| Caroline Burrows on delivering EMDR workshops | 31 May 2025 | 00:25:10 | |
A lot of us reach a point in our careers when the need for change becomes undeniable. Caroline Burrows is someone who has gracefully navigated such a transition. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with her, as she shared how she transformed her passion for trauma therapy into a thriving practice, while also imparting her expertise through EMDR workshops. Caroline's journey is super relatable. Imagine having a long-standing career only to realise that maybe, just maybe, you want to steer it in a new direction. Specialising in mental health and social work for over 20 years, Caroline found EMDR therapy incredibly effective for her clients dealing with trauma. But she also noticed something else: delivering therapy services was taking a pretty huge toll on her. Opting for a change, she shifted gears, moving from one-on-one client sessions to empowering other therapists through training. Caroline opens up about wrestling with the idea that stepping away from direct therapy work might undermine her credibility. Feeling like a “sellout” lingered until she realised the massive positive impact she could make by training others. Now, she’s proud of how her work influences the broader field, as every therapist she trains goes on to do amazing things with their clients. We chat about Caroline’s candid approach to her neurodivergence (ADHD) and how she chooses to share this aspect of herself openly, making her training sessions all the more inclusive and genuine. She shares her perspective on the power of mentorship and community, where the guidance of business mentors has been crucial to her own growth and expansion. Each conversation I have in this space leaves me with something profound, and chatting with Caroline was no exception. Her journey of transformation, authenticity and resilience inspires and empowers those who dare to think differently and pursue their own paths in mental health—and beyond. | Welcome to The Mess Behind The Success | 10 Apr 2025 | 00:03:44
Everywhere we look, success seems to be so polished and effortless. We see the six figure launches, the book signings and media gigs, but rarely is anyone talking about the failures; the disappointing launches, the lost revenue, the rejections, the crying on the kitchen floor. As a clinical psychologist, author, course creator and business mentor, it might look like I’ve got it all together. But trust me, I’ve had my share of falling down. When I started creating courses six years ago, I really thought I was failing. It felt like there were all these women who knew something that I didn't, that there was a secret playbook everyone else had access to but me. But I know now that the success we see on perfectly curated social media posts is not the whole story - not even close! That’s why I’ve created this podcast. It’s a space to have real, unpolished, sometimes uncomfortable discussions with therapists and health professionals who have walked this path. We're talking about the juicy stuff that usually stays hidden, because honestly, we learn more from screw-ups than we ever do from the glossy tales of success. If you're a mission-driven woman who knows deep in your bones that you're meant for more than one-on-one work – whether that's courses, books, retreats or speaking gigs – but find yourself stuck in perfectionism's grip, this is your space. Join me as I pull back the curtain on what it really takes to build something bigger than yourself, and let’s celebrate the beautifully messy journey of life and business together! | Dr Tess Crawley on book writing & rejection | 31 Mar 2025 | 00:52:45
Have you ever felt that strong urge to write a book, only to be daunted by the idea of even drafting that very first chapter? I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Dr Tess Crawley, a mentor and friend who knows a thing or two about battling those writing demons. Tess is simply incredible. Our paths crossed years ago, and she’s been teaching me business acumen ever since. But there’s more to Tess than business smarts. She’s also dived deep into the world of writing, mixing her rich background in psychology with her passion for the written word. From her acting days to becoming a psychologist, Tess’s journey speaks to the beauty of following your instincts, and shares how her career leap into psychology opened new doors, leading her to explore topics around mental health and later business coaching through writing. Yet, like any seasoned writer, Tess knows rejection well. One failed book project during the lockdown served a tough reminder: failure is part of the deal. It's not about kicking you down but about pushing you toward improvement. Tess gives us her priceless insights on:
Writing is not about the final destination, but the countless avenues it creates. Whether you dream of your name on a book cover or simply enjoy the process of storytelling, know that you’re far from alone. It’s a tumultuous road but a truly rewarding one. For more insights from Tess and to stay updated on her projects, make sure to follow her on her socials. Keep an eye out for her future writing coaching programmes too! | Why I'm Here | 11 Feb 2025 | 00:24:52
Welcome to the very first episode of the The Mess Behind the Success Podcast I created this podcast for you. The Therapist who dreams of bigger impact... Your 1:1 clients get exceptional results, yet you’re not having the impact you know you could have outside the consulting room. You have brilliant ideas, but you fear being more visible. You wonder if you know enough. (Imposter syndrome, again). You want to speak up about issues that matter but hold yourself back. Maybe you freeze when it comes to taking bold action. This is a space for you to share a really warm, juicy and honest chat about business. I believe that we learn far more from failure and so I want to have deep, vulnerable conversations about what it really takes to find success. I'm less interested in social media hacks and your 6 figure launch, tell me about a time you failed. Talk to me about how you used posttraumatic growth to move it through your nervous system, and what patterns and stuck negative beliefs you've had to keep working through. My background as a psychologist and business coach means I hold space for meaningful transformation. My goal with this podcast is to help you move from self-doubt to courageous thought leader.
I'm also going to be asking the tough questions - of myself and of my guests, which in turn is going to help to highlight any gaps, challenges or blind spots you maybe haven't fully been aware of yet. You can learn more about working with me: https://doctorerin.com.au/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/doctorerinbowe/?hl=en Thanks for listening. Please subscribe and share!
