The men behind the YMC changes that changed the course of F1 history.

This is a fascinating episode, discover the world of Formula One track design from two of the worlds best and their historic impact on one of the most iconic title deciders we've ever seen!

Today we’re joined by the Managing Director of Driven International, Ben Willshire, and Mark Hughes, the MD of Mrk1 Consulting, both men have impacted the Formula 1 World Championship massively by being responsible for the modification of the Yas Marina Circuit layout with alterations to the north hairpin, the south marina at the beginning of Turn 11 and the hotel section at the beginning of Turn 17.

They were tasked with improving the show and I think we can all confirm they succeeded, we’re here to learn all about track design and delve into the detail on that World Championship defining race and the impact they had on it.

Its another double whammy! A Jaguar duo!

This week our first guest is Sam Bird, he’s a race winner in every season of the Formula E World Championship to date and has been in the Series since it’s very first race. He first appeared in karting before Formula BMW, he’s been a reserve driver for Mercedes F1, before signing up to race in the first ever Formula E season in 2014 with Virgin Racing and we find him now of course, with Jaguar Racing.

His teammate is Mitch Evans, and we’re lucky enough to have him here as well. Mitch also started in karts and under the mentorship of Mark Webber, he went onto win the 2012 GP3 title. His electric career started in 2016 when he signed for Jaguar where he remains to this very day after a strong showing in Season 7 when he finished 4th in the Championship just a few points off the winning drive of Nyck De Vries.

Today, with Harry on hols in Norfolk with zero wifi, Tim is flying solo but the show must go on and he's joined by David Brabham, a man from one of the most important racing dynasties in motorsport, he’s had over 30 years in the sport from karts, to single seaters, Formula 1 and sportscars. He has a ridiculous racing CV – he’s a triple Le Mans 24 hr class winner, back to back American Le Mans Series Champion, he’s enjoyed two Championship titles in ALMS. He’s been a WEC LMP1 privateer picking up podiums, and we’ve not even touched on the triumphs in Japanese GT500s, USA Professional Sportscar Championship, Spa 24, Daytona 24, Sebring 12 hrs and Bathurst 1000. In recent history he’s brought the famous Brabham name back with Brabham Automotive, with the astonishing BT62 machine. Thanks to David for joining us! Amazing chat!

He was a leading figure at Cosworth F1 until 2012 and has been involved with the likes of Senna, Schumacher, Button and Hakkinen. Chuck into the mix Status Grand Prix which he founded, going on to become a race winning team in junior categories, Le Mans and more, he’s also been the Team Principal for Team Ireland in the brilliant A1 GP, which he won! We hear from Juan Manuel Correa, a man who came back from the brink after a life changing crash at Spa. A real honour to hear from such an inspirational and impressive man!

Born in Ecuador in 1999, before testing his ability in the US where he settled in Miami. He competed and won 2013 Rotax National Championship and become Rotax Junior World Champion in karts. He was scouted and recruited by the Lotus F1 Team on their Junior Programme and moved to Europe to pursue his dream, aged just 14. He went on to take part in F3 and F2 before a cruel accident changed the course of his life and career, however, he’s back doing what he does best and making his mark, once again, on the motorsport world.

The next Kiwi to get to Formula One?

Today we’re joined by Liam Lawson, Liam started in karts in his native New Zealand at Mt Wellington kart track in Auckland before winning on debut in Formula First and Formula Ford, where he won 15 of 15 championship races, at 15 he headed to Australia where he continued the trend by winning on his debut. At 16 he moved to Europe, where he went through ADAC F4, Formula 3 and most recently in Formula 2 with Red Bull backing, his highlight though, coming when he recently raced of course at the inaugural MotorMouth Charity Karting Cup at Whilton Mill.

Today we’re joined by British racing star Jordan King. Jordan took the well trodden route of karting back way in 2005 before a move to Single Seaters beckoned in 2010 where he won the British F3 title with Carlin. He went on to European F3 and the then GP2 Championship. The Manor Marussia F1 Team quickly snapped him up as a development driver before stints in F2 and IndyCar over in the US of A. He then went onto LMP cars and taking on the famous Le Mans 24 and even the Indy500, he’s also done a spot of commentary, we’ll let him fill you in on the rest!

She began her career as a written journo aged just 15 before joining Border TV. She made her TV news debut at 22 years old, becoming the youngest person in the UK to do so and went on to present on BBC Scotland, Wimbledon tennis, Olympic and Paralympic coverage and of course, as we know her best, on Channel 4’s coverage of Formula 1. He, like many before him, worked his way up through the karting ladder, later shining in German Formula 3 before a short stint with Eddie Jordan in Formula 1 before a gap and then back to F1 with Toyota, Virgin and Marussia before eventually making the switch to DTM where he’s remained loyal ever since.
