This episode is near and dear to my soul, as I share with you my remembering of some very hard and painful truths and experiences during my primitive school years.

What prompted this self inquiry around this solo episode was some books my husband and I recently purchased by John Taylor Gatto -links to his books below. John a former New York School teacher for 30 years, books activated a lot of emotional responses and deep painful remembering for me. Both his books made sense too much of the madness and frustration I have felt over the years around my schooling and experiences. Ultimately leading to the beautiful choose to unschool / homeschool/ be together as a family full time I guess you could say for our children!

First time mama Jess shares her powerful story of leaving her career in Nursing, birthing her first son out of the system in Mexico , and her journey into Traditional Birth Companionship! Jess's Story:

My journey has been a long and adventurous one. I graduated the nursing program in 2020. I began noticing just how corrupt everything really was. I joined Canadian Frontline Nurses not long after I began working at the hospital. I found hope and my world opened to natural alternatives to health. We organized rallies, protests, created pamphlets of information to distribute to the public. I met so many beautiful souls. Meanwhile, I went from a "great nurse" to "bad nurse" the second my colleague's found out I wasn't vaccinated. I was threatened to have my nursing license taken away and face a suspension without pay if I didn't get vaccinated. I decided to go on sick leave. CFLN had zoom meetings every Monday nights and Billie Harrigan was the guest speaker. This woman gave me goosebumps. I wanted her to talk forever. She made me want to drop nursing and dive deep into the real world of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. She opened my eyes to the lies and birthing business hospitals have created. I began her courses while on sick leave. Not too long after, I hopped on the biggest roller-coaster of my life, I quit my nursing career, sold our house and everything we owned, found out I was pregnant, got married, moved to Mexico less than 6 months later and had our baby there. We had a homebirth with an amazing supportive birth team!

Now, I'm a happy stay-at-home mom and wife. I am starting up my courses again to become a traditional birth companion. I wrote an ebook on my entire experience "Nurse to TBC: leaving the medical industry". I really want to empower women to take control of their pregnancy and birth. WOW WOW! You honestly don't want to miss this incredible birth journey that Dezaray shares with us. A former nurse and mother of 4 boys who she had all surgical births with, pregnant with her 5th daughter Dezaray reclaimed this birth and caught her daughter at home in the birth pool with Companion Nikita support after having 4 prior surgical births!!

Dezaray's Bio:

In 2020, I graduated with honours from the nursing program as a mother of 4 boys. I finished my consolidation placement right as they shut everything down in March of 2020. In June I became registered with the CNO and by November, I got hired on as a float pool Nurse at the hospitals near me. Things were insane and overwhelming for a new nurse with lack of staff (all those ridiculous quarantines and asymptomatic "positives" 🤦‍♀️) and of course not having patients families allowed. I kept getting my own patient loads on floors I was supposed to be doing orientation on and all the masking and things. It was a lot. So I was struggling with my mental health and ended up taking a couple leaves of absences. On my second one in April of 2021, I went to my first rally with my mom who told me about these nurses that were speaking out. That's where I met Kristen Nagle and I was soooooo thankful to have met her and finally not feel alone in questioning everything going on. It was such a blessing. Next thing I know I was asked to speak at a couple of local rallies by some new friends and speak on what I was seeing as the hospitals and adverse reactions and so on. So I did. Suddenly I'm getting calls from work about a disciplinary hearing before I'm allowed to return. Long story short, I ended up quitting over being fired which was the end game for them as I had been reported for speaking against the mandates and adverse reactions and for things I posted on social media. As of July 2021 I resigned from the hospital. I've worked some odd random jobs over the last couple years, cleaning houses and working at a sprinkle factory. Trying some network marketing companies, one of which I'm still with and love. Just been trying to find my passion which I have finally found. I'm currently in school for natural nutrition with the Canadian School of natural nutrition and I'd like to take some herbalist courses as well as some other certifications eventually in alternative (natural) healing methods and start my own holistic wellness business. I had my daughter in October of 2023 and I homeschool my other 4 kids as well so life is busy and chaotic and wonderful lol I never ever thought I'd homeschool. It just wasn't even a thought in my mind. Kids just went to school. I didn't know it was even really an option not to send them and to teach them at home honestly. I now can't unsee what I've learned about the world though and I want to protect my children from the nonsense going on in the public school systems and empower them with the necessary knowledge to face the future that they're growing up into and knowing how perfectly made they are and how to take care of their bodies naturally. All this is what led me to remain out of the system to have my natural, perfect, physiological homebirth with my baby girl after having 4 previous c-sections and thinking the doctors must know better then me.

She worked in daycares and then landed a job with the TDSB (Toronto district school board) and realized that the system was not where she felt aligned and decided to open up a nature school Nature Nook for her daughter, Maeve, and other free spirited children to be able to freely learn and grow and become critical thinkers in a world that has lost that skill.

