelings Are Real and Here's Why!01 Sep 202500:09:52

Send us a text

Have you ever experienced "butterflies in your stomach" before a big presentation? Have you felt your mood dip when your digestion was off?

I certainly have - for me, a common experience before a big university exam or presentation was the sensation of having to run to the bathroom repeatedly (sorry if that was TMI). But what do these shared experiences have in common?

They indicate a profound and intricate relationship between the gut and brain.

Yes, the connection between gut and brain is real and it’s often referred to as the gut-brain connection. As a nutritionist specializing in neuronutrition, I've seen firsthand how nurturing your gut can be a game-changer for mental well-being and how improving brain health has a direct impact on digestion.

In this podcast, we’ll explore this fascinating link, bust some common myths, and provide practical nutritional tips you can implement today that will support both your gut and your mind.

How To Deal With Neurofatigue16 Aug 202200:18:43

Send us a text

Hi everyone! This is Kelly - your Nutrition Coach and Brain Health Professional on a mission to teach you how to get a better brain!

Do you experience brain fog or neurofatigue? Do your symptoms ever make you feel isolated or frustrated because others simply don’t understand? Perhaps you don’t understand what is happening yourself.

In this podcast, we dive into the topic of neurofatigue, including what it is, what it feels like, the causes of neurofatigue, and most importantly, what you can do about it!

Neurofatigue is often called brain fog or mental fatigue. Most cases of neurofatigue result from a TBI - including concussions, blows to the head, or strokes. Other causes include chronic Lyme disease, chronic migraines, malnourishment, and even hormonal imbalances or PCOS.

But how do you know if neurofatigue is affecting you?

Well, neurofatigue is also called cognitive fatigue or brain fog because it includes pronounced mental fatigue after any form of mental activity. This "mental activity" can include almost anything, from writing to doing paperwork, shopping in a big box store, watching a movie, or simply engaging in conversation.

People often describe neurofatigue as the feeling of being completely exhausted or depleted. They have no brain power or energy to focus, remember information, learn anything new, or perform daily activities. Concentration and focus can become so difficult after bursts of mental activity that even simple daily tasks can be debilitating.

Be sure to watch the entire video to learn more.

HeartMath & Simple Self Care to Improve Your Mental Health30 Jun 202200:13:21

Send us a text

Hi everyone! This is Kelly, your Nutrition Coach and Brain Health Professional on a mission to teach you how to get a better brain!

Today’s podcast is all about self-care, why its important and how engaging in self-care can improve one’s mental health. As a bonus, I introduce you to HeartMath, one of the best forms of self-care in which you can engage!

What is HeartMath?

HeartMath is a scientifically-proven, evidence-based approach of tapping into the power of your heart to improve your mental conditioning. It allows you to take a moment, decompress, refocus, become revitalized, and switch into a parasympathetic nervous system state, and it’s much easier than you might think.

By using our heart’s natural rhythms and heart rate variability, we can bring all other bodily organs and systems into alignment - a state called coherence. When we are in this coherent state, we actually have the ability to change or restructure our nervous system and create positive mood states.

This allows us to:
 - Better manage stress
 - Improve our personal resilience
 - Restore balance
 - Reduce anxiety and depression
 - Promote positive mood states
 - Improve sleep, and
 - Help us feel better overall

Listen to this week’s podcast to learn more about how the power of HeartMath can help you. Of course, feel free to contact me at Kelly@HappiHuman.com to learn more.

Helping Your Loved One with Dementia: Do’s and Don’ts07 Jun 202200:09:35

Send us a text

Do you have a loved one with dementia?

Are you overwhelmed with all the information out there (much of it conflicting), leaving you even more confused and not knowing what to do?

If so, then listen on. This week’s episode provides some practical do’s and don’ts when it comes to helping your loved one.

