Kate Reinders

Épisode 15

jeudi 8 février 2024Durée 41:30

KATE REINDERS - From understudy on tour to OG Chicago GLINDA, to High School Musical The Musical The Series’ Favorite Drama teacher, Miss Jen…. Kate Reinders career has stood the test of time.

Did she really take a leave of absence from a Broadway revival in order to do a kids’ show?

Did she really miss a performance of said kids’ show in Minneapolis to fly to London to audition for a different Broadway show?  What’s it like doing a sitcom in front of a live studio audience?  And what’s the correlation between comedy and music?

Hear about Kate’s youthful confidence, and not taking no for an answer… following her gut… standing up for herself…and what philosophies continue to guide her..

Kate reminds us “It’s all how you think about it…. it’s not life or death…. We don’t really have anything to lose.” She talks about trying to reconnect and remember why you put up with all the stuff that’s not so great in the business.

And her matter-of-fact concept that, “You could get a job that could change everything… or you could not get it and that would change nothing….” so go for it!

Join me as I laugh along with Kate and we “consider the evidence” of navigating a long and winding trajectory in an industry full of twists and turns and disappointments and challenges… and TONS OF WONDERFUL!!!

Gavin Creel (part 1)

Épisode 5

jeudi 28 septembre 2023Durée 31:53

Technically my first guest ever (recorded in summer of 2021) is Tony-winning star of stage and screen, writer, composer, activist, and self-admitted “hot mess,” GAVIN CREEL!

Come along as Gavin and I talk about his arrival in NYC, his harrowing Broadway debut, and all the twists and turns and pitfalls along the way that have led to his brand new one-man show WALK ON THROUGH!

What is the tin rabbit? And how does that resonate in Gavin’s life?  What experience(s) sent him into a #ShameSpiral, and which “quirky” Broadway vet helped him snap out of it with some sage advice: “It’s all bull$h!+” ?

Gavin’s unique perspective will help you all realize that “ultimately the encouragement you need more than anything…is from within.”

Raymond J Lee

Épisode 4

jeudi 21 septembre 2023Durée 42:43

RAYMOND J LEE is currently performing in Sweeeny Todd on Broadway! Ray’s career seems to be non-stop on the stage and on TV, commercials and voice overs, yet he somehow balances career with being a husband and father!

Ray reveals his unique journey as a Korean-American pop-voiced theatre actor who refused to be boxed you in. His philosophy? ”Do your thing, and then let them decide where to put you.”  But getting to that mindset was a journey… Was he really supposed to be a doctor? And what exactly is a #TokenCall? Does he actually treat his nerves to a milkshake after an audition?

Ray’s refreshing take on having fun and keeping the joy in such a daunting career will help us all. Because, “the more you live… and do the fun things… the more resilience you build up to this career.”  And maybe with Ray’s help,  we can “learn to LET THINGS GO - as Elsa said.”

**It should be stated that since recording with Ray, several things have progressed…. The Brittney Musical arrived on Broadway and sadly already closed… we’ve had advances in casting with Seymour and Elphaba… who knows… maybe Ray is the secret… he speaks things into reality during this podcast.  So listen up… what else might he prophesy?

Kelli O’Hara (part 2)

Épisode 3

jeudi 14 septembre 2023Durée 25:24

Kelli O'Hara (part 2) - Tony Award winner, Emmy and Grammy-nominated actress Kelli O'Hara has established herself as one of Broadway's greatest leading ladies. It’s her perspective on life, art, craft, and the importance of curiosity and discomfort that keeps her going in the biz.

Find out how her determination and initial lack of awareness helped her succeed!

Did she really have the audacity to crash an audition?  Who was that mysterious man who played the piano for her? How does a sassy joke in the audition room lead to a starring role? And what seed planted 21 years ago bore fruit just this past year... and this coming Broadway season?

My two-part episode with Kelli will leave you asking yourself, “What am I, rather than what am I not?” and inspire you to, “Wake up, get up, and show up!”

André Ward (part 1)

Épisode 13

jeudi 9 novembre 2023Durée 35:25

André Ward (part 1) - This week, join me and my old friend, André Ward. As one of his teachers once said, “André’s a delight… but he talks a lot in class.” And believe me, his stories are not only wonderful and full of wisdom and joy, but filled with a LOT of laughs!

How did this powerhouse performer, and grounded balanced soul get to where he is today?  How does a whole childhood of pretending he was on Oprah and Donahue, and scripting his own soap operas and making his friends perform them on the playground, translate to a huge Broadway, TV, and film career, and lead to playing Toulouse-Lautrec in the mega-hit Broadway show Moulin Rouge! ?

Learn about his “sometimes crippling insecurity.” And did he really make an entrance swinging in over the audience on a rope? And learn the sage advice, imparted by a beloved broadway “Mama,” that André carries with him to this day!

I hope you enjoy this conversation and laugh along with us. And come back for part 2! - ProfEggers

Épisode 12

jeudi 26 octobre 2023Durée 36:16

Alli Mauzey - Join me and my astounding guest, Alli Mauzey, as she talks about her time at Wicked, Cry-Baby, and her current role of “Pattie Levaco,” the mom, in the Tony Award winning Best Musical: Kimberly Akimbo.

Learn about Alli’s “roundabout way” of getting into the business, after feeling like her schooling maybe didn’t actually set her up the way that she THOUGHT it would, and how she got told NO, but tried again.

Alli’s gratitude-filled perspective will help you appreciate the process and the extreme effort it takes to get a new musical off the ground, and the contrast of being in some of the best-known mega-hits.
