30. Embracing your Inner Ninja with Megan Roche13 Jul 202201:15:42

This week, I had the pleasure of talking to one of my favorite running coaches who I’ve looked up to for years, Megan Roche.

You may know her from SWAP running or the SWAP podcast that she hosts with her husband, David Roche. Or maybe you know her from their book, The Happy Runner. And if you don’t know Megan, she is also an amazing runner herself, coach, MD, PHD candidate in epidemiology and one of the most positive, supportive people I’ve ever met.

Here are some of the topics you can expect in this episode:

Embracing your inner ninja
Injecting fun and play into your running
Building the aerobic base alongside reinforcing speed
Data free days
Learning to run by feel
Training for the long term & dreaming big
The importance of having a why
Balancing scientific studies and anecdotes
Open-mindedness and flexibility in coaching
Coach-athlete relationships & being fully yourself
Dealing with negativity
Coaching a diverse range of athletes
Her pregnancy journey

This conversation was the highlight of my week, and I hope y'all enjoy this as much as we did.

26. Are You Making These Training Mistakes? - Pt 225 May 202200:22:16

Last week I talked about the first 6 training mistakes that I see from my list of 12 common mistakes, and today is the final 6!

Want to win one of my running programs, merch or a coaching call? Leave a review for this podcast by June 10 for your chance to win! I'll be announcing the winner on the podcast (likely June 15), so be sure to listen and see if you won.

Do you have a story you want to share about your running or life with running? If so, I want to have you on the podcast! I love my educational interviews, but I also want to share stories from our community (and not only from elite runners). If you’d be interested in coming on the podcast, email me, tell me why you want to come on and a little about your story, and we’ll go from there!

25. Are You Making These Training Mistakes? - Pt 118 May 202200:26:06

I asked what you all wanted to hear about and overwhelmingly the response was the top training mistakes that I see as a coach and from being an athlete myself for years.

I narrowed it down to 12 common mistakes that I see (though I could probably extend this list tbh) and talk about the first 6 in this week’s episode. I procrastinated recording this and ran out of time, so you’ll have to wait until next week to hear the second 6. :)

Do you have a story you want to share about your running or life with running? If so, I want to have you on the podcast! I love my educational interviews, but I also want to share stories from our community (and not only from elite runners). 22. Nutrition for Running with Caitlin Holmes - Pt 127 Apr 202200:53:12

This week, I have my first guest, Caitlin Holmes, on the show! Caitlin is a certified nutrition specialist who works with athletes. I worked with her in 2021 on my nutrition while I was training for my 50k and can’t recommend her enough to anyone looking for help with their nutrition.

We actually recorded for so long in our interview that I had to split it up into two podcast episodes. This week in part 1 we go over the basics of nutrition and how it relates to running, focusing on protein, carbs, fats, and total calories.

20. How to Know If You're Ready To Train for an Ultra28 Oct 202100:16:43

I wasn't planning on recording this episode, but I was FIRED UP from a post I saw on Instagram, insinuating that you had to be able to run a certain distance in order to train for another distance. Specifically, this post said you should "definitely run a marathon first" before running an ultra.

Let's talk about the issues with this advice and how to actually know if you're ready to train for a 50k.

Wendy was wondering if it's okay for newer runners to run on trails from the start, if trails are considered more advanced, when I would recommend running on trail vs road, how to know if a trail is technical, and the difference between surfaces for running.

Today I talk about some of my favorite ways to measure progress that DON'T involve pace, which is especially helpful for my trail runners and my perfectionists.

116. Uplifting Sub Ultra Distance Races with Mason Coppi10 Apr 202401:08:32

In this podcast episode, I dive deep into a conversation with Mason, a passionate runner with a profound journey from disliking hiking as a child to becoming a notable runner, including competing in college and eventually embracing trail running after college.

Growing up in Southern California with access to beautiful trails, Mason initially detested hiking but discovered a love for running after outpacing his brother and engaging in sports like football and street hockey. Despite struggling in team sports due to his size, Mason found his stride in running, fueled by sibling rivalry and a desire to qualify for a school 'Olympics.'

His journey took him to Furman University in South Carolina, where he continued running competitively but started feeling burnt out towards the end. The introduction to trail running rekindled his passion for the sport, leading to a shift towards running on trails post-graduation.

Mason also discusses the dynamics of transitioning from Division 1 running to trail running, his interest in sub-ultra running for its speed and intensity, and his experiences and perspectives on running road marathons, including hitting 'the wall.'

Moreover, the conversation touches on challenges like body image issues among male runners and the significance of embracing failures as learning opportunities. Mason shares upcoming runs and encourages engagement in sub-ultra and mountain races.