Yes, there are several do’s  and don’ts  to helping a loved one with dementia. Here are a few key things to keep in mind:

Do be patient and understanding. Dementia can be challenging to deal with, both for the person who has it and their loved ones. Remember that you should never be overly critical or judgmental, as this will only strain your relationship.

Don’t expect your loved one to remember everything. One of the hallmarks of dementia is forgetfulness, so don’t feel offended if they can’t always recall essential details about their lives. Instead, remind them gently and move on.

How Omega 3 Fatty Acids Can Reduce Your Risk for Alzheimer’s 27 Apr 202200:16:09

Send us a text

Hi everyone! This is Kelly - your Nutrition Coach and Brain Health Professional on a mission to teach you how to get a better brain!

Has someone in your family been recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s? Have you been wondering how to reduce your risk? You’re not alone!

More than six million adults over 65 years old have Alzheimer’s dementia. As startling a statistic as this is, numbers are only expected to rise.

An Alzheimer’s diagnosis can seem daunting and frightening for many people. Your memory and ability to perform daily tasks slowly dwindle. You fear becoming a burden and forgetting who you are.

But it doesn’t have to end this way. There are steps you can start taking today that can reduce your risk for Alzheimer’s. As the saying goes - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

You may have guessed that your diet plays a critical role in all of this - and you’d be right. However, it can be challenging to know where to start when implementing the fruits, vegetables, meat, and supplements that are part of a brain-healthy diet into your everyday meals.

One such strategy is Omega-3s because they have many health benefits including:

  • Lowering triglyceride levels
  • Reducing symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis
  • Reducing oxidative stress
  • Lowering systemic inflammation
  • Improving asthma symptoms
  • Improving ADHD symptoms
  • Stabilizing blood sugar levels
  • Supporting brain and nervous system development

So, if you are interested in learning more about dietary changes that can reduce your risk for Alzheimer’s, be sure to watch my video or read this week’s post!

Why A TBI Brain Likes Routine 09 Mar 202200:19:50

Send us a text

Hi everyone! This is Kelly - your Nutrition Coach and Brain Health Professional on a mission to teach you how to get a better brain!

How to get a better brain is very appropriate, as this month is worldwide Brain Injury Awareness Month. The purpose of this month is to raise awareness, share knowledge, and educate about all things brain injury.

The information in this video is helpful for anyone who has a brain injury, knows a brain-injured person, works with one, puts themselves at risk for acquiring one, or is a caregiver to a brain injury survivor, like me. If you don’t know about my story, head over to HappiHuman.com to read all about my husband’s brain injury, how it changed both our lives in an instant, and how we managed to turn things around naturally.

But for this podcast, let’s consider why a TBI brain likes routine, how routines can support recovery, and ideas on what you can start doing today if you happen to have a TBI. So you’ll want to pay close attention - as what I share in this video is very valuable information that I wish was available to me and Joe when we needed it. Take it all in so you don’t have to struggle or feel alone like we did!

First, what exactly is a TBI? It stands for traumatic brain injury. A TBI occurs when the brain and skull collide, disrupting the brain’s normal functioning. It’s usually the result of blunt force trauma but can happen due to a variety of different reasons.

How much a TBI impacts you depends on several factors, including the severity of the injury, the biochemical changes that take place upon impact, the state of your nervous system upon injury, your nutritional status, and your body’s ability to cope, to name a few. All these factors play a role in recovery.

Speaking of recovery, let’s talk about that. One of the most important things you can do to support recovery after a TBI is to stick with a routine. It may not always be easy, but it can help speed the healing process and make life easier for you in general.

But why does a TBI brain like routine? In brief, routines can help establish a sense of stability, promote other healthy habits, and helps your brain function more efficiently. Be sure to watch the video for more information about why a TBI brain likes counties, how routines can support recovery, and some simple routines you can start today!