She reclaimed her sons birth working with a Companion and doing her own inner work after what she describes was an abusive induction birth of her daughter 2 years prior.

Samantha Is a mama of 2, her daughter Ellie, 3 and Francesco 9.5 months. She is an RN and her career was based in psychiatric nursing. Samantha loved working with and providing comfort and empathy to those struggling inside themselves. Covid came around she was fear mongered, pregnant for the first time and scared to work in emergency where she found herself at that time. Fast forward a few months, recognizing what was going on and now not being allowed to work. She had to shift gears. Samantha now works at home doing cosmetic injections. She feels like this was a blessing in disguise because she truly didn't know how she was going return to work and take care of her babies. Truly, her priorities lay with her family and children. Samantha is not always sure if that's a good thing because her needs are definitely on the back burner but this is where she is called to be in this moment!

Early Interest in Breastfeeding Medicine

Anubha has devoted the last 2 decades to meticulous medical training and the delivery of holistic care to my patients. Early in my career I was keenly focused on the study of diabetes.  While working towards my Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynecology from Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai, India, my interest in lactation medicine was ignited.  On a daily basis I supported new breastfeeding parents in the labour and delivery ward where I witnessed the far-reaching impact of timely support and proper guidance on the breastfeeding parent and their entire family’s overall well being.   

Building a Life in Canada

I came to Canada with my new passion for lactation and, after writing my medical licensing exams, became a Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada.   I have profoundly enjoyed assisting our multiethnic community while working at our local OBGYN and Family Medicine Clinics. My interest in pediatrics continued to grow as my work at a Paediatric Clinic began. There I enthusiastically invested in pediatric research and academic presentations as Clinical Educator. 

Becoming a Mother

I experienced significant breastfeeding challenges with my first born. When we were expecting our second child my husband encouraged me to seek professional lactation support and I turned to our very own talented IBCLC's (LCs) for virtual prenatal classes.  Once baby arrived I was able to meet regularly with my LC until we made it through the early difficulties.  What a difference ongoing lactation support has made!  With support, we exclusively breastfed for six months before introducing baby to family meals, we are happily breastfeeding and still going strong.  I feel more confident that I will reach my breastfeeding goals knowing my LC is just a virtual appointment away should I have questions or concerns.

Deepening the Commitment to Breastfeeding Medicine

I have come to realize that the advancement of maternal health care is my true calling.  I have always drawn inspiration from working with mothers and  parents.  I am honoured to continue improving lactation support through my role as Research Director at the Ontario Breastfeeding Clinic, and am currently preparing to write my IBCLC exam.

Today I spoke with well respected Chiropractor Dr. Tara Hosie, her wisdom and full spectrum approach to care for families and infants is so wonderful. She is so passionate and knowledgable helping support many families who face a host of challenges like torticollis, gas, colic, reflux, oral restrictions. Dr. Tara brings so much love and passion to her practice and the families she serves. Bio:Dr. Tara is a perinatal and pediatric chiropractor and co-owner of Encompass Health & Wellness, a family wellness clinic in midtown Kitchener. Dr. Tara has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Dalhousie University and a Doctorate of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.

Dr. Tara began her work with infants around 6 years ago when her postpartum patients started bringing in their little ones for issues such as torticollis, gas, colic, reflux etc. A few years into treating these concerns through adjustments and soft tissue therapy she started to notice an increasing trend of infants being diagnosed with tongue and lip ties. Having no prior background in oral ties, she started a deep dive into their impact on her littlest patients and how to make positive change through chiropractic care. 

Fast forward to today and Dr. Tara’s practice is about 50% pediatric care with a strong focus on managing infants with oral ties and the sequelae of issues that present as a result. Using adjustments, cranial work, soft tissue therapy, parent education and cross referrals with other professionals such as osteopaths, dentists, lactation consultants etc. Dr. Tara has been able to help many families navigate the challenge that is oral ties.

Prior to real estate, Azra obtained degrees from the University of Waterloo and Conestoga College, where she studied communications and human resource management. She then completed the Canadian Securities Course and worked as a financial advisor at one of Canada's top banks.

Azra's skill for forging genuine connections has translated beautifully to multi-platform content creation, a role she has held in the social media arena since 2015. In 2017, she created Matrescend - a coaching program created for female entrepreneurs seeking to manifest financial freedom and went on to be nominated for the Mompreneur Awards, one of Canada's most distinguished recognitions for business owners. Azra is also a gifted writer and the author of a book of poetry published in 2020, Your Mother is a Storm.

More notably, Azra is a tenured finance professional, certified adult educator and mindset coach for female entrepreneurs. Her success has largely come from encouraging both emotional and financial intelligence in her clients.

Radical Moms Union: I’m part of a growing, online movement of radical mothers who are fighting to hold corporations accountable for their predatory marketing aimed at vulnerable moms. That includes infant formula companies, the sleep training industry, and any other consumer goods that try to separate mother and baby. We’re called the Radical Moms Union.
