have you ever lost someone?

an old friend?

a lover?

a beloved pet?

have you ever lost something?

a job?

a house?

a dream?

an aspect of you?

grief is more than death

grief is loss

grief is wandering

grief is aimless

and the road can be long

and winding

without an end in sight

but the end will come

and when it comes

we see the light

and we understand

that the end was a new beginning

today we talk about my 26 year old brother mitch's sudden passing, and how my parent's tried to raise him from the dead.

plot twist: if anybody believed that my brother would be raised from the dead, it would have been me.

my youngest brother mitch died suddenly a little over a month ago (april, 2023), i wanted to share with you the poem that i wrote for his eulogy (elegy) and some of my favorite pictures from his life. "ever after" (poem)

“live a life with no regrets

the future isn’t shown

the now is all we have”

In today’s episode, we talk about the F-word, the first slur I ever knew as a child… “FAT”.

Whether I was binging on every carb in my cabinet at 260 lbs., or weighing 130 lbs. less, running 6 miles a day in the best shape of my life as a raw foodist… it didn’t matter. I still felt like sh*t. Losing weight didn’t change things like I thought it would. In fact, it only magnified the real issue: my self-worth.

I have struggled with Binge Eating Disorder (BED) on one side of the spectrum, and anorexia on the other. For me, there was no in-between. My food habits were simply a mirror for how I viewed myself: in extremes. No one is all good or all bad, nothing is.

“Fat” is a human construct, it’s all made up. Our outer habits are just a reflection of our inner beliefs. In facing ourselves, we face the issue. And when we face the issue, we find that it’s a non-issue.

In today’s episode, I tell my story. After many years of grappling with my sexuality (and cycling through every damn letter in the rainbow 🌈 alphabet😂), I am ready to just be Missy Gordon.

The Modern Christian Church has mentally tortured many of us in the LGBTQIA+ community, so today I offer a practice that had deeply helped me to combat this: Eckhart Tolle’s concept of “Presence” and learning to simply exist in The Now.

After my Spiritual Awakening in 2021, and layers of deep shadow work, I connected with The Divine Feminine within me. This new self-awareness caused me to once again question my sexuality, resulting in yet ANOTHER identity crisis. After 20 years of Christians telling me I was going to burn in hell for my sexuality, and developing PTSD because of it, I’m finally ready to exit the religious arguments 🏳 and just focus on being Missy Gordon. If pressed for a label (nobody puts baby in a corner😂), I would say, “I identify as the ‘plus’ in LGBTQIA+”.

Here’s to finding peace within ourselves. 🌈 May we always give each other the grace and room to evolve freely without judgment as we integrate and embrace even deeper aspects of ourselves.

The Modern Christian Church brainwashed many of us from a young age with Purity Culture. The Christian leaders who pushed books like "I Kissed Dating Goodbye"* on young teens wouldn't call it brainwashing, in fact, they wouldn't use the term, "Purity Culture" at all, they would call it "being godly", but Purity Culture Survivors would argue this.

As someone from the LGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈 Community, as well as a victim of Purity Culture myself, I can say with 100% certainty that these teachings are EVIL.

How has #purityculture affected you?

*Joshua Harris, author of "I Kissed Dating Goodbye", has abandoned his Purity Culture teachings in recent years, and has since apologized for the damage caused, making it a priority to openly speak about how harmful Purity Culture is, attempting to vindicate the victims.

This kind of Censorship in the Modern Christian Church is a given, especially if you grew up going to Youth Group.😂

Like me, you may have been taught that those types of “worldly”, “secular” things could “plant bad seeds” in your heart! HELLLOOO, didn’t you learn anything from “I Kissed Dating Goodbye”? Oh wait, never mind, that guy deconstructed too.

Many of us were taught that when you dabble in “sinful” activities, you’re in the devil’s playground👹(lowercase “d” on the word “devil”, just to be safe!): DANGER! 💀☠️

But this is not the only type of Christian Censorship we address in today’s episode, we also discuss another type of censorship: Censorship of the Self. The Censorship of Emotions. Suppression of the Heart.

“Turn that frown upside down!”

“JESUS LOVES YOU! There’s no need to be depressed!”

“You must have opened up a door to the devil somewhere.”

“Are you praying enough?”

“Well, maybe if you came to church last week…..”

“There’s no reason to be sad, Jesus saves!” Etc.

Sound familiar?

What happens when Christian platitudes just aren’t cutting it?

In today’s episode, we discuss how harmful this kind of emotional suppression, avoidance, and censorship can truly be on the psyche.

In this episode, we explore the concept of questioning our Christian beliefs. Many of us have been taught (directly or indirectly) in the Christian Church that it is not okay to question. “Questioning may breed doubt and unbelief!” *gasp*

Questioning within the four walls of the Modern Christian Church may just be the slippery slope to lukewarm Christianity at least, and at worst, the gateway drug to full-blown atheism.

It’s okay to ask questions. It’s healthy to wonder. Questioning can inspire a thought that may eventually lead to a profound personal belief that cannot be shaken. When we question for ourselves instead of just parroting the typical Christian rhetoric, we deepen our relationship with God (The Divine, Source, Spirit).

Jesus often responded to a question with another question because He is a good teacher. Good teachers encourage questioning, in fact, they may even egg us on. This kind of teacher helps guide their students to think for themselves, so the student’s belief becomes their own. This is the mark of a true spiritual student as well. Dare to question!