Diabetes | Brain Benefits of Having Balanced Blood Sugar Levels10 Feb 202200:13:02

Send us a text

Hi everyone! This is Kelly - your Nutrition Coach and Brain Health Professional on a mission to teach you how to get a better brain!

https://linktr.ee/kellyaiello

Today’s video is all about sugar!

Ok, so maybe not the kind of sugar you originally thought about - but sugars in your blood.

Why should you pay attention to your blood sugar levels? If you have diabetes, are worried about getting it in the future, are battling cancer, or want to stave off dementia, then blood sugar levels should be of great concern to you - and you probably already know this.

But what you may not realize is that you should also pay attention to your blood glucose levels if you are interested in optimizing your cognitive function!

How are blood sugar levels and your brain health connected? Well, let’s start with some of the most common complaints many of my clients have: poor sleep, zoning out, and irritability. These are all signs of neurofatigue.

If you have these same struggles or can’t seem to wake up, I’m sure you’ve done everything you can think of to battle your exhaustion but it doesn’t seem to go away.

If this sounds like you, I have one question for you… Have you checked your blood sugar levels lately?

There are many benefits of having and maintaining balanced blood sugar levels. The one that likely pops to mind, as previously mentioned, is to prevent diabetes. However, there are many other, less obvious benefits.

Better focus, improved mood, enhanced sleep, and increased energy are among the benefits of balanced blood sugar levels. So if you’d like to optimize your brain health and regain energy, start here! And if you’re willing, I can certainly help you with this!

Online Nutrition Coach: Supportive and Tailored for You26 Jan 202200:11:28

Send us a text

Hi everyone! This is Kelly - your Nutrition Coach and Brain Health Professional on a mission to teach you how to get a better brain! Thanks for joining me.

Welcome to my channel where I share valuable information and teach about brain health.

Today, I’d like to talk about what it’s like being an online nutrition coach and how I help people reach their goals. But first, let’s start by considering why you may want to hire a nutrition coach. Why should you see a nutritionist? For the same reasons that professional athletes, actors and executives hire a nutritionist… to stay physically fit, mentally sound, and spiritually secure.

How would you like to develop a healthier relationship with food? Improve your mental health? Regain the energy and vitality you once had? Lose weight and keep it off for good? Gain a competitive advantage at work or school?

As a nutrition coach, these are among the things I get to help people with - and I couldn’t be happier doing so!

Now what you may not know about being a nutrition coach is what happens behind the scenes. When someone wants to work with me, I send them a very detailed questionnaire through my secure online platform that asks them a variety of questions. Some of them include such things as what they currently eat and do, what their goals are, and what symptoms or challenges they may be struggling with. Armed with that information, I start my detective work. My aim is to discover why the person may be experiencing the symptoms they have or what may have been holding them back from reaching their goals in the past. This way, when we start our sessions together, we can work at correcting any underlying issues.

What may surprise you is that as a nutrition coach, I don’t just focus on food. Even though food is a large part of the plan I create for someone, it’s only one piece of the puzzle.

Because we are all biochemically unique with different needs, abilities, and values, I also consider a person’s lifestyle, stress, sleep, family dynamics, work schedule, exercise regime, mindset, and history. I ask probing questions that help me determine which area (or areas) of their brain may be overactive or not getting enough blood flow. Taking all these things into consideration, I create a highly individualized plan for each person I work with. And what sets me apart is my experience in neuronutrition and brain health.

How we process information, our mindset around eating habits and our relationship with food all play a huge role in our overall health. So when I work with someone, as a nutrition coach, I work to help them improve their whole lives - not just help them clean up their diet.

If this sounds good to you, if you’d like to know what foods and lifestyle changes can benefit you, if you’d like to explore your relationship with food, if you’d like to make better eating decisions and boost your mental health, if you’re ready to change your mindset about food and eating, and if you’re ready to work hard to reach your goals, then I’m ready to hear from you!

Email me at Kelly@happihuman.com

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you reach all your goals!

Until next time, stay happi and healthi!
